1-FAQ:
Q:What is so important about events?
A:Often times they can make the difference between
victory and death. If you've got a fresh character
taking on Lu Bu, you'll want a way to make him
weaker any way you can.
Q:How do I...?
A:Before asking a question, make sure it isn't
covered in another FAQ already. Asking questions that
are already answered is not a smart thing to do.
Q:Why make a FAQ on a topic that's already covered?
And why for such an old game?
A:Because I found the FAQ that already existed to be
inaccurate and missing some content.
Q:Codes! I need codes! What's the code for...?
A:The only codes that work are listed in the Codes &
Secrets section on GameFAQs. Any code not listed there does
not work.
Q:What's up with these names? Xu Zhu? Da Qiao? I've never
heard of names like those before!
A:They're Chinese names. Like in any culture, the names
used in China are a lot different from the rest of the world.
How do you pronounce them? I have no clue, ask someone that
knows how to speak Chinese.
Q:How come some people call this same character something
else than their name?
A:Some characters are known by more than one name. For example
Zhuge Liang is also known as Kongming.
Q:I'm still confused about the names! Can you help me?
A:Chances are you're reading a FAQ for the Japanese version(Shin
Sangoku Musou 2). Japanese versions of Chinese words have
radically different pronunciations and are spelt differently in
English letters.
Q:Why is the number of the USA and Japanese versions different?
A:I have no idea, but here's a list of the Dynasty Warriors
games for easier localization:
Dynasty Warriors-Sangoku Musou
Dynasty Warriors 2-Shin Sangoku Musou
Dynasty Warriors 3-Shin Sangoku Musou 2
Dynasty Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends-Shin Sangoku 2 Mushouden
Dynasty Warriors 4-Shin Sangoku Musou 3
Q:What's the Three Kingdoms?
A:The Three Kingdoms are Shu, Wu, and Wei. They did actually
exist in ancient China. However, the Three Kingdoms were made
famous by a novel called Romance of the Three Kingdoms, AKA
San Guo Yan Yi. The novel is historical fantasy, so a lot of
the things that happen in it(as well as the video games) are
not accurate(go ahead and tell me that Zhuge Liang actually
could shoot lasers from his fan in reality...).
Q:ARGH! I can't beat this guy/stage! Any tips?
A:Read the other FAQs and fight dirty. Knowledge is half the victory
and surviving is the other half.
Q:Hey, isn't that event wrong?
A:Chances are, no. I've certainly played enough to know basically
everything about the game :P But if you spot something that could
be an error, feel free to notify me about it.
Q:What about special equipment events?
A:They're covered in a multitude of others' FAQs. I'm not about
to take credit for something I didn't do. However, I've listed
a few of them for the sake of completeness.
Q:Entry point? Don't you mean gate?
A:Yes and no. The places where troops constantly flow from
are indeed called gates, but it would be confusing if I called
those gates as well because practically every large building
you can enter is entered through a gate.
Q:The event didn't happen! What's wrong?
A:Most likely the ticker just has a lot of messages to say.
Events usually don't happen until the ticker catches up
with the action on the battlefield. Sometimes if the ticker
has too many messages it will just skip some. Also, many of
the requirements are different in XL's original mode so the
requirements I've listed may not work. Oh, and one more
possibility is that you didn't fulfill the requirements.
With some events there is no notification of how close
you are to fulfilling the requirements(such as the infamous
archer ambush at He Fei Castle).
Q:The names of those events are all wrong!
Why do you call them what you call them?
A:There are no names for the events, so I just labeled
them something that sums them up well.
Q:I thought that event unlocked a character or something,
why isn't that listed as an effect?
A:This is an event guide, not a character unlocking
or special item guide. Check other FAQs for that.
Q:How do I get that event to happen? I don't have that
side/stage unlocked!
A:Check another FAQ or use the codes to unlock what
you want. I deem unlocking things inappropriate for an
event guide, especially since they are covered in many
other FAQs already.
Q:ARGH! What's up with this stupid spacing?
A:Blame submission guidelines. For reasons
that are in my opinion very stupid, FAQs submitted
are not accepted if they go over 80 characters wide.
While I could use another place to put my FAQ's at,
but FAQ's are useless if nobody sees them.

2-Updates:
3/13/03:Version 0 started.
3/22/03:Version 0 completed.
3/27/03:0.5:Added Dian Wei's death at Wan Castle,
all events for Guan Yu's Escape, added Jie Ting,
Mountain Bandit Campaign, Rogue Fortress, and
Pirate Attack. Changed requirements for Zhang Jiao
freezing the river at YTR. Only a few events
missing now.
4/29/03:0.7:Added the Huang Gai killed event at Chi
Bi and did some minor changes elsewhere. I do
believe this is the only event I was missing. In
addition, I corrected the names of the music and
added events that can occur in any stage.
4/01/03:0.8:Added more events that can be done in
all stages, a note about timed events, and Zhu Ran's
fire attack failing at Yi Ling.
5/06/03:0.9:Added the Xu Huang/Guan Yu event in
Fan Castle, in all likelihood the very last missing
event! I also added a bit in the FAQ part, added two
Huang Gai events at Chi Bi, and did
some minor editing.
5/17/03:1.0:Added Sun Jian in danger event at Hu Lao
Gate, KO events, and fixed the
requirements for Shu reinforcements at Fan
Castle. I also discovered the requirements for
Zhang Bao dropping the boulders, and added and
corrected a little bit more
9/25/03:2.0:Added more all stage events, minor layout
change, and tweaked some event requirements. This is
the final update. Afterall, DW4 beckons!

3-Events:
Notes:All events have their own effect on the game.
Most effect only the battle you're in by changing
morale and can be triggered by any character in either
Musou Mode or Free Mode. Whenever multiple
requirements are listed, you only need to fulfill one
of them unless otherwise noted. Events dependent on
time usually vary depending on how well your side is
doing. If your side is doing well, an event should be
triggered sooner. If your side is doing poor,
it should be delayed. THIS GUIDE CONTAINS MASSIVE
SPOILERS! Use at your own discretion. Also note that
just because I've listed methods to prevent something
doesn't mean it's a good idea... One more note. When
an enemy officer dies via an event, you can still grab
the power up or item they drop if you're nearby.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////
All Stages:
_____ has begun battle with ____:
Requirements:Troops from opposing sides meet. This
does not apply for the players and their bodyguards.
Effects:The troops begin to fight once they see
each other.
Morale drops:
Requirements:Set number of soldiers are killed,
an officer in the unit is killed, or another
event.
Effects:Morale for the specified unit drops one
point.
Note:Every time the number of soldiers killed
causes morale to drop, the required amount
increases.
Morale rises:
Requirements:An enemy officeris defeated by a
troop or officer in the specified unit, or
another event. An enemy unit destroyed will
raise morale for all allied units that have
already begun battle with them. If the leader
of a unit has not yet appeared, the unit is
immune to morale changes. If all units that
the morale bonus can be awarded to already
have maximum morale(8 stars), there is no
effect.
