1. INTRODUCTION

1.1  STORY (adapted from playstation.com)

Hanuda, once a peaceful rural village in Japan, has suddenly become a hive for
evil, an inescapable nightmare surrounded by a sea of blood. Something happened
there 27 years ago and it has happened again. All but handful of its
inhabitants have met with a gruesome fate, and now it's up to the survivors to
unravel the mystery behind the transformation of the small town before they
join the rest of the population.

But the rest of the population aren't quite dead yet. Friends and neighbours
have now become disgusting, stomach-churning creatures known as shibito and
each and every one of them is intent on leading the remaining living to a
horrifying death.

Taking place over a three day period, Forbidden Siren's 78-episode narrative
not only switches between each character, but also goes forwards and backwards
through time to help you understand exactly how everything falls into place.

1.2 ABOUT THE GAME
------------------

Forbidden Siren is a bit different survival horror game. It doesn't take you
from the beginning to the end right away but spreads the story between
different playable characters in different times during a three day period.
Forbidden Siren mixes survival horror, stealth and adventure gaming. It needs
patience and nerves of steel. If you don't have either, forget it. Forbidden
Siren is not a walk in the park as it's not an action game and doesn't take
you by the hand like most of the games nowadays. So you've been warned. Give
it a chance though and you're in for a treat!

1.3 ABOUT THE FAQ

The FAQ is 100% complete.

Use this FAQ only as your last resort. Don't play the game with this guide
printed in the other hand. It spoils the fun. Yes, I said fun. As bleak,
depressing and weird Forbidden Siren is, it's always fun to come up with
solutions by yourself. So try first, then and only then turn to this guide.
The game controls and options are described in the manual and in-game menus
as well so I found it unnecessary to include them here. See "general tips"
for some valuable advice.

The FAQ is based on PAL version but I believe it applies to the all versions
of the game.

3. GENERAL TIPS
===============

3.1 SURVIVAL
------------

* Grabbed by a shibito? Waggle the left analogue stick to shake it off. Had
  the manual told this, my hair wouldn't be grey now...
* Turn off the flashlight because it attracts shibitos. Use it only when
  needed, for example when searching items for the archive and while shooting
  the shibitos for a better aim. Instead crank up the brightness in options
  menu in the game and of your TV setup to see your way in the game world.
* Light and sound attract shibitos. This applies both to moving the character
  and distractions you can make during the levels.
* Take full use of sightjack. With it you can monitor shibitos' movements.
  Press L2 to enter the sightjack mode and gently move the left analogue stick
  around to find different views, just like manually tuning an old TV set.
  Assign views to the four face buttons of the controller for quick viewing.
  Always sightjack everything you can at the start of each level. If you have
  to try again a stage after getting killed in it, you don't have to sightjack
  everything again. All the views are kept in the memory.
* In options you can change the effect of shibito noticing you between
  switching momentarily to shibito's point of view, screen flashing briefly
  red or none. I prefer red because momentary switch to shibito's POV can
  confuse your orientation in tight spots.
* When you're spotted by a shibito, in tight situations it might be difficult
  to get bearings of it. Immediately switch to sightjack by pressing L2 and
  then press either R1 or R2 to switch to the POV of the shibito who spotted
  you. This is mentioned in some manuals but at least the Scandinavian version
  is missing it.
* When you press the triangle button when viewing the map, it rotates
  according to the direction your character is facing. Very helpful and not
  documented in the manual!
* It's a good idea to close doors behind you. It slows down normal shibitos
  following you and completely blocks the crawlers.
* Don't get attached to the characters. That way you will feel much better
  when the game gets cruel...

3.2 STAGES & OBJECTIVES
-----------------------

* When playing a stage again (to accomplish the second mission objective or
  to hunt down missing archive items) you don't have to collect again the
  archive items you have already collected or trigger the second mission
  objectives you've already triggered in the previous go.
* If you didn't trigger the second missions objectives during the first mission
  objective in a stage, don't worry. You can trigger them during the second
  mission objectives too or you can simply replay the stage via stage select.

...AND THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP:

* If you use "try again" from a checkpoint in the middle of a stage, all the
  archive items and triggered secondary mission objectives before that point
  are lost. Yes, that's right. In other words, you should complete such levels
  in one go from beginning to end. Obviously it's a bug.

4. KEY TO READ THE WALKTHROUGH
==============================

* Press the triangle button to call up menu and execute [commands in brackets]
* <objects> or <stuff to be added to the archive>
* <<this means setting the goals for the secondary mission objectives>>
* I assume you check the map on a regular basis to see the places referred to
  in the FAQ. That's why I don't guide by the hand to exact locations.
* I haven't included every shibito roaming the stages to the walkthrough. You
  know there are shibitos so be alert. I have mentioned only those shibitos
  you need to do something about or avoid in order to progress in the stage.

5.1 DAY 1

KYOYA SUDA Yesterday 23:00, upper Arato/Mana stone

Mission objective: escape from the police officer

Head to the prefad shed and open the door. [Pick up] the <car keys> from the
table and take a look at <Hanuda community newsletter> on the corner table. Get
out and look at <Tetsuo Ishida's police ID> at the spot the police officer
landed on. Now go to the car and first [unlock car door] and then [get in car].
Take a look at <Bang!! magazine> on the passenger's seat. [Insert key] and
[start engine].

KYOYA SUDA Day 1 02:08 Arato, banks of the Mana River
=====================================================

Mission objective: reach road to Karuwari with Hisako Yao

This level acts as a tutorial. You will be briefed to the game's controls.
Follow Hisako's advice. First viewjack her and all the shibitos nearby and
assign different views to the face buttons of the controller. After that she
asks you to follow her. She stops at the steps to the village and asks you to
wait for her to call you. Hisako goes to the front of cafeteria and hails you.
Ascend the steps but instead of goint right to her, turn left and [pick up]
the <key> by the phone at the desk of tobacconist to <<fullfill goals for
mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 01:00>>. 

Now go to Hisako and follow her to the back alley of the cafeteria. She asks
you to crouch. Do it and follow her while crouching. You end up at the bus
stop. Take a look behind the rightmost corner of the barbershop and notice
<drawings with cryptic symbols> which will be added to the archive. Now go back
to the bus stop and climb to the top of it. [Pull up] Hisako and follow the
trail to the end of level.

After a cutscene <Tamon Takeuchi's faculty id> is added to the archive.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 02:00 Harayadori, Yabay settlement
=======================================================

Mission objective: reach road to Karuwari with Yoriko Anno

First of all, turn off the flashlight. It's sure to attract shibitos like
flies. There's a nasty sniper shibito on a roof of Takaya's house with a very
good view to the surrounding so be aware of it. Your first aim is to get to the
opposite bank. Take Yoriko with you by saying [come here] and take the path to
the right. After walking a while cross the wooden bridge over the dry stream.
Your aim is updated: head to Karuwari with Yoriko. Climb up a bank and go round
the Nakajima's house from the right side. Behind it climb up a bank to
Yoshimura's house. Step inside of it and [pick up] a <broken radio>.

Get out, turn right and continue forward. Soon you'll come to a slope which
leads to the graveyard. Go there and notice the <fragment of megalith> in the
small mana shrine. Go down the slope, turn right and take the next slope down.
Take a couple of steps forward and take another slope down to the well. [Pull
up bucket] and notice an <idol found at bottom of well> which drops out of the
bucket. Now [Put radio in bucket] and hide nearby (behind a bank in front of
Nakajima's house is a good place). A shibito patrolling the area will be
attracted by the white noise radio is making and comes to the well (if you shot
that shibito earlier, you have to wait a bit longer for it to recover and head
to the noise from the well). Sneak close to it and when it has leaned over to
look into the well, shoot it into the well to <<fullfill goals for mission
objective 2 for Akira Shimura on Day 1 at 16:00>>.

Next you should reach the road to Karuwari. Instead of taking the straight road
(remember the sniper), go to the Yoshimura's house and take a slope up leading
to the road. Eventually you'll come to a storage shed. Turn right and head
towards the road to Karuwari.

After a cutscene the <Book of Deliverance Chaos at the End of Time> is added
to the archive.

ALTERNATIVE WAY:

If you think Yoriko is only slowing you down, leave her at the start of the
stage. Deal with the stage as above but when you come to the storage shed,
turn left from there. Now ask Yoriko to [come here]. You have to go a towards
her on the main road to make her move. Don't go too far though so that the
sniper won't notice you. When Yoriko is safely with you, turn around and head
to the road to Karuwari.

KEI MAKINO Day 1 06:00 Arato, banks of the Mana river
=====================================================

Mission objective: reach road to Karuwari

Ascend the steps and run towards the cafeteria. Go behind it from the right
side. Even though shibitos might have noticed you, they don't follow you there.
Open the backdoor and get in the cafeteria. [Plug in] the freezer and take a
look at <Hanuda Town hall news> on the table. 

Now run behind the rice shop. There's a shibito weeding behind the corner.
Crouch past it and go behind the fire shack. Keep an eye on the street and wait
until the two patrolling shibitos turn away. Now go between the Ishikawa house
and the barbershop. Soon a shibito will fall from the roof. Run to the bus stop
and climb to the top of it. The shibito will follow you and when you see it
climbing up, drop down and head back between the houses. Shibito can't follow
your fast moves and leaves you be.

Notice the numeric code written on the backwall of the barbershop (0705). Open
the backdoor of Ishikawa's house and enter it. Inside open a door to the room
with a tape recorder. Rewind the tape according to the numeric code and press
play. You'll hear a four-digit code. Notice the <hanging scroll> on the wall
before going out to [remove lock] from nearby shack with the code. Open the
shack and [pick up] the <face towel>. Turn left and [pick up] the <rope>.
<<This will fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Kei Makino on Day 3 at
12:00>>. Go back to the backroom of cafeteria (beware the shibito hammering
the barbershop wall) and [soak the towel] by the sink. Now [place the towel]
inside the freezer to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Shiro
Miyata on Day 1 at 7:00>>. Now go back to the top of bus stop (remember to
monitor the shibitos nearby) and take the path forward to exit the level.

KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00 Karuwari, Cutfell way
============================================

After a cutscene <Jun Kajiro's family register> is added to the archive.

Mission objective: reach the road to Taburi settlement with Miyako Kajiro

Your first aim is to get something to use as a weapon. Take Miyako with you
by saying [come here] and head to the remains of bonfire and [pick up] the
<poker> to use as a weapon. The next aim is to get past the iron fence. Don't
go there yet and leave Miyako behind by saying [wait]. Now head to the
abandoned storeroom. Poke the hammering shibito unconscious and continue
forward on the path. Sightjack a sniper shibito guarding a broken bridge
ahead and when it turns away, run to the little path to the right. You should
see a lantern and to the left of it a tree. [Clear brushwood] from the left
side of the tree to open a new path. Climb up a bank and head to the stone
marker. [Push marker over] to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2
for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at 23:00>>.

Now get back to the bonfire and take Miyako with you by saying [come here].
Go left from there towards the iron fence. Smash the iron fence with the
poker. Three heavy blows should do the job. The aim is again updated: head
to Taburi settlement.

Start descending banks scattered with mana crosses and soon a shibito nearby
will notice you. That's okay because it's easy to deal with: when it tries to
climb to the bank where you are, pummel it with the poker. Now make your way
further by taking the right side of the scenery (there's a shibito looking over
on the hill to the left and you don't want it to chase you) until you get to
the red river (a shibito on the other side of the river may notice you but it
can't harm you). Follow the river to the left and you'll see a natural steps.
Ascend them and get past the gate to the church.

Descend the following natural steps and soon you can see a crossroad ahead.
Don't go there yet but ask Miyaki to [wait]. To the road left there's a fuel
truck and behind it there's a shibito patrolling. Sightjack it and wait until
it turns away. Now sneak behind it and hit it with the poker until it's
stunned. Then get back to the crossroad and you can see a hoeing shibito. Call
its attention by [shouting] and when it tries to climb over the banks to get
to you smash it. Now you have some free room to monitor the sniper shibito near
abandoned car at the end of the path. Sightjack it and when it starts its route
away from the car to the broken bridge, run quickly to the car and [pick up] a
<screwdriver> behind it. <<This will fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for
Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 01:00>>. Get back to Miyako and ask her to [come here]
and head to the road to Taburi settlement past the fuel truck with her. If the
shibito you pummeled before has woken up, treat it again with the poker.

AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 08:00 Gojaku peak, Misumi trail

Mission objective: reach road to Hirasakai

Your first aim is to find a tool in the siren shack. First of all, sightjack
two snipers. Now head out of the tunnel and turn left. Sniper on the roof of
the siren shack may shoot at you but if you're fast enough, it will miss you.
At the mine office block descend the stairs all the way down to find
<Kamoshira diary>. Get up to the ground level and head towards the siren shack.
Shoot the sniper on the roof of it down before heading to the opening. There
are also two shibitos wandering around so deal with them too.

In the siren shack [pick up] the <wire cutters> lying on the control panel.
Your next aim is to move trolley. You can also [set off] siren but it's not
advisable as it attracts shibitos. Head to the shaft No. 5. There's a shibito
behind the gate so shoot it immediately after opening the gate. At the end of
the tunnel [switch track] to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for
Naoko Mihama on Day 1 at 19:00>>. There are two doors at the end of the tunnel.
Open the right and soon you see a hole on the left wall. [Overturn marker] to
<<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at 23:00>>.

Now go to the shaft No. 3. There's a sniper shibito waiting by the trolley at
the end of the tunnel so sightjack it before going too far. Wait until it turns
away from the direction you're coming from, step out and shoot it. [Cut wire]
holding the trolley and [push trolley] from the other side of it. The trolley
will run over a sniper shibito near the gate to the custodian's shack. Now
the aim is updated once again: escape through near the custodian's shack.

Now get out of the tunnel. By now the sniper on the roof of siren shack has
woken up so shoot it again. It can't see you from the angle you're coming
from. Head to the direction of the custodian's shack. [Pick up] the <key to
gate> left by the sniper and [open door] with it. Descend the stairs and turn
left (you can't go inside the custodian's shack yet). Climb over the
collapsed structure and continue to the exit.

After a cutscene the <parish directory> is added to the archive.

Your first aim is to head towards shinto shrine with Tomoko. Take Tomoko with
you by saying [come here]. Run all the way to the patrol car (don't worry about
a couple of alerts, those shibitos won't move from their positions). There's a
house ahead around the corner. Sightjack the shibito patrolling around it.
When it goes behind the corner, go and sneak behind it. Don't be too close but
keep your distance. There's also a weeding shibito but as long as you don't
run it won't notice you.

After going around the house ascend the stone steps. You'll see a large rock up
ahead. Don't move an inch further but sightjack a shibito to the left from the
rock on the middle of the steps. When it turns away, run to the rock and climb
on it. [Pull up] Tomoko and make your way to the small shrine. There aim is
updated: go towards Hirasakai with Tomoko. [Pick up] a <fertility stone
fragment> near the shrine and [smash lock with stone] on the shrine. <<This
move will fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on Day 1
at 20:00>>. Now [hide] near the shrine even though you're not in danger. Tomoko
will find a rusty key which <<fullfills goals for mission objective 2 for
Tomoko Maeda on Day 1 at 17:00>>.

There's a Mizuhiruko shrine downhill. Sightjack the shibito hammering the wall
of it. Occasionally it will turn right and look up so be sure it's hammering
before jumping down. Go behind the shrine and move further. Climb on the stone
slab and [pull up] Tomoko. Keep going and until you've to drop down. There's a
sniper shibito to the left. Climb up the bank and [pull up] Tomoko. No matter
how sneaky you are the sniper will notice what you are doing and shoots at your
feet. You can't but leave Tomoko behind. Turn quickly around and head to the
exit.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 03:00 Janokubi valley
========================================

Mission objective: escape from Janokubi valley

Your first aim is to find something that can be used as a weapon. First of all
[pick up] a <flashlight> at your feet. Then make your way to the small shrine
and [pick up] a <phone card>. Now head to Miyata's car and [open trunk]. [Grab]
a <wrench> to be used as a weapon and [grab] a <distress flare> as well. The
aim is updated: cross the suspension bridge. It's guarded by a revolver
shibito at the end of it so you've to make a distraction.

Near the suspension bridge there's a barrell full of scrap material. [Light
flare] on it to make a beacon which will attract the revolver shibito from the
bridge towards it. Hide nearby and wait until the shibito has reached the
flaming scrap. Now cross the bridge and you get a new aim: turn on lights on
mountain hut.

There's a generator inside the ore processing plant. Enter the small room next
to the generator and [pick up] an <empty jerry can>. You need gasoline to start
the generator so head back to the car and [pump gas into can]. Now get back to
the generator and [fill it with gasoline]. Now [start the generator] to
fullfill the aim. Your new aim is to escape through Arato. The shibito armed
with a rifle blocking the way will be attracted by the light and moves from
its position towards it. Now you can run through the plant to the road to
Arato.

But before leaving turn left from the exit point and walk alognside the plant
until you see an opening. Enter the plant and drop down to the lower level.
Notice a <proposal for TV program> lying on the floor. You should see an
opening on the opposite wall. Outside there's a sniper shibito overseeing that
very exit though. Sightjack it. Now make some noise by walking on the
shattered glass lying at your feet and the shibito will notice you. Run to the
edge of the opening where the shibito can't shoot you. Sightjack it and soon
it will turn left towards the direction of sound you made. Now run to it and
pummel it to the ground. You should head straight to the steps you can see
across the stone bridge. There's another sniper standing at the stone bridge.
It's facing the other way so it's easy to deal with. Just sneak and attack
from behind. Also keep an eye on the shibito patrolling the area.

Get down the steps, go around the stone base and continue forward on a small
path until you get to the marker stone. [Push marker over] to <<fullfill
goals for mission objective 2 for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at 23:00>>. Now head
to the exit. All the shibitos should still be down so the way is clear.

ALTERNATIVE WAY TO THE STONE MARKER:

If the sniper at the bridge is giving you trouble when you try to reach the
stone marker, try the following strategy. [Insert] the phonecard into the pay
phone near the car to attract the bridge sniper from its post. Now go and hide
in the forest path (there's a shibito patrolling it so you have to take it out
first). When the sniper is at the phone booth wondering the beeping noise,
cross the bridge. Stick to the left side of the bridge until you come to the
steps down. There's a shibito patrolling near them so deal with it if you come
across it. Get down the steps, go around the stone base and continue forward on
a small path until you get to the marker stone. [Push marker over] to
<<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at 23:00>>.
Now get up the stairs and head towards the plant. There's a sniper shibito
guarding the plant so you have to sneak behind it and whack it down. Now make
your way through the plant to the exit.

RISA ONDA Day 1 04:00 Taburi, abandoned building

Mission objective: escape from abandoned building

The exit is guarded by a rifle toting shibito so your first aim is to find
something to use as a diversion. First go into the cottage and [open the
drawer] in the desk to see a <torn-out page from sketchbook>. Now find the dog
house and [pick up] a <kite twine> from there. [Pick up] a <spare key to siren
shack> behind the dog house to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for
Kei Makino on day 3 at 16:00>>. Now go behind the building and [switch on] the
circuit breaker on the wall. Keep an eye on the shibito patrolling around the
house. Make your way to the kitchen. Turn right and look towards the window.
[Open] the handle to an underfloor department and [push marker over] to
<<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at 23:00>>.
Now go and stand in front of the cupboard. [Tie kite string] to it and another
end of it to ventilator. [Turn on ventilator] to attract the shibito and get
out. Find a hinding place nearby so crouch behind a pile of sacks near the
cottage. A little cutscene will play and the shibito starts its way towards
the kitchen. You get a new aim: escape through the gate. Sightjack the sniper
shibito and when it's in the kitchen, run through the gate to exit the level.

KEI MAKINO Day 1 06:00 Arato, banks of the Mana river

Mission objective 2: find guide Hisako's veil

Go behind the cafeteria and [pick up] an <18-litre can> which wasn't there
earlier. Go to the shack between the barbershop and the Ishikawa house. The
shibito will once again fall to the ground so escape it the same way you did
earlier. Go back to shack and [use] the can as a stepping stone to get to the
roof of it to get the veil.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 07:00 Arato, banks of the Mana river
=======================================================

Mission objective: reach upper waters of river with Risa Onda

These are very familiar surroundings by now but now the direction is reversed.
Your aim is to head to upstream with Risa, in other words to the spot where Kei
Makino started his mission. You start at the bus stop. I advice you to deal
with the first shibito in sight so that it can't harm you later. Now crouch
past the weeding shibito to the back alley of the cafeteria. Go out to the
street from the spot Kei entered the back alley. By the opening there's a
garbage can. [Pick up] a <hammer> from there to <<fullfill goals for mission
objective 2 for Kei Makino on Day 3 at 16:00>>. Equip the hammer as your weapon
because it's faster and more powerful than the wrench. By now a shibito should
have noticed so hammer it down.

Now cross the street and notice <Hanuda town hall news> in the mailbox outside
Rokkaku's house. Sneak alongside the fence to the right and sightjack the
sniper shibito on the nearby roof. When it's facing away, climb to the roof and
hammer the shibito. Get down and head to the partially opened door behind the
Rokkaku's house. Ask Risa to [go inside] Rokkaku's house to <<fullfill goals
for mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 20:00>>. Now head to the
front door of Rokkaku's house and ask Risa to [come here]. She will open the
door and come out. Now descend the steps down to the river and head to the
exit.

AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 08:00 Gojaku Peak, Misumi trail

Mission objective 2: reach road to Dousojin stone

Do everything you did earlier except for finding the <Kamoshira diary> and
going into the Shaft no. 5. Everything else is elementary. Now the custodian's
shack is open but before entering it shoot the shibito near it. Inside [pick
up] a <rotten-handed pickaxe> and look at the <commerative group photo> on the
table.

Outside all the shibitos you've dealt with including the sniper hit by the
trolley have woken up. The sniper has taken a new position behind the trolleys
so be careful with it. Slowly crouch your way towards it by the track but near
the wall. You can go very close to it without it noticing you. Better to shoot
it because you're going to make some noise by shooting the other shibitos
nearby. So don't go to the opening yet but clear the area. The trickiest is the
familiar sniper on the roof of the siren shack. Sightjack it and when it turns
away from your direction, step out and shoot it.

Now head to the Dousojin stone. It's behind a locked gate so [smash the lock]
with the pickaxe. Climb up the bank and head forward to exit the level.

NAOKO MIHAMA Day 1 19:00 Gojaku peak, Jakobey pass

Mission objective: reach road to Janokubi valley

You start the level where Akira exited the last. Your first aim is to find the
key the shibito is looking for. So run to the Shaft No. 3 avoiding all the
wandering shibitos. There's little point sneaking around because there are so
many of them. When you reach the shaft, switch off the flashlight. If there's
some shibito following you, don't worry because it won't chase you all the way
to the tunnel. Just be patient and it will leave. At the end of the tunnel
there's a shibito with a flashlight looking for the key. Wait until it turns
away and sneak to the left and [pick up] the <key to the custodian's shack>.
The aim is updated: now you have to find a weapon. Turn around and run to the
custodian's shack avoiding the shibitos. It's a good idea to run alongside the
trolleys on their left side on the road leading to the gate.

