really is. Also, if it didn't say the HP, I didn't include it, since I
would have to figure out how to get it, and since I'm at the beginning
of the game, that would be hard. (Don't be scared, I had a different
game, but I deleted it.)

Here are some great cars to work with at the beginning!

I don't gave GT3, so I didn't use the 100,000 credit bonus.

All cars won from license tests
Cadillac Cien (Win in Easy Umbria rally)
'00 Camaro (or whatever the year is, but just know it's the newest one)
Any newer Skyline GT-R (there are so many I won't bother to name 'em)
Corvette C5 (not the race car)
Lotus Elise (any one except maybe the '99 motor sport, 70,000 G's)
A lot of Jap cars (if you need specifics, e-mail me)
HPA Motorsports Golf II R32

What's this?
-=-=-=-=-=-=

Here are some definitions you may hear, but not understand.

Group C race car- An extremely fast prototype racer.

Prototype- A car with only one model ever made. Also called concept car.

HP- Horsepower.

Horsepower- Measures the cars power.
EX. If a car has 100 horsepower, then it has the power of 100 horses in one
engine.

Torque- A measurement in LB-FT that tells you how much weight a car can pull.

Downforce- The force that keeps the car on the ground, not flying in the
air.

Nitrous- The most abundant gas in the universe, creates a propelling
explosion when mixed with Petrol and combusted.

Petrol- Something in the engine, I'm not sure exactly what.

What for what
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Look here for what you'll expect for what money.

(NOTE: There are exceptions to these.)

Below 5,000- Mostly used cars. Very low horsepower in most. Don't buy
because of weak power, bad quality, ect.

5,001-9,999- Again, mainly used cars. A little more powerful than the
5,000$ cars, but still pretty weak. Try not to buy because of bad
quality.

10,000-19,999- You can buy new cars for this much, but don't expect
anything incredible. Acceptable buy only because of the weakness.
Good if you're short on cash.

20,000-29,999- More powerful, but still, most is about 350 HP. Decent
buy because of the lower power.

30,000- 39,999- A mixture. Some cars below 20HP, some cars above 300HP.
Nice buy, mostly higher powered cars.

40,000-49,999- Like 30,000 cars, a mixture, but more powerful than the
30,000 cars. Nice buy because of bang for buck deals.

50,000-99,999- You'll find some cars above 400HP for this, but this is
the best bang-for-buck deal range. Great buy, cheap power for not too
much $$$.

100,000-499,999- A lot of rally cars, also many supercars with 500+ HP.
Decent buy, lower price for decent cars.

500,000-999,999- Not many cars in this range to talk about. Uhhh....
Decent buy? Powerful cars for some high $$$.

More than 1,000,000- Only group C racers in this group, maybe some
rally cars. Not so good buy because of immense money.

Buying a Car
-=-=-=-=-=-=

Here, you can learn about buying a car.

It's obvious how to buy a new car, milage stats are the same, but the
used cars are what we'll talk about. Now, there are many fantasies with
the used car world. The main thing you need to remember is that you
need to give the car an oil change, for a few extra HP. There are two
special things about this car world that are wild. The first is the 10
KM car. This means it has very little milage, giving it great stats, but
it still has the price of a used car. The other fantasy is that from
days 694-700, you can buy sleek black race cars. This is true, but they
still cost about 1.3-3 Million, so save up.
---
Attributes
-=-=-=-=-=

Here, we will discuss the different attributes of a car.

Now, when buying a car, you have to think of many things. This is an
average stats chart for a car...

Engine
Type- V8, V6, I4, LH1, etc.
Displacement- How big the engine is in cubic centimeters.
Power- How powerful the car is, measured in horsepower.
Torque- How much weight a car can pull, measured in Pound-Feet.
Dimensions
Length- How long the car is, measured in millimeters.
Width- How wide the car is, measured in millimeters.
Weight- How heavy the car is, measured in Kilograms.
Chassis
Drivetrain
Cost

We Will talk about each one.

ENGINE TYPE is the type of engine used. Examples are V8s, I4s, ect.

DISPLACEMENT is how big the engine is.

POWER is a general measuring in BHP of how fast a car can go.

TORQUE is a term used to describe how much weight a car can pull. More
torque means more weight a car can pull.

LENGTH is how long a car is, measured in millimeters.

WIDTH is how wide a car is, measured in millimeters.

WEIGHT is how heavy a car is, this determines tire life, acceleration
speeds, braking distances, and handling capabilities.

DRIVETRAIN is just a map telling you where the engine is and what
wheels propel the car. For example, an FF car has an engine located
in the front, and the front two wheels drive the car.

COST is how much money you have to give up in order to own a car.

"Special" Cars
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Yes, in every game there is something special. Here, it's cars. You can not
race these cars against other people. Here is the list I have so far.

Special cars are...

Nike One 2022
Caterham Fire Blade
Auto Union V16 Type Streamline (500,000$?)
Mercedes Benz Benz Patent Motor Wagen
Mercedes Benz Daimler Motor Carriage
Ford Model T
Chrysler Prowler
Toyota Motor Triathelon Race Car
Jay Leno Tank Car

Do not buy those cars.
---
Polyphony Formula Gran Turismo
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This is probably the best car in the game, so I will give you the basic stats.

Race won from: Nurburgring 24 Hour Endurance
Also won from: 100% game completion
Horsepower- 903
Weight- 550kg
Drivetrain- MR
Torque- Unknown
Selling Value- 1.6 Million

Good car, eh? Another reason I gave you the stats is that it's VERY hard to
get.
---
The General Overview
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This is the general overview of what you have learned about cars. Now, as you
move up the ladder in Gran Turismo 4, you can participate in bigger races and
tournaments, resulting in bigger bux. Somethines, cheaper cars are actually
better than their more expensive counterparts. An example of this is that the
Mercedes SL55AMG is a lot easier to control than the SLR Mclaren, and costs
about 430,000$ less. And, also, always check the stats of a car to make sure
that it's what you need for a race, or if it meets the race expectations. My
personal advice is if they list cars, buy the cheapest one, enter the race
without tuning the car, and see what the dominant car is. Then buy that car.
If you need any help with definitions, E-mail me at theemikester@aol.com. I
know, there are a lot of words that can confuse you. If you need any help,
send me an E-mail and I will explain it the best way I can.

What Now?
Use this as a guide for tuning. If you do, you may find that, if you
run out of money, your tuning setup won't be so bad!

Do these in order from top to bottom...

Weight reductions- Helps every aspect of your car, really.
Tires- Help keep yoou from burning out, losing control, or sliding.
Brakes- As they say, Car-Brakes=Brick Wall...
Suspension- Also helps stop the car from leaning and losing control.
*Turbo, NA, or Supercharger- This will help you get good 0-60 times.
Drivetrain- Helps put all of that power to the tires.
Other Engine upgrades- Also help max out power.
Exhaust- Make sure you have a lot of torque, this takes that away.
Controllers, Increase rigidy, ect.- Doesn't do much in races...

* If you do this, you must do Drivetrain. If it's one or the other,
don't do either.

What to Buy and What to Stay Away From
Look here to see what is a good buy and what is just a ripoff!

Good

Supercharger- 13 grand for 100-300 HP? YAAAY!!!!!
Racing flywheel- 1,000$ Acceleration upgrade. Not bad.
Nitro- Available only in A-spec, a secret power source for 5,000$.
Racing chip- 1,200$ for 5-50 HP isn't bad...
Weight reduction step 1- YOu kan kill 100-300 lbs for 1,200$...
Super-hard racing tires- 8,000$ For endurance and decent grip is good.
Racing intercooler- 3,000$ for 10-60HP? Nice!
Racing brakes- Use the equation Car+Brakes=Control, and throw in 5,000$...

Bad

Increase rigidy- Good cause for understeer for 30,000$...
Hard sports tires- Bad grip for 3,000$?
Racing exhaust- Takes away huge amounts of torque for 4,500$.
Body refresher plan- Does the same thing as increase rigity for 50,000$...