Effects:Morale for the specified unit rises
one point. Often times when triggered by another
event, an enemy unit's morale will rise two
points instead of one.
_____'s troop has been scattered:
Requirements:Specified subordinate officer has
been killed.
Effects:Triggers morale changes and other events.
If an officer is killed by a flying body, there is
no indication as to who killed them and you don't
get the credit for it. Don't use charge 4(SSST)
if you want points for killing officers. You won't
get this message for an officer killed by a flying
body.
______'s troop has been destroyed/obliterated:
Requirements:Specified officer has been killed.
Effects:Triggers morale changes, causes
subordinates to retreat, and other events.
______'s troop is retreating:
Requirements:Superior officer defeated.
Effects:Specified officer vanishes if not in
visual range of the player, retreats if within
visual range. On rare occasions, the AI causes
subordinate officers to become rogues in the
middle of a battle and attack even though their
superior is dead!
_____'s force is in trouble:
Requirements:Specified unit is in battle with
an enemy unit with double the morale.
Effects:None. This is just a warning for you,
if you don't help out, the unit in trouble is
very likely doomed.
HQ is in trouble!:
Requirements:Commander's health below 50%
during actual battle(as opposed to sitting
still) or commander personally fighting against
a unit with double the morale.
Effects:None. I strongly recommend that you
go and help your commander though...
You're good!:
Requirement:Get 50 KO's.
Effects:Unknown. Getting any number of KO's
below 1000 doesn't seem to directly influence
anything, but at times it seems to raise your
unit's morale.
Don't get cocky!:
Requirements:Enemy officer gets 100(200, etc) KO's.
Effects:None. This message tells you that you
had better take out that officer before your side
is completely screwed.
You are a true hero of the Three Kingdoms!:
Requirements:Officer gets 1000 KO's.
Effects:Every unit on your side gets
maximum morale as soon as the ticker
catches up. Definitely one of the
better events.
The Yellow Turban Rebellion:
Zhang Bao drops boulders on Han forces:
Requirements:1 minute elapsed.
Side:Han
Prevention:Defeat in Zhang Bao in under 60 seconds.
Kudos if you can do it with a Wu character on hard!
Effects:Boulders fall randomly around the east gate
of the castle. They do percentage-based damage like
the death element on certain weapons. Boulders can't
kill you or any officer, but they definitely can kill
nameless soldiers. If Zhang Bao is left alive for long
after he starts dropping boulders, Lu Zhi will suffer
heavy damage.
Zhang Bao rolls boulders down a hill:
Requirements:You, Liu Bei, or Zhang Bao reach the
curve on the hill in the east.
Side:Han
Prevention:Beat the stage before anyone advances.
Effects:Very large boulders roll down the hill and
break when they hit one of the "walls." They do damage
similar to the ones that are dropped near the east gate.
Character breaks a boulder:
Requirements:Your character nears the entry point at the
top of the hill after the boulders start rolling.
Side:Han
Prevention:Don't go up the hill.
Effects:The boulders stop rolling down the hill and
your unit's morale increases.
Zhang Liang freezes the river:
Requirements:Zhang Liang's morale drops, you meet
Zhang Liang, or Zhang Jiao appears north of the river.
Side:Han
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:The river can now be walked on by all forces.
Zhang Jiao appears in the east:
Requirements:Meet Zhang Bao before you meet Zhang Liang
and Zhang Jiao has not moved to the north coast.
Side:Han
Prevention:Meet Zhang Liang before Zhang Bao or defeat
Zhang Jiao before he moves into the castle or north of
the river. It doesn't matter who defeats Zhang Jiao when
he is in the south.
Effects:Zhang Jiao and a group of soldiers appears
near the east gate.
Lu Zhi's ambush:
Requirements:Time passes or player nears east gate of
the castle.
Side:Yellow Turbans
Prevention:Stay away form the east gate and beat the
stage fast.
Effects:An ambush appears in Lu Zhi's vicinity.
The troops of the ambush are in Lu Zhi's unit.
Even if he is killed the ambush will still occur
once the requirements are fulfilled, the same
goes for the ambushes of Huangfu Song and Zhu
Jun.
Zhang Jiao appears in the west:
Requirements:Meet Zhang Liang before you meet Zhang Bao
and Zhang Jiao is defeated in the south.
Side:Han
Prevention:Meet Zhang Bao first or defeat Zhang Jiao when
he's still in the south.
Effects:Zhang Jiao and some soldiers appear near the
west gate of the castle.
Huangfu Song's ambush:
Requirements:Time passes or player nears west gate of
the castle.
Side:Yellow Turbans
Prevention:Stay away from the west gate and beat
the stage fast.
Effects:An ambush appears in Huangfu Song's vicinity.
Zhang Jiao appears in the castle:
Requirements:Zhang Jiao is defeated in the south.
Side:Han
Prevention:Go far north. There's a path in the west that
lets you cross the river, or you could cross the river when
it's frozen.
Effects:Zhang Jiao and some soldiers appear inside the castle,
around Huangfu Song's starting position. On hard this will
be a notable threat to He Jin.
Zhu Jun's ambush:
Requirements:Time passes or player nears south gate
of the castle.
Side:Yellow Turbans
Prevention:Stay away from the south gate and beat
the stage fast.
Effects:An ambush appears in the southeast of the
castle.
Zhang Jiao appears north of the river:
Requirements:Zhang Jiao is defeated after his appearance
in the castle or your character travels too far north.
Side:Han
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Zhang Jiao and a large number of soldiers appear
north of the river, Zhang Liang will freeze the river(if he
hasn't already), Zhang Man Cheng's force will appear south
of the castle, and the entry point nearby Zhang Jiao will
become active. The music also changes to "Tyrant" and all
Yellow Turban morale will rise.
Zhang Jiao freezes the river:
Requirements:Zhang Liang is defeated and an enemy
officer has advanced far north.
Side:Yellow Turbans
Prevention:Beat the stage first.
Effects:The river can be walked on. The Yellow Turban
forces north of the river will also storm the castle.
The music changes to "Last Stand".
Zhang Liang's ambush appears:
Requirements:Unknown.
Side:Han
Prevention:Defeat Zhang Liang.
Effects:Cheng Yuanzhi, Deng Mao, and troops appear
around the west.
A Han ambush appears:
Requirements:Sun Jian, Cao Cao, or Liu Bei is defeated
or 15 minutes elapse.
Side:Yellow Turbans
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Zhang Chao and Liu Yan appear in the southwest
and northeast respectively with sizable forces.
The Battle at Hu Lao Gate:
Lu Bu attacks Yuan Shu's force:
Requirements:Lu Bu personally meets any soldier from the
allied forces. The music changes to "DW Terrible Mix."
Side:Dong Zhuo
Prevention:Defeat Lu Bu before he reaches Yuan Shu's
men. Basically only fast Shu characters can do this
because it tends to happen so early on and they have the
most direct path to Lu Bu.
