2.0 - INTRODUCTION
==================

After looking at the armor recipes in other faqs, I was amazed at how much time
it takes to make ultimate equipment in this game.  I set out to see if the
recipes could be improved at all.  The answer was yes in most cases.  I posted
my recipes to the message board, and now I've collected them here in this
guide.

2.1 - Conventions
-----------------

Abbreviations will generally consist of four letters (e.g. UHDS).

First Letter: U

This stands for Ultimate.  Ultimate means the piece of equipment will have the
max stats possible.  That's 100 for Blunt, Edged, Piercing, and 100 for all
affinities.  This guide only discusses how to max Blunt, Edged, and Piercing,
since other faqs cover affinity maxing quite well.

Second Letter: Material

W = Wood
L = Leather
B = Bronze
I = Iron
H = Hagane
S = Silver
D = Damascus

Third Letter: Level

Mainly we're interested in these three:

H = Hoplite
J = Jazeraint
D = Dread

Fourth Letter: A (Armor) or S (Shield)

Examples:

ULHA means a complete set of ultimate leather hoplite armor.
UDDS means an ultimate damascus dread shield.

In the recipe steps, the parts will have the material indicated in (), and the
blunt/edged/piercing stats will be separated by /.  The drop rate will also be
indicated in () in the material list.  This number isn't a percentage, it's out
of 255.

Example: (L)Reinforced Glove 5/0/3 (16) means a leather Reinforced Glove with 5
blunt, 0 edged, and 3 piercing, and the drop rate is 16/255.

2.2 - Scoring
-------------

I came up with a scoring system so that recipes can be compared with each
other.  Thanks to Terence for finding the flaw in my first formula.  As an
example, let's look at the (D)Dread Helm (2nd game) materials from section 7.2:

For each part, you take the quantity needed and divide it by the drop rate.
Then simply add all these ratios together:

Score: 12/8 + 8/8 + 32/16 + 4/8 = 5.0

Lower scores are better.  If you multiply a score by 255, that gives you a
rough estimate of how many enemies you need to kill in order to gather all the
necessary materials.  In cases where a piece has a recipe listed in another
faq, I've listed the old score for that recipe, and the percent improvement is
given by:

100 * (1 - (score / old score))

4.0 - UDDS: Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield (2nd game)
=====================================================

Purpose: The best physical protection shield you can get.  The earliest you can
make this is the 2nd game.  The only way to get a damascus shield is by
combining damascus + damascus or wood + damascus.  The only way to get a wood
shield is by combining wood + wood.  Damascus shields are extremely limited
(chests only), so you need to use a lot of wood shields.  Combining wood +
damascus requires access to the Godhands workshop, which is only available on
2nd and later games.
