Well, hi and welcome to this FAQ on Sony's amazing EyeToy. Firstly, this is my
second FAQ, and so I might be a bit rusty, but hey I'm learning.

If you spot any mistakes or want to add something, then feel free to email me
at (carts147@gmail.com).

----------------------
A Bit About the EyeToy
----------------------

The first memories I have of the EyeToy, were way back in August of last year,
where it was demonstrated at Sony's PlayStation Experience at Earl's Court.
There were masses of children, fighting to play on, what seemed a massive
attraction. The game on show was, an early demo of Wishi Washi, the frantic
window washing game, where the players were using sponges to clean the windows.

People were actually having fun, not like the other games on show, were people
just stared at the screen. These people were actually having massive amounts of
fun.

This was obviously a testing ground for the EyeToy, and what helped put it into
production.

That was then, but this is now...

For me this is the most annoying part of buying electrical goods, the setting-
up. Most people hate it, but some like it. Or do they? Anyways that doesn't
matter because the EyeToy is the easiest electical thing I have ever set-up.

EyeToy is a bit like, it does exactly what it says on the box, and this is so
true. It really is as simple as Pluggin' in, Put it on Top of your TV, and move
your body.

Well here is a set-by-set guide of how to set up your EyeToy most effectively.

------------
INSTALLATION
------------

Firstly, switch off your PS2 at the back and take out the plug. Then grab your
EyeToy and plug and USB connector into one of the two USB ports. Once
connected, switch your PS2 back on. The little blue light to the right of the
lens should be on. If it isn't, check that the powers on, and/or that the
camera is connected.

--------
LOCATION
--------

The ideal place to locate the camera is either on top of your TV or directly
beneath it. I have mine on top of my PS2, but any location, along as you are
clearly displayed on the screen, is fine.

The recommended distance form you to camera is 1.5 - 2 metres. This is so you
cannot cheat and so that all of your body is on the screen.

------------------------
LIGHTING RECOMMENDATIONS
------------------------

For the EyeToy to recognise your body movements, there has to be a significant
difference in lighting between you and your background. Ideally you should be
well lit from the front, as this makes the camera see you movements more
clearly.

If the image of you on the screen is too dark, then the LED to the left of the
lens will begin to flash. It will only stop when the lighting is right for the
camera.

Never set-up the camera so that it is pointing directly into a strong light
source, as this will affect the lens, and the fuctionality if the camera.

Even though natural light provides the primary light source, any artifical
light sources will always be a bonus.

Well thats your camera set-up, time to boogie down...or just play.

Yes...there are actually characters in this game, all though they do not have
much part to play, apart from introducing you to games, and saying how
brilliant you are, or sometimes they say that you are rubbish. Well they say
better luck next time, but hey...

Anyways, heres the full character list.

These are taken form the manual.

This the main game mode explained. I will tell you the objective of the game,
and how to defeat them or set a high score. Well here goes...

                                ----------
                                BEAT FREAK
                                ----------

Beat Freak is an ace game don't get me wrong. Great for multiplayer.

The four speakers in the corners are motion sensitive. When a CD flies out from
the centre in time with the beat, your job is to hit the speakers when the CD
hits the centre. The speaker will pulstate when you hit it correctly, otherwise
a red cross will be shown. If you get the pulses in a row, then you will rack
up big points.

OBJECTIVE - Hit the speakers in time with the musci to build up your score

HINTS AND TIPS - Hit the speaker as each CD passes through its centre
               - Stretch out your arms to hit the speakers in the corners of the
                 screen, up, down, left, right
               - It may prove easier to use the flat of your hand.

                                --------

Are you ready for a spot of Kung Foo fighting?

The pagodas on either side of the screen, hold loads of Wonton's henchmen.
Your aim is to hit the enemys as soon as they come flying out of the pagodas.
Prevent them from reaching the centre of the screen, as you only have three
lives, so three attacks and your dead!

As a bonus round, you have to break wooden boards, which is quite good...

OBJECTIVE - Defeat all of the flying enemys with your hands before they reach
            the centre of the screen.