Effect:Yuan Shu's morale drops.
Sun Jian's force is in danger:
Requirements:Yuan Shu survives against Lu Bu for about
2 minutes after the Lu Bu attacking Yuan Shu event.
Side:allies
Prevention:Let Yuan Shu die or prevent the Lu Bu
attacking Yuan Shu event.
Effects:Sun Jian's morale drops.
Lu Bu's force retreats:
Requirements:Lu Bu personally meets with Guan Yu, Zhang
Fei, and Liu Bei all at once. The event will not happen
if any of them are controlled by either player.
Side:both
Prevention:Obviously, if Lu Bu doesn't meet all three of
them at once it won't happen. Kill one of them or let them
die depending on what side you're on.
Effects:Lu Bu's morale drops and all his forces regroup.
The area they regroup will sometimes vary, I'm not sure
what affects this.
Lu Bu defects:
Requirements:Diao Chan is killed
Side:Dong Zhuo
Prevention:Keep Diao Chan alive or play as Lu Bu.
Effects:Lu Bu defects and his own morale rises.
Diao Chan defects:
Requirements:Zhang Ji, Hua Xiong, Guo Si, Li Jue, and
Xu Rong are killed.
Side:Dong Zhuo
Prevention:Keep at least one of them alive or play as
Diao Chan.
Effects:Diao Chan's entire force switches sides and Dong
Zhuo orders Lu Bu to kill her. Lu Bu will promptly advance
to her position. Diao Chan's morale rises as soon as she
defects.
Archers appear on the ridges:
Requirements:Player enters curvy path in the south before
Hu Lao Gate opens. It actually isn't triggered until you
move past the crate containing a quiver of arrows.
Side:Allies
Prevention:Wait until Hu Lao Gate falls before heading
into the curvy path in the south.
Effects:15 archers appear on the ridges. The only
problem with this is that it's impossible to reach
the archers if you have no arrows, so you may want
to reserve your arrows or just ignore
them completely.
Li Jue and Guo Si appear:
Requirements:15 minutes elapsed.
Side:Allies
Prevention:Beat the level fast.
Effects:Li Jue and Guo Si's large armies appear in the north
and now their troops will flow out of the entry point that Fan
Chou's does/did.
An assault unit appears:
Requirements:Player gets within range of the archers in the
towers near Hu Lao Gate before it opens.
Side:Allies
Prevention:Let your allies open Hu Lao Gate first.
Effects:An Assault Captain and four majors appear with large
battering rams.
Hu Lao Gate opens:
Requirements:
Dong Zhuo's side:Player nears Hu Lao Gate or Dong Zhuo
advances.
Allied side:Very mysterious, multiple requirements can
trigger it. Lowering Dong Zhuo's morale two points with
the Assault Captain alive is one way. There is at least
one more way to trigger it with the Assault Captain alive,
but I'm not certain about the requirements. If the Assault
Captain dies before it opens Li Ru will appear and killing
him opens the gate.
Prevention:Only if you play on Dong Zhuo's side. Kill Yuan Shao
before Dong Zhuo advances without getting near Hu Lao Gate.
Effects:Hu Lao Gate opens.
Li Ru appears:
Requirements:Hu Lao Gate opens or the Assault Captain dies
before it opens.
Side:Allies
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Li Ru and some backup troops appear, all are in
Dong Zhuo's unit. Music changes to "Tyrant".
Fan Shui Gate opens:
Requirements:Hu Zhen and Zhao Cen are killed, Hua Xiong
is killed, or another general on Dong Zhuo's side approaches
it from the east.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't let Hu Zhen and Zhao Cen or Hua Xiong die
and don't let any other enemy generals approach it from the
east.
Effects:Fan Shui Gate opens.
The east gate opens:
Requirements:Wang Fang or Xu Rong are killed or one of the
other generals on Dong Zhuo's side gets close to it.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage before it happens.
Effects:The east gate opens.
Guan Yu VS Hua Xiong:
Requirements:Guan Yu personally meets Hua Xiong. If Guan Yu
is played by either player the event will not happen. It is
very unlikely to happen unless you are playing as Liu Bei and
lead your forces to Hua Xiong.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't allow Guan Yu to go near Hua Xiong. Normally
their paths don't cross so this is one thing you shouldn't
worry about.
Effects:Hua Xiong dies instantly, Zhao Cen and Hu Zhen retreat,
and Fan Shui Gate opens.
Zhang Liao's betrayal:
Requirements:Player-controlled Zhang Liao meets Lu Bu.
Side:Allies
Prevention:Stay away from Lu Bu.
Effects:It's just a special battle intro.
Note:In Free Mode there will still be a Zhang Liao as
a subordinate for Lu Bu(freaky!), but in Zhang Liao's
Musou Mode Lu Bu has Zhang Ji as a subordinate instead.
Don't pursue Lu Bu:
Requirements:Player meets Lu Bu, or Lu Bu retreats.
Side:allies
Prevention:Stay away from Lu Bu and beat the stage before he
meets Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei.
Effects:Allied morale rises and Lu Bu's morale drops.
Surprise Attack on Liu Biao:
Banner breaks:
Requirements:Your character nears the area around the entry
point in the southeast that is for Liu Biao's forces.
Side:Sun Jian
Prevention:Steer clear of the entry points by the boats. It's
not like you gain anything either way.
Effects:None. This event can be triggered at any time
and does nothing. It does have a small purpose though.
In XL, Zhang Jiao explains that "if a banner breaks in
a strong wind the enemy is planning an ambush."
Lu Gong retreats:
Requirements:Sun Jian nears Lu Gong's starting point.
Whether Lu Gong is a live or not makes no difference.
Side:both
Prevention:Kuai Liang is defeated first.
Effects:Lu Gong begins to retreat to the castle and Sun Jian
is very likely to follow him.
Assassination:
Requirements:Sun Jian enters the circle-shaped area near the
castle's east gate after Lu Gong retreats and Kuai Liang is
still alive.
Side:both
Prevention:Kuai Liang's defeat.
Effects:If you are on Sun Jian's side and not playing as him,
he will die instantly along with all the troops he commands.
Sun Ce will become your commander and morale for all units(ally
and enemy alike) will rise. If you are on Liu Biao's side or
playing as Sun Jian, this event has no effect.
The Battle at Wan Castle:
Cao Cao's retreat:
Requirements:Dian Wei dies.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep Dian Wei alive.
Effects:If you are playing on Cao Cao's side and not as Cao Cao
or Dian Wei, Cao Cao will be able to retreat and cause a victory
for you. If you are playing on Zhang Xiu's side Cao Cao will
begin to retreat. Either way, Cao Cao won't successfully retreat
until he reaches the entry point that Hu Che Er's force uses.
Cao Cao's side wins.
Cao Cao's reinforcements arrive:
Requirements:
Cao Cao:10 minutes elapse.
Zhang Xiu:Time passes or player enters northwest area.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:A good-sized set of reinforcements appear for Cao Cao,
including two officers(either Zhen Ji+Zhang Liao or the Xiahou
brothers).
