Introduction (2INT)
------------

The game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was released in late 2001.
Metal Gear Solid 2 is tactical espionage action. Many people when they play
through the game may find a couple of "Easter Eggs," these are things that
have been added into the game by the makers, that don't really relate to the
main story line, and they are more a fun thing to find. One of these Easter
Eggs is the Easter Island MOAI Statue.
>Note: In there NTSC version there are only four statues. However in the
PAL version there are seven statues. In the FAQ I will denote which
version(s) they are in.
>Note: When I say the most north-easterly point, I am referring to the top
left corner of the screen.

Photographing the Statues (3PHO)
-------------------------

Some of the statues can be photographed, and if you want to photograph the
statues you will need to obtain a digital camera.

[Obtaining the Digital Camera] (3ODC)

There are two ways to obtain a digital camera.

The first way is easier and quicker. It allows you to get the camera
earlier in the game. First of all go to the Strut E Parcel Room. Go towards
the bottom of the stairs (on the eastern side), which leads to the Strut E
Heliport. Slight North-East of the entry to to the stairwell there is a
ledge. Jump onto the ledge of the conveyor belt and grab the Box. Then
run around to the south side of the parcel room and jump on the ledge of the
conveyor belt. Then, equip Cardboard Box 5 and wait, when all the boxes stop
moving and the conveyor belt beeps, you can get on the conveyor belt. Ride
the conveyor belt until you arrive at a small room. Then get off the conveyor
belt and unequipped your box. The digital camera will be in the small room.

The second and most normal way is to wait till you receive the Level 5 PAN
Card from Emma. After you have got past Strut L Perimeter, helped Emma cross
the Oil Fence, and defeated Vamp. You will end up in the Strut E Parcel Room
B1. Open the watertight door, then continue towards the Shell 1 Core, just
before the stairs there is a Level 5 door, go in it and you will find the
Digital Camera.

The Statues (4STA)
-----------

[Strut D Sediment Pool] (4DSP)

Versions Available: NTSC and PAL.

First Accessible: After Peter Stillman has given you the Level 1 PAN Card.

How to get there: You can gain access to the Strut D Sediment Pool via the
DE Connecting Bride, the CD Connecting Bridge or the Shell 1-2 Connecting
Bridge.

How to see it/photograph it: First of all dispose of all the guards on the
top level of the sediment pool. Try not to kill the guard on the bottom floor,
because he has to report in. Then head towards the Shell 1-2 Connecting
Bridge door. Instead, of heading up the stairs, stand roughly below the door.
Look towards the central pillar. So you should be looking slightly to the
left from your position. Then look down, towards the water and look at the
metal thing that connects the middle pillar to the bottom floor. On the right
hand side of this object there should be the statue.

[Strut E Parcel Room] (4EPR)

Versions Available: PAL only.

First Accessible: Once you get Cardboard Box 5.

How to get there: You can gain access to the Strut E Parcel Room via the
Strut E Heliport, the EF Connecting Bridge or the DE Connecting Bridge.

How to see it/photograph it: Follow the directions to get the Digital
Camera, (in section (3 ODC), remove the space in between the 3 and the
ODC and search up.) Once you are in the room that contains the digital
camera, go to the most north-easterly point. Look towards the west wall, on
the right of all the boxes stacked there, you should see a gap in-between the
wall and the boxes, the statue will be there.

[Shell 1 Core, B2 Computer Room] (4SCR)

Versions Available: NTSC and PAL.

First Accessible: After you receive the B.D.U. from the Ninja and obtain the
AKS-74u from the Strut F Warehouse.

How to get there: You can gain access to the Shell 1 Core B2 Computer Room via
the elevator at the north side of the Shell 1 Core.

How to see it/photograph it: It is easier to do this when you have your B.D.U.
When you do this, make sure your B.D.U. should still have its hood, so make
sure you find this statue before Ocelot takes your hood from you. Once you
are on the B2 floor, go either left or right, it doesn’t matter. Once you
have climbed down the second set of stairs look in a south-easterly direction
(if you came from the west stairs,) or look in a south-westerly direction
(if you came from the east stairs.) You should see a computer room. Follow
the wall around until you get to an entrance. Stand in the entrance and face
north, you should see a poster. Now we need to get underneath the table. When
no guards are looking, crawl underneath the table from a easterly or westerly
direction. There should be a bandage underneath the table. Now look in the
south-west corner of the room, and the statue will be there.

