"The best football game ever."

NCAA Football 2004 is an amazing piece of work. Here's the review:

GRAPHICS: 10/10

Wow. This game looks amazing. The lighting is really what does it for me, and everything is modeled to the finest detail. The animations are very fluid and the tackles look excellent. The fields look real and I don't think you could get any better than this on PS2.

SOUND: 9/10

The sounds on the field are excellent. You hear your team's fight song playing after you score, the crowd bursts into a loud cheer as you break a long run, and the crowd will chant. For example, if it's 4th down and 2 yards to go, the crowd might be chanting ''GO! GO! GO!'' requesting that you go for it. If you don't and you come out in a Punt formation, the crowd will boo and be disappointed. Things like this really add to the atmosphere. The announcing on the game is great, but you will hear the same thing from time to time, but usually not in the same game. They remember things that happened your last drive, and announce milestones as your break them. For example, if you rush for 3 yards, but go over 1000 yards for the season with that rush, the announcers will say ''This kid has just rushed for 1000 yards on the season with that run.'' It also announces when you get close to breaking a school record. ''1 more sack and this kid will tie the school record.'' Enough about sound, let's move on to the controls.

CONTROL: 10/10

This is amazing. There are so many things you can do. You can pump fake, fake pitch, lateral, handoff, scramble, juke, spin, dive, tackle, jump, stiff arm, swat the ball, sprint, adjust your D Line, Linebackers, coverage, and among other things, even choose your own TD celebration...and guess what? All of this is so easy to pull off it's like second nature. EA did a great job deciding what buttons would do what and it all feels excellent during the game. No problems here.

Fun/Replay Value: 10/10

You'll be playing this game for a long time. You can play a dynasty with your favorite team, and take them from season to season recruiting new players and try to make the front cover of Sports Illustrated. There's a College Classics mode where you play 20 of the greatest college football games of all time and try to repeat or change history. You can unlock historic teams, and the more you play the more rewards you unlock in other EA sports games. This is able to be accomplished by a new feature call EA Bio. Basically, it's a file that tells you how many EA sports games you've played, what milestones you've accomplished in the games, and how long you've played each game. By playing more, you gain levels and you get rewarded for it by unlocking things in other games. Games that are affected by this so far appear to be Madden 2004 and NBA Live 2004. The real replay value comes from the online mode. There's lots of people to play, and the game keeps track of a lot of stats. The online mode is fun and exciting.

Rent or Buy?

I say buy it. Even if you have 2003, buy this game! It's got a lot of new features and online mode is simply a blast! I doubt it could get any better than this on PS2, but leave it to EA and Tiburon to amaze us once again :)
