    i. The Intro.
    -------------
    
    I'll try to keep this one short-ish. Err...
    
    I compiled this list of all the items and their locations while playing Silent
    Hill 2 because of the later replays I knew I'd make. The format I've decided on
    is to list each item as it appears in order, instead of giving lists by
    category. Explanations and notes on certain items that are required will be
    given.
    
    I did this guide because I couldn't find a guide which listed all of the items
    in detailed order, and especially once you've played through the game already,
    getting all the items to add to your rank, as well as helping you out as you
    play through the game is essential.
    
    I've added item descriptions to the items, however if they are repeat items
    (such as ammo or healing items) then the description will only be added the
    first time they are picked up.
    
    Any items I've missed, please feel to mail me with their locations so I can add
    them to the guide. The only other note is that reference to your map would be a
    must if you're unsure of the location of items listed here.
    
    Please also note this items guide now covers both James' quest in the original
    PS2 version of the game as well as the Director's Cut and the X-Box version of
    James' quest also. The blue jem item has been added to the listing as well as
    a complete listing for Maria's "Born From A Wish" scenario has been placed
    after the extras section, so that you can get the best out of that scenario as
    well (even though it doesn't have a rank).

    IMPORTANT NOTES:
    ----------------
    
     1. Bonus Items:
    
    So far I've gotten most of the bonus items. I'm currently replaying through
    the game to get the Rebirth ending and haven't yet gotten the final book.
    I'm also yet to get the Dog Key and Dog Ending.
    
    Both are currently listed, including the info as how to get them, I just haven't
    yet added descriptions. When both of these are added this guide will be
    100% complete as far as I believe is possible. Right now it's like 99% :)
    
    Version 1.0 Update - All additional items have been added to the guide making it
    100% as far as I know now.
    
    
     2. About Directions:
    
    On street maps, north is always north (thanks to the compass on the map)
    and so directions are always referred to from that.
    
    In location maps (like the hospital or prison) I may use both compass
    directions and real directions on the map. If I say something is in the left of
    the room or off to the left, then I'm referring to how the room is positioned on
    the map (unless indicated in the item details). When it comes to compass on
    these maps left is always west, up is always north, etc. as these maps don't
    have a bearing on them.
    
    This especially comes in handy when it comes to the later underground sections.
    
    
     3. Locating Items:
    
    Watch James' head when tracking items you need to find. While this can be
    difficult in areas of darkness, keep an eye on the shadow of his head instead.
    He has great eye sight... maybe too good for the dark and fog, but he can easily
    see 15 paces away in most directions around him. This means more or less finding
    every item listed in this guide will be made easier for you.
    
    
     4. Comparing Guides - About The Total:
    
    After first competing my guide I had the total of 268(+7), deciding that I may
    be missing items I cross referenced my list with other guide authors. All the
    guides seemed to have grabbed a large number of items, but the guide by
    Jackspade gave a total of 269(+7) not including maps!!!
    
    Seeing this I freaked, thinking I had missed something - just a single item.
    Instead, comparing I began to notice items missing off his list that were on
    mine. That didn't make much sense until I added up his totals given before
    item sections. Including the bonus items, which he'd obviously counted into
    his total he had 269 items listed, which actually meant he had 262(+7) as
    the end result.
    
    Thanks to the various SH2 FAQ authors for providing a benchmark for me to
    check my completed list against. It has made rechecking item locations and
    numbers a little easier than just doing it replaying the game. I seem to
    maintain certain habits, so an alternative prospective is always helpful.
    
    Still at this time I'm beginning to worry I have missed something. But 268(+7)
    seems like more than all you'd ever need for a gold rank anyway... :p
    
    Version 1.0 update: The guide is now at 270(+7) - which is probably every item
    in the game as far as I know. Still any others found would be gladly added.

    10.0 -----> Silent Hill 2 Pt. 10 - The Extras
    
    Just incase you're only looking for info on the extra items, here is everything
    you'll find after the first or subsequent playthroughs. These extras do list
    the locations of the specific items, however if you want more accurate
    locations check through the above guide.
    
    To specifically find the bonus items in the full listing press Ctrl+F and then
    search for a plus sign (this: + ). This will go through and find all of the
    Bonus items for you.
    
