Review by Kuja105 Reborn
"Same old stuff, but still fun to play"
The final installment of the .hack series is nothing original. It uses the exact same graphics as the previous three, the same music and sound effects form the previous three, makes only one new addition to the fighting, and is a blast to play.
As in the previous three, you play as Kite in a simulated MMORPG called ''The World''. Your friend, Orca, as well as many other people, has fallen into a coma. You and your friends, with the help of the genius hacker Helba and system administrator Lios, fight in The World to find a way to quarantine the virus (nice how I snuck that in huh?) and wake up the coma victims. The story continues from the moment .hack//OUTBREAK ends and relies heavily upon the past three games, so this game is not the one to start with. In this installment, you see some of the best story (and the return of a favorite character of mine). If you've paid attention or spent any time on a .hack forum, some of the surprise will probably be gone, but it will still be a great experience.
The gameplay is untouched, sans one new Data Drain ability called ''Drain Heart'' which Data Drains all drainable monsters in the area with a higher possibility of a rare item.
Overall, the difficulty of the game is the a little harder, but not too noticeably, because he core of the gameplay is something you should be very familiar with - dungeon crawling. When you aren't hunting down with Wave that's destroying The World, you're finding new weapons, completing optional dungeons, gathering virus cores, and finishing side-quests. It's not very complicated, but can be a lot of fun if you're the kind of person who like collecting.
.hack//LIMINALITY makes its exciting end as well with Trismegistus, and all your questions (ok, most) will be answered. Also included is the subtitled version of .hack//GIFT, and comedic murder-mystery featuring both .hack//SIGN and game characters. Be forewarned, this is where the ''M'' rating lives up to its name. Realistic nudity is contained within the credits, and some really weird looking partial nudity is contained within the episode itself.
Also included is the opening to .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet Opening (textless) .hack//GIFT ending (textless), interviews (subtitled), and all the game trailers from the website.
All in all, the game isn't very original, but it's great fun to play. It comes highly recommended to those who have enjoyed the previous games, but those who haven't should rent part 1 first (INFECTION). With all of this taken in to account, I give this game a 7/10.