HINTS AND TIPS - Punch down to elinimate enemys on the ground. Punch upwards to
get the guys in the sky.
               - When Wonton comes on, punch him, and your on screen movements
will go blurry, and you move faster.
               - To defeat the boss, watch out for the ball of magic which he
throws at you, and when he releases it, punch it right back at
                 him.

Pretty self explanatory. In this quite bizarre game you...clean windows. Which
sounds like the most stupidest game ever invented. Well. It's suprisingly good
fun, and is even more fun when you have some friends round and you play
multiplier. Ah anyways, heres the details...

OBJECTIVE - Clean scrolling windows as quickly as possible in the time limit.

HINTS AND TIPS - Use all of your body and arms to wipe those windows.
               - Rub extra hard to get rid of those though bird stains.
               - Splay your fingers out so that a bigger area is cleaned.
               - I find it very effective using a pillow, but thats cheating

Fancy your self as a bit of David Beckham? In this simple game, your aim is to
keep the ball in the air for as long as possible. Be it using your hands, feet,
head or even your body.

OBJECTIVE - Keep the ball in the air and try to hit Wonton's goons when they
            pop out of the windows.

HINTS AND TIPS - Try to hit Wonton's goons as you get bonus points.
               - Don't let Vernon Bok get hold of the ball or he will crush it
to the size of a pea!
               - Try practicing on the title screen first, just to get used to
                 how it works...
               - When the ball goes off the screen, an arrow points to where
the ball will fall, look for this arrow, and ready yourself
                 underneath it.

OBJECTIVE - Punch Big Robo Bro until you KO him.

HINTS AND TIPS - Big Robo Bro's head is his weakness. Aim for his head to
                 defeat him.
               - When he launches a punch, try to block it using your hand or

                                 -----------

This game is a very good game, especially with multiplayer. Crank the
difficulty level up and attempt to juggle masses of UFO's to orbit.

OBJECTIVE - Spin the UFO's up to the sky, but don't use to much spin.

HINTS AND TIPS - For a succesful launch, wave you hand over a UFO to make it
rise to the top of the screen.
               - Spin the UFO too much and it will explode. So don't use too
much spin. Gentle hands movements are the key to victory.
               - When the UFO starts shaking, stop spinning it.
               - When you see Wonton's ship, wave over it to destroy it.

A simple hit game, just hit the enemys. It gets very difficluty on the Hard
difficluty level.

OBJECTIVE - Hit the enemys, but not QT or Yumi.

HINTS AND TIPS - Quick reactions are the key. Look closely at the 4 clouds, and
ready your hands ready to strike.
               - The faster your reactions are, the more points you will rack
                 up.

                               -------------

So you think you can spin four plates at the same time and hit annoying monkeys
at the same time? Well heres your chance in Plate Spinner.

OBJECTIVE - Spin the four plates simutaneously, and also knock the monkeys off
which try and hit your plates off.

HINTS AND TIPS - Spin your hand over the plate but not too hard, as this will
cause the plate to fly off and smash.
               - Look for the sparkles underneath the plate, as this indicates
that the plate is in the "Sweet Spot", which means the plate
                 is at its best.
               - Only use one hand to knock the monkeys off, as you can use the
other hand to keep spinning those plates.
               - Use both hands for maximum efficiency.

Try to keep up with QT as she takes you through some funky dance moves. This
game is very similar to Beat Freak. Still it offers lots of fun, and can get
extremely challenging in Hard Mode.

OBJECTIVE - Watch QT perform hers moves, then you have to repeat her moves in
real time. So basically you have to keep up with her moves.

HINTS AND TIPS - Watch QT and memorise her dance moves.
               - Repeat QT's moves when the lights turn green.
               - If you become ultra-funky, then you may just unlock some extra
tracks, so don't forget to check them out.

You'll have to keep your eyes peeled for sneaky little spirits as they'll try
any goulish trick to put the willies up you. Just pop them before they escape
from the graveyard.

OBJECTIVE - Hit the spirits before they leave the graveyard. Simple, eh? Try it
on the Hard Mode...

HINTS AND TIPS - Be quick. As soon as the spirits come out of the graves, be
sure to hit them straight away.
               - Don't be put of by the bats. A couple of slaps and they'll be
                 bat dust.
               - Use two hands for extra efficiency.

