"Decent Storyline is the ONLY good trait to this game..."
Okay, I had about 50$ to blow on a game... I had no clue what to buy since there weren't many PS2 games out. I saw this game and thought it would be pretty fun... But jesus christ was I wrong...
The controls were okay if you could understand them well enough. This is something I don't even consider an RPG, you don't level up at all, all your spells are pretty much the same, and your party members are USELESS!!! The more I think about how poor the game play is, the more I want to chuck my PS2 out the window with this game in it. And the battle system is poorly put together, I thought the game makers had a drunk guy do it in 5 minutes... I could never tell who the hell had HP remaining and how much or if I was gonna die. And the fact that items you get are useless, you spend an extra 30 minutes getting treasure chests full of nothing but uselessness.
The only thing that kept me playing this game was that I was curious as to the story. The story was pretty good, and considering that most of the game was cutscenes.... you get the picture. I won't spoil any of it, but the plot is very confusing until the very end of the game. Most don't understand it until they go through this gauntles of torture... But seriously, this is more like an interactive DVD then a video game...
For once, I wish I had to read and not listen to their voices. I mean Mar sounded like a boy with a sore thoat, and Cleo sounded like a 6-year old boy in the Vienna Boy's Choir!!! I just couldn't stand it, I even turned the volume all the way down just to get rid of the annoying sound effects. As for the video, let's just say that this proves that pretty packages can have ugly contents.
Buy or Rent? neither
Don't buy this game, don't even look at it at BlockBuster. If your curious to the storyline, watch the Anime. I seriously regret wasting 50$ for this game, I could have saved it for a later date and bought something actually worth playing...
Overall, this game is worse the Hits of The 70s played on bagpipes. I don't even know why I gave it a 4... Maybe I'm just one to have mercy...
