Your laser is old or out of alignment by just a little bit. It happens as they get older. I have had the same problem. My system is a launch model and I've had to do this twice. All of my games would read except one (Star Ocean: TtEoT). My system was out of warranty already so I said "ahh, what the hell" and opened it up.
If yours is still under warranty, don't do the below...
*****Disclaimer: The following process is described exactly as I have done it (several times for friends/family member's PS2s). I take no responsibility if you screw up your system.*****
This procedure is to change the angle of the PS2's laser lens. It is safe as long as you don't touch anything while the system is plugged in and do NOT look at the laser if it is reading something.
Take out the screws on the bottom and either remove or cut the warranty label on the back under the power switch. Looking at the front of the system, tilt the top half towards you as you lift. Be careful on the right side is a ribbon cable that connects the power/reset buttons to the innards. Set the top off to your right and take out the small screws keeping the lid on the DVD drive.
You'll need to have the dvd tray open so plug the PS2 back in and open the tray. Kill the power and unplug. Don't touch anything inside while the power is hooked up. You stop your heart because you touch something and it isn't my fault *see Disclaimer*. The white cog in the back is what you want. You can use a sharpie to mark the original position of the cog if you like. Put a small dot where the metal dimple is pointing. Now turn it a click or two CLOCKWISE. No more than 2 clicks. Clean the laser lens while you have the system open with some Isopropyl Alcohol and a Q-tip. Do NOT use a cotton ball, it can leave fibers on the lens and it can scratch it too.
To test, you don't have to put it all back together just yet. Put the cover back on the DVD drive and plug the system up. Keep one hand on top of the cover to keep it down. Try Aerosmith to see if it'll load. Also, make sure it still reads other media as well (CDR, blue bottomed disks, regular DVDs etc). If all is well, put it all back together and you're good to go. If it is a no-go, try 1 or 2 more clicks on the white cog. I've never had to go more than 3, the first time only 1 click fix'd it for me and the second time I had to go 2 clicks.
I can give pics if needed or you can find some with Mr. Google.

If you have a big PS2, they usually fail after around 2-3 years (maybe longer) in my experience. First it stops reading dual-layer disks and blue disks (as well as PS1 disks) and then it stops reading all disks. Has this happened?
If it's a slim-line, I suppose the same thing could happen, but I'm not certain on this.
well, if it's not giving you a read error, then the lens itself isn't dirty, there is something wrong with the motor not picking the CD up anymore.
Now if you are like me and voided your warranty, crack that sucker open (but be careful of the power liner) and turn it n and see where the CD stops spinning, if it stops spinning 3 seconds after turned on, the motor is dead, if it stops spinning later than that, then I don't know what to tell you. But, my best advice, if you want to keep your PS2 and not shell out $129 for a new one, then just go on Ebay and get a new DVD drive, you might get lucky and get one for around 10 bucks, good luck.
This may or may not be available still I got my old big deck fixed by doing this ...........................
*Read disc errors*
"The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000135)