Tires

These are so important, I made a section about them. (Paracropolis gave me the

The General Overview
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Now, there is a lot to say about tuning. It can get very confusing. If you
don't like something, you can always switch it at the garage by hitting
start as soon as you get in. You can also hit default if you don't like the
way you set up a certain part. Now, for the tuning guide thing, you don't
have to do what I say. You can always go for the racing chip, then the weight
reduction, ect. Just remember, tuning is the true way you can adjust your car
into your true customized beast. If you need any help, E-mail me at
TheeMikester@aol.com.

Extra explanation from WhItE LyOn 40...

You said in the tuning section that most of the drivetrain parts you dont
understand, so im here to help :D. Drivetrain parts such as the flywheel and the
Transmission help with acceleration, you need the best possible flywheel and
transmission because they make you go faster, faster. When you get the full
customizable tranny you can alter the gear ratios allowing you to determine if
your car is going to accelerate really fast and not be able to max out as high,
or accelerate slowly and have a high top speed, or somewhere in between. The
limited slips are for cornering, they come into play when you are trying to be
able to come out of corners faster and go in later, its difficult to explain but
trust me when i say get them lol. All of the items in drivetrain help
acceleration and cornering. And im not 100% on this, but i believe the AYC
controller helps with cornering as well. hope this clears some things up!

-The higher the license requirement for the race, the more you get if
you win.

-You win a car for finishing with a minimum medal of bronze, silver,
and gold.

Tips
-=-=

Here are a few tips for license tests.

-In all of the tests required to get licenses B and A, if you click R3,
you can get a dotted line, telling you what to do it and when.

-License test prize cars can only be won ONCE.

-Get all golds in all of the tests in a license except for one, leave
that bronze. Upgrade the bronze to silver, then the silver to gold.
This will get you 3 cars per license.

-Use curbing to the max. Remember, curbing is driver's best friend.

B License
+---------+

<TEST ONE>

Acceleration/Braking: 1
Mazda DEMIO (J) '99

The car you will use is crap. Anyway, if you stretch the first gear until it
reaches 25-26 MPH, and you start braking at 42 MPH, you can gold this test.
---
<TEST TWO>

Acceleration/Braking: 2
Mitsubishi 3000GT  VR-4 Turbo (J) '95

Again, stretch your gears out, and brake at about 73 MPH, you will WINZORZ!!11!
---
<TEST THREE>

Basics of Cornering: 1
Honds CR-X del Sol SiR '92

Stretch your gears out, and go into the turn and brake when you reach 88 MPH.
Take part of the turn, and put on full acceleration when you brake down to
44. Then, blaze the road to the finish.
---
<TEST FOUR>

Basics of Cornering: 2
Nissan SILVIA Q's AERO (S14) '96

Stretch the gears and brake at 85 MPH when going into the turn. Go without
throttle until you reach 55 MPH, then floor it to the finish.
---
<TEST FIVE>

One Lap Guide Run: Tsukuba
Mini ONE '02

This has to be the slowest car I have ever seen. Anyway, My one main tip is to
ALWAYS slipstream the pace car. Take the first turn at 45, braking very late,
with full throttle. Floor it through the esses, and brake hard when you are
about to hit the pace car, and take the turn with throttle, at the same speed
the pace car is going. Floor it through Dunlop, and take the Hairpin turn
braking and following the pace car. Exit speed is very important here! Take the
last wide turn at about 70, letting go of the throttle whenever necessary.
Floor it to the finish.
---
<TEST SIX>

Acceleration and Braking: 3
Renault Megane 2.0 16V '03

Don't stretch gears, and brake your hardest when you hit 85 MPH.
---
<TEST SEVEN>

Acceleration and Braking: 4
Dodge Viper GTS '99

Accelerate without stretching gears and brake at 141 MPH.
---
<TEST EIGHT>

Basics of Cornering: 3
Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited (NA, J) '91

Okay, once you hit about 75 MPH, turn in and start braking until you get to
34 MPH. Go through the turn flooring it and finish this test.
---
<TEST NINE>

Basics of Cornering: 4
BMW M3 CSL '03

When you hit 91, brake hard and go into the turn. Let go at about 42 and just
drift until you hit 39, and gradually get back on the throttle and floor to
the finish.
---
<TEST TEN>

1 Lap Guide Run (Laguna Seca)
Citroen C3 1.6 '02

Accelerate to the first hairpin. Brake between the 2 and the 1 signs on the
right of the road to about 40, and take the turn. For the next one, brake to
55 and nip the inside corner. Otherwise, you won't make the turn. For this next
turn, take this at about 65 also nipping the corner. For this next turn, take
it at about 55MPH. Take the next one at 60 MPH and really go into the inside
corner of the turn. For the chicane, brake at the 1 sign on the right and take
the inside corner, and cut through the inside corner of the other chicane. For
the next turn, stay off of the throttle, braking slightly if you find yourself
going off the track. Take the next turn at 58 MPH. Finish the last turn at 28
MPH.
---
<TEST ELEVEN>

Basics of Dirt Driving: 1
Toyota CELICA 2000GT-FOUR (ST165) '86

Blast through the first turn all out. Then, brake to 25 and slide throug the
turn and go to the finish line.
---
<TEST TWELVE>

Basics of Dirt Driving: 2
Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 '85

Okay, take the first turn all out. Then, for the next turn, start turning
and then brake a little bit. Make sure you use the out in out method. Slide
through the turn to the finish line.
---
<TEST THIRTEEN>

Basics of Cornering: 5
Fiat Barchetta Giocane Due '00

When you get to the turn, brake to about 63 and take the turn, and blast to
the finish.
---
<TEST FOURTEEN>

Basics of Cornering: 6
Infiniti G35 COUPE '03

To take this turn, brake to 63 and take the turn with about 3/4 throttle.
Lighten up if you find yourself heading toward the curb. Blast to the finish.
---
<TEST FIFTEEN>

One Lap Guide Run (Infineon Raceway)
Chrysler PT-Cruiser '00

Take the little 90 degree turn at about 51 MPH. Don't brake too hard for the
next turn; take it at about 67 MPH. Take the sister turn at about 60 MPH. The
next turn is not a turn to be underestimated; take it at about 43 MPH. For the
next wide hairpin, I would advise a steady 62 MPH. Take the sharper hairpin
at 40 MPH, making use of the wide road. For the esses, just get on and off the
throttle. When you reach a corner with a Dodge barrier, take that turn at a
speed of 78 MPH. For the final hairpin, take it at about 32, and floor it to
the finish.
---
<GRADUATION TEST>

BMW 120d '04

JUST FINISH THE TEST DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!

Err...

I would advise no throttle for the first turn and take it at 60 MPH. For the
hairpin, take that at 32 MPH with no throttle. You just finished the B-class
license.