[Strut L Perimeter] (4SLP)

Versions Available: PAL only.

First Accessible: After you defeat the Harrier (Solidus Snake.)

How to get there: You can gain access to the Strut L Perimeter via the Shell
1-2 Connecting Bridge (after the harrier fight.)

How to see it: This statue is unable to be photographed. The see it, you should
dispose of all the guards patrolling the windows. Then go to the first window,
and stand on the right of it, it is the one closest to the ladder. Then go into
first person view, stretch up, by holding L2 and R2, and look down and to the
left to view it.

[Shell 2 Core, 1F Air Purification Room] (4SAP)

Versions Available: NTSC and PAL.

First Accessible: After you gain the Nikita Remote Controlled Rocket Launcher.

How to get there: You can gain access to the Shell 2 Core, 1F Purifaction Room
via the KL Connecting Bridge and by the elevator at the north end of the Shell
2 Core.

How to see it: This statue is unable to be photographed. This particular statue
is hidden in the ventilation shaft system in the Shell 2 Core 1F. Kill all the
guards in the area before you attempt this, it make it easier. Firstly go to
the room with the two cameras in it, shoot these with a silenced powerful
weapon, (not a M9.) Then climb onto the crate and get your Nikita out. On the
right of Raiden there will be vent (north-east area of the room), but there is
a grate guarding it. It takes two shots to destroy the grate. Next fire a
missile into the vent and at the first junction take a right. There will be
another grate, take this one out. After you have done this, you can finally
see the statue, which is lying down.

[Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration Chamber No. 1] (4SFO)

Versions Available: PAL only.

First Accessible: After defeat the Harrier (Solidus Snake.)

How to get there: You can gain access to the Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration
Chamber No. 1 via the elevator at the back of the Shell 2 Core.

How to see it: This statue is also unable to be photographed. To see this
statue, make you way through the Filtration Chamber, until you get to the door
where Peter Stillman’s body floated out of. Keep on progressing through the
room until you reach the second breathing place, where you come up for air.
To the west of the air vent, at the bottom of the rubble, there will be a
statue.

[Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration Chamber No. 2] (4SFT)

Versions Available: NTSC and PAL.

First Accessible: After you beat Vamp.

How to get there: You can gain access to the Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration
Chamber No. 2 via the Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration Chamber No. 1.

How to see it/photograph it: Navigate your way through the Filtration Chamber.
When you reach the room with all the lockers in it, you will notice a dot on
the radar signifying what locker Emma is in. There is a locker to the right
of her that will open. It can only be opening when the game is played on the
extreme difficulty. The locker will contain the statue.

Frequently Asked Questions (5FAQ)
--------------------------

Q: What do the Easter Island MOAI Statues do?
A: They don't do anything at all! They are just thing that are placed in the
game for people to find.

Q: I can only find four statues, and I have searched everywhere what should I
do?
A: The NTSC version of the game (USA and Canada) only has four statues and
the PAL version of the game (Europe, Australia, UK and New Zealand) there
are seven statues. Make sure you know what version you are playing and just
follow my FAQ.

Q: I can't open the locker that has the statue in it next to Emma in the Shell
2 Core Filtration Chamber No. 2, how do I open it?
A: The locker can only be opened in when the game is played on the Extreme
difficulty.

Q: Every time I try to crawl underneath the table in the Shell 1 Core, the
quards kick me and start shooting at me, what should I do?
A: When you start crawling, make sure no guards are looking, because if they
are, you will be dicovered.

Q: How can I dispose of the guards in the Strut L Perimeter?
A: You can, if you are lucky, shot then with a M9, or use a stun grenade.
However when the guard wakes up, he will be alerted, and the game will go into
caution mode.

Q: I can't save my photo that I have taken on my digital camera?
A: It is probably because you don't have enough space on your memory card, or
there is an issue with your memory card or game.