Cao Cao's ambush party appears:
Requirements:Player reaches one of many points in the stage.
Side:Zhang Xiu
Prevention:Most likely impossible.
Effects:An ambush appears near the location you reached.
Thought Cao Cao doesn't have any entry points on his side,
the insane number of archers that appear in these events
(yes, THESE not this) make Zhang Xiu's side tougher. There
are too many locations to list so basically just stay
on your toes.
Dian Wei won't give up:
Requirements:Dian Wei is defeated.
Side:both
Prevention:Let Dian Wei live.
Effects:Dian Wei Gate opens and Cao Cao will try to
escape.
Assault on the Wu Territory:
The east gate opens:
Requirements:Cheng Heng and Zhang Ying are defeated.
Side:Sun Ce
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:The east gate opens.
Attack from both sides:
Requirements:Unknown. Appears to have a connection
with Sun Ce(Sun Jian) advancing.
Side:Sun Ce
Prevention:Beat the level fast.
Effects:The forces do indeed divide, but sometimes Zhou
Yu and Sun Ce(Sun Jian) stick together.
Sun Ce VS Taishi Ci:
Requirements:Player-controlled Sun Ce meets Taishi Ci
while he's on the allies' side.
Side:Sun Ce
Prevention:Stay away.
Effects:None, it's just a special battle intro but
technically an event as well.
Taishi Ci's defection:
Requirements:Liu Yong is defeated before Wang Lang, Yan
Bai Hu, or Taishi Ci.
Side:Sun Ce
Prevention:Defeat Wang Lang, Yan Bai Hu, or Taishi Ci
before you defeat Liu Yong.
Effects:Taishi Ci and most of his troops defect. Oddly
enough some of Taishi Ci's troops stay on the allied side
and act as if Taishi Ci was defeated instead of having
defected.
The Battle at Guan Du:
Liu Bei retreats:
Requirements:Guan Yu begins battle with Liu Bei.
Side:Cao Cao
Prevention:Defeat Liu Bei.
Effects:Liu Bei and Zhang Fei retreat, and Guan Yu's
morale rises.
Guan Yu VS Yan Liang:
Requirements:Guan Yu meets Yan Liang.
Side:both
Prevention:Kill Guan Yu or Yan Liang or play as Guan Yu.
Effects:Yan Liang dies instantly. If you are playing
on Yuan Shao's side, Wen Chou will rush to engage Guan Yu.
The morale of Yuan Shao's forces will drop.
Guan Yu VS Wen Chou:
Requirements:Guan Yu meets Wen Chou.
Side:both
Prevention:Kill Guan Yu, Yan Liang, Wen Chou, or play
as Guan Yu.
Effects:Wen Chou dies instantly. Yuan Shao's morale
takes a dive.
Wu Chao compound discovered:
Requirements:You discover it. There are four possible
locations and it seems to be random as to which
location it is in.
Side:Cao Cao
Prevention:Beat the stage without going into one of
the fenced-off areas.
Effects:Cao Cao's forces will advance on the location
and the morale will rise. Music will also change to
"Superior".
Wu Chao compound burned:
Requirements:Wu Chao compound discovered and Chun
Yuqiong defeated.
Side:Cao Cao
Prevention:Don't personally kill Chun Yuqiong.
Effects:Changes what happens at the 20 minutes
elapsed mark slightly and morale for Cao Cao's
side soars. Music changes back to "Crisis".
No need for strategy here:
Requirements:20 minutes elapsed.
Side:Cao Cao
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:None if Wu Chao compound has been burned.
If Wu Chao compound hasn't been burned yet you'll
get a message from Cao Cao asking if it's been
discovered yet.
Archers appear:
Requirements:
Cao Cao:Yan Liang is alive for 3 minutes.
Yuan Shao:unknown
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Yan Liang before 3 minutes pass.
Effects:A noteworthy number of towers appear east of
the castle, each with three archers. This also lowers
the morale of Cao Cao's side.
Castle wall topples:
Requirements:
Cao Cao:Wen Chou is alive for 10 minutes.
Yuan Shao:unknown
Prevention:Defeat Wen Chou before 10 minutes pass.
Effects:The majority of the northern wall of the
castle vanishes. Whatever is left of Wen Chou's
unit will storm the castle.
Guan Yu's Escape:
Notes:Unless I'm mistaken, only Guan Yu and
Xiahou Dun get this stage in Musou Mode. Hence
why I listed them instead of the name of the
side they're on.
Gate opens:
Guan Yu:Zhang He, Zhen Ji, Xiahou Yuan, Xu Huang,
or Xu Zhu and Xiahou Dun are defeated.
Xiahou Dun:Guan Yu reaches a gate.
Prevention:Don't have Guan Yu reach a gate.
Good luck preventing Guan Yu from opening
the first gate...
Effects:The appropriate gate(listed in order)
opens. If the fifth gate opens, Guan Yu wins.
Ambush:
Requirements:Reach Xiahou En's initial
position or defeat Xiahou Yuan.
Side:Guan Yu
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:About 15 troops appear nearby
Xiahou En's initial position.
Shu defense troops appear:
Requirements:Guan Yu clears a gate.
Side:Xiahou Dun
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Shu forces appear near the
appropriate gate.
Xiahou Dun appears:
Requirements:Xiahou Yuan is defeated.
Side:Guan Yu
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Xiahou Dun appears near the
area where you started and advances.
Carriage's durability drops 50 points:
Requirements:Carriage advances ahead
of Guan Yu and is left alone momentarily.
Contrary to what it may seem, the carriage
cannot be damaged by anything.
Side:Guan Yu
Prevention:Don't let the carriage
out of your sight!
Effects:The carriage's durability(health)
drops fifty points. It starts out at 250,
so if you let it advance too far ahead of
you it won't last long.
The Battle of Chang Ban:
Cao Cao's main force arrives:
Requirements:
Liu Bei:10 minutes elapsed or Xiahou Dun,
Zhang Liao, and Xu Zhu are defeated.
Cao Cao:unknown
Side:both
Prevention:If you are on Cao Cao's side, defeat Liu Bei
before it happens.
Effects:Cao Cao and his large army appears. He has four
subordinate officers, most notably Cao Hong who appears
with about 40 troops and is a threat to one of Liu Bei's
side's entry points and the peasants as well.
Fight me if you dare:
Requirements:Player or Zhang Fei meets enemies on Chang
Ban Bridge.
Side:Liu Bei for the player, both for Zhang Fei.
Prevention:Steer clear of the bridge and have Zhang Fei
defeated if you aren't playing as him.
Effects:Morale for Cao Cao's side will drop.
Don't touch my lord:
Requirements:After Cao Cao's main force appears, player
is on a horse and nearby Liu Bei.
Side:Liu Bei
Prevention:Steer clear of Liu Bei.
Effects:Morale for Liu Bei's unit increases.