<TEST ONE>

Complex Corners: Beginner 1
Mitsubishi FTO GPX '94

Go to the left size of the course immediately. Brake when the red curbing
on the left side ends and hold your throttle at 63 throughout the turn. Do
the same for the next turn. Floor to the finish.
---
<TEST TWO>

Complex Corners: Beginner 2
Lotus Elise 111R '04

We got a nice car here. Take the Lotus to the left side and brake at the end
of the red curbing like last time. Brake until you reach 73 MPH and take the
turn with 3/4 throttle. Do the same for the next turn, and floor it to the
finish.
---
<TEST THREE>

Tackling High Speed Corners: 1
Mitsubishi ECLIPSE Spyder GTS '03

Floor it through the first turn. For the next turn, brake at the beginning of
the curbing until you reach 80, and then lose the throttle and take the turn
using the out in out method. Floor it to the finish.
---
<TEST FOUR>

Tackling High Speed Corners: 2
Subaru LEGACY B4 3.0R '03

--------------------
3 Lap Battle
--------------------
---
11.) Three Lap Battle: New York

You will be driving a Toyota 2000GT for this match. The handling on this car
is pretty bad. Brake very early for turns, and take them at a wide angle. Now,
at the first turn, brake to about forty and let go of the throttle. You can
basically floor it through the round-a-bout (letting go of the throttle if
necessary) and the next left hander. Take the next right angle turn at about
40 without throttle. Follow the same pattern for the next three right angle
turns. Brake to about fifty and take this next right hander without throttle.
Lather, rinse, repeat for next two right angle turns. You have to brake
hardcore for this next turn. Take the whole thing at 31MPH. Floor it to the
finish. Lather, rinse, repeat for the next three laps.
---
12.) Three Lap Battle: Lagunda Seca

We get a special version Ford GT. It has INCREDIBLE brakes, and it still has
Lift Throttle Oversteer, but can still turn with brakes. Take the first hairpin
at about a 60MPH average. For the next four turns, brake a little, and let
Lift Throttle Oversteer take over the rest. For the Corkscrew, brake until
about 50MPH, and use Lift Throttle Oversteer take over that chicane. For the
next two turns, use Lift Throttle Oversteer with braking. Take the next turn
with LTO, but go slow, as it is a narrow road. Repeat for two more laps.
---
13.) Three Lap Battle: Opera Paris

We get to drive a Peugeot Rally car here. take the first turn at about 65, no
throttle. Repeat for next turn. Slide through the next turn at about 55. Take
the next turn at about 50-55 MPH. Brake to about 63 MPH for the first turn, and
then slide through the next three turns, throttle or no throttle. Brake to 63,
take that turn, then quickly brake down to forty. Take that turn, then slide
through the hairpin. Slide through the next turn at about 50 MPH. Do not brake
for the next left turn; Just slide and make sure the back of your car hits the
wall. For the next 5 turns, go 40 MPH, 40 MPH, 50 MPH, 50 MPH, and 55 through
the roundabout turn. Repeat for two more laps.
---
14.) Three Lap Battle: Seattle

We get a hot little muscle car; The Superbird. This mission is a little
difficult, but you can do it. Brake early for the first turn (until about 60)
and execute without throttle. Brake to about 60 and take for the next turn.
Floor it through the next turn. Brake early for this turn, because the brakes
combined with the overall air time you get on the jumps equals bad braking.
Brake to aboiut 50 and take the turn without throttle. Floor it until you see
a 90 degree turn. You can take this one at 50 WITH throttle. Take the next one
at 50 without throttle. Continue until you reach a sharp turn, where you should
take this at 35 MPH without throttle. After that you will be going on a long
straight. After you get off the slope is a good point to start braking. Take
it and the next few turns without throttle. Once you reach a sharp turn, take
it at about 40 MPH without throttle. Try to just slide through the upcoming
chicane. Repeat for two more laps.
---
15.) Three Lap Battle: Cote D' Azur

You will be using a Lancia Stratos. It has Lift Throttle Oversteer, so we can
win this mission easily. Brake to about 60 and let LTO take care of the rest.
When you reach a roundabout turn, you can just wallride the side. Take the next
turn with LTO. Watch out, this is a prime spinout spot. Take the next turn at
50 with LTO. The hairpin will be shot down if you start it at 40 and use LTO.
Slide through the next few turns. Feel the wind on this straight! YE-Crash.
Watch out for this chicane. Stay to the outside and take it with LTO. The next
turn you can take at 50 with throttle. Just slide through the next four turns
using LTO and no braking. Brake to about forty for the next two turns and use
LTO. Passd the finish line and repeat for two more laps.
---
16.) Three Lap Battle: Suzuka

You will be driving a Beetle. Everyone else will be driving a Beetle. Got it?
Good. Take the first turn at 90, and finish it off at 65. Get on and off the
throttle for the esses. Take the next turn at about 80 MPH. Take down Degner
at avout 55. Take the next hairpin at about forty. Take Spoon at about 67.
Floor it through the next turn, as there is another road beside it. Cut through
the chicane, and finish the lap. Repeat twice.
---
17.) Three Lap Battle: Infineon

You will be driving an Audi R8. This is the funnest mission ever. Okay, take
the first turn at 60 MPH. Just let go of the throttle for the next turn, and
brake to sixty for the sister turn. Take the next turn at 60 MPH. Brake to
about 90 MPH for the U turn, and take it on and off the throttle. Brake to
45 for the Hairpin, making use of it's wide road. Get on and off the
brakes/throttle for the esses, and take the last hairpin at 60 MPH. Repeat
again and again.
---
18.) Three Lap Battle: Sarthe II

haha, we get a Nissan R92CP. Get ready to PWN. Once you come to the chicane
with the sand around it, cut through the sand. Take the next turn at 165 MPH.
Take the turn after that at 105 MPH. Cut the inside of the next corner at
100 MPH, and go down the Huanaderwhatever straight. The next corner comes VERY
fast. Brake at the curbing, and take the turn at 60 MPH. Floor it down ANOTHER
straight, and take the corner at the end at 70 MPH. Take the next corner at
50 MPH. After another straight, take the esses at 130, 120, 125, 155, and 110.
Cut through the chicanes and finish the lap. Repeat twice.
---
19.) Three Lap Battle: Suzuka East

Erm, you will be using the Amuse S2000. This will be a short walkthrough, as
the course is very small. Brake down to about 80 MPH and slide through the
turn, and then take the other part of the turn at 50 MPH. Get on and off the
throttle through the esses, and take the last turn at 50 MPH. Repeat twice.
---
20.) Three Lap Battle: Tsukuba

You'll be in a Nissan mm-R cup car. It is slow. Get into the Skyline's
slipstream right away. Brake VERY late (like at the beginning of the turn) and
execute at 40 MPH. Again, brake very late for the next hairpin and execute at
30 MPH. Just let go of the throttle for Dunlop, and brake until forty for the
last hairpin. Keep a steady 80 for the last turn. Repeat for two more laps.

Additional walkthrough from Awais Imran...

I bashed those who advocated 'bump drafting teh red car for three lapz" and
for good reason -- it's crap, hack, unrealistic way to run the mission.

You have to manage the pack, which means **NOT** just mashing X for 3 laps.

This works *and* you have room for error. I passed the lead car just out of
the tunnel on the back stretch, won by nearly three seconds, and the lead car
was just barely at the head of the pack by 0.250 seconds.

1) Draft down the first straight.
2) Smoothly pull to the inside and pass all cars. Keep on the accelerator
until the pass is complete.
3) Move in front of the lead car (here come the secret).
4) **Let off the accelerator until your speed is 166 MPH, then hit the gas
again. **
5) Drive as much out of rear-view as front view. Keep in position to allow
the AI to draft.
6) When the lead car(s) come up behind you, move swiftly, but smoothly right
outside the yellow line and let as many go by as are in the pack. You
actually WANT them to get a bit ahead of, but only through their own momentum.
Never Never Never slow down on a straight.
7) When it's safe to pick up the draft again, pull in behind and draft for as
long as possible. For this second turn, I passed on the outside on all laps
(except the last one where I was clear & I just hugged the bottom of the
track).
8) Repeat 4-7.

The only real 'trick' here is knowing the proper speed to drop to after the
pass in a corner. I haven't experimented with this (I'm just happy I passed
the thing), but I didn't just squeak out a victory, I kicked that Yellow POS
to the CURB.

Err on the high side (167MPH) vs. the low side (165MPH). I just re-ran the
mission and I blew one draft (dropped to 165 instead of 167/166) and got run
up into a guardrail in one of the corners (no penalty).

Still won by 2+ seconds, passing the yellow car 1/4 way into the last turn.

Bonus Tip: 1-2 cars, pass to the outside. 3+ cars, pass to the inside. When
I got chucked to the guardrail I was trying to go high around 3 cars and one
just rode me all the way to the outer wall.