There's a shibito patrolling nearby the shack so wait for an opportunity to
reach the door. [Unlock door] and enter the shack and [pick up] a <revolver>
from the table. Your next aim is to head towards Janokubi valley from Tunnel
No. 1. Outside the shack shoot the patrolling shibito and ascend the stairs.
Take out the next shibito and head to the siren shack. The exit from the level
is guarded by a nasty sniper shibito so you need get it out of the tunnel first
so [set off] the siren in the siren shack and all the shibitos start wandering
towards the noise. Now is good time to slip into the Shaft No. 3 again. Run to
the end of it and [open school bag] to obtain <library card> to <<fullfill
goals for mission objective 2 for Naoko Mihama on Day 1 at 22:00>>. A
<triangle> will drop from the bag too so collect it to the archive. Now go to
the Tunnel No. 1 but before going up, see <Akira Shimura's hunting licence>
next to the wall directly below the Tunnel No. 1 entrance on the ground level.
Sightjack the sniper and be sure it has left its post. Now head all the way to
the end of the tunnel.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 20:00 Hirunotsuka, spring at Mizuhiroku shrine

Mission objective: drive away Shibito Brain

You start by the red pool. Your first aim is to find and replenish ammunition.
It can be found from the patrol car. Take Yoriko with you by saying [come
here] and head to the Mizuhiruko shrine. Face the door and [pick a fortune] to
add a <paper fortune from Mizihiroku shrine> to the archive. Now make your way
to the car and shoot all the fast, creepy crawling shibitos you may encounter.
[Get in the car] and look left. [Take bullets] and [get out of the car].

The aim is updated to defeat Shibito brain. Usually it runs on the road the
car is located on but before hunting it down head to the cave. [Hide] inside
it, [lock the door] and then [unlock the door] so that Yoriko will find a piece
of cloth to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on day 2 at
20:00>>. Enter the house and find a <premier issue of Atlantis magazine> from
the floor.

Now sightjack the Shibito brain to see where it's hiding and hunt it down. When
you see it, shoot it immediately. It should take three or four shots to get it
down. You may have to run after the brain as it can be elusive. The Shibito
brain is usually guarded by those crawling freaks so deal with them first if
needed.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 02:00 Harayadori, Yabay settlement
=======================================================

Mission objective 2: listen to in-school announcement while on the top of fire
tower

THE SLOW WAY:

There's a time limit of five minutes to complete the mission objective 2 so be
quick. Don't take Yoriko with you this time. First sightjack the sniper shibito
on the roof of Takaya's house. Take the same path as earlier towards the wooden
bridge. On the way there's a new shibito with a revolver. Sneak past him (you
can shoot it to the back if you want) and cross the bridge.

If you think you can make it in time, you can <<fullfill goals for mission
objective 2 for Kei Maikino on Day 3 at 12:00>> and here's how to do it: go to
the cemetary and [pick up] a <key to the chain lock> from there. Now head to
the bottom of the river and find a protruding pipe (it can be seen on the map
even though it's not named on it). [Unlock] the padlock holding the valve and
[turn valve]. I strongly suggest you skip this part though and concentrate
strictly on your mission objective 2 as time is of essence. You can come back
to this level when you have acquired the stage select function (after
completing 19 missions) and open the pipe and then finish the level just by
completing mission objective 1 because it's easier that way.

Back to Tamon's mission objective 2 though. Find a shack behind the Kawasaki
house and climb on it. From there climb to the roof of Kawasaki house. Turn
left and crouch a bit further. Now turn towards Takaya's house and sightjack
the sniper. You don't want it to notice you when you jump on a little roof
between the houses. Immediately crouch and sightjack the sniper again. When
it's facing the other way, run to it and shoot it down. Now get down from
where you came, head to the fire tower (beware a revolver shibito guarding the
main road) and climb the ladders to the top it. If you made it in under five
minutes, you hear a plea for help from nearby school and complete the mission.

THE QUICK WAY:

First sightjack the rooftop sniper. When it has turned away from where you
start the stage, run accross the bridge to the fire tower. Deal with the
shibito nearby and take the ladders up to the fire tower. Go up step by step.
As soon as the sniper spots you, stop. The sniper will fire at you but don't
worry, it will miss. Wait until it has shot five times. It will start reloading
its rifle. Quickly get up the ladders and shoot the sniper (use the flashlight
for the better aim) before it can take aim at you. Mission accomplished.

as described above, replay the stage later accomplishing the first mission
objective.

REIKO TAKATO Day 1 02:00 Haruba elementary school, Oribe campus/library
=======================================================================

Mission objective: escape from the school with Harumi Yomoda

Your first aim is to go to the first floor faculty. Take Harumi with you by
saying [come here] and open the door to the corridor. [Set off alarm] to
attract the hammering shibito at the end of the corridor, turn around and
enter the spare classroom. Go through it to 5-6 grade classroom and from
there open the door to the corridor. Take the stairs down to the first
floor but pause at the middle of them to be sure the shibito patrolling
the first floor is facing away from the stairs. Now get down and enter
3-4 grade classroom to the right quickly. There's a pistol shibito watching
the corridor and you don't want to get its attention. Go through the
classroom to 1-2 grade classroom and ask Harumi to [hide] in the closet.
Now get out of the classroom from the right-side door and if you feel up to
it, notice <Harumi Yomoda’s drawing> on the wall in front of 3-4 grade
classroom. Enter the faculty and a cutscene will play.

Your new aim is to find an item to destroy the barricade blocking the
window through which you should escape. The item can be found from the
gymnasium so [pick up] a <key to gymnasium> from the corner table. If you hid
Harumi in the closet, at this point she will hand you four <candles>. This
will <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Reiko Takato on Day 1 at
23:00>>. Look at the <photo taken on school trip to Gojaku pass> on the
chalkboard and leave the faculty. Don't take Harumi with you.

Going to the gymnasium is not as easy as it sounds because of that revolver
toting shibito in the corridor. Exit the faculty and quickly enter 1-2 grade
classroom. The shibito will notice you and you want it to as it comes after
you. This way it turns away from the gymnasium door. Run to the left-side door
to exit the room and the door to the gymnasium should be right in front of
you. [Unlock] the door to gymnasium, open it and open the next door. The
revolver shibito may fire a shot or two after you but most likely it will
miss. Run diagonally to the right hand corner of the gymnasium to find steps
down. [Pick up] a <crowbar> to use as a weapon from the small room.

When you take the stairs back up, a little cutscene will play. Harumi is in
trouble and calls for help though the speaker. If the situation wasn't hard
enough already, the principal turned into a shibito, Eiji Nakashi, is waiting
for you in the gymnasium and your aim is to defeat him. Five hits of crowbar
will take him down. Easiest way to deal with Eiji is to climb onto the
stage. Everytime Eiji tries to climb there, give him a whack (thanks to
Michael Weaver for this Eiji trick). [Pick up] the <padlock key> by his body
and [unlock] the gymnasium door to escape.

Now you have to find Harumi. She can be found from various locations: Harumi
is either hiding in the last toilet in the ladies room or she's in the spare
classroom in the second floor. If there's a shibito patrolling near the
toilet area, you can be pretty sure Harumi is in the ladies room. Deal with
the shibito and check the toilet. If you however don't see a shibito near the
toilet area, Harumi is probably in the spare classroom. Besides these two
places Harumi can be hiding in other locations too. If you have troubles in
finding her, sightjacking a shibito may help you (Harumi is represented by a
light green cross). 

When you find Harumi, take her with you by saying [come here]. The girl now
safely with you, head back to the faculty room. The shibitos should be
wandering about in the class rooms so the corridor should be pretty safe.
Beware of Eiji though. He has probably woken up already and is searching for
you. It was a bit nasty surpise to find him once in the faculty! When the
faculty is cleared of any glooming danger, [force open] the window to exit
the level.

NOTE: Michael Weaver notes that When you need to hide Harumi, you can hide
her in any cleaning closet, including the one on the second floor. She will
appear in the faculty room anyway when you get there.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 07:00 Arato, near the bus stop
=================================================

Mission objective 2: acquire notebook

NOTE: You have had to put a soaked towel into the freezer in stage KEI MAKINO
Day 1 06:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Straighforward enough, the thing you want is under an arm of a police shibito
feasting in the cafeteria. Leave Risa behind and crouch past the weeding
shibito to the back alley of the cafeteria. Enter the backroom, [open the
freezer] and [pick up] the <frozen face towel> left there by Kei. Turn around
and notice two little tables with piggy bank on the top of the other one.
[Place face towel] between the tables and [put down piggy bank] on the towel.
Go and get the <hammer> from the garbage can and equip it. Take care of the
shibito nearby. I also suggest you take out the rifle shibito. By now the
frozen face towel should melt and the piggy bank will drop to the floor and
break. The feasting police shibito will investigate what happened and leaves
the table. Now open the front door of the cafeteria and enter it. Be sure
the shibito is facing away from you and move quietly. Look at the back wall
for the <recipe for Hanuda noodles> and the press X button by the table to
acquire <Kyoya Suda's student ID holder> to accomplish the mission.

NOTE: If you don't have the frozen face towel, there's still a way to deal
with the feasting police in the cafeteria and accomplish the objective. In
such case be sure there are no shibitos roaming in the streets first and that
the sniper is taken out. Now go to the front of the cafeteria and open the
door. The police shibito will raise from his table. Sidestep so that it
doesn't see you and [shout]. This should disturb the shibito's routines and
it starts going back and forth inside the cafeteria. When its back is to
you, run to it and hammer it down.

NAOKO MIHAMA Day 1 19:00 Gojaku peak, Jakobey pass
==================================================

Mission objective 2: reach road to Janokubi valley after defeating all shibito

NOTE: You have had to switch track at the end of the Shaft No. 5 in stage
AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 08:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the
objective.

The mission is the same as before but you have to temporarily stun all the
shibitos in the level before escaping it. Follow the previous instructions
until you have got the <revolver>. When you exit the custodian's shack, you
will hear a crashing sound. Turn around and you'll see the keybox has fallen
to the floor. [Pick up] the <key to Shaft No. 5 east>. Exit the shack and
shoot the shibito nearby. Ascend the stairs and take out the shibito who is
already coming at you. Head to the siren shack and enter it from the left side
(you don't want to get noticed by the shibito on the right side yet). [Set off]
the siren and exit the shack. Now shoot that shibito near it. [Unlock] the gate
to the Shaft No. 5 and run towards the trolley. Shoot the shibito near it and
then [push trolley]. The trolley will run over all the shibitos gathered to the
front yard attracted by the noise. Shoot those which might have survived the
trolley run (most likely the one coming from the Shaft No. 3). Be sure all the
shibitos are down by sightjacking them. If you don't see anything, run to the
Tunnel No. 1 and to the end of it to exit the level. 

KYOYA SUDA Day 1 02:08 Arato, banks of the Mana River

Mission objective 2: find letter

When Hisako goes to the front of cafeteria and hails you, ascend the steps and
turn right to the inner yard of Rokkaku's house. Climb to the top of the shack
and [pick up letter]. The <letter addressed to Risa Onda> is added to the
archive and the mission is accomplished.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 03:00 Janokubi valley
========================================

Mission objective 2: find nurse's shoes

The stage ends right after [picking up] the <dirty shoe> so it's just a matter
of finding it. A hooded shibito patrolling the stone steps area will hide the
shoe to one of the following locations:

1) To the bush to the right of the sniper who is guarding the opening on the
   plant wall.
2) To the bush near the river after getting down the stone steps.
3) To the bush near the stone steps behind the bridge.

Sightjack the hooded shibito and you'll be able to see where it hides the shoe.
If you attack it when it's still carrying the shoe you can't pick up the shoe.
In that case wait for it to recover and carry on with its mission to hide the
shoe.

If you didn't sightjack the shibito in time to see it hiding the shoe, don't
panic. While patrolling, the shibito will take a pause to take a look at the
bush where it hid the shoe so follow it through the sightjack.

RISA ONDA Day 1 22:00 Miyata clinic, ward 2
===========================================

Mission objective: warn Miyata and Makino of approaching enemies

Your dear sister wants to give you a hug... Kidding. Your first aim is to run
from Mina. Turn around quickly and run through the door ahead. Ascend the
stairs on the left and run to the door which is slighty ajar. [Squeeze through]
it and you get a new aim: head towards ward 1. Sightjack Mina (she's easy to
spot as she's the only shibito on two legs) and wait until she has returned to
her normal patrol route in the 1st floor. Now [squeeze through] the door back,
get downstairs and go to the storeroom to [pick up] an <umbrella> to use as a
weapon. Sightjack Mina and wait until she has passed room 102 and turned left
from there. Now sneak to the fire extenguisher in the corridor and wait for
Mina to come back and notice you. Before she reaches you, quickly [pull out
pin] of the fire extenguisher to blind Mina. Now go round her and attack her
from behind. Five heavy blows (press X hard) should do the job. Mina keeps
swinging her spade to the front of her so you're safe. With Mina down, all the
crawling shibitos are down too because she controls them.