Rescue ship arrives:
Requirements:2 minutes elapse after Cao Cao arrives.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Liu Bei hurrys up and waits near it for the
peasants to escape if you're on his side. If you're on
Cao Cao's side, the peasants advance first.
Liu Bei retreats:
Requirements:
Liu Bei's side:Rescue ships must have appeared,
Liu Bei must have personally reached his destination,
all the peasants must be led to safety, and at least
two enemy units remain.
Cao Cao's side:Liu Bei reaches his destination. If
there are any peasants left Liu Bei will wait on them
to escape first.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat either Liu Bei or Cao Cao first.
If you are playing on Cao Cao's side your forces can
also force Liu Bei to a standstill. If you are playing
as Liu Bei on his own side this will not happen.
Effects:Liu Bei's side wins.
Peasants led to safety:
Requirements:Sun Qian, Mi Fang, Liu Feng, Chen Zhen,
and/or Jian Yong lead their peasants to the entry point
near where the rescue ship arrives.
Side:both

peasants. Do note that peasants are weaker than privates.
Effects:Morale for Liu Bei's side increases.
Peasants wiped out:
Requirements:All the peasants under Sun Qian, Mi Fang,
Liu Feng, Chen Zhen, or Jian Yong are killed. There are
15 peasants for each officer.
Side:both
Prevention:Peasants not killed.
Effects:Morale for Liu Bei's side drops and Liu Bei
whines about his people.
How pathetic:
Requirements:Player is anywhere on the central path
after the rescue ships arrive.
Side:Cao Cao
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Cao Cao's morale will rise.
The Battle at Chi Bi:
Zhuge Liang is a devil:
Requirements:Officer guarding the place of prayer
is alive for a few minutes. Mi Zhu for Shu, Lu Meng
or Lu Xun for Wu and Wei depending on your character.
Side:all
Prevention:Officer guarding place of prayer is defeated.
Effects:Huang Gai starts heading for his destination.
Whoa, wind!:
Requirements:Zhuge Liang succeeds.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Pick another side or let Mi Zhu die.
Effects:Huang Gai starts heading for his destination
if he hasn't already.
Wei forces storm the place of prayer:
Requirements:Officer guarding place of prayer is defeated
before the wind blows. The officer will be either Lu Meng
or Lu Xun depending on what character you chose and mode.
Side:Wei
Prevention:Keep that officer alive until the wind blows.
Effects:The wind will not blow and the fire attack will
be prevented.
Go forth Huang Gai:
Requirements:Zhuge Liang is successful.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Defeat the officer protecting the place of
prayer, Huang Gai, or Zhou Yu before the wind blows.
Effects:Huang Gai will head for his destination. If you
are playing as Huang Gai on either side you will have to
personally go to your destination. The fire attack will
sometime after Huang Gai reaches his destination.
How could my plan have been beaten?:
Requirements:Officer guarding place of prayer is defeated
before the wind blows or Huang Gai or Zhou Yu is defeated
before the fire attack.
Side:all
Prevention:Allow the fire attack.
Effects:Morale for Wu(and Shu if you're on that side)
will drop since the fire attack failed.
Huang Gai's unit is ready!:
Requirements:Huang Gai reaches his destination after the
wind blows, he and Zhou Yu are alive, and Huang Gai has
made preparations.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Either don't let the wind blow or don't let
Huang Gai reach his destination. Having Zhou Yu defeated
also works.
Effects:The fire attack is launched.
The fire attack succeeds:
Requirements:The wind blows, Huang Gai reaches his
destination, and both Huang Gai and Zhou Yu are alive.
Side:all
Prevention:Defeat the officer guarding the place of prayer
before the wind blows, defeat Huang Gai before he reaches his
destination, or defeat Zhou Yu any time before it happens.
Effects:Wei morale drops and the geography of the stage
changes slightly. The ships near the middle connect and
All of Wei's ships are set on fire.
Huang Gai is killed:
Requirements:Fire attack succeeds, Huang Gai, and
Zhang Liao alive a few minute afterwards.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Stop the fire attack or defeat Huang
Gai or Zhang Liao before it happens.
Effects:Haung Gai is killed.
Shu reinforcements appear:
Requirements:Time passes after the fire attack.
Side:Wu and Wei
Prevention:Stop the fire attack.
Effects:A Shu unit appears(Zhao Yun, Zhang Fei, or
Guan Yu depending on your character, side, and mode)
in the west and morale increases for it and Wu.
Wei reinforcements arrive:
Requirements:Time passes after the fire attack. This
may come before or after the Shu reinforcements depending
on your character.
Side:all
Prevention:Stop the fire attack.
Effects:An additional Wei unit arrives in the north and
Wei morale increases. The leader of the unit will vary
depending on your character, side, and mode. Possible
leaders for the unit are Xun Yu, Dian Wei, or Xiahou
Dun.
Cao Cao starts to retreat:
Requirements:The fire attack is successful.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Don't let the fire attack happen.
Effects:Cao Cao will move around. The only
effect this has on the battle is give the advantage
to Wu and Shu because Cao Cao will walk right into
the Shu reinforcements!
Assault on Cheng Du:
This is a strange place, am I lost?:
Requirements:Player enters the forest.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't enter the forest if you're on
Liu Zhang's side. You can't prevent it if you're
on Liu Bei's side because you start in the forest.
Effects:The music stops and you can't use your
tactical map any time you are in the forest. The
strategic map in the pause menu still works and the
music will play lowly when paused still.
Liu Zhang's ambush party appears:
Requirements:Unknown.
Side:Liu Bei
Prevention:Impossible, it happens too early to prevent.
Effects:Three ambushes appear simultaneously on three
different paths.
So this is Luo Feng Po:
Requirements:Pang Tong exits the forest.
Side:both
Prevention:Have Pang Tong die before he exits the forest.
Effects:Zhang Ren's ambush party will appear.
Pang Tong's unit has been surrounded:
Requirements:Zhang Ren's ambush party appears.
Side:Liu Bei.
Prevention:Defeat Zhang Ren before Pang Tong exits the forest.
Effects:Pang Tong is screwed. Even on easy he will die very
fast. That shouldn't be so if you are playing as him though.
Lords, I can go no further:
Requirements:Pang Tong is defeated.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep Pang Tong alive.
Effects:Morale increases for Liu Bei and Zhao Yun.
Liu Zhang's surrender:
Requirements:All other officers with troops of their own
on Liu Zhang's side are defeated(by you) and some time must
pass after all the officers are defeated.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Liu Bei or Liu Zhang before it happens.
Effects:Liu Bei wins.
The Battle at Tong Gate:
Ma Chao's unit advances:
Requirements:unknown
Side:both
Prevention:unknown
Effects:Ma Chao and his unit advance.
I shall avenge my father and brother:
Requirements:Ma Chao and Cao Cao meet

Effects:None, it's just a battle intro.
Cao Cao tempts Han Sui to surrender:
Requirements:
Allies:Cao Cao advances from the north.
Wei:Pang De, Ma Dai, and Cheng Yin are defeated.
