"A Combat Flight Sim + A Deep Story and a true difficulty"
Ace Combat (AC)is one of Namco's best game other than Tekken, the Racer series, and some shooting action... yet AC was the best combat flight simulation on the console. Compared to the previous series, this one has the best graphic yet, a great detail on the aircrafts, and terrains. Sounds are also ultimately familiar "Fox Two!" and the "Mobius One" is now replaced with your own tag "Blaze!" Let's get this down.
As usual you have three main PoV: 1st person, Cockpit and 3rd person. You can see the marvel of the graphic texture from the 3rd person view best. The trees, the SAMs and AA guns vehicle and the sky are beautiful as ever. BUT I have this last wish: Please make the water reflecting the plane's shadow. AC 4 has already using the wave effect if you flow really close to the water surface... I wish there were reflections, and you can view it on replay!
The soundtracks are excellent. You can't ask for any better soundtracks than these. The story are well supported by the soundtracks.
Compared to the AC 4: Shattered Skies (or Distant Thunder), the story is using a similar method. The story teller actually is a journalist covering the captain of your base which is similar with the boy at AC 4. Then the actual story itself has rapidly improved. There's a lot of plot twists and events. You should play it yourself.
Game Settings (10/10)
I give a 10 because this game has fulfilled my wish in Combat Flight Sim, an actually working squadron formation. Yes this game give you the option to command your wingmen with 3 basic commands. You can either let your wingmen do the attack, spread them to deal with multiple enemies or cover you 6 o'clock when you are hunted down (you are most likely the main target of the enemy aircrafts). The radar are as useful as ever, with a damage status indicator (white, orange, red). Then the autopilot is fixed, now you can also auto-adjust your speed to the default flying speed of your aircraft. And the QRAM is not as god-like as in AC 4 which increase the difficulty. Speaking of which, the Ace Difficulty in this game, is a REAL ACE difficulty compared to AC4 I'd say that the ACE in AC4 is quite the same with the hard difficulty in AC5 except that you're dead with 1 hit of missile and 5 shot of cannon/turret. I beat the ACE in 2 days of frustration and studying the enemy patterns while completing the hidden aircrafts. The hidden aircrafts are the tough one in this game because you have to use its original type of aircraft before you can get the next type. But it's the challenge of the game.
If you're a completion madman then this game will exhaust you cause you want to get all aircrafts, kill all the secret aces like in AC4, and get a perfect S-rank in every mission on Ace difficulty.
If you are an AC fan than this one won't disappoint you. Even if it does disappoint you, you will have something in return. It's either the deep story, the suspense gameplay or the cool aircrafts. You should buy!
