Introduction This is a guide and a walkthrough for the Star Wars Starfighter PS2 game bonus missions. It contains information that may enable a game player to achieve gold medals in all of the bonus missions. Obtaining gold medals in all of the Bonus Missions does not appear to earn you anything extra. This guide does not include character descriptions, background information, and controller information that are already covered in the game's booklet. I have based this information playing the game on medium difficulty using the default ships for each mission. II. Legal Warning This document Copyright 2001 STEAKMO. Updated Introduction at section I. B. Added Version Update Section III. Previous sections III and IV are now IV and V. C. Updated Canyon Sprint at IV.E. D. Added content to 2 player games at IV. 9. E. Updated Ending Note at section V. IV. Bonus Missions 1. Fighter Training A. Requirements - None B. Goal - Destroy 5 waves of Holo Fighters C. Bonus Goals 1) Complete the mission in less than 5 minutes for a bronze medal 2) Complete the mission in less than 4 minutes for a silver medal 3) Complete the mission in less than 3 minutes for a bronze medal D. Information - This is a training simulation in which you face 5 waves of Holo Fighters. Each wave gets more difficult. Using the Infiltrator, you should be able to complete this mission in less than 1:30. E. Walkthrough - Use Sniper-View right away as the first wave of Holo Fighters is coming right at you. 1) First wave - there are 2 dagger ships in the first wave. Your computer should automatically target one of these. You should be able to snipe these easily. 2) Second wave - there are 4 Daggers lined up nicely for you to snipe. They should appear on your left (8 or 9 o'clock) if you haven't turned your ship since the game started. Be sure to use your target button to lock onto one and locate them in your view immediately after the first wave is gone. 3) Third wave - 6 enemies including 4 Daggers and 2 Morningstars. Use your target button to lock onto one of these. Snipe as many as you can from afar. A couple of ships may make it through to you. Take them out as quickly as you can. 4) Fourth wave - 8 enemies including 4 Morningstars and 4 Daggers. Again, target one immediately and snipe as many as you can from afar. A couple of ships may make it through to you. Take them out as quickly as you can. 5) Fifth wave - 10 Dionaga ships. If you haven't used your secondary weapons, you might as well use them now. Lock onto one from afar as they approach and blast away. If you use the right weapon and fire soon enough you can take several ships with one shot because they start in a tight attack pattern. Dionagas are the toughest ships you will encounter. They can lock on to you and take you out with 3 or 4 blasts, so keep moving. Move quickly, especially when you know you've been locked on to. Again, use your secondary weapons if you have anything left because this is the last and most dangerous wave. 2. Ground Attack Training A. Requirements - None B. Goal - Destroy 10 waves of Holo Units C. Bonus Goals 1) Complete mission in less than 6 minutes - Bronze medal 2) Complete mission in less than 5 minutes - Silver medal 3) Complete mission in less than 4 minutes - Gold medal D. Information - This is a training simulation in which you face 10 waves of Holo Units including Armored Attack Tanks (AAT), Single Trooper Arial Platforms (STAP) and Droid Starfighters. Each wave gets more difficult. Unlike the Fighter Training, the waves are released in shorter time intervals, and they appear whether you have finished the previous waves or not. E. Walkthrough - use sniper-view for more accurate shots, use your brakes to slow your ship for more time to hit targets. You will want to start off facing the surface; the enemies appear out of the holo-emitter, a round object on the surface. You can time using your secondary weapons to hit around the holo-emitter when the holo units first appear. In the 5th or 6th wave, Droid Starfighters will begin to appear out of the holo-emitter in the sky, so be prepared. The STAP's can be destroyed with one shot, while the AAT's and Droid Starfighters require several hits with the standard weapon. 1) First wave - 1 AAT and 3 STAP's 2) Second wave - 2 AAT's and 6 STAP's 3) Third wave - 2 AAT's and 6 STAP's 4) Fourth wave - 2 AAT's and 12 STAP's 5) Fifth wave - 2 AAT's and too many STAP's to count. Remember that the Droid Starfighters will begin to appear from the holo-emitter in the sky in this wave or the 6th wave. 6) Waves 6 -10 - by now you probably have targets everywhere around you. Keep your lasers firing constantly. Shoot everything in sight as fast as you can. Use your secondary weapons to hit large clusters of enemies on the ground. 