Prevention:
Allies:Beat the stage fast.
Wei:Keep either Pang De or Ma Dai alive, or kill Han Sui.
Effects:Han Sui's morale drops.
Han Sui's actions cause problems:
Requirements:Han Sui and Cao Cao have their little talk.
Side:allies
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Morale of every allied unit drops.
Han Sui defects:
Requirements:Time passes after the talk between Han Sui and
Cao Cao and Han Sui is still alive.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage or have Han Sui get killed.
Effects:Han Sui switches to the Wei side and Wei morale rises.
Notes:Many people speculate that morale effects this event, but
it does not. If Cao Cao talks with Han Sui, he will always
defect.
The Battle at He Fei:
Zhang Liao prepares to lure Taishi Ci:
Requirements:Happens at the start of the stage.
Side:Wei
Prevention:Play Wu side instead.
Effects:Zhang Liao personally tries to lure Taishi Ci to his
death.
Taishi Ci assassinated:
Requirements:Taishi Ci moves between or north of the two houses
in the center of the stage and Zhang Liao is alive. Do note that
in certain characters' Musou Modes this event will not happen
because Taishi Ci doesn't die yet. You can also kill Taishi Ci
yourself and still get the event if the requirements have been
fulfilled and you're fast enough to kill him before the event.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Zhang Liao or Taishi Ci before it happens.
Effects:Taishi Ci and all his troops die instantly.
I'm off to the next battle:
Requirements:Taishi Ci assassinated, Cheng Pu defeated. Player
must be near Zhang Liao. There appears to be another
requirement but I'm certain defeating Cheng Pu is one of them.
Side:Wei
Prevention:Stay away from Zhang Liao or defeat Taishi Ci yourself.
Effects:Zhang Liao leaves the center and vanishes.
Zhang Liao's ambush:
Requirements:
Wei:Time passes after Zhang Liao leaves to the next
battle.
Wu:Time passes after the Wu commander successfully retreats
and Zhang Liao is alive.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Zhang Liao before the appropriate requirement
is fulfilled.
Effects:Zhang Liao and a good-sized unit appears around the Wu
commander's position. Wu morale will drop.
Cut through their front line:
Requirements:Zhang Liao is defeated after his ambush and player
is near the Wu commander before the Wu counterattack event.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Steer clear of the Wu commander.
Effects:Identical to the Wu counterattack event, except for the
addition of a short line for the player("yes!" "yes sir!"), and
the Wu commander seems to advance faster.
Wu's counterattack:
Requirements:
Wu:After Zhang Liao's ambush, Zhang Liao is defeated near the
Wu commander or it can happen immediately after Gan Ning's ambush.
Wei:Gan Ning's ambush happens.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage before either ambush happens.
Effects:Wu morale rises and the Wu commander advances.
Gan Ning's ambush:
Requirements:14 minutes elapsed.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage in under 14 minutes and don't let
Zhang Liao's ambush happen.
Effects:Gan Ning and his unit will appear. The music will
change to "Hurry Up!!" for Wei until Gan Ning is defeated.
Wu occupies Wei HQ:
Requirements:The Wu commander advances into Wei HQ.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep him away.
Effects:Wu wins.
The Wu army is struggling:
Requirements:Taishi Ci assassinated or another significant
Wu officer defeated with minimal damage done to Wei morale.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Go around killing significant Wei officers like
Xu Huang or Cao Hong before it's too late. If you've done good
enough Taishi Ci's assassination will not trigger the event.
May have a connection with the Wu commander's morale.
Effects:Wu morale drops.
The Wu commander is retreating:
Requirements:Wu army struggling.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Prevent the Wu army struggling event.
Effects:The Wu commander(Sun Jian, Sun Quan, or Sun Ce
depending on what mode and character you choose) begins to
retreat towards a dead end...Brilliant move!
The Wu commander successfully retreats:
Requirements:Player is nearby the Wu commander while he's
at the broken bridge. Contrary to popular belief you do not
need to be on a horse, if you are not on horseback when you
trigger the event a horse will be provided during the event
but not after(aw, what a rip!). The horse varies for different
characters, and whatever type of horse you are riding before
the event you will still be riding during and after.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Steer clear from your commander or prevent the
Wu army struggling event.
Effects:The Wu commander retreats a little bit south of the
broken bridge.
Wei reinforcements arrive:
Requirements:Time passes after Gan Ning's ambush.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't let Gan Ning's ambush happen.
Effects:Cheng Yu, Xun You, Yue Jin, and many troops will
appear and instantly be in Cao Cao's unit. Wei morale rises.
The Battle at Fan Castle:
We must fight Guan Yu!:
Requirements:Unavoidable.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Pick another side.
Effects:You just get to hear your character's opinion
on either fighting in Fan Castle or fighting Guan Yu.
Technically it's not an event, but some of the stuff
said is hilarious("I am to be my own opponent? This
will be difficult." -Guan Yu).
Xu Huang VS Guan Yu:
Requirements:Xu Huang and Guan Yu meet, or time
passes.
Side:all
Prevention:Kill one of them first.
Effects:If this event is triggered by Xu Huang and
Guan Yu meeting, it will replace the normal battle
intro.
The flood:
Requirements:Time passes(varies, but often at 3 minutes
elapsed) and no player or commander is on the lower level.
Side:all
Prevention:Stay on the lower level or prove your skills by
beating the stage in under 3 minutes.
Effects:All troops(including your bodyguards!) that are on
the lower level of the castle or not even all the way up a
set of stairs will instantly die! Pontoons appear along with
the flood and allow you to cross the water.
Wu reinforcements arrive:
Requirements:Time passes after the flood. Sometimes the
Wu reinforcements appear immediately, I haven't quite
figured out what determines this yet.
Side:all
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Lu Meng, Gan Ning, and Lu Xun join the battle
against Guan Yu. Morale for both Wei and Wu rises.
Sometimes Lu Meng is replaced with Sun Ce.
Shu reinforcements arrive:
Requirements:Lu Meng begins battle with Guan Yu.
Side:Wei or Wu
Prevention:Beat the stage before it happens.
Effects:Zhou Cang appears with some troops. Shu morale
rises.
The Battle at Mt. Ding Jun:

them before their troops begin fighting each other.
Effects:Huang Zhong's morale increases.
Huang Zhong rides downhill:
Requirements:
Shu:Huang Zhong advances.
Wei:unknown
Prevention:Defeat Huang Zhong before it happens.
Effects:Huang Zhong's morale rises.
Brother, I leave the rest to you:
Requirements:Xiahou Yuan is defeated.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Keep him alive.
Effects:It's just a special death scene.
Xiahou Yuan's unit rushes to engage the Shu army:
Requirements:unknown
Side:both
Prevention:unknown
Effects:unknown
Shu's downhill attack is successful:
Requirements:Huang Zhong riding event, Xiahou Yuan's
unit rushing event, and reach the bottom of the hill.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Leave out one of those things.
Effects:Shu morale rises.