As much as possible, follow the outside yellow line. Only deviate to get out
of the way of an oncoming car, to make a pass, or to cut inside on the final
curve.

split times:

I ran this again, first time in a while. I absolutely BLEW the start
(lost 0.350 trying to get a straight line going) & the first pass. As a
result, I didn't make the final pass until the final straight leading up to
the start finish line. Here are the split times.

Split times:

0.5 laps: +9.018 sec
1.0 laps: +7.776 sec

and execute without throttle for the next 90 degree turn. Floor it until you
reach another 90 degree turn. Brake until 50 and execute without throttle.
You will now be faced with three jumps. it is imperitive that you do not spin
out here. To avoid spinning out, do not turn. floor it until you reach a right
hander before a hairpin. Brake to about 50 and execute without throttle. Do
the same for the following hairpin. Pass the last two cars on the straight and
win.

*NOTE: I got a 5 second penalty on the turn before the hairpin, and still won.

Hmmm... Floor it until you reach the 90 degree turn. Cut through the grass
here. For the next two turns, use the same strategy as listed above in driving
mission 29's walkthrough. Take the next turn at 60MPH. For the next hairpin,
keep the usual speed at 75. For the next hairpin, brake early and keep the
speed at 50. For the esses, floor it, tapping the brake/letting go of the
throttle when necessary. For the "Dodge" turn, take it at about 85MPH. Brake
early for the next hairpin and take it at about 30MPH.

OK, this mission is extremely difficult. It takes a LOT of practice and you
will have to master a few things such as sliding through the grass and
wallriding. Don't give up if you really want 100% because you will eventually
beat this mission. It probably took me a good 9 or so hours learning this track
before I could finally get it so don't give up! If you're not very patient I
suggest practicing the two license test at Nurburgring and trying to get gold
in them. If you don't mind the wait, I highly recommend just practicing this
mission. That's what I did and I probably beat it quicker since I got the
feeling for the track AND the car at the same time. Now that that's said and
done, let's begin.

Gas it towards the first turn and brake to about 50 mph for it. Gas it through
the exit for a good speed down this straight. Gas it through the first light
right turn. Now tap the brakes a bit before the next turn and let go of the
accelerator through the turn. Now gas it down this straight and towards the
series of turns. You need to brake a little late because you can brake through
the turns here. You should get down to about 70 mph at the second turn of this
series of turns. Now gas it through the next right turn. Here you could cut
through the grass and you will end up at the end of this series of turns. It
may take a bit of practice to learn how to cut through the grass there but it
will definately help you. Now brake at the next S turn to about 60 mph. Gas it
through the second turn and keep gassing it to the first checkpoint.

After the first checkpoint, you will reach a sharp hill. Press the brakes
before you reach the top or you will just spin when you land. Brake for the
next turn at about 105 mph. Now you could keep gassing it. You will eventually
reach an hill. When you go up the hill, make sure your car is perfectly
balanced or you will spin when you land. You will then reach a slight left turn
where you will have to brake to about 130 mph for that turn. You could brake a
little late for the next turn too, brake to about 60 mph here and gas it
through the exit.

Now you could gas it around all of these turns. After the final turn and when
you start going uphill is when you will need to brake. Brake to about 105 mph
there. Now gas it to the next quick turn. Brake to about 85 mph for that turn.
Now gas it through the exit and brake to about 65 mph for the next turn. Here
is the next spot where cutting through the grass will help you. Slide through
the grass and try to line yourself up perfectly so you could gas it down this
straight.

Keep gassing it through the next few turns and you will reach a sharp left
turn. Brake to about 105 mph there and gas it to the next sharp turn. Brake a
little early and brake to about 65 mph and gas it through the exit. Keep
gassing it and you will reach a sharp right turn. Brake to about 60 mph here
and gas it through the exit. You will next reach an S turn, let go of the
accelerator through both parts of the turn. Now you will have to brake fairly
early and hard here. Brake until you here the car shift down (about 85 mph.)
Now you could gas it through all of these turns and to the next series of
turns. This will give you the best speed possible. Gas it to the next series of
turns and brake late, brake to about 45 mph by the hairpin turn, now you could
just gas it to the next checkpoint.

The next turn, is where you will have to learn how to wallride. The best thing
to do is get close to the wall and in the grass. Start turning a little early
and your car will slide. If your front end doesn't hit the wall, then it's
easier to avoid the penalty. Ride along the wall and through this turn. Get to
the next turn and brake to about 75 mph. Gas it through the exit of this turn.
Gas it through the next light left turn and you will reach a sharp right turn.
Here is another turn you could wallride. Now gas it to the next checkpoint.

You could now gas it through most of these turns. The first and only turn of
the series of turns you will have to brake for is a sharper left turn. It will
come shortly after an S turn that will be a light right followed by a light
left. Brake to about 120 mph here. Now gas it to the next checkpoint.

Tap the brakes to get down to about 115 mph for the next right turn. Next you
will reach the first hairpin turn. Brake early and brake to about 50 mph. Now
gas it up this hill and you could wallride around the next hairpin turn. Keep
holding the gas once you start to wallride. Gas it through the right turn after
the hairpin turn. Now gas it to the next left turn, let go of the accelerator
through that turn. Now brake to about 85-90 mph for the next sharp left turn.
Gas it through the first right turn and brake to about 70 mph for the next
right turn.

You just need to hold the brakes for a second around the next few turns, to
bring you down about 15 mph. On the last few turns of this series of turns, you
will have to brake a little harder. Now you will reach a sharper right turn
where you will see sand just ahead of it. Brake early and before that dip so
you could slow down in time. Brake to about 80 mph. Now you could let go of the
accelerator through the rest of the turns. You may have to tap the brakes at
the bottom of the hill. You will eventually reach a sharper right turn,
wallride here. Now brake to about 65 mph. Now get to the next turn and brake to
about 60 mph and gas it through the exit. PRess the brakes for a second at the
top of the hill and press it again near the middle of the turn so you could
maintain traction.

Now gas it down this straight, you need to let go of the accelerator a little
early at the last turn. Brake late and you could cut through the grass
everywhere here. Keep cutting through the grass and brake to about 45-50 mph at
the last turn. Now gas it to the finish line and if you did it all right, you
will come up in the lead.

Things to remember:
-DON'T GIVE UP!!
-Learn how to wallride. This is riding along the wall without getting the 5
second penalty.
-Learn how to steer this car while it's in the grass. There are a few spots
where it's MUCH quicker to cut through the grass.
-If you ever mess up really badly anywhere, don't just restart. Stop and go
back to about 40 seconds before where you messed up. Now start racing that
area again and keep doing to until you learn how to make the turn. Same goes
for when you are trying to test out some tricks, if you get a 5 second
penalty, don't just restart. Turn around and get back to where that turn is
(go further back so you could take the turn at the same speed) and keep
testing it out until you finally get it right.
-Keep practicing!!
-Be VERY careful while passing the other cars, you got this far, don't screw up
just because of something stupid.
-Learn where braking early or braking late will come in handy.
-Learn how to make some of the series of turns as fast as possible. There are a
few tricks listed above about where you could brake a lot more than you need
to but it will definately help you through the whole turn.
-Brake a little harder on the turn right before the straight-away, this will
give you a better exit speed.
-A few minor mistakes are tolerable but any major mistakes are out of the
question. I probably screwed up at least 5 times around a few turns on the
run that I won so it's still possible to win.
-If your split times don't match, keep racing. You probably still need to learn
the track so keep racing so you could learn it.

Split Times:

I don't normally add these but for this mission, I find it a bit necessary.
That and the split times in the other FAQ/Walkthrough is just a bit ridiculous
since they're not even close to being possible. I also made a few mistakes so
you could probably be further ahead of where I was.

When you should pass the other cars:
5th Place - First hairpin turn where the two hairpin turns are.
4th Place - Between the straight-away and the second hairpin turn by where you
pass the previous cars.
3rd Place - Very beginning of the straight-away.
2nd Place - End of the straight-away.
1st Place - Before the finish line.

