"The last of the classic Spyro games."
Being the third game in the series Spyro: Year Of The Dragon did an excellent job. At the beginning Rhynocs and a girl named Bianca crawl out of the ground and steal all of the Dragon Eggs from the Dragon Worlds. Now Spyro and Hunter must go to the other side of the world to rescue them.
The graphics are exactly the same as Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! so everything should feel familiar. Also, the music is still excellent as always. When it comes to the gameplay I think that the game did add enough from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! make it feel fun. The game has added in first of all four new playable characters.
Now you can play as Shiela the Kangaroo who can jump really high, Sgt. Byrd who is a flying penguin with rockets, Bentley the Yeti who can whack Rhynocs with his club, and Agent 9 who is a monkey with a gun. That is what adds variety to the game. With Shiela is is fun to jump high and kick Rhynocs but that is about it. With Sgt. Byrd you get to fly and shoot rockets but he isn't that great. Bentley is really awesome except he is slow but is still very strong. Last is Agent 9 who carries a gun and shoots enemies with attitude and he even gets his own first-person level! Now they also added in Sparx levels which I think is good because it has an overhead view to give you a break from the regular play. Also, you can now play as Hunter on some parts of the speedway levels which I thought was one of the best parts of the game. All of the mini-games really make this game fun. There are first-person shooter levels, side scrolling, and even combat with an overhead view. Yet again you will constantly run into the annoying Moneybags but this time at the end you get to beat the crap out of him and get all of your gems back! At the end of the game you will get in a battle with the Sorceress (villain of the game) and defeat her. Afterwards, Bianca will turn good and marry Hunter then you will get to go to an extremely hard but fun bonus area after you complete the game 100%. At the end of that the Sorceress will return and you will defeat her one final time and peace will be restored.