Cao Cao's main force arrives:
Requirements:2 minutes elapsed.
Side:both
Prevention:If you're playing on Wei's side, beat the
stage in record time!
Effects:Xang Yiu's unit becomes Cao Cao's unit and
Wei morale rises.
The Battle at Yi Ling:
Zhuge Liang isn't here, but there can be no mercy:
Requirements:One minute, thirty seconds elapsed.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Lu Xun in record time.
Effects:Zhu Ran appears and prepares for the fire attack.
Zhu Ran's fire attack fails due to enemy interference:
Requirements:Too many of Zhu Ran's soldiers are
killed.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Carefully clear out enemies that are a
potential threat to Zhu Ran, particularly Zhang Bao
and Guan Xing.
Effects:The fire attack fails and Wu morale drops.
The fire attack:
Requirements:Zhuge Liang isn't here event, Lu Xun alive,
and Zhu Ran makes it to the Shu camp.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Zhu Ran or Lu Xun before Zhu Ran makes
it to the Shu camp.
Effects:The Shu camp is ignited and Shu morale drops.
If you're playing on the Shu side, Liu Bei will retreat
and the music will change to "Under Pressure".
A Wu raiding party appears:
Requirements:The Gate Captain From Hell in the west or
the gate captain south of Zhou Yu is defeated.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Leave those gate captains alone. Chances are
the one in the west will be able to keep himself alive
seeing as he's as powerful as an officer, and it's not
likely your allies will even meet the one in the south.
Each one makes a different raiding party appear at a
different place, but both can be triggered.
Effects:A raiding party appears. The raiding party
is no different from an ambush party oddly enough.
Zhuge Liang arrives:
Requirements:Time passes after the fire attack or Man An
Gate is opened.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't allow the fire attack or beat the
stage before he arrives without opening Man An Gate.
Effects:Zhuge Liang appears and Shu morale rises.
Music will change to "Tyrant".
Man An Gate opens:
Requirements:Yan Yan or Pang Tong is defeated.
Huang Zhong sometimes replaces Pang Tong.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't let either die.
Effects:Man An Gate opens and Shu reinforcements
appear.
Reinforcements arrive near Man An Gate:
Requirements:Man An Gate open.
Side:both
Prevention:Don't let Yan Yan or Pang Tong die.
Effects:An annoying number of archers appears
south of Man An Gate.
Liu Bei receives reports of the Shu army's success:
Requirements:The Wu army is decimated after the fire
attack and Zhuge Liang arrives.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Fire attack prevented or beat the stage
fast.
Effects:Liu Bei advances towards Wu HQ.
Have entered the Stone Warrior Formation:
Requirements:Player enters Stone Warrior Formation.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Stay away from it.
Effects:Same as the forest in Cheng Du-your tactical
map vanishes and the music stops for as long as you
are in it. Shu doesn't lose the tactical map.
Isn't this where we started?:
Requirements:Player enters middle east or middle south
part of the Stone Warrior formation.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Stay out.
Effects:None.
That was an impressive trap:
Requirements:Player arrives at both entrances to the
Stone Warrior Formation. Going through it is not
necessary.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Don't go near it.
Effects:"The Stone Warrior Formation has been
successfully traversed" message goes by. If you are
playing as Lu Xun you will always get the message for
his fourth weapon, but you can only get it on the hard
difficulty.
A Shu ambush party appears in the Stone Warrior Formation:
Requirements:Wu forces approach the Stone Warrior
Formation.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage before Wu forces near it.
Effects:Wu Lan and Lei Tong appear with plenty of troops
within the Stone Warrior Formation.
The Nanman Campaign:
Player VS Meng Huo:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated by the player
at any time before he appears at Nanman HQ.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Don't personally defeat Meng Huo before
he appears in Nanman HQ.
Effects:Makes it possible for Meng Huo to appear
in his next location. This happens each time you
defeat Meng Huo and is different each time.
Meng Huo appears in the southwest:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated the first time
and player nears his position.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Meng Huo and a sizable force appears in
the west. Zhang Fei or Gan Ning will be in great
danger because he will be outnumbered.
Meng Huo appears in the far east:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated in the southwest
and player approaches the east.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Meng Huo appears on horseback with his
sizable force and greatly threatens Ma Chao or
Lu Meng. If I were you, I would take the time to
defeat both Meng Huo and King Duosi because
Ma Chao and Lu Meng just love bathing in those
poison pits...Leaving them so weak that any attack
can kill them!
Meng Huo appears in the west:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated in the far east
and player approaches the west.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Meng Huo appears on horseback again near
Shu/Wu HQ with the usual large force.
Meng Huo appears in the south:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated in the west.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Meng Huo appears on an elephant in the
south of the left middle of the map. He starts out
behind a wall, so you'll need to either find an
elephant or another way around to get to him.
Zhu Rong gets mad:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated in the south.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Zhu Rong's morale rises.
Meng Huo appears in the east:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated in the south.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ.
Effects:Meng Huo appears on foot with his troops
near Shu/Wu HQ.
Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ:
Requirements:Meng Huo is defeated six times or
player advances far south.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Meng Huo appears in his final position,
finally! He's also on an elephant and surrounded
by the Nanman Elite and archers...The message
displayed is not always the same. If you personally
defeated Meng Huo every other time, you'll get the
same message. If you didn't personally defeat him in
any of the encounters with him, the message will read
"Meng Huo has appeared near our HQ!"
Meng Huo surrenders:
Requirements:Meng Huo defeated all seven times.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Don't personally defeat him seven
times.
Effects:Shu/Wu wins and the text in the ending
for what your character did in the Nanman Campaign
changes to say that you captured and freed Meng Huo
seven times so he surrendered instead of being
killed. Additionally, this unlocks Meng Huo and
lets you play on the Nanman side in Free Mode.
Zhuge Liang's/Lu Xun's unit advances:
Requirements:Meng Huo appears at Nanman HQ and
the Shu/Wu army has been very successful.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Make Meng Huo appear at Nanman HQ early
on or let your army do badly.
Effects:Shu/Wu morale will rise and all remaining
forces will advance towards Nanman HQ.
What are these monsters?!?:
Requirements:Player meets an elephant or time
passes.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Shu/Wu morale drops.
Our arrows have no effect!:
Requirements:Player meets any of the Nanman Elite
or time passes.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Impossible.
Effects:Shu/Wu morale drops.
Note:Contrary to popular belief, the Nanman Elite
are just as vulnerable to arrows as any other
soldiers.
Poison:
Requirements:Players advances south along the
most eastern path.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Keep further west.
Effects:Shu/Wu morale drops. There are four poison
pits all along the east. If you enter them the screen
blurs and your character slowly takes damage. The
poison itself can't kill you or any other officer,
but nameless troops are vulnerable. These are very
annoying because Ma Chao or Lu Meng have a bad habit
of sitting in one of these and charging for King
Duosi with no life left.
Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne retreat:
Requirements:15 minutes elapsed.
Side:Nanman
Prevention:Beat the stage fast.
