1.0             Version History

.1   -- Very incomplete.  Basic framework and a way to get mission objectives
up quickly.


2.0             Introduction

In a nutshell.  American pilot gets in trouble.  Runs away to England to join
the RAF (Royal Air Force).   American is such an excellent pilot he is asked to
join Battlehawks (Special Operations Squadron).  American pilot participates in
every major battle in World War II.  As a thank you for winning every major
battle in World War II the developers let him play with an X-Wing Fighter and a
TIE Fighter in the instant action portion of the game.

Seriously folks this game is weak on story.  If you want to get the story
listen to every letter and diary entry this guy writes.



3.0             Planes

This section is incomplete.  For the time being I will list the planes that I
know appear in the game.  If they are available in the single player campaign I
will list how and when you get them.  Future version will list each planes
stats as I finish researching them.



3.1          Hawker Hurricane
This is the plane you start the game with.  You only have to fly this in the
first mission.

3.2          Supermarine Spitfire Mk. V
You win this if you beat Trevor in challenge: Dogfight.


3.3          Junkers Ju-88
Becomes available after completing Mission 2: Adlertag.

3.4          Messerschmitt Bf-109
Becomes available after completing Mission 3: Sea Lion.

3.5          Fairey Swordfish
Becomes available after completing Mission 3: Sea Lion.

3.6          Lockheed P-38F "Lightning"
Becomes available after completing Mission 4: Rommel.

3.7          Mitsubishi A6M "Zeke"
Awarded for completing the bonus objectives in challenge: Devastating.
Can be stolen from the enemy airbase in Mission 6: Prison Break.

3.8          Grumman F4F-3 "Wildcat"
Becomes available after completing Mission 6: Prison Break.

3.9          Douglass TBD-1 "Devastator"
Becomes available after completing Mission 6: Prison Break.

3.10         de Havilland Mosquito Mk. IV
Becomes available after completing Mission 7: Midway.

3.11         Curtiss-Wright XP-55 "Ascender"
Awarded for completing the bonus objectives in challenge: Mosquito Bite.

3.12         Focke-Wulf Fw-190
Awarded for completing the bonus objectives in challenge: Big Bang.
Can be stolen from the enemy airbase in Mission 8: Denmark.

3.13         Ilyushin IL-2 Sturmovik
Becomes available after completing Mission 8: Denmark.

3.14         Chance-Vought XFSU-1 "Flying Pancake"
Becomes available after completing Mission 9: Stalingrad.

3.15         Northrop XP-56 "Black Bullet"
Awarded for completing the bonus objectives in challenge: Recovery.

3.16         Messerschmitt Me-262A-Ia
Becomes available after completing Mission 12: Jet Stream.

3.17         North American P-51D "Mustang"
Becomes available after completing Mission 12: Jet Stream.

3.18         Gloster Meteor Mk. III
Awarded for completing the bonus objectives in challenge: Freie Jagd.

3.19         Junkers Ju-87 Stuka
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign.
 
3.20         Messerschmitt Bf-110
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign.

3.21         Heinkel He-111
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign.

3.22         Curtiss P-40 "Warhawk"
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign.

3.23         Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress"
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign. But you can act as a
gunner onboard.

3.24         Messerschmiit Me-163 "Komet"
Unable to procure yet in the single player campaign.



4.0             Weapons



4.1             Cannons
Each plane comes with stock machine guns. You can add cannons instead of bombs
to some planes on a per mission basis.

4.1.1      37 mm Cannon
You can use this cannon on tanks and ships which your stock machine guns do not
penetrate.  Can be used against other planes, but fires more slowly then stock
machine guns.

4.1.2      57 mm
Also used against armored targets.  Holds less ammo and fires more slowly than
the 37mm.  But it takes less rounds to kill something.


4.2             Bombs
Freefall bombs.  I will just list what they are good at killing.

4.2.1      250 lb. Bomb
Ammo Dumps, Lightly Armored Vehicles (not Panzers), AA emplacements.

4.2.2      500 lb. Bomb
Panzers, Panzer Columns, Ships, Armored Buildings

4.2.3      2000 lb. Bomb
Big Targets, Big ships, Heavily fortified buildings

4.2.4      Highball
Bouncing beachball packed with 600 pounds of high explosives.  Drop from less
then 100 feet over water.  Bounces over the surface till it collides with
target.  Used on Dams and Ships.


4.3             Rockets

Dumb fire, line of sight rockets.

