"Namco's 4th installment of the Tekken series. Superb."
Many people are truly underestimating Tekken 4. This game is as good as the others with brilliant graphics, sound, characters and of course gameplay.
Tekken 4 really is breathtaking. The game takes place 20 years after the thrid Iron Fist Tournament. We are greeted by characters such as old time veterans like Marshall Law, Paul Pheonix and Yoshimitsu. The first thing you notice in Tekken 4 is the detail of the graphics and characters. It still uses the old style of the Tekken series, with multiple combos for all characters and a huge selection of single moves.
The graphics are truly amazing. The detail is perfect and the motion is great too. Many PS2 owners know that the frame rate on PS2 is not brilliant, however this game plays like the Dead or Alive series and the background effects are great. This time you cand damage scenery in the levels and pound your opponent against walls. After witnessing the poor endings on Tekken Tag Tournament, this time Tekken 4 uses FMV's like the third game, when you complete 'Story Mode' with a character. That means theres 20+ FMV's to see.
The sound effects are much like the previous Tekken's. Not only good music but theres speech in the game and English speech in the characters ending FMV's. The music is more heavy metal but it gives the game a nice effect.
The gameplay is like the previous Tekken games: excellent. Many people are saying its completely different, however this is wrong, its just as good and the same style. You hardly get tired of playing and its great experiencing all the other characters moves. Tekken Force is also fun to play as you can fight with more than one opponent on screen.
The game should last you a long time. Theres loads of moves, characters and combos to master. With a wide selection of levels too. You will want to be a perfectionist with some of the more challenging fighters and want to see what each one has to offer.
Tekken 4 offers some class secrets. Such as Tekken Force, this time remade and much more challenging/fun. Theres over 20 characters to select either new or old all with new/completely different moves. Plus yet again Theatre Mode to see all the characters stories and final FMV's. Plus theres a free Video DVD for Sony's games too. What more could you ask for?
Overall Tekken 4 should definitely be considered. I don't recommend renting it I say go ahead and buy it for it is a classic game and if you liked Tekken 3 then this game is a must. It still has the overall feel of Tekken and really does live up to the expectations.