Effects:Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne retreat.
King Duosi's raiding party appears:
Requirements:Wu Tugu's morale drops or Wu Tugu
is defeated.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Don't bother Wu Tugu.
Effects:A noteworthy amount of troops appear
near the Shu/Wu base and may threaten your
commander if left unattended to.
Wu Tugu's raiding party appears:
Requirements:King Duosi's morale drops or
King Duosi is defeated.
Side:Shu or Wu
Prevention:Don't bother King Duosi.
Effects:Same case as King Duosi's just on the
west instead.
I didn't know the Nanman were this stubborn:
Requirements:30 minutes elapsed and Zhuge Liang's
morale is decent.
Side:Nanman
Prevention:Beat the stage fast or butcher
his morale.
Effects:Shu morale rises.
Zhuge Liang retreats:
Requirements:30 minutes elapsed, Zhuge Liang has
no morale, and all other Shu officers defeated.
Side:Nanman
Prevention:Beat the stage fast or keep Zhuge
Liang's morale up.
Effects:Nanman forces win.
Note:The requirements I've listed could be more
than what is necessary, but in any case I have
only been able to trigger the event with the
requirements listed.
The Battle of Jie Ting:
Zhao Yun's unit arrives:
Requirements:
Wei:The Shu supply depot is destroyed.
Shu:unknown
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage first or play as
Zhao Yun.
Effects:Zhao Yun's unit arrives in the southeast
and Shu morale rises.
Ma Su moves without orders:
Requirements:Unknown, but how successful Shu
is early on seems to affect it.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Butcher Wei morale.
Effects:Goodbye Ma Su.
That Shu officer is so stupid:
Requirements:Ma Su reaches the summit.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Butcher Wei or defeat Zhang He.
Effects:Ma Su surrounded.
Attack them beautifully:
Requirements:Zhang He advances.
Side:both
Prevention:Defeat Zhang He first.
Effects:Wei forces advance.
Ma Su surrounded:
Requirements:That Shu officer is so stupid
event.
Side:Shu
Prevention:Defeat Zhang He first.
Effects:Ma Su's morale drops.
The Battle at You Ting:
The west fortress falls:
Requirements:Zhang Pu is defeated.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep Zhang Pu alive for 10 minutes.
Effects:Nothing special by itself. If the east
fortress also falls, Zhou Fang will switch sides.
The east fortress falls:
Requirements:Zhang He/Dian Wei is defeated.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep the guy alive 10 minutes.
Effects:Nothing special by itself. If the west
fortress also falls Zhou Fang will switch sides.
Sima Yi discovers Zhou Fang's infiltration:
Requirements:10 minutes elapsed.
Side:both
Prevention:Both fortresses fall, Zhou Fang
is defeated, or the stage is beaten before
10 minutes pass.
Effects:Zhou Fang returns to the Wu side
and Wu morale drops. Player's character
also has a unique quote here if on Wei's
side.
Cao Xiu surrounded:
Requirements:Both fortresses fall before
10 minutes elapse.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Let 10 minutes elapse without
at least one of the fortresses falling or
defeat Cao Xiu.
Effects:Zhou Fang returns to the Wu side
and Wu morale rises. Player has a quote here.
Jia Kui reinforces Cao Xiu:
Requirements:
Wu:Man Chong or Cao Xiu is defeated.
Wei:Zhou Fang's infiltration is discovered.
Side:both
Prevention:Keep Man Chong and Cao Xiu alive
for Wu or beat the stage fast for Wei.
Effects:Jia Kui and some troops appear. If
Cao Xiu's defeat is what causes Jia Kui to
appear, he'll immediately retreat because he
is one of Cao Xiu's subordinates.
The Siege of He Fei Castle:
Man Chong and Cao Rui appear:
Requirements:9 minutes elapsed, all gates opened
event, or player(Wu side) advances beyond the castle
courtyard.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage fast without
opening any gates if you're on Wei.
Effects:The large forces of Man Chong and
Cao Rui appear. The entry point in the southeast
becomes active and Wei morale rises.
Wall of Arrows trap:
Requirements:Player enters Wall of Arrows.
Side:both
Prevention:Stay away from it.
Effects:The corridor known as the Wall of
Arrows randomly fires arrows that damage
your side only. Fortunately the damage
the arrows in the trap do is fixed at a
low amount so a higher difficulty doesn't
turn your character into swiss cheese ^_^
Also, the arrows damage any troops dumb enough
to get in the way.
Wind Corridor trap:
Requirements:Player enters Wind Corridor.
Side:both
Prevention:Stay away form it.
Effects:Tornadoes appear in fixed positions
inside the Wind Corridor and do not move.
These tornadoes do a moderate amount of damage
and throw damaged troops high into the air.
The AI is good at avoiding the tornadoes, but
the tornadoes still damage any troops that
touch them.
You'll have to beat Gan Ning to pass!:
Requirements:Player meets Gan Ning on
the bridge in the east part of the castle.
If you want to see this event, I recommend
approaching the bridge from the north at
the start of the stage so you don't meet
Gan Ning before it. He starts on a horse
at the southern edge of the bridge, so you
may want to use your arrows to knock him
off the horse and use your bodyguards to
lure him onto the bridge.
Side:Wei
Prevention:Meet Gan Ning somewhere else
or stay away from him entirely.
Effects:Just a special battle intro.
If you think you can pass, try it!:
Requirements:Player meets Xu Zhu on the
bridge in the east part of the castle.
If you want to see this event, don't worry.
So long as neither side is being utterly
annihilated, Xu Zhu will stay in place at
the north tip of the bridge. Approach him
from the south at any time and he'll
advance onto the bridge.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Meet Xu Zhu off the bridge or
stay away from him.
Effects:Just a special battle intro.
Wei ambush in the south:
Requirements:Wu forces advance into
the south portion of the castle, or
player goes there.
Side:Wu
Prevention:Beat the stage FAST.
Effects:A nice-sized ambush party
appears. Fortunately there are no
archers in it.
Archer HELL:
Requirements:Player steps onto the
bridge in the center of the castle.
Side:both
Prevention:Steer clear of the center.
Effects:A HUGE number of archers
appear all around the center of the
castle. This is by far the most
feared and hated event in the game.
If you're on Wu's side and doing
very good though, the archers will
be killed by your allies
surprisingly quickly.
Lu Xun's fire attack:
Requirements:Player enters the southern
part of the castle.
Side:Wei
Prevention:Steer clear of the south
part of the castle until well after
Lu Xun is defeated.
Effects:The south part of the castle
will be engulfed in flames, Wei morale
drops, and the two Wei officers north of
the center will move to near the east and
west gates.
The main south gate falls:
Requirements:
Wei:Player meets Lu Xun or Lu Meng
or time passes.
Wu:Wu army clears all gates event.
Side:both
Prevention:Beat the stage fast or
avoid Lu Xun+Lu Meng.
Effects:The main south gate opens.
Tactically speaking, Wu gains the
advantage.