Strategies by Type
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The races are catagorized, so I thought I would make general tips on each
section...

+---------------+
Beginner Events
+---------------+

These are easy. No real need for tips. The only tip I can give you is to tune
every car to the max.

+-------------------+
Professional Events
+-------------------+

Meh. My advice here is to get some serious cash, there are so many different
catagories of cars racing here. Another tip I have is to NOT sell every car
you buy for these races, but just use them for another race.

+--------------+
Extreme Events
+--------------+

To win here, you might need your B-spec driver. Because of this, I seriously
advise you to train him. I also advise you to race the 24 hour Nurb and get
the Polyphony Formula Gran Turismo, it kills here.

+---------------+
European Events
+---------------+

There are two major tips I can give you. One, wait and train yourself. There
are many tournaments which require awesome skill here. Another is get a lot of
money, you need to fully tune a bunch of cars.

+---------------+
Japanese Events
+---------------+

There are no real tips, except tune every car to the max. They use the same
cars as you do, basically.

+---------------+
American Events
+---------------+

Meh. All you can do is buy a 70's American car that's not a race car, tune it
to the max, and use it in every race. If you need trouble, you can always look
at Chapparral. >:+)

+----------------+
Endurance Events
+----------------+

There are two pieces of advice; 1.) Get the Dodge Viper and the Polyphony F1
car, and 2.) Train your B-spec Driver.

+------------------------+
Special Condition Events
+------------------------+

Get an HPA Motorsports Golf R32, tune it to the max, and use it in every race.
You'll win every time.

+--------------+
One Make Races
+--------------+

Have a lot of money on hand, you'll have to buy over 30 cars from over 20
manufacturers, and tune them to the max!

I was trying to get the Suzuki Escudo, and I realized how hard racing on
sometihng that's not tarmac really is. That's why I wrote a section about it.

-Now, powerslides are dominant here. You have to learn the technique of
powersliding. Here's an example with a hairpin.

As you can see, you need an exact amount of acceleration, braking, and
not doing either (neutral).

-Rally races are found ONLY in the special condition hall and in their
respective catagory (E.X. Championix (ICE) is found in the dirt and snow
catagory as well as the special condition hall).

-Since these races are found mostly in the special condition hall, the 5
second penalty will be waiting to strike. To avoid this, bump your rear end
against the wall if you are heading towards it.

-Except for the Swiss Alps course, many dirt courses have thin roads, making
it hard to pass.

-A lot of courses have areas with off road driving and areas with tarmac. If
you have ever driven a tarmac course with dirt/snow tires, then you might
want to erase those bad memories. Control is bad, acceleration is bad, etc.
I suggest riding the wall for the tarmac places.

I hope this helped.

Besides regular driving, there is another mode called B-spec, new to the
Gran Turismo series. This section will discuss that.

If you check the Gran Turismo 4 message boards often, you'll see an active
controversy on this new dimension of driving. Some people complain that the
B-spec driver sucks, while others are just lounging around while the driver
does everything for them. Following this is a chart, so you can see for
yourself.

Slow Down= Not in a rush, just wanting to get around the track.

Cruise= Staying at a leisurely pace throughout the course.

Steady= Getting a little tense, the perfect setting to stay at.

Fast= A rush to the finish.

Push= If not trained, your AI driver will crash into the wall often.

Now, of course, a car will floor it on a straight and brake for a hairpin,
but this is the basic lowdown.
---
Here are a few tips on B-spec driving...

*Always check up on the B-spec driver.'

*Since a B-Spec driver will do anything to pit when he is told to, he
probably will crash into the walls just outside of the pit trying to get in.
Always pit before-hand.

*After you pass your opponents, turn the meter down to 1, but keep the
overtaking button on. This way, he's not stressing out his abilities to
drive, but will pass anyone that get's in his way.

This is the best place for testing. It does nothing to your GT4 Career, yet
you can test out a car. Some cars you have to buy in Career mode for them to
work in Arcade Mode. You can also practice courses. My favorite thing to do in
arcade mode is to take a race car on Circuit De La Sarthe II and test it out.
If you want to practice racing, you can do some slight modifications to the
car, and also adjust the difficulty of the AI Cars you will be facing.

Here you shall learn about credits, and how to manage them.

Now, credits are just like the dollar, or the yen, or the pound, whatever. Just
like real money, credits must be treated as an asset. Here are some good tips
on how to manage money...

1.) Make sure that whatever you're buying is REALLY what you want. Go around
and compare, see if you change your mind.

2.) In tuning, the Turbo is the most costly (followed by NA) tuning item, so
make sure you have enough money to buy it.

3.) Don't buy a car under 50HP, unless you need it for a specific race. Using
a bad car for many races is just bad and a waste of money.

If you follow these tips, you should be OK.

But, what if you're already out of credits? Here are the BEST ways to get your
credits back. Most of these are races.
---
1.) Special Condition Hall; Capri Rally Easy

Win the two races. They will get you 10,000 credits, along with a 265,000
credit prize car (Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car). Total cash: 275,000 credits
---
2.) European Hall; Deutsche Touring Car MeisterShaft

B-spec the whole series. You will get 15,000 credits each race, 75,000 credits
for winning the championship, and you win a 750,000 credit car (Mercedes
CLK-GTR Race Car. Total cash: 900,000 credits

An additional walkthrough from Awais Imran...

What you need to get started:
IA-license.
150,000 Cr or more. (You could transfer 100,000 Cr. from your GT3 save)
Buy a Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG from the car dealer for 105,330 Cr.
Buy the race tires R3-Medium, this is the most important upgrade.
Spend the rest on upgrading the horsepower, brakes, and reducing weights. I
got the 2nd stage HP/weight upgrades.
From the Mercedes-Benz car shop, choose "One-make race", and race in "Legend
of the Silver Arrows".
If you lose, try to win easier races and save up some Cr. for more upgrades.
If you win, you will get the Mercedes-Benz CLK Touring Car.
Buy the stage 4 Turbo upgrade for your new Touring car.
Get in the Touring car and race in the "European Event #4, Deutsche Touring
Car Meisterschaft".
Race in B-spec mode, set you car to "5" and select "overtake", the AI should
have no problem winning the 1st place.
If you are 1st in the first 4 races, start race 5, pause the game and select
exit. You will still win the championship without going through the 5th race.
You will get 4 x 15,000 Cr. (from each races) plus 75,000 Cr. (from winning
the championship) plus AMG Mercedes CLK-GTR Race Car which can be sold for
743,749 Cr.

After you got the Touring car, this will only take you ~20 minutes to win
878,749 Cr. What is cool about this is you can just do it in B-spec mode.
So set your TV to picture-in-picture and let the AI in GT4 make money for you
in the small screen while you watch TV or play another game on the big screen.
I am playing Tales of Symphonia and GT4 at the same time.

While in B-spec mode, press R1 to change to "Monitor View" mode, then hold
L1 and press right button twice. This will speed up the B-sepc mode by 3
times which means it will now only take 10 mintues or less to make ~880,000
Cr.!!!

---
3.) Endurance Events; Nurburgring 24H race

This is a VVVEEERRRYYY long race, but you can B-spec the whole thing and leave
the system on overnight. You get 1,200,000 credits for the first place, along
with a 1,600,000 credit car (Polyphony Formula Gran Turismo). Total
cash: 2,800,000 credits
---
4.) Special Condition Hall; Tsukuba Wet Race Normal

A short race, a first place gets you 10,000 credits, along with a 95,000 credit
car (Mazda MAZDA 6 Touring Car). Total cash: 105,000 credits.
---
5.) Selling Cars

Sell all the cars that you can that you don't need. You can get up to 1,600,000
credits for a car.
---
6.) European Events; 1000 Miles !