Now get back to the 2nd floor and [squeeze through] the door again. Run to the
end of the corridor, turn left and open the doors connecting the wards. At the
ward 1 go to the storage right in front of you and see a <historical chronology
of the Miyata clinic> on the wheelchair. Now get down the stairs next to the
storage and [set off alarm] to the left of the stairs to accomplish the
mission.

ALTERNATIVE WAY:

If you don't want to fight Mina yet there's another way to deal with this
stage. Turn around quickly and run through the door ahead. Ascend the stairs
on the left and run to the door which is slighty ajar. [Squeeze through] it
and you get a new aim: head towards ward 1. Run to the room 203 (the one
without a door) while avoiding a crawling shibito in the corridor. Run to the
window and [open curtain]. Now [go outside]. Move on the sledge to the open
window. A cutscene shows Risa climbing inside. Immediately run out of the room
towards a door ahead avoiding two crawlers. Open the door and go through it to
the next door. Close it behind to block the crawlers. Go the storage right in
front of you and see a <historical chronology of the Miyata clinic> on the
wheelchair. Now get down the stairs next to the storage and [set off alarm]
to the left of the stairs to accomplish the mission.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 20:00 Hirunotsuka, spring at Mizuhiroku shrine
===================================================================

Mission objective 2: find item dropped by Yoriko Anno and drive away
                     Shibito Brain

NOTE: You have had to smash lock on the small shrine with fertility stone in
stage KEI MAKINO Day 1 12:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish
the objective.

The mission is identical to the first in that sense you have to drive the
Shibito brain away this time too. Before that you've to find Yoriko's item
though. You can leave Yoriko behind or take her with you, it's up to you.
First go to the car, [get in] it, [take bullets] and [get out of the car].
Beware of the flying shibito guarding the road near the car and shoot it down
as soon as you see it as it wields a gun. Next go to the stone cave and
examine it by pressing X. You get <Tamon Takeuchi's research notes> to the
archive. Now head to the small shrine and [smash lock] by shooting it. [Open
door] to find <Yoriko Anno's student ID>. Now find that Shibito brain. This
time it may be hiding in the Mizuhiroku shrine so drop down to it. Find the
brain and shoot it down. Also deal with any crawling shibitos you encounter.
There are many of them scattered around the level this time.

AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 16:00 Harayadori, watchtower

Mission objective: reach road to Hirunotsuka with Yoriko Anno

You start at the top of the watchtower and your first aim is to rescue
Yoriko from shibito. Immediately zoom and pick up Yoriko. A shibito will
approach her from her front. Shoot it and immediately move your aim
behind Yoriko to shoot another shibito. Now your aim is to meet up with
Yoriko.

Climb down and go between the watchtower and Takaya's house. Drop down,
go a few steps forward and turn left. Climb the bank up to the house and
notice a <postcard written by Yoriko Anno> in the mailbox. Drop back down
and head towards Nakajima's house. Climb up the bank to the house and go
around it from the right side. Climb another bank up to Yoshimura's house
where Yoriko is hiding. Shoot the shibito patrolling around. Go inside
the house to meet Yoriko. Now your aim is to head towards Hirunotsuka with
her.

Take Yoriko with you by saying [come here] and run to the storage shed.
There see a <villager's diary>. Now go between Kawasaki's house and
Takaya's house. Shoot the sniper on the roof of the latter by sidestepping
from behind the corner when the sniper is looking to other direction. Next
to a wooden platform in front of Kawasaki's house Yoriko will remark "it
looks like we can climb up here". Now ask her to [hide] and Yoriko will find
a photo from her hiding place. See NOTE below if you have troubles in
hiding Yoriko.

Ask Yoriko to [come here] and it's time to run back to Yoshimura's house
(deal with the shibito who has woken up already) and from there head to the
wooden bridge nearby. After crossing it, turn right and run towards the exit
point (watch out for a shibito climbing up from the ditch). The exit is
guarded by a sniper shibito and a little cutscene will play as you approach
it. Ask Yoriko to [act as decoy] as she suggests and she runs past the
shibito. Take the shooting stance and as soon as you see a glimpse of the
sniper, shoot it. Ask Yoriko to [come here] and exit the level.

NOTE: In order to hide Yoriko so that she'll find the photo, you need to play
TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 10:00 "defeat sniper" mission first. So if you got this
Akira's stage before it, just accomplish the stage (without trying to hide
Yoriko) and replay it later when you've completed Tamon's stage.

If you still have troubles in finding the photo by hiding Yoriko, just play
the stage through and try again later when you've progressed further in the
game. By that time you should get a hint at the beginning of the stage about
hiding Yoriko. At least now Yoriko should find the photo when hid in the
right place. It's suggested that you should have seen Kyoya's "heavy metal"
ending first before Yoriko can find the photo. You get the ending after
completing stage HARUMI YOMODA Day 3 00:00 The nest, level 1 for the first
time.

NOTE 2: When Yoriko finds the photo, the game tells it <<fullfills goals for
mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 20:00>>. That's not true.
There's no connection between the photo and that Kyoya's stage. In reality
the photo is needed to accomplish TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 10:00 "remember Akira
Shimura" mission.

REIKO TAKATO Day 1 02:00 Haruba elementary school, Oribe campus/library

Mission objective 2: unlock door to gymnasium fire exit from within, help
                     Harumi Yomoda escape from the school

The level is exactly as it was before apart from one tiny addition. After
defeating Eiji and [picking up] the padlock key besides him, go to the
catwalk of the gymnasium. Deal with the shibito coming at you from the
catwalk first and then take the ladders up. Run to the fire exit and pummel
the hammering shibito in the way. [Unlock door] and deal with the rest
of the level as before.

NAOKO MIHAMA Day 1 22:00 Haruba elementary school, Oribe campus/gymnasium
=========================================================================

Mission objective: escape from school

Your first aim is to move from gymnasium into school building. Get down of
the catwalk and if you can't run past two creepy spider shibitos around,
shoot them. Get out of the gymnasium and open the door to the corridor. Your
new aim is to acquire a key. The corridor is blocked by barricades so you
have to move from class room to another. Get upstairs and head to the supply
room at the end of the corridor. Shoot the spider shibitos in the way if you
can't avoid them. In the supply room [pick up] a <pair of compass>.

Now make your way back to the ground floor and go to the gymnasium store room.
Notice a <stargazer circle flyer> in the corner and at the other end of the
supply room [use compass] to get a <key to small storeroom> from under the
floor boarding. The storeroom is located near the stairway so run there.
[Unlock door] and go inside. Open the side door there to exit the level.
Again, keep an eye on Eiji wandering around.

RISA ONDA Day 1 04:00 Taburi, abandoned building

Mission objective 2: discover Mana cross

Short and sweet. Go behind the house and get to the roof by climbing onto
a wooden platform first and from there onto a shed. At the balcony [pick up]
a <trowel> left inside a planter. Now get down and head to the red pool. See
a tree in the north east corner of it and [dig] by it to discover the <Mana
cross medallion>.

AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 16:00 Harayadori, watchtower
=================================================

Mission objective 2: reach road to Hirunotsuka with Yoriko Anno
                     within 115 seconds

NOTE: You have had to shoot a shibito into the well in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI
Day 1 02:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.
Otherwise there's a shibito lurking near the watchtower rendering the mission
impossible.

Shoot both of the shibitos harrassing Yoriko fast and get down the watchtower.
When you reach the ground don't take the route described in the first mission
objective. Instead run towards the storage shed, go around it and take the
straight route to Yoshimura's house by running. As soon as you see a shibito
near the house, shoot it down. Get inside the house and command Yoriko to
[come here]. If the clock is around 1 minute now (a second or two under or
over), you're doing fine enough. Immediately get out, drop down the bank,
head to the little wooden bridge and cross it. Run all the way near to the
exit point. You should see a bridge and a shibito on it. Shoot it and then
continue. A little cutscene should play as earlier. Immediately command
Yoriko to [act as decoy] and take the shooting stance. As soon as you see
a glimpse of the exit guarding shibito in your sights, shoot! Now ask Yoriko
to [come here] and run to the exit.

After a depressing cutscene <umi-gaeri> is added to the archive.

TOMOKO MAEDA Day 1 17:00 Hirunotsuka, Mizuhiruko shrine
=======================================================

Mission objective: escape from Hirunotsuka

Your first aim is to get in patrol car. You start inside the Mizuhiruko shrine.
Turn around and [remove] a floor pank to find <Origins of Mizuhiruko shrine>.
Sighjack a shibito looking down at the shrine and when it turns away, get out.
There are an offertory box and a ceremonial bell at the porch. [Fling coins]
to scatter all the coins inside the box to the ground. Then [ring bell] to
attract a sniper shibito guarding the steps leading to the shrine. Hide behind
the left corner of the shrine and sightjack the sniper shibito. Watch it to
make its way to the coins and wait until it starts collecting them. Don't move
yet as there's another shibito coming up the stairs as well. Sightjack that
shibito and wait until it has come up to the shrine. Now run past the shibitos
and go down the steps. At the end of them turn left and run to the patrol car.
[Get in car] and look left to see <Misumi Daily Gazette>. Now [toggle switch]
to set off the police siren and Tomoko will get out of the car. The next aim
is to escape to Harayadori. Run to the middle of the steps and see a pistol
shibito guarding the exit make its way to the car. When it's by the car, run
down the steps, turn right and head to the exit.

NOTE: You have had to find the <rusty key> by hiding near the small shrine
in stage KEI MAKINO Day 1 12:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to open the
offertory box.

ALTERNATIVE WAY:

If you think Tomoko should earn the tracksuit she's wearing and playing with
coins and bells are for sissies, here's a strategy for running girls. You
start inside the Mizuhiruko shrine. Turn around and [remove] a floor pank to
find <Origins of Mizuhiruko shrine>. Now sightjack all the shibitos: the sniper
at the bottom of the steps leading to the shrine, the pistol shibito guarding
the exit of the level, the one on the patrol on the road and the other
patrolling higher grounds. Wait until the latter is looking away from the
shrine you're in and get out. Run down the steps past the sniper. It rotates
so slowly that it can't shoot after you. Quickly run to the patrol car, [get
in car] and look left to see <Misumi Daily Gazette>. Now [toggle switch] to
set off the police siren and Tomoko will get out of the car.

Now run inside the cave near the house and keep track of all the shibitos by
sightjacking. The sniper will go and stay at the patrol car for a while. The
pistol shibito will make its way towards the house after stopping by the car.
The one on the patrol armed with a rake will stutter behind the pistol shibito.
When the pistol shibito reaches the house, it will turn left and ascend the
stone steps. The one with the rake will go around the house. The pistol shibito
will come down the steps but goes up again.

Wait until the sniper returns to its original post at the steps. By that time
the one with the rake has gone around the house and will slowly return to the
road. Now get out of the cave and run past the rake shibito (the pistol shibito
will still be treading the steps so it doesn't see you). Run all the way to the
exit. The sniper won't notice you when you run past the steps it's guarding. 

KEI MAKINO Day 1 12:00 Hirunotsuka, Route 333
=============================================

Mission objective 2: find item dropped by Tomoko and reach road to Hirasakai

Follow the walkthrough for the level right to the end but don't exit the level
yet. Be sure the sniper shibito near you don't see you and sightjack a shibito
who is making its way to the Mizuhiruko shrine. It will hide Tomoko's item
inside a room and lock the door. Take down the code it uses to open the lock.
Now make your way to the Mizuhiruko shrine. The shibito you watched has taken a
position at the gate at the top of the steps leading to the shrine. Sneak
around the shrine to the locked door and [unlock door] with the code you saw.
Inside [pick up] <Tomoko Maeda's student ID>. Get out and sneak past the house
as quietly as you came in. Head to the exit. Be sneaky behind the rifle shibito
near the exit so that it won't notice you when you climb up the bank towards
the exit.

