Review by M. Fletcher
"The best FPS currently available."
Red Faction was one of the most popular FPS ever to be on any console. Its long awaited sequel, Red Faction 2 is a moderate disappointment. Its still an improvement but certain points must be made which deteriorate the score.
The graphics are nothing special. They look nicer than Medal of Honors though, and I'm quite surprised by the improvement that has been made in this area from the first game. The scenery is nicely done, as are the guns.
There are new weapons, and some featuring from the original. I think they are a total of 13 or 14 weapons you can use. The gameplay can be similar to the Metal Gear Solid series at points such as clambering aimlessly about, unsure of which way you are supposed to go. The AI is pretty good as well, so there are no complaints that can be made here.
Awkward at times, but it is customisable, so there isn't really a major problem here.
The gunshots are nice, and the voice acting is well done. I quite like the sound in this actually. It is much better than Medal of Honor, which had awful background music and the odd shout in German.
There are 4 games you can play in Multiplayer, another one of them is hidden. The only ones I can remember at time of writing are Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and The Arena. Deathmatch you shoot anything that moves. Capture the flag is where you, well, capture your opponents flag, and The Arena is where you get a single live and run around like a nancy boy avoiding fire until you can kill the last person and be victorious.
FPS are limited, but the Multiplayer will keep you busy for a while. I'd say 3 or 4 weeks, tops.
Could have been so much better. The first Red Faction was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but this is a bit of disappointment. It is still much better than Medal of Honor and Timesplitters 2.
If you like FPS, this would be the best one to get. Timesplitters 2 is overrated and overhyped and not worth the money, Medal of Honor gets very old, very quick and Deus Ex is good but not as good as this. A worthy buy for anyone into First Person Shooters. Even if you don't like FPS, you should still at least rent this.