Either way, your coordination skills will be put to the test here.

OBJECTIVE - Kiue and Littel Robo Bro have got trapped in the mirror. Your aim
is to rescue Kiue by tapping his picture. But which way do you put
            your hand?

HINTS AND TIPS - Try performing a few small movements in the centre of the
screen to try and get properly oriented.
               - Only the most patient players will succeed.

Probably the most statisfying games in the whole package. This game is simple,
and I think offers the most rewards.

OBJECTIVE - Activate the fireworks once they have passed the horizon. To
activate them, place your hand over them and then push the plunger
on ether side of the screen.

HINTS AND TIPS - Look for fireworks of the same colour. Combine these and then
push the plunger to make a truly great show.
               - Look out for rockets and use these in combinations.

An excellent feature to the EyeToy: Play package. Here you can have a look at
any of the 14 effects, some more fun then others. Here is a list of them with
a brief explantion.

------------
UNDERWATER
------------

The screen fills with water and fish swim about. Touch them and they swim off.
Also you could simulate yourself drowning, but I will leave that up to you...

---------
BUBBLES
---------

Similar to the underwater effect, bubbles cascade down the screen. Pop them and
they get smaller each tiime, until they evntually burst.

--------
LEAVES
--------

Again similar to the Bubbles effect, leaves fall down the screen and you can
waft them about with your hand.

----------
BALLOONS
----------

Exactly the same as the Bbubbles effect, but with...balloons. You can put these
to.

------
BEES
------

Get infested with bees, or give the hive a good punch to get more out. Nice
touch.

-------------
MATERIALISE
-------------

A bit sci-fi this one. Move about and your body splits into thousands of pieces
and then rejoins when you stop moving. Cool effect though, one of the better
ones.

-----------
NO EFFECT
-----------

Well, what do you think? Perfect for using as a secrurity camera. So who really
does steal them cookies...?

----------
SPARKLES
----------

Similar to Materailise, but sparkles drip from your body. Looks mighty cool
though.

------
SNOW
------

One of the not so good ones. Snow falls form the top of the screen.

---------
SPIDERS
---------

The screen displays a web with many spiders on it. Move and the spiders collect
on any part of your moving body. Arggghhhh, aracnophobia!

---------
COPYCAT
---------

One of the best effects, and my personal favourites. Move and the camera shows
the move with lag, about 2 seconds after. It is extremely cool.

---------
NERVOUS
---------

Similar to Materialise. Move about and your body shakes, whcih makes you look
extra nervous!

---------
MIRRORS
---------

Like Mirror Time, the screen flips and twists every few seconds. Bit like the
House of Mirrors at the fairground.

---------
RAINBOW
---------

Rather like Heat Sensoring, move your body, and rainbow colurs fall from your
body or gather where there is movement. Cool!

A neat feature, and extra cool because the EyeToy also allows for sound to be
recorded aswell. I knew that tiny microphone would come in handy.

Choose between 15 differtent backgrounds for your message. They range from
footballs, to aliens, to love hearts for those extra special messages.

Backgrounds -

*Green Alien
*Pink Monkey
*Orange Dex
*Blue Football
*Blue Headphones
*Red Heart
*Pink/Purple Kieu
*Blue Toro
*Orange Pumpkin
*Orange Vernon Bok
*Red Yumi
*Green B-Monkey
*Blue Music Notes
*Purple Skeleton Face

Then select a time limt for your message. Choose from...

*10 Seconds
*20 Seconds
*30 Seconds
*40 Seconds
*50 Seconds
*60 Seconds

Please not that the more time recorded, the more space this will take up on
your memory card. Here are the sizes..

*10 Seconds - 1367KB
*20 Seconds - 2616KB
*30 Seconds - 3868KB
*40 Seconds - 5116KB
*50 Seconds - 6368KB
*60 Seconds - 7617KB

As you can see, the 60 second video clip takes a massive 7617KB of your memory
card. That nearly all of it. A HDD would be very beneficail for this.

This a cool feature. Heads of the SCEE Team when they were younger float around
the screen. You can also touch their heads to display their names. Neat!

To exit just place your hand over the camera lense, and the show should finish.
