"The demolition duo has returned...."
Jak II is the sequel of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, a game that sold millions of copies in 2001 and was one of the best platformers on PlayStation 2. With a cliff-hanger ending, everyone expected a sequel, and they got one.
The graphics in Jak II are simply the best in any platformer on PS2. They are absolutely awesome. In every way. Haven City is created with lifelike detail. Jak looks so much more cooler and the enemies are more detailed and even more dangerous than before. Not to mention the cutscenes. The cutscenes in Jak II are some of the best cutscenes ever. Awesome.
The sound has a few problems. As you traverse Haven City, you would think that with a city this big, you could have a little bit of variety in songs, but you don't. There's a slow song when you walk around (or drive), a little bit heavier song when you have a gun out and a high-strung song when the Krimzon Guard are after you. The rest is good, but Naughty Dog could have improved on that small part.
Awesome. The most enjoyable storyline in a videogame ever. Period. It has elements of freindship, betrayal, love, revenge, and with Daxter's hilarious wisecracks, comic relief. Plus, Jak can talk. He's rather angry. The first thing he says in the game is in anger. The second thing he says is in anger. He kinda gets more freindlier later, and you enjoy playing as him.
Great gameplay. If you liked the wide, open-ended gameplay aspects of Grand Theft Auto III, you will absolutely love this. GTA gamers will feel right at home. You jump from mission to mission with a radar to help you along. It looks just like the radar in GTA. If there's one thing Naughty Dog could have improved here, it would be to make the city easier to get around in. Once, I wanted to find the first area of the city after unlocking the whole thing. I was lost for an hour. It coulda helped people!!! Otherwise, the platforming aspect of the gameplay is solid. Jak responds to your controller just like he would in real life. There's bits of Jak and Daxter, Grand Theft Auto III, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater(some jetboard missions) and Devil May Cry(when Jak get's angry, HE GET'S ANGRY!!!).
Despite a few minor sound problems and a big big city, Jak II is a solid platformer. Jak I was easy, kid-like platformer that Disney could have made. Jak II is extremely hard, more mature and more darker. Adults and teens can play this game. Those little kids that played The Precursor Legacy wouldn't know the difference between Jak 1 and Jak 2. Jak II is the greatest platformer on PS2, and could very well be the Best Game of 2003. Thank you Naughty Dog!!!!!