4.3.1      Small Rocket
Small buildings, armored vehicles.  Tanks require multiple hits.

4.3.2      Medium Rocket
Buildings and Tanks

4.3.3      Large Rocket
Big Buildings, Aircraft on the ground, Hangars.  One shot, one kill.  Shoot and
scoot.


4.4             Guided Weapons

4.4.1      Fritz X
Free fall, radio guided bomb, designed as a ship killer.
  
4.4.2      Henschel 294
Rocket propelled flying torpedo.  Steer it in the air then it runs unguided in
the water like a normal torpedo

4.4.3      Henschel 293
Camera controlled air to ground rocket designed to hit ground targets from long
distance.

4.4.4      X-4
Radio controlled Air to Air missile.  Designed to destroy bombers.


  4.5          Torpedoes


4.5.1      Mark XV
Unguided torpedo.  150/150/250.  You must drop this from less than 150 feet at
less than 150 mph.  The torpedo must travel 250 feet to arm itself.  Also if
your AOA (Angle of Attack) is to great it will not fire.  Therefore you can not
pull up from a steep dive and fire off one of these.  Best strategy is to fire
one off from a good distance.  You will have to lead moving ships.


5.0             Plane Upgrades

Each upgrade on each plane requires an upgrade ticket (requisition).  Ammo and
bomb upgrade only effect the amount you are able to carry.  They do not effect
speed or handling. 

Armor 1-3
Each upgrade increases damage protection by 25%, but the will slow your plane
by 10%.

Engine 1-3
Each upgrade increases maximum airspeed by 20%, and climb rate by 5%.

Airframe 1-3
Each upgrade increases roll, pitch, yaw, and turn rate by 10%

Extra Gun Ammo
Doubles your stock gun ammo.  Does not affect cannon ammo.

Double Bomb Rack
Doubles your bomb capacity.  Doe not affect rockets.

Double Rocket Pack
Doubles your rocket capacity.  Does not affect bombs.

Double Cannon Ammo
Doubles your canno ammo.  Does not affect your stock gun ammo.

7.0             Mission Objectives

This section only lists the primary, secondary and bonus objectives for each
mission.  This is the section you want if you are not interested in the mission
strategies.

7.1            Dunkirk

Primary Objectives:
  1. Keep Stukas from destroying transports -- Half must live.
  2. Destroy Bf-109s.
  3. Protect the defensive lines.
  4. Shoot down Krieger

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all AA guns.
  2. Destroy Nemesis Bf-109s

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Destroy Recon Group #1
  2. Destroy Recon Group #2


7.2            Adlertag

Primary Objectives:
  1. One Hangar must not be destroyed.
  2. One Radar Station must not be destroyed.
  3. Destroy all Nemesis Bf-109s.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Half of Hythe must not be destroyed.
  2. One Hangar must survive second attack.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Shoot down more planes than Lyle.
  2. Half of New Romney must not be destroyed.
  3. Two Radar Stations must not be destroyed. 


7.3            Sea Lion

Primary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all Landing Craft.
  2. Capture Reserve Airfield.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Destroy Fighter Hangars.
  2. Destroy Bomber Hangars.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. At least one British destroyer must survive.


7.4            Rommel

Primary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all freighters.
  2. The White Rose must survive.
  3. Destroy Roadblocks.
  4. Pauline's C47 must not be destroyed.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Sink all Destroyers and U-Boats.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Destroy German Hangars.
  2. Destroy Ju-88 cargo planes.


7.5            Flying Tigers

Primary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all crates.
  2. Shoot down all Zekes.
  3. Shoot down all Nemesis planes.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Sink all freighters.
  2. Sink all destroyers.
  3. Destroy all trucks.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Shoot down more planes than the Flying Tigers.


7.6            Prison Break

Primary Objectives:
  1. Rescue Pauline and the POWs.
  2. Destroy POW Camp gates and towers.
  3. Clear the way for POWs to take off.
  4. Destroy the Fw-190s,

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Destroy POW Camp HQ.
  2. Destroy all trucks.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Destroy all Japanese Destroyers.

7.7            Midway
        
        Phase 1:

Primary Objectives:
  1. Protect allied aircraft while they attack Japanese carriers.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. All Dauntless Dive Bombers must survive.

        Phase 2:

  1. Protect the Yorktown

  1. Destroy all Japanese aircraft.

  2. Destroy defensive lines.
  3. Destroy attacking Ju-390.

  1. Destroy supply train.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Destroy all AA guns.


7.10           Low and Slow

Primary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all Ju-390s.
  2. Destroy Ju-390 factory.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Shoot down all Nemesis Bf-109s
  2. Destroy supply train.

Bonus Objectives:
  1. All Bf-110s must be destroyed before takeoff.


7.11           Heavy Water

Primary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all AA guns.
  2. Destroy Dam generators.
  3. Commandos must destroy heavy water plant.
  4. Commandos must escape in C47.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. Destroy all ground forces.
  2. Destroy half of the Me-262s 

Bonus Objectives:
  1. Destroy all Me-262s


7.12           Jet Stream

        Phase 1:

Primary Objectives:
  1. Protect B-17s.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. 9 B-17s must reach Me-262 base.

        Phase 2:

  1. Pauline's B-17 must survive.

Secondary Objectives:
  1. At least 6 B-17s must survive.

As of yet I have not seen any console cheats for SWON.  There is a +4 trainer
and a save game with all planes and missions unlocked.  These are available
from:  http://www.ggmania.com
