"A good game, but flawed"
James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire is a decent enough sequel in the James Bond series. It has a lot of action, and a decent story line. This is the first Bond game not based on a particular movie.
Graphics: The game looks pretty good, and does not leave much to be desired. While the graphics are not up to par with Metal Gear Solid 2, they are certainly better than say, Max Payne.
Music/Sound: The sound in the game is good, the explosions and screams sound of a Hollywood movie. The music does not match the sound in quality. While the music certainly isn't bad, it can be somewhat repetitive. One bright spot is the change in music adds to the movie-like drama.
Gameplay: The gameplay is good, much like a regular first-person shooter. One area that makes it good is that the change in levels. It is not only a shooter, it is also a driving game, and a spying game. Bond's arsenal is equipped with everything from a regular pistol to a remote controlled rocket launcher. As with any game, the controls take a little time getting used to. The multi-player mode is as good as any other in the Bond series, with a multitude of weapons and levels, the game really comes through big here.
Characters: The developers did not make the characters very deep in this one, which is by all means okay, yet makes the game a lot less movie-like. There are no movie characters in this. James bond looks to be a mix of Roger Moore and Sean Connery. He says very little during the whole game, and when he does its usually an action punctuating one-liner straight from an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. There is very little interaction between characters in the game, and the cutscenes are short and few.
Plot: Unlike the other two Bond games, this is very light on plot. Although all 12 missions are connected, it's never really explained what exactly is the point of beating the game. Unlike most shooting games these days, this lacks the various plot twists, which is okay and can cut down on the confusion for some. The missions are not unlike those in the other Bond games, combining spying with shooting the place up.
Where this game really lacks is length. The 12 levels are quite short, and can easily be finished in the matter of a day. It's also tough to tell where you are in the story, because the game never really explains it. The relative lack of cutscenes is good for game play, but not the story. Its tough to tell what the overall object of beating the game is, and even worse, when you have beaten the game. When you have beaten mission 12 you're ready to move on to the next level. The problem is, there is no next level. It just ends, with little explanation. Even worse, it leaves you wanting more
This game is a good play. Even though it is pretty short, and the missions aren't too difficult, it's fun. The story mode has little replay value, except for different ''medals'' for accumulating a certain amount of points in the game, which unlocks a few guns and character in the multi-player. The real replay value is in the multi-player mode.