After a cutscene a <note left by Tomoko Maeda> is added to the archive.  

KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00 Karuwari, Cutfell way

Mission objective 2: find grave of Takeuchi family

You don't have to get Miyako with you at all this time so leave her to the
starting point. Get the poker, smash the iron fence and go to the crossroads
to the left of which there's the abandoned fuel track and to the right the
broken bridge and the sniper shibito. Deal with all the nearby shibitos
including the sniper. Sightjack it and when it starts its route towards
the broken bridge, run to attack it. Drop down to the bank where the hoeing
shibito were and you should see a suspicious bush nearby. [Clear brushwood]
to reveal a path to the sluice gate. [Close floodgate] to <<fullfill goals
for mission objective 2 for Tomoko Maeda on Day 2 at 06:00>>.

Now make your way all the way towards the abandoned storeroom. Jump down
from the wooden bridge to the left to the now dry river bed. Continue
until you see a stone steps. Ascend them and notice <The Takeuchi
Monographs: Notes on the Kajiro Family> lying among litter. Next to it
there's a grave. Press X by it to accomplish the mission.

TOMOKO MAEDA Day 1 17:00 Hirunotsuka, Mizuhiruko shrine
=======================================================

Mission objective 2: escape from Hirunotsuka within 1 minute 55 seconds

The mission is exactly the same as before but you have to do it quickly.
First wait 10 seconds before opening the door. In that time the shibito
looking down at the shrine you're in has turned away and won't spoil the
mission by dropping down and harrassing you. Quickly [ring bell] and
[fling coins] at the porch. Hide behind the left corner of the shrine and
sightjack two shibitos: the sniper shibito attracted by the noise and a
patrolling shibito near the patrol car whose route leads up the stairs
to the shrine. The sniper shibito will make it first to the coins but
don't move yet. Wait until that other shibito has come up too. The clock
should be around 1 minute now. Run past the shibitos down the steps and
to the car. Quickly [get in car] and [toggle switch]. Run to the steps,
not too far though and look down to the road. Watch the exit-guarding
revolver shibito approach the car and run past it as soon as it has passed
the steps. It will probably see you and shoot at you but it missed
everytime I played the level. Run all the way to the exit. If you didn't
make it in time, polish your performance to plane off some seconds.

REIKO TAKATO Day 1 23:00 Karuwari, abandoned storehouse
=======================================================

After a cutscene a <weekly magazine Shintokumaru> is added to the archive.

Mission objective: help Harumi Yomoda escape from Karuwari

Your first aim is to get past the iron fence. First [pick up] a <lighter>
from inside the storehouse and take Harumi with you by saying [come here].
Now head to the iron fence and when you go through it, the aim is updated to
head to Taburi settlement. There's a tombstone next to the iron fence. Look at
it and a <hymn book> is added to the archive. Go ahead and drop down to the
now dry red river from an opening in the fence. Turn right, walk to the fallen
tree trunk and [pick up] a <key to abandoned car> underneath it. Get up and
head towards the steps leading to the church gate. Now head to the abandoned
car. Don't step too close to the cart to the left of the crossroad as it will
trigger a cutscene leading to the events ending the level. There's still
stuff to do before it. At the abandoned car [unlock car] and [get in car].
While inside, look left and [pick up] a <cassette tape> to <<fullfill goals
for mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on Day 3 at 22:00>> and [release
hand brake] to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Tomoko Maeda on
Day 2 at 06:00>>.

Now go to the cart and the cutscene will play. Reiko hides Harumi in the cart
but it's taken by a horde of shibitos. Your aim is now to attract attention
of shibito and rescue Harumi. Quickly go to the rear end of the fuel truck
and [open valve]. Now go to the car window on the driver's side (remember,
Japan has a reversed traffic) and [honk horn] to attract the shibitos. Run
back to the rear end and [use lighter] to light up the gasoline resulting in
an explosion taking away both the shibitos and Reiko. What a way to accomplish
the mission...

ALTERNATIVE WAY by Fluffy Vampire:

Instead of having Harumi follow you around the level, tell her to [hide!] at
the start and she will go hiding inside the abandoned storehouse. [Pick up] the
lighter and leave. Go down the trail (not the trail Kyoya took to turn the
stone) and when you get to the end, turn around and go up the main trail (the
wider one) and follow it until you reach the mountain wall. Follow it to the
left.

After following the trail, you should see a shibito walking around with a
flashlight. Crouch and wait until it moves in the other direction and continue
onwards. Pass through the gate, go down the path and jump down into the empty
river creek to [pick up] a <key to abandoned car>. Keep your flashlight off as
it will attract the attention of the shibito walking around on the other side.
Crawl back up on the bank and continue on the way to the church.

When you get to the crossroads, run down to the adandoned truck, [unlock car]
and [get in car]. [Pick up] a <cassette tape> and [release hand brake]. Follow
the truck and cross over it but beware of the praying shibito standing in front
of the lantern. Sneak behind it and thrash it a few times. Run down to the
storehouse and get Harumi with you. Head back past the shibito, walk over the
truck and follow the road upwards, keeping to the right side of the road until
you get a little cutscene.

Reiko hides Harumi inside the cart but it's taken by a horde of shibitos.
Quickly go to the rear end of the fuel truck and [open valve]. Now go to the
car window on the driver's side (remember,Japan has a reversed traffic) and
[honk horn] to attract the shibitos. Run back to the rear end and [use lighter]
to light up  the gasoline resulting in an explosion taking away both the
shibitos and Reiko.

NOTE: You can use this alternative way with light the lanters mission as well.

REIKO TAKATO Day 1 23:00 Karuwari, abandoned storehouse

Mission objective 2: light lanters in order and help Harumi Yomoda escape
                     from Karuwari

NOTE: You have had to push stone markers over in stages KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00,
AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 08:00, SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 03:00 and RISA ONDA Day 1 04:00
during mission objectives 1 or 2 as well as hide Harumi in the closet in the
1-2 grade classroom in stage REIKO TAKATO Day 1 02:00 during mission objective
1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Do everything you did before but along the way light the stone lanters
in the right order. First [light lantern] D near the iron fence, then
lantern A next to the church gate, after that lantern B to the right of the
abandoner car (drop down to the bank through an opening in the fence to
reach it) and finally lantern C (use the abandoned car after releasing its
hand brake as a bridge to reach it). A <Book of Deliverance - Kiruden> is
added to the archive and <<goals for mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on
Day 3 at 23:00 are fullfilled>>. Now finish the level as before.

RISA ONDA Day 1 22:00 Miyata clinic, ward 2

Mission objective 2: find angel statuette

Deal with Mina like before but instead of going to the 2nd floor, run past
the door 101 to the door leading outside. Open it and cross the courtyard
to the garbage chute. [Open] it to <<fullfill goals for mission objective
2 for Shiro Miyata on Day 2 at 00:00>>. Now run to the room 101 while Mina
is still unconscious and [take sheet] from the bed to reveal <sculptural
relief of angels>.

After a cutscene <Naoko Mihama's junior high yearbook> is added to the archive.

NAOKO MIHAMA Day 1 22:00 Haruba elementary school, Oribe campus/gymnasium

Mission objective 2: find book of Hanuda folk tales and escape from school

NOTE: You have had to get the <library card> from the school bag at the end
of the shaft no. 3 in stage NAOKO MIHAMA Day 1 19:00 during mission objective
1 to accomplish the objective.

Just a little diversion to the previous venture into the school with Naoko.
Before or after going into the supply room to acquire the <pair of compass>,
visit the library and [get book] from the shelf on the back wall to get
<Hanuda folk tales> to the archive. There are lot more crawlers around this
time though and that, my friend, can give some serious headache. So when you
reach the 2nd floor, find Eiji first (he should be wandering in the
classrooms) and shoot him down. All the crawlers will be down too as Eiji
was controlling them as a shibito brain! Now you have a lot more freedom
so go and get that book from the library and the compass from the supply
room and finish the stage as before.

After a cutscene a <Book of Deliverance the Good Tiding> is added to the
archive.

5.2 DAY 2
---------

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 01:00 Tabori, inside the abandoned building
============================================================

Mission objective: escape from the abandoned house with Miyako Kajiro

Your first aim is to find a submerged key. Take Miyako with you by saying
[come here!] and go to the storeroom. [Unlock door] with <key to storeroom>.
Inside a floor plank will crumble. Go to the back of storeroom and Miyako
will come inside. A little cutscene will play and <<goals for mission
objective 2 for Harumi Yomoda on Day 2 at 15:00 are fullfilled>>.

Go back to the room you started from and enter the next room with a TV set
inside. Open the door to the corridor and take care of the shibito
patrolling the corridor. There's also a revolver shibito right behind the
wall. [Shout] to catch its attention and when it comes at you, hit it with
the poker until it's stunned. There's also another way to deal with it.
Sightjack it and you see it will go into a room behind the corner. Go to
the corridor and wait until it comes out. Now put some poker between its
ribs. 

Tell Miyako to [wait] and head to the bath. [Pull chain] by the bathtub
and [pick up] a <key to desk drawer>. The aim is updated to open the drawer.
Go back to Miyako and ask her to [come here] and get upstairs. Go into the
boarder's room and [open drawer]. [Pick up] the <pliers>. The aim is updated
once again: open up the altar so head back to downstairs. The corridor
patrolling shibito has woken up by now so take it down again. Go to the room
with a Buddhist altar and [cut wire] holding it closed. [Open] the altar and
<idol found in Buddhist altar> is added to the archive. [Pick up] the <rusty
key> hanging from the frame. A shibito will emerge beneath the floor and your
aim is to defeat it and escape through underneath. The shibito is fast to
swing its weapon so be faster with yours! After defeating it, take a look at
the hole the shibito left to the floor to add a <Misumi Daily Gazette> to the
archive. Now [leave house] via the hole.

Your new aim is to escape through gate with Miyako. Outside there's a shibito
patrolling so avoid it and go to the storage. [Unlock door] and [pick up] a
<sake bottle> from the shelf inside to <<fullfill goals for mission objective
2 for Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 07:00>>. The revolver shibito will soon make its
route past the storage. Before it arrives, run to the point where you ended
up after leaving the house. Head towards the red pool and see a <midnight
pimpernel> by the left side of it. Take a few steps back behind the corner
of the house and sightjack the revolver shibito to be sure it's still on the
right side of the house. When the way is clear, run to the gate to exit the
level.

NOTE: You have had to get the <key> by the phone on the desk of tobacconist
in stage KYOYA SUDA Day 1 02:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to be able
to open the storeroom in the beginning of the stage.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 10:00 Janokubi valley, the bridge of return
================================================================

Mission objective: defeat sniper

Your first aim is to make suspension bridge impassable. Go to the bridge by
ascending the steps and shoot down a flying shibito. Now go to the ore
processing plant and run by it to the suspension bridge. You see a <jerry
can> there. [Sprinkle gasoline] and get a couple of steps to the bridge to
[set fire to gasoline]. Now the bridge is burning and your aim is to defeat
the sniper.

Return to the stone bridge and take down that flying shibito if it has woken
up. Don't cross the bridge yet but sightjack the sniper who is positioned near
the phone booth. When he has turned away from the direction you're coming from,
run to him and shoot him a few times. Even though one shot is enough to drive
him away, keep shooting him as it makes killing him later easier.

The sniper will flee to the woods. Another flier will emerge up ahead so
shoot it down. Before going after the sniper into the woods, find <marks on
railing> to the archive. Young Tamon scribbled them to the fifth railing
starting from the direction of the plant on the left side of the bridge.