A long championship that gives you 150,000 credits for each race, 300,000
credits for the championship, and a 10,000 credit car (Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint
GTA Special)... Total cash: 910,000 credits
---
7.) Endurance Events; El Capitan 200 Miles

A shorter endurance event that gives you 250,000 credits for winning, plus give
you a 750,000 credit car (Toyota Minolta Race Car). Total cash: 1,000,000
credits

Wow, that's a lot of cash! Now, here are some races that DON'T give you enough
money for your effort... Just one right now, will find more...
---
1.) Special Condition Hall; Cathedral Rocks I (or two, I just know it's the
second last one) Hard

Two 5 lap races on a really long and hard course for a 20,000 credit prize
and a 250,000 credit car (Suzuki Escudo). Total cash: 270,000 credits

I can't really say too much about photo travel mode. You can take pictures of
your car and post them in your garage, I guess. The controls are explained.
This does nothing to your game percentage or winning percentage, but each time
you go in photo travel mode and... uhh... go into something, you burn a day.
This is the best way to unlock all of the tracks, or to get to the 694th day
where you can buy the black racers in the used car lots. The loading might kill
you, though, so bring along a Game Boy just in case you are about to die of
boredom.

Look here for good advice on how to start the game!

-----------
Regular
-----------

Alright, we're off! First, you should finish the license tests.
A little advice from me is go around, get bronze, then go around again,
get silver, then go around again and get gold. This may be hard to
understand, but it just means get bronze in all tests, then do them
again and get silver, then do them again for the gold. The reason for
this is to get all the cars available. (If you get gold right away,
you can't get the car you could've won for silver) Now that we've done
the license tests, let's go to the beginner races.

Alot of these beginner races can be entered with the cars you
won from the license tests. Now, you could've completed most of these
even before the license tests, but you wouldn't race in them as well
because you didn't have practice. (Especially for first-timers of the
game) Now, do these in order from top to bottom. These races are pretty
easy, but if you need help, E-mail me.

Okay, the professional races. These are a bit tougher, but the
payout is better, so we should be getting a new car soon. As I remember
it, the Tuning Car Grand Prix is kind of hard, so stay away from it
until you get a new car. Alright, professional races are done, moving
on.

This may sound awkward, but, now, go to the special conditions
races. You can get rally cars (which sell for big $$$), and you can get
a new car! It is the Cadillac Cien. about 750HP will get you through.
This car is found on the Capri Rally Easy. But, whatever you do, do not
enter any of the hard races, unless you have a car ofer 400 HP and
under 1200LBS. The cien completes this nicely. Although, don't enter the
Tsukuba Wet Race on hard. They use Group C race cars. (don't know what
that is? look under What's This? in the car section)

Alright, we got a Cien and Mo-money in our pocket. Although,
don't enter the Extreme events just yet. Enter the Shwartzald Liga B
(I don't know if I spelled that right) and get the mercedes E500 Touring
car. Then, enter yet another German event, Deuchte Touring Car
Miecheralf (I KNOW I didn't spell that right). Then, win a Mercedes
CLK-GTR Race car. This is a Group C racer. If your not satisfied, sell
it for 750,000 Credits. Upgrade this new racer to it's full potential,
1081 Horses, and get a nitro, and every racing tire.

With this new CLK-GTR in our hands, we are a force to be
reckoned with. Let's kill in the extreme events. This is more exciting
than racing in a little Fiat. Now be careful, more power means more
control required, so don't blink. You can take a straight in seconds
with the Benz, but that Fiat does better with about a minute. Yeah
right! Now, with the extreme events done, we are the masters!

We may be the masters, but we ain't done yet. Now, we enter the
country - specific races (how racist!) Now, these are easier than group
C events trust me. You can finish these in a few hours. Except the
1000 Miles !. That takes about 12 Hours to complete, depending on your
car.

Now, we have to complete ENDURANCE EVENTS... This is gonna suck. Train your
B-spec driver as much as possible. If you need to, you can leave your system on
overnight and let the B-spec driver drive for you overnight. A good idea is to
take the CLK-GTR and win the Nurb 24 HOur race, and take the car you win there
and take down the Fuji 1000KM, the two Circuit De La Sarthe 24 Hours, Super
Speedway 100Miles, and anything else that competes group C race cars.

Now, let's finish the driving missions. Do number 1 first, or else you won't
be able to get 100%. Seriously. Then, you can do them in any order you want.
All of these reward you with 250 A-spec points, so that's good. The last
driving mission is a doozy, but complete it and get 50,000 credits! You can
also get some nice race cars that sell for some decent cash here also.

Alright, we're almost done. We have ton's of cash, group C
racers, super Caddy's, rally monsters, the whole nine yards. Now, let's
complete the Maker specific races. The tough thing about this is the
fact we have to buy a car from at least 6 makers per country, so that's
gonna wipe out a lot of our savings. Once you finish all of these, my
friend, we have mastered the game Gran Turismo 4, front and back. Let's
do it all over again!

------------------
Alternatives
------------------

Easy
----

Okay, get all of your licenses. Sell off all of the cars you can (keep
the Nike). Once that's done, hop over to the driving mission area. Get
golds in all of the events 20-34. This should get you a Pagani, Toyota,
and a Nissan race car. After that, bounce on over to the special
condition events, win, and get a bunch of rally cars. Sell all of those
so you can get the cars you need for races. Get the necessary cars and
win, dammit!

Go getter
---------

Okay, when you start out, go finish the races you can in the Beginners races.
Go get your B license after that's done. Go finish the B races, then get your
A license, beat the A license races, get the IB License, go beat the IB License
Races, Get the IA License, beat the IA license races, get the S license, and
beat the S license races. You just won.

Cash Freak
----------

Finish your license tests. Then, participate in all of the special conditions
events. Sell off all of the cars you can. After that, you should have enough
money to get the rest of the cars to win. Make sure you have at least
1,000,000 credits at all times, in case of emergency.

Tips
-=-=

Look here for little pieces of info to help you along in the game.

Driving
=======

*Driving through chicanes isn't a bad idea, but you may lose control.
If that's hard to understand, use this diagram...

/\
__________________/->\____________________    _____________________
\->/
\/

Get it? But watch out for walls or other drivers. (you can't do this in
license tests)

*Oversteer is better for me, because it allows me to steer. Understeer
makes it hard to steer, and it's found on FF (front engine, front wheel
drive cars) mostly. Oversteer is found on any rear-wheel-drive vehicle.

*When you go off the road, ride the wall. This means lightly crashing
the wall and steering with it (steer the same direction the wall is
going), then slowly driving away from the wall onto the road. This is
also useful when you're about to crash into a wall.

*Crashing other cars isn't a bad idea, It slows you down, but it slows
the opponent even more. This is useful when there is a car in front of
you, and there is a turn in front of the AI car. This will slow you
down enough to stay on the road, but sending him off the track makes
the deal even better. (Sometimes, you get 5 sec. penalties. You can't
do this at all on license tests.)

*When Redlining, ease up on the throttle. This solves the constant
annoyance of hitting a top speed and the going six MPH less. What this
does, if used properly, will keep you at your top speed, without the
six MPH reduction.

*Hold R2, And you can stretch a gear. What this means is, for example,
you normally shift at 6000RPM. This can stretch your gear out to
7000RPM. Get it?

Tracks
======

*Look out for what I call the death combo. It's just a huge straight
followed by a hairpin or another low speed turn. (Great examples of
this are the circuit de la sarthe's, Suzuka circuit, Fuji speedway,
Nurburghing Norshleife, ect.)

*when you see a track map, look at the size of the lines (that are
representing the track's roads). If they are thin, the track is long.
If they are thick, the track is short.

*Sometimes, miles may decieve you. EX. Circuit De La Sarthe is 8.44 MI.
long. But, you can floor it on more than half of that course, resulting
in times from 3-6 MIN, depending on your car. Now, Opera Paris isn't a
long course, BUT, it has many turns, resulting in brake after brake,
sometimes times may reach 2-4 MIN.

Tuning
======

*Weight reductions are the most valuable tunings for your car. They
make tires last longer, acceleration faster, and handling more stable.