    
    - Chainsaw
      "Gas powered chainsaw. Extremely high attack power."
    
      On the second playthough you'll find the chainsaw stuck in some logs on the
      way into town, just past the graveyard. The weapon has a high attack power
      but comes at the disadvantage of average speed and small strike distance.
      Timed right however the Chainsaw can be used easily enough to stick with you
      throughout most of the entire game.
    
      It seems the first game has to be of a Normal or higher difficulty level. If
      you play through the game first on Easy action, the chainsaw won't appear
      after you finish - not until you finish on Normal action mode once.
    
    
    - "Rebirth" Items
      White Chrism
      "Glass bottle containing milky white anointing oil."
      Book of Lost Memories
      "A book about the history and legends of this town and the surrounding area."
      Obsidian Goblet
      "Ancient-looking goblet carved from pure obsidian. Found it in the old
       museum."
      Book of Crimson Ceremony
      "About some ancient god. Author unknown."
    
      Another second playthrough bonus. These four items when collected will give
      you the additional 4th ending to the game. The White Chrism is located within
      the Blue Creek Apartment Building. The Book of Lost Memories is at the Texxon
      petrol station on Nathan Ave. The Obsidian Goblet inside the Silent Hill
      Historical Society. And finally the Book of Crimson Cermony is located in the
      Reading Room of the destroyed Lakeview Hotel.
    
    
    - Hyper Spray
      "Suspicious spray can. Effect unknown."
    
      On your third playthrough you'll find the Hyper Spray inside of the trailer
      home on Saul Street. This spray comes in different colors and has various
      attacks on enemies. You get different colored sprays through getting better
      ranks, and obviously the higher the rank the better the spray. You can boost
      your total rank by getting more gold ratings overall.

    - Dog Key
      "Found inside a dog house. No idea where to use it."
    
      On your forth playthrough you'll find this additional key and doghouse in a
      yard on the southern side of Nathan Avenue. This is to the left of the the
      motel yard on the corner of Nathan Avenue and Munson Street. If you're still
      having difficulty finding it then the easiest way is to go to the exit of
      Rosewater Park and then face Nathan Avenue. If you walk right across the
      street you'll walk straight into the yard.
    
      To use this key then you'll have to wait until you're at the Lakeside Hotel.
      After the visit to Room 312, when you exit the room walk down the hall. You
      can save at the end of the hall if you wish, then go to the double doors
      between the save spot and Room 312. Here you will use the Dog Key. Go inside
      to get the bonus and utterly random weirdness which is the "Dog" ending.
    
    
    - Blue Gem
      "Maybe I could use it somewhere..."
    
      Found in the X-Box version (Silent Hill 2: Saigo No Uta, Restless Dreams, or
      Inner Fears depending on which country you're living in) or the budget PS2
      release (Greatest Hits in the US or the Platinum "Director's Cut" in PAL
      format), this item will allow you to get yet another bonus ending - the UFO
      ending.
    
      To find the Gem at the start of James' quest, you must first finish his
      scenario once. You must also finish Maria's scenario once as well. When you
      have accomplished this the gem will appear on the floor in the back of the
      toilets where James' scenario begins. Once you have this item if you use it
      in the following locations you will recieve the UFO ending. Those locations
      are:
    
      Alternate Brook Haven Hospital - Garden
          When you've beaten the hanging bosses and are transported into the
          alternate world, you'll be in a small room but be on grass and be where
          it is raining. This is actually a part of the hospitals garden. Use the
          blue gem here.
    
      Toluca Boat Launch
          After fighting with Eddie, you'll arrive outside onto the boat launch.
          Before you use the boat, go into your menu and use the blue gem again
          here.
    
      Lakeview Hotel - Room 312
          When you reach Room 312, go over to the window and use the blue gem for
          the third time. When you do so you'll recieve the ending.
    
      There's an interesting thing programmed into the game that you can also take
      advantage of in this situation should you be playing the PS2 re-release. If
      you have the original version's save file on one of the memory cards in your
      PS2 at the same time, anything you've unlocked in that version is
      automatically unlocked in this version. If you've completed James' scenario
      already as well of course, that means the game will register it and you'll
      only have to finish Maria's one before the gem appears.