3. Charm's Way A. Requirements - bronze medals in missions: Royal Escort, Contract Infraction, Piracy above Lok, Taking the Offensive, The New Resistance, and The Final Assault. B. Goal - Escort Freighters, at least one must survive C. Bonus Goals 1) 2 Freighters survive - bronze medal 2) 4 Freighters survive - silver medal 3) 6 Freighters survive - gold medal D. Information - This mission supposedly features Rhys's missing father, Reeve. His father is piloting one of the freighters you are protecting, but that is as deep as the story goes as far as I know. There are 9 freighters to protect. If you can protect all 9 maybe a secret will be revealed, but I have not been able to do this. You will be attacked by waves of various mercenary fighters and Droid Fighters and you will need to destroy two missile frigates. There is also laser cannon fire coming from the moon surface and you will need to clear mines from the path of the Freighters. The freighters need time (about 5:30) to jump into hyperspace. Depending on how quickly you destroy the enemies, you may never see some of the later waves of attackers because the freighters will take off and the mission will end before these waves arrive. E. Walkthrough 1) First wave - 2 Daggers and 3 Morningstars already attacking freighters as you start. Use sniper-view right away to take out 1 or 2. Be careful not to hit your own freighters. You will not hear a warning for hitting your own freighters, but you can damage them. 2) Second wave - 3 Daggers appear from the moon. They will target you as they say, "Target that Starfighter!" 3) Third wave - 2 Morningstars and 1 Dagger appear from around the sun. 1 of the Morningstars will say, "You are mine!" His ship will have a yellow indicator as he speaks. This is the guy to watch out for because he will lock on to you quickly. Use a torpedo if you feel it is necessary. 4) Fourth wave - 3 Morningstars and 2 Dionagas attack in an attack group of 5. They appear from in front of the freighters' path. Don't get in the way of this group. They will take you out if you are in their path. Flank them and hit them from the side and behind. 5) Fifth wave - 5 Scarabs. This wave can come at the same time as wave 4. They appear as the first missile frigate shows up. Take care of the missile frigate only after you have killed all existing enemy fighters. Press the up directional button when the missile frigate is targeted. Your team will help you destroy the missile frigate faster. 6) Sixth wave - After you destroy the first missile frigate, a swarm of Droid Fighters are coming towards your freighters. They swarm one or two freighters and can cause a lot of damage because there are so many of them. Now is the time to use whatever secondary weapons you have left to shoot them from afar before they swarm. Also, turbo over to where they are as soon as you can. Now you are in a pretty good dogfight with several Fighters, but they are easier to destroy than the mercenary ships. 7) After you kill all of the Droid Fighters, it's all down hill from here. At this time, the only enemies you can target are the satellites. I don't think destroying the satellites does you any good. You should use this time to clear out mines from the path of the freighters. Your computer is not able to target them for some reason, but the mines can damage the freighters. You will hear a warning when the next wave of enemies is coming. 8) A wave of 5 Scarabs approach - you can snipe them from afar 9) A wave of 3 Morningstars approach - you can snipe them from afar 10) A second missile frigate appears - destroy it. 11) 2 torpedoes approach. See F below. Destroy them. F. Secret - There is a Droid riding on one of the torpedoes like it's riding a bull, or more like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb in the classic movie, Dr. Strangelove. You find it towards the end of the mission as you approach the 2nd missile frigate. Both torpedoes' names will appear "ChrisCorrpedo", but only one of them has a Droid riding on it. Take a close look at it to see the Droid riding on top before you destroy it. 4. Outpost Attack A. Requirement - bronze medals in all 14 missions B. Goal - Have at least one building remaining at the end of 5 minutes. C. Bonus Goals 1) Score 1,000 points for a bronze medal 2) Score 3,000 points for a silver medal 3) Score 5,000 points for a gold medal D. Information - Defend the outpost buildings by shooting as many Droid Starfighters as possible. The Droid Starfighters are all on the ground in their walking mode. The Outpost buildings are spread out over a wide area. You begin the game with 4,900 points. A destroyed enemy Droid Starfighter is worth 50 points and a destroyed outpost building loses you 100 or 200 points. The objective is to maximize your points in 5 minutes of play. E. Walkthrough - Kill 'em all and let the Force sort them out. Use your snipe view a lot because the enemies appear very small. Shoot only the Droid Starfighters. Do not shoot the buildings and the turrets surrounding them. The turrets can also destroy enemies, but do not rely on them. Watch for large groups of enemies getting too close to the Outpost buildings. Keep moving because the buildings are spread out over a wide area. Use your target button to find targets when you have none in your view. 5. Canyon Sprint A. Requirements - silver medals in missions: Naboo Proving Grounds, Royal Escort, Taking the Offensive, Midnight Munitions Run, Rescue on the Solleu, and the Final Assault. B. Goals 1) Finish race ahead of Reti 2) All contenders survive C. Bonus Goals 1) Finish before Nym for a bronze medal 2) Finish before Vana for a silver medal 3) Finish before Essara for a gold medal D. Information - Don't worry about the survival of the other racers; they can take care of themselves. The second goal above is so that you don't kill the competition to win. You play as Rhys in the N-1 by default, but you can play in