*Turbo's, NA's and Superchargers aren't always good, especially for
beginners. Massive increases in power like that will make you change
your driving style COMPLETELY!

*Increasing power before handling is just a wish for disaster
(especially with turbo's and NA's).

*Drivetrain is a good tuning group because it allows the engine to put
the power to the blacktop. Just like tires.

*Tires are essential. Softer tires mean better grip but short lasting.
Harder tires mean low grip but long lasting.

Cars
====

*Some cars with 300+ HP can be bought for 20,000$. EX. Camaro.

*Supercars are actually very heavy for some reason. (well, most are).

*Mileage reduces the value on any available car for sale.

*Used cars can be made like new with an oil change.

*Prototypes can't be sold.

*Rally cars that you win (mostly in special condition hall) are
very costly, meaning you can sell them for good $$$ (especailly easy
race 2, ya get a $265,000 car).

Races
=====

*Special condition events give you cars when you get all gold in an
event. sell these for major $$$.

*Skipping races in tournaments isn't a bad idea. It saves you time,
but you cant get 100%.

*Some country-specific races don't need your car to be from that
country.

*Expert races can only be entered when professional and beginner races
are completed. Likewise, endurance events can only be entered when 25%
of the game is done. (notice all these races use group C race cars)

*For maker-specific races, always look at the allowed car list before
you buy a car for it.

*Speaking of maker-specific races, If you enter one where only one car
is allowed (EX. Citroen 2HP-2CV), you'll probably get that same car in
a special color.

Difficult stuff
===============

This section is being worked on, bear with me.

*Driving mission 23: Fiirst, pass the car pack. make sure that they are
in your slipstream, then they will pass you, then pass them and give
them your slipstream. Keep doing this until you reach the leader.
(don't give him your slipstream)

Misc.
=====

This section is also one being worked on alot.

*Look for car magazines. They will give you a general idea of what to
expect in the game car-wise.

*You can't start a new game while keeping the one you got. If you want
to start a new game, before the game even starts, on the blue screen
you get after starting the console, go into browser. Then, go into
the memory card you're saving the game to. Press X when the GT4 save is
highlighted. Press X when the delete game is highlighted, and there you
go!

E-mail me if you have anything to add.

Strategies
-=-=-=-=-=

Look here for plain ways to win. Some of these may be in the tips
section above, but I put them here also for convenience.

*Driving through chicanes isn't a bad idea, but you may lose control.
If that's hard to understand, use this diagram...

/\
__________________/->\____________________    _____________________
\->/
\/

Get it? But watch out for walls or other drivers. (you can't do this in
license tests)

*Slipstream as much as you can. You get the slingshot effect, and you
also can slow the AI car down.

*Don't always brake as hard as you can, or keep the throttle floored.
Doing this will result in loss of time, because full braking slows you
down alot more than you need in most cases, and full throttle leads to
full braking. (Sometimes you need full braking, and full acceleration
is ok on straights, just don't do it on all corners. Some are OK, others
are not.)

*If a car is coming at your rear end full speed, make sure he makes
contact with you. This will speed you up greatly. Well, let him go on
corners.

*If you brake with one end of your car on the road and one end off,
you'll spin out.

*ALWAYS replace your tires when they get below yellow. (Im talking about
the color of the wheels at the bottom of the screen.) I know you want
to finish the race, but orange/red tires slow you down considerably, and
you have no grip whatsoever. So accelerate with your front going the
right direction, not facing the 6th place AI car.

*Sometimes you need to do this for maker-specific races, but never buy
cars below 50 HP. Upgrades won't do much on these cars, and there are
few races you can win with them.

*Super-hard racing tires last longer than any other sports tire but have
more grip.

*Can't decide on a car? Go to arcade mode and race with the car you
want to buy and race for free with it.

*Nitro should be equipped accordingly. for shorter races, make it more
powerful, but shorter lasting. For longer races, put it for longer
lasting, but less powerful.

*On some courses, there are multiple finish lines. (EX. Suzuka Circuit)
On these courses, unless you for sure know what finish line is which,
keep racing until the end. You may find you have more time than you
thought! (This is especially useful on the 1 Lap Magic section in the
driving missions section, since your car is fast, and the other cars are
slower)

The Strategic Quest
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Unlike the previous section, this tells you waht to do at SPECIFIC times, not
just generally.

+--------------------------------------------+
The Conquest for the Ultimate Braking Method

In order to have a nice lap time, you have
to learn about the braking strategy. After
some serious research, you have to brake in
the following ways for good lap times...

-Brake before a turn with faster cars. Since
the car has awesome acceleration, you need
all of the time you can get to get a good
exit speed out of a turn.

-Trailbrake (brake while executing a turn)
with slower cars. Since these cars can't
really accelerate, you need to keep the best
speed you can, and not lose any to find
you'll only get some of it back.
+--------------------------------------------+

+---------------------------------------------+
The Conquest for the Ultimate Shifting Method