Now go after the sniper. Sightjack him and you can see he has taken a new
position near the scrap material barrel. Take the little path to the small
shrine and [pick up] a <hose> behind it to <<fullfill goals for mission
objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on day 2 at 18:00>>. When you approach the
point where the paths cross, stop and sightjack the sniper to wait for a
right moment to come out and attack him. Remember to reload your gun first.
When the moment arrives, run to him and shoot him a few times. The more you
pumped lead to him on the bridge, the less hits you need now to kill him.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 10:00 Janokubi valley, the bridge of return

Mission objective 2: remember Akira Shimura

If you asked Yoriko to hide inside Kawasaki house in stage AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1
16:00 Harayadori, watchtower, a <faded photo of Akira Shimura> will be added
to the archive after the level opening cutscene. Simply play the stage through
according to the walkthrough for the mission objective 1 and when you have
shot Akira, the end of stage cutscene will be different. Tamon will recognize
the sniper as Akira Shimura.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 18:00 Miyata clinic, ward 2, 1st floor entrance
====================================================================

Mission objective: pick up Yoriko Anno's trail

Your first aim is to find a key to the inner courtyard. Turn left, run to the
end of the corridor while avoiding the crawling shibito and open the door
(close it behind to block the shibito's way). Get up the stairs to the ward 2
in the 2nd floor. Open the door in front of you and go through the next door.
Continue to the left and when you open the next door, a crawling shibito will
jump down from the roof. Shoot it. You're in the ward 1 now. Turn right and
run right to the end of the corridor. Get down the stairs to the ward 1 in
the 1st floor. Turn left and open the door to the stairway. Get down to the
basement (watch out for the crawling shibito) and go to the equipment room.
There [pick up] <forceps>.

Go back to the ward 1 in the 2nd floor (by taking two stairways up), turn right
and run to the end of the corridor. Turn right and open the door to the
isolation ward. There go to the last isolation room. Inside [break chain] and
[pick up] a <key to inner courtyard>. The aim is updated to infiltrate a
hidden room in the basement. Before leaving the room look at the <graffiti
found on hospital wall>. Now make your way back all the way to the ward 2 in
the 1st floor.

After descending the stairs there you see a door in front of you. [Unlock
door] with the key to inner courtyard. Open the door, enter the courtyard and
close the door behind so that the crawling shibito won't follow you out. Head
to the stone statue (watch out for the crawling shibito) and get down from the

the gun. Open the door and after a cutscene Mina will attack you. Shoot her
five times and after she has collapsed, press X near Yoriko's glasses on the
table to finish the stage.

TOMOKO MAEDA Day 2 06:00 Karuwari, Tanada

Mission objective: reach road to church

Your first aim is to get past the iron fence. You start at the abandoned
storehouse. Go to the little wooden bridge, drop down to the dry river and
reach the drain pipe to see <devotional painting - Advent of Angels> for the
archive. Now head to the iron fence. Don't mind the shibitos, Naoko or the
shibito brain. None of them will harm you. Strange, isn't it...

After passing the iron fence your aim is updated to head towards the church.
[Pick up] a <toy monkey> by the tombstone near the gate to <<fullfill goals
for mission objective 2 for Harumi Yomoda on Day 3 at 00:00>>. Continue
towards the church and soon you'll see the bridge over the river is broken.
No problem as there's a tree to the right. [Fell old tree] to be used as a
bridge and head to the church gate. Go through it to accomplish the objective
and to see yet another depressing cutscene. Sob, poor Tomoko...

TOMOKO MAEDA Day 2 06:00 Karuwari, Tanada
=========================================

Mission objective 2: reach road to church without being discovered shibito

NOTE: You have had to release the hand brake of the abandoned car in stage
REIKO TAKATO Day 1 23:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish
the objective.

This has to be the most simple mission in the game. From the start point, turn
right and cross the river using the abandoned car as a bridge. While on the
top of the car, look behind to the right and press X to add a <Tsuchinoko
reward poster> to the archive. If you have troubles finding it, just turn to
every direction pressing X. Now head towards the steps leading to the church
gate but stop before going too far. The gate is guarded by a crawling shibito.
Sightjack it and wait until it turns away from the direction you're coming
from and is about to go to guard the other steps. Now run past it to the church
without being detected.

If you however have troubles being undetected, there's a scooter lying on one
of the banks you can use to diverse the shibitos. After crossing the river
using the abandoned car as a bridge, continue on the road and turn left after
the first street lamp. Continue forward and and you'll see the scooter lying on
the bank. [Toggle switch] to start its engine and retreat back to the road. Any
shibito nearby including Naoko wherever she might be will be attracted by its
engine noise. It doesn't however attract the crawler guarding the church gate
so the whole scooter trick is there more just for fun.

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 01:00 Tabori, inside the abandoned building

Mission objective 2: find scythe embedded in wall

NOTE: You have had to get the <screwdriver> from behind the abandoned car in
stage KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish
the objective.

Get out of the house like before (you don't have to go the storeroom anymore if
you visited it earlier). When outside viewjack the two shibitos patrolling
round the house; the one with a knife and another with a pistol. Wait for the
right moment to sneak to the circuit breaker on the back wall of the cottage.
[Remove casing] (with the screwdriver) and [switch off] the lights in the
cottage. Hide behind the pile of sacks, sightjack the shibito coming out of the
cottage and wait until it has gone away. Now go to the cottage to accomplish
the mission.

After a cutscene a <legend of princess Konohana> is added to the archive.

HARUMI YOMODA Day 2 15:00 Tabori/living room, abandoned house
=============================================================

Mission objective: escape from abandoned house

The most interesting stage in the game so far. You're hiding inside a closet in
the living room where Maeda family is living happily ever after. Your first aim
is to acquire a key in the kitchen. Viewjack the whole Maeda family: daddy,
mommy and Tomoko. You can see they all have their daily routines after getting
up from the dinner table. It's important to know them all:

After having his dinner daddy Maeda goes to the Buddhist altar, apparently to
thank his God for the dinner. After that he goes to the parlour to take a
relaxing cigarette break. From there he makes his way to the toilet. After
doing his stuff there he starts his routines again by going to the altar.

Mommy Maeda takes a tour in the corridor. First she goes to the storeroom door
but soon returns to the living room to watch some white noise from TV. Then she
goes to the kitchen. She opens the padlock on the kitchen door, leaves the key
to the shelf and goes to do some chopping on the chopping board. After that
she gets out of the kitchen, locks it up again and goes to the front door
staring it fow a while. Then she starts her patrol again.

After the dinner Tomoko kneels before the stairs leading up and doodles on the
floor. Soon she will get upstairs and do some doodling on the floor near her
room. After that she gets up, opens the door to her room and goes to the desk
to do some more creative doodles. Soon she will return to the bottom of the
stairs again and starts drawing there.

Wait until mommy Maeda is in the kitchen. Now [go out] of the closet, take a
look at <graffitti engraved into table> and sneak to the kitchen to [pick up]
the <key to red padlock> from the shelf. Be sure she's chopping so that she
won't notice your little theft. The aim is updated to find escape route on the
2nd floor. Sneak out of the kitchen and go to the middle of the stairs leading
to the 2nd floor. Wait until Tomoko goes to her room and sits by her desk. Now
ascend the stairs and open the door to the boarder's room. Don't go there but
sneak past Tomoko's room to the bedroom door. [Unlock] it and you get a new
aim: escape through the gate. Before doing that there are a couple of items
you should collect first.

While at the bedroom door, turn around to face the corridor and [shout] to
catch Tomoko's attention. Quickly close the bedroom door in front of you and
[hide] in the closet. Sightjack Tomoko and you'll see that she comes to the
bedroom door, opens it and takes a look inside. Then she'll make her way to
the boarder's room you opened to investigate it (Tomoko might visit her room
on the way to but leaves it soon). Now [go out] of the closet and sightjack
Tomoko. When she's inside the boarder's room, run to Tomoko's room, [pick up]
a <toy monkey> from the floor to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for
Harumi Yomoda on Day 3 at 00:00>> and take a look at Tomoko's desk to see the
<Kamoshika notebook>. Quickly run out of the room back to the bedroom and get
out of the house via the balcony.

Drop down to the ground level and walk to the gate. It's important you walk
and don't run because you are going to need a pair of fresh legs soon. After
a few steps down the stone steps leading out of the settlement you meet a
familiar face in a cutscene. It's Reiko! But not as we used to know her...
After the play resumes, quickly turn around and start running. Go round the
house (starting from the left side) to the gate and Reiko shouldn't be able
to catch you. Mission accomplished.

FOR ADDED EXTRA TENSION:

If you want to add extra tension to getting the <toy monkey> and seeing the
<Kamoshika notebook> Tomoko is scribbling, do it while she's still in the room!
Sneak by crouching behind Tomoko and wait until she gets up from her desk. This
is really, really sneaky affair. You have to move as slowly as possible to the
right side of Tomoko when she's scribbling and crouch all the time. When Tomoko
gets up, she turns left and - if you're lucky or cunning enough - she won't
notice you. Tomoko leaves her room and you will be left locked inside. Look at
Tomoko's desk to add the notebook to the archive and pick up the <toy monkey>
from the floor. Wait behind the door for Tomoko to come back and sneak out.

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 20:00 Upper Arato, banks of Mana river
=======================================================

Mission objective: infiltrate the nest with Yoriko Anno

Your first aim is to make way through the cafeteria. Sightjack two snipers;
the one in the street in between the cafeteria and Rokkaku's house and the
other on the top of the firetower. There are two ways to deal with the
street sniper; the hard way or the sneaky way.

The hard way: say [come here] to Yoriko and advance to the bottom of the
stone steps leading to the village. Wait until a shibito sees you and
pummel it to the ground. Now get up the steps but stop behind the fence.
Sightjack the sniper shibito in the street and be sure it doesn't see you
yet. Take very small steps forward - every now and then switching to
sightjack - until the shibito starts shooting at you. If you were careful
enough, it won't hit you. After five shots it starts reloading its rifle.
Now run to it and hit (or shoot if you have the revolver) it to the ground.

The sneaky way: take Yoriko with you and deal with the first shibito as
described above but after ascending the stone steps turn right to the inner
yard of the Rokkaku's house. There climb onto the shed and from it up to the
nest. Don't use the flashlight as the street sniper could spot you. Soon
you'll see a gate shut with a rusty lock. You should hit it open with three
heavy poker blows. The problem is the street sniper can hear the banging
voice so time your strikes with thunder peals. Cool! Go through the gate
and continue the only way forward until you come to ladders. Take them down
to the side of the cafeteria. The sniper is behind the green fence and you
can see a glimpse of it through the opening on the fence. Wait until it
looks up ahead the street and either shoot it or run to it to poke it down. 

After dealing with the sniper enter the cafeteria via the front door and
open the door to the backroom. A shibito comes at you so deal with it. Get
out of the back door and the aim is updated: find route to the centre of
the nest.

Continue forward until you reach a dead end behind the rice shop (there's a
shibito working behind the corner). [Pick up] a <folding saw> from top of
a barrel. Go to the street using the alley between the cafeteria and the
rice shop and continue to the right past the tobacconist. See a <signpost
containing map of Arato> on the left side wall. Deal with the patrolling
shibito. When you reach the corner of the fence, sightjack the firetower
sniper. Be sure it's looking the other way and run straight ahead to the
little wooden platform (it's a grey little box in front of the barbershop
on the map). Climb on it and [pull up] Yoriko. Now take the ladders up.
At top there's some lumber blocking your way so [cut wood] to exit the
stage.

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 20:00 Upper Arato, banks of Mana river

Mission objective 2: create entryway for Harumi Yomoda

NOTE: You have had to ask Risa to go inside Rokkaku's house in stage SHIRO
MIYATA Day 1 07:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 and hide with Yoriko inside
the cave in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 20:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to
accomplish the objective. Also, even though not necessary to accomplish the
objective, it's recommended you get the <.38 calibre police-issue revolver> in
stage KYOYA SUDA Day 2 07:00 during mission objective 2.