other ships if you have unlocked them. In this mission you will be racing against Nym, Vana, Reti, and Essara. Beat them all to get a gold medal. Essara is the fastest and toughest to beat even though she died in the Royal Escort mission. If only Dale Earnhardt, Sr. could make this kind of a comeback. E. Walkthrough - Start out holding down the turbo button and turbo as much as you can. I prefer to keep my ship level by never rotating (using the right stick) and pressing down on the right stick once in a while to level out. There are some mines and enemies in the open areas. It is best just to avoid them, but shooting mines directly in your way is better than hitting them. When Essara is in front of you, it's a good idea to follow her path. All of the canyons have some narrow areas that are difficult to navigate without slowing down. This mission takes a lot of practice and getting familiar with the canyons. It is easiest to defeat Essara using the N-1 Starfighter ship. It is faster than the Infiltrator. Beating the others and getting the silver is fairly easy. There is a giant hotrod at the finish line if you win the race. 6. Space Sweep A. Requirements - silver medals in all 14 missions B. Goal - Survive for 3 minutes C. Bonus Goals 1) Score 10,000 points 2) Score 15,000 points for a silver medal 3) Score 20,000 points for a gold medal D. Information - This mission is like a 3-D "Asteroids" game. The game ends after the three minutes are up, not when your ship is destroyed, so rack up those points in a hurry. A timer appears at the top of the screen and your score is displayed to the right of the clock. Large asteroids are worth 100 points, medium asteroids are 50 points, small asteroids are 25 points, and mines are worth 500 points. E. Walkthrough - Keep your lasers firing constantly. Don't worry about using your target button; just fire away at anything you see. Take out the largest asteroids and mines for the most points. There is no need to rotate your ship. But you should keep turning your ship to view more targets once you've cleared all targets in your view. This will also help to avoid debris hitting you from behind. Watch out for laser cannon fire from the planet surface and watch out for mines that can take you out quickly. 7. Codes A. You can also unlock all of the bonus missions except the 2 player games using the OVERSEER code. B. You can unlock all of the ships excepts the Blue N-1 Starfighter using the OVERSEER code. C. You can unlock the Blue N-1 Starfighter using the BLUENSF code, but you will also need to use the OVERSEER code or receive gold medals in all of the regular 14 missions to use it. D. You can unlock the 2 player games by using the ANDREW code. 8. UNLOCK SHIPS A. Unlock Guardian Mantis - requires gold medals in all of Vana's missions: Contract Infraction, Secrets on Eos, and The New Resistance B. Unlock Havoc Bomber - requires gold medals in all of Nym's missions: Piracy Above Lok, Valuable Goods, Eye Of The Storm, The Crippling Blow, and Last Stand On Naboo. C. Unlock N-1 Starfighter - requires gold medals in all of Rhys's missions: Naboo Proving Grounds, Royal Escort, Taking the Offensive, Midnight Munitions Run, Rescue on Solleu, and The Final Assault. D. Unlock Darth Maul's Infiltrator ship - requires gold medals in all 14 missions. E. Unlock Experimental N-1 Starfighter ship (blue N-1 Starfighter with Flak missiles) - requires gold medals in all 14 missions and use BLUENSF code. I'm sure you can qualify for the Blue N-1 somehow, like by getting all gold medals in the bonus missions or playing on difficult, but I'm not sure yet. See section V. 9. UNLOCK 2 PLAYER GAMES A. Canyon Race 1) Requirement - gold medals in all 14 missions. 2) Scoring a) 1 Point when opponent is destroyed b) 1 point for reaching open areas first c) 1 point for flying through blue circular gates d) 3 points for winning the race e) 5 points for winning ending dogfight 3) Information - The race is set in the canyons on Naboo just like the Canyon Sprint Mission and the Naboo Proving Grounds Mission. There are 4 canyons separated by 3 open areas. The first open area has mines and the next 2 open areas have enemy Turrets and Tanks. There are 3 blue circular gates you can fly through to gain 3 points. After the race is over, you begin a dogfight with your opponent. The open area at the end of the race has large moving satellite dishes to get in your way and make things difficult. The player with the most points after the dogfight is over wins. B. Capture the Flag 1) Requirement - gold medals in all 14 missions. 2) Objective - Obtain 3 points before opponent a) Fly through opponents gate b) Capture opponents flag c) Return to your gate with opponents flag to score one point 3) Information - Both opponents are flying in an N-1 Starfighter ship and each opponent has 2 wingman. You can assign your wingman to attack your opponent or to protect you using the directional key pad. The game is set in the skies over Naboo. Each player has a gate colored blue or red surrounded by 3 Turrets. Behind each gate is a building that has a flag that appears as a vertical blue or red line that extends from the ground all the way up to the sky as far as you can see. There is a mountainous area in between each opponent's flag areas. This area has many floating mines over it that can cause you damage. IV.
