"If you own a PS2, you must buy this game"
FInal Fantasy X was one of the most anticipated titles ever, and easily lived up to the hype. I've played Final Fantasy VII and III/VI (SNES) and this (while not quite as good as VI) Is easily a step up from VII.
The graphics really show what the PS2 is capable of, and it's actually extremely impressive considering this game didn't come out that much later after PS2's release. Character models (although some look goofy) are done fairly well. The mouth movements are horrid, but don't really take away too much from the experience. The environments are definitely beautiful, especially in the woods, thunder plains, and zanarkand. The FMVS look amazing, but since they're not "in-game" I won't really consider them part of the game's graphics, but they do add a lot of enjoyment to the plot and are great.
The controls are great for a Final Fantasy game. Tidus does run awkwardly, but at least he isn't as slow as some other Final Fantasy characters you control in previous installments. The camera angles are good for the most part, but get annoying at times especially when you're searching, because you cannot control it whatsoever.
Final Fantasy has not added too much to the overall gameplay of the series, except for the sphere grid. This new addition allows players to choose their power-ups. Also, there is no leveling up in this game, instead you are allowed to move a certain amount of spaces on your grid and acheive power-ups through using orbs. Customizing weapons is also a lot of fun and adds some nice strategy to the game.
This game is looooonggg. It takes on average between 50-70 hours on the first playthrough, and that doesn't even include side-quests and clearing the sphere grid. The only thing about the value is that once you beat the game, I doubt most people will play it again. The replay value diminishes due to its length, but as mentioned earlier, it's about 50-70 hours on the first playthrough, so that's easily enough.
This game is simply amazing. The characters, the story, the graphics, the gameplay, and the value are all superb. You'll find yourself playing this game non-stop while the hours whizz by. You must buy or at least borrow this game. If you don't, then you mine-as-well not even have a PS2.