Deal with the street sniper like you did before and enter Rokkaku's house via
the front door. There's a shibito inside so pummel it to the floor. Look at
the table to see <The Takeuchi Monographs: Sacred Beliefs of Hanuda> and open
the door to the bathroom. [Pick up] a <tool to open manhole cover> from there.
Now head through the cafeteria all the way to the point the firetower sniper
guards. When it's looking the other way, rush towards where the bus stop used
to be. There's a dead end near it with a manhole on the ground. [Open cover]
and [enter manhole]. In the sewers press X in front of the iron bars and
Yoriko will create an entryway for Harumi to enter the stage later.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 2 00:00 Miyata Clinic, Ward 1
==============================================

Mission objective: defeat Mina Onda

Newly shibitoed Risa will come and greet you in the beginning. Equip the hammer
as your weapon as it's more effective than the wrench. Three blows will take
her down - for the time being. She will be harrassing you all over the level
so everytime you happen to run to her, hammer her. Your first aim is to look
for a key inside dispensory.

But before that play little hide and seek with Risa. Deal with the crawler
outside the examination room and wait for Risa to come out of the room. Hammer
her down again and go back to the examination room. Close the door behind you.
Wait for Risa to recover and sightjack her. She will go into the laboratory.
Now run there, hammer her down and take a look at <patient's letter>.

Get out of the laboratory and go to the door right next to it. [Unlock from
inside] and head upstairs. [Push open door] at the end of the corridor and then
find your way into to the security office. [Pick up] a <fluorescent light bulb>
from the table and open the back door. A crawler is lurking behind it so pummel
it down. Before going to the ward 2, go and open the door connecting the
corridors.

Go to the first floor and open the door to the dispensory next to the stairway.
Inside [pick up] a <key to basement> and your new aim is to head to the
basement. Go back upstairs, head to the ward 1 and from there take the stairs
down. [Unlock door] to the basement right next to the stairway. While in the
basement, go into the storage and [pick up] a <key to 2nd floor men's toilet>.
Now that you have the key, you might as well head straight to the toilet and
[unlock door] to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi
on day 2 at 18:00>>.

Make your way back to the basement and go to the mortuary. You see a coffin.
[Remove nails] and [open coffin lid]. [Pull out stake] from the corpse to
<<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Kei Makino on day 3 at 16:00>>.
When you leave the room, the corpse will twitch. Don't mind about it but go
to the boiler room. Mina is there ready to insert her spade into your throat
so hammer her down to accomplish the mission.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 18:00 Miyata clinic, ward 2, 1st floor entrance

Mission objective 2: find album

NOTE: You have had to get the <hose> from behind the small shrine in stage
TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 10:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 and open the
2nd floor men's toilet in stage SHIRO MIYATA Day 2 00:00 during mission
objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Go to the men's toilet in the 2nd floor and [attach hose] to the tap next to
the toilet bowles. Go to the window which is slighty open and [lower hose].
Now go to the men's toilet in the 1st floor (by taking the stairway next to
the toilets) and there [pull hose] by the window. Go back to the 2nd floor
toilet and [turn on tap]. Rush down to the 1st floor toilet and [pick up] a
<key to 2nd floor of hospital ward no. 2> from the grating. Get upstairs again
and go through the door in front of you. [Unlock] the next door and shoot two
crawlers in the corridor. Go to the director's office at the end of the ward
first and [pick up] a <record player needle> from the record player on the
table to <<fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on Day 3
at 03:00>>. Now go to the reference library and [search] by the table. Tamon
will flip through an album and find a <photo from old album>.

After a cutscene a <boat of Utsubo> is added to the archive.

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 07:00 Janokubi valley, Orifushi forest
=======================================================

Mission objective: drive away shibito brain

Your first aim is to cross the bridge and find something to use a diversion.
Leave Miyako behind as it's the safest place for her to be. Cross the
suspension bridge and [pick up] a <lighter> lying on the ground when the view
switches to the bird's eyes. The aim is updated to light fire to attract
shibito's attention. Make a quick stint to the plant and [move barricade]
blocking the stairway to the left. Now make your way to the car. [Light
gasoline] by it and the fire will attract the nasty crawler guarding the
shibito brain in the forest. Take the leftside path to the forest and find
the brain. It's in the opening where Shiro started his first mission. The
brain will flee at your sight. Before going after it look for <Shiro Miyata's
driver's licence> on the ground (remember, this is the very spot where Shiro
started his first stage...). Now run after the brain. It will run all the way
to the plant and go down where you moved the barricade. The poor sod will be
trapped leaving it vulnerable to your poker blows. Beware the crawlers inside
the house though.

There are a couple of other archive items too but it's better to collect them
during the mission objective 2 as they will be handily along the way.

KYOYA SUDA Day 2 07:00 Janokubi valley, Orifushi forest
=======================================================

Mission objective 2: acquire .38 calibre police-issue revolver

NOTE: You have had to get the <sake bottle> from the storage in stage KYOYA
SUDA Day 2 01:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Again leave Miyako behind and go get the lighter. Now run to set the car into
fire as it will attract crawlers which otherwise could get in your way. Make
your way back to the plant and go to the room next to the generator where
Shiro found the jerry can. There's a crawler inside so poke it down. Look at
the shelf to add <the Kasutori Inquirer> to the archive and at the end of the
room [use poker] to fish out the <key for the electricity supply box>. Make
your way to the backside of the plant and get in from the opening. The power
distribution box is right next to the opening. [Unlock] it, [open door] and
[pull lever down]. Now get out and follow the path to the left which leads to
the red pool. A cutscene will play showing a flying police shibito.

Quickly retreat to the power distribution box and sightjack the police (keep
an eye on the opening too to see if any crawler comes inside). Wait until the
police leaves to patrol the stone bridge and run to the pool. [Break bottle]
by it to spill sake into the pool. Now run back to the box and sightjack the
police. Wait until it lands to drink from the pool and [pull lever up] to
electrocute the police. You see how it drops a revolver. Now go through the
plant to the front side of it and run to the pool. Along the way see <Naoko
Mihama's resume> by the barrels at the end of the plant. [Pick up] the <.38
calibre police-issue revolver> next to the stunned police to <<fullfill goals
for mission objective 2 for Kyoya Suda on Day 2 at 20:00>> and to accomplish
the mission.

HARUMI YOMODA Day 2 15:00 Tabori/living room, abandoned house

Mission objective 2: find beaded doll and escape from abandoned house

NOTE: You have had to lead Miyako into the storeroom in stage KYOYA SUDA Day
2 01:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Welcome back to the Osbourne household! This time there's one thing added to
the previous venture. When you reach the bedroom, hide in the closet to find a
<key to storeroom>. Follow the lives of Maeda family members and wait for the
right moment to sneak into the storeroom. When Tomoko is in her room, leave
the bedroom and head back to downstairs. Hide in the living room and wait
for mommy Maeda to go back into the kitchen. Tomoko should be upstairs again
by now. Sneak to the storeroom and [unlock door]. Inside press X by the broken
floor to find the <beaded doll>. Go back hiding into the living room closet
and wait again for Tomoko to go upstairs. When mommy Maeda is in the kitchen,
go to the middle of the stairs leading to the 2nd floor and wait for Tomoko
to go to her room. Now escape the house like before.

After a cutscene <Book of Deliverance Fruit of Vieda> is added to the archive.

SHIRO MIYATA Day 2 00:00 Miyata Clinic, Ward 1

Mission objective 2: acquire Uryen

NOTE: You have had to open the garbage chute in stage RISA ONDA Day 1 22:00
during mission objective 2 to accomplish the objective.

Deal with beginning of the stage just like before but [pick up] an <EEG
machine> from the laboratory. Now go get the <fluorescent light bulb> and
head to the garbage chute located at the ward 2 in the 2nd floor. Sightjack
a sniper shibito patrolling in the courtyard and [drop lightbulb] into the
garbage chute. Now sightjack the sniper to see it will be attracted by the
sound of shattering glass. When it sticks its head into the garbage chute,
[drop EEG machine] to knock it down. Now take the stairs down to the ward 2
in the 1st floor. The door leading to the courtyard is open. [Push stone
statue] in the middle of the courtyard and descend now revealed ladders.
Go to the basement and a corpse will hand you the <Uryen>.

NOTE: If you don't have the <EEG machine> you can deal with the sniper
shibito anyway. After dropping the light bulb into the chute the sniper will
be behind the door to the courtyard. Just run out and hammer the shibito down
before it notices you.

After a gruesome cutscene <medical notes written by Shiro Miyata> are added
to the archive.

5.3 DAY 3
---------

HARUMI YOMODA Day 3 00:00 The nest, level 1
===========================================

Mission objective: escape from the nest

Your first aim is to head towards the core of the nest. Run through the winding
passage until you see a garbage can. Beware of a shibito patrolling to the
left. Look at the garbage can to acquire <an introduction to Hanuda> for the
archive. Now go behing the can and crouch. Wait until the shibito comes out of
the passage and run there. [Crawl inside] a hole on the wall.

In the next area there's a crawl space on a green fence. Don't crawl inside
yet because there's a crawler behind it. [Shout] and the crawler will retreat
for a while. Now [crawl inside], take a couple of steps forward and quickly
switch on the flashlight to see a <diary written by Kajiro maid> on the ground.
Quickly go back through the hole before the crawler comes back. Now [crawl
inside] the next hole you see on side of a little shack.

You come at Kondo's house. Open the door, get inside, go past the bathroom
door and [unlock inner lock] at the end of the hall to <<fullfill goals for
mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on day 3 at 03:00>>. Get out of the
house and find the next hole to [crawl inside].

You see a house taken almost completely down. Get inside and [pick up] a
<bag o' laughs>. Its manic laughter will startle you but also attract a
shibito working behind the house. Drop down to the left and go past the green
fence to the opening (where the shibito would otherwise be), turn left and
you see another hole on the wall. [Crawl inside] and as you get out, [crawl
inside] yet another hole to the right.

Go a little further and there's another hole. Before crawling through it,
sightjack the crawler on the other side patrolling the area. Learn its
movement and when it goes to the red pool, [crawl inside] and run to the
bridge over the pool. The crawler will follow you to the bridge but it breaks
down under the creature so you're free to investigate the area. Go back to
the pool and find a slope to the left. Soon you'll see a hole on the wall to
the right so [crawl inside]. You arrive at some kind of courtyard. Get up the
stairs and follow a passage to the bridge to exit the level.

You'll see an ending movie of sorts but don't get startled. The game didn't
end in such a stupid manner the movies depict as there are still lots of
stages left to play. <The truth behind the Hanuda incident> is added to the
archive.

KEI MAKINO Day 3 12:00 Harayadori, Yabay settlement
===================================================

Mission objective: drive away shibito brain

Your first aim is to defeat the sniper. First visit Yoshimura's house to
find a <photo of twins> and look at the incinerator outside the same house
to find a <letter addressed to Tamon Takeuchi>. Now run to the storage shed
and sightjack all the important shibitos. You'll see that the shibito brain
is at the top of the fire tower and it's guarded by a sniper shibito on the
roof of Takaya's house. There's also a flying pistol shibito buzzing around
as well as some crawlers. Sounds like a tough stage to handle, eh? Wrong.
Approach Takaya's house starting from the shed and soon you'll see the sniper
in the mist. Get closer and shoot it. Now your aim is to defeat the shibito
brain who is already getting down from the fire tower which is right around
the corner. [Reload] your gun quickly and run to the tower. Shoot the brain
five times to accomplish the mission.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 3 03:00 The nest, near level 4
=================================================

After a cutscene <Tamon Takeuchi's organizer> is added to the archive.

Mission objective: arrive as Kyoya Suda at the gate to the nest's core

Your first aim is to find something to use as a tool. [Pick up] a <flashlight>
at your feet to the left. Sightjack a shibito nearby looking at a sign with a
telephone number: XX-4216. The passage out of the area is guarded by a revolver
shibito. Sightjack it and when it looks the other way, sneak to the Matsukawa's
shop to see an <aerial photo of Hanuda village> on the wall. Sightjack the
shibito again to wait for a right monet to sneak back. Now go to the clothe's
shop to [make a phone call]. Dial the number you saw. The phone in Matsukawa's
shop will rign and attract the revolver shibito to it. Wait until it has gone
inside the shop and run past the building. At the end of the passage climb
onto a platform and drop down from it. Continue as far as you can (don't take
any diversions during this mission objective) and climb onto a platform. Drop
down, get the stairs up and after a cutscene you take control of Kyoya.