In order to get good acceleration with a
manual transmission, you have to figure out
the basic rule of shifting. That is;

~~~~~~~~~Shift late,  or miss a date~~~~~~~~~
What that says is, if you shift really early,
you can...
1.) If you shift really early, it can mess up
your engine and acceleration will be very
slow
2.) Shifting early means losing precious MPH
Didn't get it? Here's an example...
Say you're on Super Speedway, accelerating
after a turn. If you shift early, you will
lose 1-2 MPH every switch. Since you're not
going to reach your top speed, you could have
gone 1-2 MPH faster on that straight.
+---------------------------------------------+
+---------------------------------------+
The Conquest for a Better B-spec Driver
This is simple and straightforward. If
your B-spec driver is driving badly,
you need to train him. In order to do
so, you have to race races in a slow
pace (in B-spec mode, of course). This
means driving at 1 without the Overtake
option on after you have passed the AI.
+---------------------------------------+
+--------------------------------------+
The Conquest for the Highest Top Speed
In order to get a good top speed, you
have to get a Full Customize
Transmission. Once you have it, enter
Home, and press start right away. It
should bring you into a tuning menu.
From there, select the wrench nect to
the transmission option. Go to every
gear setting and set it to the lowest.
Now, go and see if the top speed is
improved. Note that this won't affect
acceleration for the most part.
+--------------------------------------+
+--------------------------------------------+
The Conquest for the Ultimate Turning Method
*Note, this may be considered cheating*
To execute a turn with the highest possible
exit speed, wallride the outside. To do
this, right before a turn, get close to the
wall. When the turn comes, take the turn,
but let yourself slam into the wall. This
should increase your turning/exit speed by
up to 30MPH! Note, only do this if there is
a curved barrier that's not surrounded by
something other than cement.
Hello
I am currently reading your guide, and I noticed a couple of missing
buttons, and others.
The controls you haven't written:
Select (The square thingy, i'm not sure if it's really select) changes
your camera - to bumper, 3rd person (butt-view) or hood-view. Bumper
is the only one with a back mirror.
L1 - look back. Usefull if the resolution won't show your opponents
(if they're too far away, so they're too small for the regular
back-mirror). Also usefull in blocking and slipstreaming.
Right analog - works similar to square and X, only the "analogueness"
is better - allows you to apply less power. (Note: X and square and
analog too, but less sensitive). Basically, brakes and gas.
Later on, there was a section of "What's This?", and you wrote that
Petrol is "something in the engine". Well, it's basically the fueling
liquid in most cars. Oh, and by the way, Nitrous oxide is simply a gas
which burns more efficiently than normal petrol, and has a longer
flamefront (hence those flames out of the exhaust). It does not work
like a rocket, it simply works like the regular fuel, only more
efficient - sometimes so much more efficient it really gives a
noticable speedup, but the accompanying flames give the "rocket-style"
impression.
I'd also like to point out that in the price-range of 8000-15000$,
there are some 250-300HP cars to be found in the carlots, some of
which are great cars for beginners. I found a Subaru Impreza WRX '99
model (I think) for about 10,000$, and a Mitsu Lancer EVO GT-A for
12,000$. Both feature (relatively) lot's of HP - around 276, for most
of 'em.
About the tuning section:
About Rigidity Increase and Body Refresher: If you drive a car a lot
(or very aggresively), it will deform, causing severe oversteer. To
counter this, you have to increase it's rigidity - you can guess
what's the upgrade needed. Body refresher works like tires - between
each race, it re-stiffens the car's body to it's best acievable
rigidity - the factory one or the upgraded one. Before Endurances,
it's recommended to buy both, so you (or your B-spec driver) can keep
higher speeds for a longer time, before the body starts to deform
(about the 16th hour it should be totally undriveable, even when
upgraded. Oversteer will increase already at the 4th)
Also, you don't have to buy Drivetrain upgrades for Turbo,
supercharger or Natural-aspiration tuning. Also, in my imaginary FAQ,
I would point out that you can only take one of the three types, and
that a Supercharger can only be put on a very limited amount of cars
(I didn't really notice this in your FAQ).
Another addition is concerning the brakes: On high-powered cars, it
makes huge differences - you can actually start braking way after the
red number starts flashing. On low-power ones, you barely will have to
brake. And about the brake-controller: Try Citta di Aria on an average
(or tuned, your choice) Honda NSX. It's generally a good car, right?
But every time you brake on downhill sections, you'll slip, slide and
spin. Now do that again, with the braking power adjusted more towards
the rear. See? (I did this lil' test this morning)
Transmissions: Imagine the normal transmission as waves, with each
wave standing for the range-of-use of a gear. The last wave is the
last gear, and it's peak is the top speed of the car. Now think of the
close transmission as the same thing, only with tighter waves. You
accelerate faster, but the top speed will be limited. Now again, the
super-close transmission is even tighter - more acceleration, less
top-speed. And the customizeable let's you adjust every wave the way
you like it - from extreme-speed setup to insane wheel-spinning
acceleration. Or, good accleration in the lower gears, and high speed
in the upper ones.
Flywheel: a lighter one has less inertia - meaning a fast
speed-change, and easier revving. However, a lighter one also means
less power (on weak cars) when going uphill. Basically, a good upgrade
for every car with more than 150~HP.
LSD (Limited Slip Differential) - limits the amount of
speed-difference between two wheels of the same place (Front and back
seperate). Basically, if you have the full customize (the rest are
crap and un-adjustable), put the de-accelleration to a low number, the
acceleration pretty high, and the upper one in a relatively low
section.
AYC (Active Yaw Controller) - similar to a LSD, and actually is one.
Basically, when it detects over- or understeer, it gives more power to
the side needed to reduce this effect (when understeering in a right
turn, more power comes to the left side). Can only be installed on
Mitsubish Lancer Evo cars (It's a mitsu patent)
Carbon Driveshaft - only available for FR Cars, makes car a little lighter
Turbo - stages 3-4 have a big lag if driven incorrectly. 1-2 are two
weak for this effect.
Supercharger - same as turbo, only without lag. sometimes a little weaker.
VCD - Variable Center Differential. Allows you to change the amount of
power coming to the front and rear wheels on 4WD cars. Allows the 4WD
to have the handling of a RWD.
Changing Oil simply restores your HP to it's initial maximum after a
long use. Same in real life, old oil for long can damage the engine
permanently. There's a reason to changing oil on every used car you
buy in GT4.
Another thing: As a german-speaker, here are the right spellings:
Schwarzwald Liga A & B,  and the DTM is the Deutsche Touring Car
Meisterschaft (no need for a capital S)
Alright, this is the interactive section. What does that mean? It means
you can show off the best car you have, the best lap time you got, the
most money you have, ect. You will get all credit, but if someone sends
in a better record than yours, then yours will be replaced with the
better record. To destroy his record, just comply with the guidelines
and beat your opponent. (F.E. You put a Mercedes CLK-GTR Race car.
Someone E-mails me that he has a Bentley speed 8 race car. You have to
get a better car than his, or you lose the spot. You may E-mail me to
ask if the record is better or not.)
My E-mail address is TheeMikester@aol.com. And, title the E-mail GT4
Record, so I know what it is. Oh, and don't say you did something when
you really didn't. That's just weak and cheap.
If you have the same record as somebody else, they got there first and,
not to be rude, I won't post yours. Sorry!
Make a FAQ? (DSBT)
This section is purely for people who want to make more out of Gamefaqs
by contributing. This may not be the same for all sites, mainly for
Gamefaqs.
First, go to notepad, under accessories in the start menu. This is
given to Microsoft users, so if you don't have it, you can always
download one. Once you have Notepad up and running, make your FAQ.
I suggest some ASCII art (art with the text) to brighten up your FAQ.
Once you've typed it, save it.
If you're registered to Gamefaqs, all you need to do is login. To
register yourself, at the upper left hand corner, there should
be a login box. Click sign me up. Then, give them your info, and you
should be in!
Once registered, click contribute at the top of the page. A page titled
Contributor Central should come up. Scroll down and click submit a
file. Then, type in the game, and the system it's for. A list of games
should come up. Click the one you want, and then another page should
come up. Type in the title of the FAQ, the version, ect. Uploading the
file is confusing, though. What you have to do is go into your files,
Double click the title you saved your FAQ under, and click load. Give
CJayC (the runner of this site) any additional side notes, then upload
the file. It's in!
Problems that might occur...
1.) You may have a problem logging in.
2.) The way you typed it (format) may not be so good.
3.) It may be mistaken (or rightly challenged) as plagiarized.
4.) There may be too many guides for that particular game. This applies mostly
for In-depth guides.
5.) You may not have enough content.
6.) YOu may have bad grammar/spelling.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
*any of the following can be discussed with CjayC in the additional comments  *
*box. To do so, resubmit the file as it is. When the upload page comes up,    *
*ask Ceej why the FAQ was rejected and to go in depth on the reason.          *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
To see if your FAQ got accepted, go to Contributor central, and click
contribution status. If it's rejected, add some more info and try
again.
Here's a little section on reminders...
---
Alright, let's start off with the E-mail policy. I would like it if you
could check your spelling before you send me the mail! It's kind of
nice wen peeple dont spel lik thiss and I can read the mail.
---
Another E-mail baddie that may happen is that people may try to run my
guide. This is my guide, I set down what happens. You can give me
suggestions, just don't say it... Well... Bad. For example, instead of
saying; Put this in your guide, say; It would be nice if you could put
this is in your guide, although you don't have to.
---
This FAQ isn't complete. Duh. I'm relying on you people (and myself,
don't get me wrong) to give me some things to add to the guide!
Questions are always welcome, but it would be nice if I could have,
like, the status of a track to go along with it. Questions are still
(and always will be) welcomed, but additional info is even more
welcomed.
---
Okay, this is major. Something happened to my other FAQs. Someone got
the fact that they could rate my FAQ, right? Well, it looks like
someone had a little fun with my ratings (I know this, he E-mailed me
telling me so, what a retard), and now that FAQ's ratings are at 33.33
33333333333333333333333333333333 (you get the idea, I hope), which
might deter people from my FAQ. Let's not let that happen again. If you
could rate this FAQ, then that would be great.
---
Okay, I'm not a spoiler type of guy. I may say some (I only joined the
FAQ business about 3 weeks ago) spoilers, but not on purpouse. What I
don't want is people E-mailing me; what happens at the end? How much
money do you get if you win the game? You know, stuff like that. First
of all, I haven't even beaten the game yet. Second of all, I'm gonna
leave that to you to figure out!
---
Try not to send attachments. Just send the plain text letter.
---
I love contributions. Send all of the contributions you want, I welcome
them with joy. I do ask one thing of you, though. Could you give me the
name you wish to be credited with? I don't want E-mails telling me your
screen name is wrong (If I get it wrong, tell me, the whole point of
this message was to lessen the amount of E-mails I get from this
topic).
