Review by Uranium Fox

"Poor execution leaves naughty in abundance but fun in short supply..."

Some games sound great on paper but don't translate well into what the ambition wanted. This is an example of one of those games.

Graphics - 5
The graphical bar had been set with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and BMX XXX didn't even come close to it. I see no reason why BMX XXX couldn't have been realized on the PSOne. They are mediocre at best with many graphical problem in levels that just make everything feel so ugly to look at.

Fun Factor - 4
Most of the goals in this game could be done in half the time they give you to complete it, others require as much as three times what is given. This minor nuance is enough to drive me crazy. Adding to this fact is that most of the goals give you no direction as to what to do, such an example is in the first level when somebody tells you to "Ghost Ride your bike into the fruit booter" which they thankfully explain how to ghost ride but somehow skip telling you what a fruit booter is. It took me over an hour of riding into things trying to find a fruit booter. A problem that could easily have been solved with the inclusion of a quick camera pan and or extra sentence of explanation. The collision detection is also a severe needle to the eye, many times I have been sent heel over head by a so called "akward landing" where all I did was land down the quarter pipe perfectly, interesting...

Sound - 3
I gave sound a three because while the soundtrack is quite nice there are only 12 or so tracks and after an hour or two you feel like dropping the volume on your TV and playing your favorite CD. The only other thing that drags it down is the sound bites the NPC's have. They usually have 2 or 3 but after your hear them enough you'll wish you were deaf.

Control - 7
The control is very nicely done. It's a nice combination of Aggressive Inline, Dave Mirra 2, and Tony Hawk. It feels very at home for people who have played any one of those games. My personal complaint is that the controls are too sensitive. There isn't even an option to change this, something that only adds to hinder the experience.

Overall - 3
While the shine of this game may have come in another release from this company (Aggressive Inline) it doesn't live up to the many other games that came before it. If you like you BMX with some T&A then you may enjoy it more. I however found the humor to be a little childish and low brow. While the game does have serious flaws it still is very enjoyable if you can overlook the many times you will fall through the game's boundaries and fly through the colorful air of nothingness until you bail and comeback up above ground.

If you ask if it's a rent or buy, I must say rent. Not many would disagree with me, I'm sure.