His first aim is to find something to use as a weapon. Climb onto a platform
to the right, drop down and enter the garage. [Pick up] a <floor jack> and
return to the yard. Find a pick-up truck, [jack up car] and [crawl under
car]. After getting through the car, climb onto a platform, drop down to the
right and find the stairs up. [Open floodgates] to <<fullfill goals for
mission objective 2 for Tamon Takeuchi on Day 3 at 22:00>>.

Get back and go round the red pool. Follow the slope to the bank and get up.
You'll end up in a small graveyard. See the first grave to get a <brain cell
revival game> and [pick up] a <hunting rifle> from the next grave. Your aim is
updated to head for the centre of the nest. Get down and shoot the crawler if
it pesters you. Climb onto a wooden platform and from there climb up. Get the
stairs all the way up and turn left. Drop down, climb onto a platform, turn
around and leap over a gap. Get the stairs up and turn right. Take the ladders
up to a roof. There's a crawler waiting at the other end so shoot it. Now go
where the crawler was and aim up to the right. You'll see a stairs up and a
crawler going up and down them. Shoot it and get off the roof by going the
ladders down. Turn right and go through a door. Get the stairs up and follow
the corridor twisting and turning and ascendind and descending. Eventually
you'll end up at a door. Go through it, drop down to the yard and go round
the fence to accomplish the mission.

TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 3 03:00 The nest, near level 4
=================================================

Mission objective 2: penetrate gate to the nest's core as Kyoya Suda

NOTE: You have had to get the <record player needle> from the director's
office in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 18:00 during mission objective 2 and
unlock the inner lock of the backdoor at Kondo's house in stage HARUMI YOMODA
Day 3 00:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Follow Tamon's bit to the point where you drop down the platform after
diverting the revolver shibito. Go round the fence on the left and climb onto
a platform. Turn right and leap over a gap. Descend the ladders to the Kondo's
house and enter it. Sightjack a revolver shibito standing on a platform
guarding an exit outside the house. Go to the living room, see <Ellie Azuma
record> for the archive and [attach needle] to the record player. [Play
record] and hide inside the toilet. Attracted by the music, the revolver
shibito will make its way to the living room. Now go where it was guarding and
continue until a cutscene plays. The control will switch to Kyoya. Follow his
mission exactly as before and at the end Tamon will switch off the lights
making it possible for Kyoya to go inside the factory. A little cutscene will
commense. After it the screen will turn black. Just follow the green cross and
avoid the blue flashes to accomplish the mission.

HARUMI YOMODA Day 3 00:00 The nest, level 1
===========================================

Mission objective 2: reach central intersection

NOTE: You have had to get the <toy monkey> from the tombstone near the iron
fence in stage TOMOKO MAEDA Day 2 06:00 during mission objective 1 and steal
the very same <toy monkey> from Tomoko's room in stage HARUMI YOMODA Day 2
15:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Follow the walkthrough for the mission objective 1 right to the point where you
reach the courtyard almost at the end (and as you know, you don't have to pick
up the archive items if you got them in the first go). Open the door at the
bottom of the stairs and go into the bedroom. [Insert batteries] into a clock
on the drawer and [set it for 1 minute later]. Now go out and crouch under the
stairs. When the bell rings, Eiji Nakashi will come out of the room at the top
of the stairs attracted by the ringing sound. When he enters the room, get the
stairs up and enter the room where Eiji came from. Open the door and go out.
Keep going until you see a crawling space on the wall. [Crawl inside] and keep
going to accomplish the mission.

After a cruel cutscene a <will left by Kei Makino's stepfather> is added to
the archive.

KEI MAKINO Day 3 12:00 Harayadori, Yabay settlement

Mission objective 2: acquire explosives

NOTE: You have had to get the <rope> in stage KEI MAKINO Day 1 06:00 during
mission objective 1 and turn valve in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 02:00 during
mission objective 2 (or 1 later on) to accomplish the objective.

Deal with the sniper like before but don't harm the shibito brain. Instead
head to the well. If some crawler or flying shibito saw you on the way, deal
with them. Now [tie rope] to the well and [climb down well]. At the bottom
of the well, equip the hammer as your weapon. Get the ladders up and
immediately hit the shibito waiting for you at the top. [Open wooden box] to
accomplish the mission.

KEI MAKINO Day 3 16:00 Gojaku peak, Hanuda mine
===============================================

Mission objective: reach road to floodgates

Your first aim is to head towards the custodian shack so do it. Equip the
hammer as your weapon to save your bullets for the Onda sisters later in the
stage. Hammer any crawler you see and enter the custodian's shack. [Pick up]
a <spare key> and your aim is updated to head from the tunnel no. 1 to the
sluice gate. Get out of the house and see a <missing persons poster> next
to the stairs. Get the stairs up and [unlock door]. Now head to the tunnel
no. 5 dealing with any crawlers coming at you. When you reach the tunnel,
equip the pistol and shoot Risa when you see her. After three hits a
cutscene will play where Kei nails Risa to the ground with the stake. [Pick
up] a <spare key to siren shack> by her body. Now head to the tunnel no. 3
and shoot Mina. There's an explosive set up in the tunnel. [Connect wire]
and go to the siren shack. [unlock door] and [press switch] by the control
panel to set off the explosives. Be sure Mina is in the tunnel before pressing
the switch. She's the brain controlling all the others so when she gets under
the rubble in the tunnel no. 3, all the shibitos will be knocked down. Now
there's no shibito at the end of the tunnel no. 1 pushing a mine cart over
you. Before heading to the tunnel no. 1 to accomplish the mission, climb
the ladders to the roof of siren shack. Hit the strange symbol on the roof
with the hammer and a <skyfish> will drop from the sky.

NOTE: You have had to get the <spare key to Siren shack> in stage RISA ONDA
Day 1 04:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 to open the siren shack. You
have had to get the <stake> in stage SHIRO MIYATA Day 2 00:00 during mission
objective 1 or 2 and the <hammer> in stage SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 07:00 during
mission objective 1 or 2 to pin Risa to the ground. 

KEI MAKINO Day 3 16:00 Gojaku peak, Hanuda mine
===============================================

Mission objective 2: defeat all the shibito and reach road to floodgates

Just follow the walkthrough for the first mission objective as I used the
explosives there even though it wasn't necessary. The explosion will bury
Mina under the rubble and all the shibitos are knocked down as needed.

TAMON TAKUCHI Day 3 22:00 The nest, near level 3
================================================

Mission objective: find charred remains

Your aim is to head for the centre crossroads. Go forward and soon you'll meet
Naoko who has turned into a crawler. Defeat her (eight weak hits or four heavy
blows) and continue forward. Climb onto a platform, drop down, peek inside the
demolition service and see a <special issue of Atlantis magazine on the table>.
Get out and continue forward. Now you'll face Reiko. She's accompanied by a
crawler so it's better to retreat to the 2nd floor of the demolition service.
Wait for Reiko to follow you and hit her to the ground. Use only heavy blows
as she packs a nasty billhook. You can't defeat her with weak hits as she's
sure to kill you first. Four heavy blows will do the job nicely. Don't bother
picking up the <cassette> because it doesn't concern this mission objective.
No matter where you defeat Reiko, the game will continue from a yard. Head to
the dark alley to find a <burnt scrap of white coat>.

TAMON TAKUCHI Day 3 22:00 The nest, near level 3

Mission objective 2: reach Takeuchi residence

NOTE: You have had to get the <cassette tape> from the abandoned car in stage
REIKO TAKATO Day 1 23:00 during mission objective 1 or 2 and open the
floodgates as Kyoya in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 3 03:00 during mission
objective 1 or 2 to accomplish the objective.

Deal with Naoko and Reiko as before. But now [pick up] a <cassette tape> after
defeating Reiko. Go to the 2nd floor of the demolition service and [drop sign]
by the window. Get down and you'll see the sign has punched a hole to the
ground next to the fence outside. Drop down to the hole and follow the tunnel.
Deal with the crawler who comes at you from the red water. Continue a bit
further and you'll see two ladders on the right side wall. Sightjack the sniper
waiting for you at the bridge above you and get up the first ladders. Wait
until the sniper doesn't look directly at you and run to the yellow road sign
around the corner. [Tie tape] to it and go get down the ladders. You see the
cassette is lying on the water. [Pull tape] and Tamon will knock the road sign
over to attract the sniper shibito's attention away from its post. Sightjack
the shibito to be sure it has moved and climb up the second ladders. When you
get up, turn left, get up the platform and go through the door. Get the stairs
up and follow the route to the Takeuchi residence.

After a cutscene <Tamon Takeuchi's childhood diary> is added to the archive. 

KYOYA SUDA Day 3 23:00 Inferno
==============================

After a cutscene <devotional painting paradise> is added to the archive.

Mission objective: defeat Datatsushi

Immediately sightjack Jun Kajiro and after that take cover behind the nearest
pillar. Follow the red cross to track Jun's movement. When the cross fades,
sightjack him for a split second to get it lit again. This is a very important
strategy at this stage. You have to shoot him four times. Remember, you can
take only two hits from his rifle. There are three pillars forming a triangle.
Refer to the diagram below for advice. Jun will run between the farthest two
from you. Occasionally he will advance behind "your" pillar but when you take
a couple of steps back, he will retreat to his normal route. The best spot to
shoot him is when he runs between the pillars. See the red cross to anticipate
his moves, step out and take a shooting stance well in advance to the direction
where he's running to. When you see him in your sight, shoot (did I really need
to tell that...?). It's ideal if you can hit him before he goes hiding behind
the pillar. When he's behind one, he will peek from behind it so be alert.

Heldwin found a fast way to deal with Jun:

"I noticed the side of the pillar Jun Kajiro will appear and the way he will
react are not random but depend of some factors. At the beginning of the
mission, he will hide every time behind the same pillar. It's the one just in
front of you, just a little on your right.

If you are not too close, Jun will appear at the same side of the pillar you
are at to get a direct view on you. If you are too close, he will run to
another pillar and the pillar he will run to depends of the distance and the
side of the pillar you are at. 
 
With this in mind when you start, run to the direction of this pillar and you
will see Jun is running in front of you to hide behind it. The trick is to run
a little on the left of this pillar and stop when you think you are between
your start position and the pillar. If you are standing a little on the left,
Jun will appear on the left, then aim and wait until he appears (if you are
too close he will either appear on the right or run away to the next pillar
on your right). If you shoot Jun before he does it and if you didn't approach
him after he appeared, he shouldn't run away to the next pillar on your left
after getting shot but he will try to shoot you again. Then shoot him 4 times
in a row and you will end this part in about 1 minute."

When you have shot Jun four times, he will don a sword and come at you. Quickly
turn around and run. Just keep running until a cutscene will play showing how
Uryen in your inventory is activated and can now be used as a weapon. Keep
running for a while just to be sure Jun isn't right at your heels. Quickly
turn around to the direction Jun is coming from. Uryen has somewhat slow
animation so you have to anticipate. Hold R1 well in advance and hit X when
Jun is a couple of feets away from you. He will be caught in a pillar of
flame. [Pick up] the <Homuranagi> dropped by Jun.

Now it's time for the real boss, Datatsushi, as revived by Hisako. Sightjack
it immediately. You can see from which direction it's coming from by seeing
yourself from its point of view. Just turn to face it and anticipate and
activate Uryen like before. You can't see Datatsushi from normal point of view
as it's invisible. You need to hit Datatsushi three times with Uryen. After
each hit (or miss) just run to keep distance from it. It seems you can take
quite a lot damage here as Datatsushi can catch you between its claws many
times with no real harm.

NOTE: If you have troubles hitting Datatsushi, there's a way you can see it.
From sightjack you can also see Miyako standing next to you. Run to the
direction she's pointing at with her finger and eventually you'll come to a
pyramid. Run close enough to it and you can see your reflection from its
surface. It also reveals Datatshushi's reflection so you can use it to your
advantage when anticipating Datatshushi's position.

After a cutscene <Misumi Daily Gazette> is added to the archive.

KYOYA SUDA Day 3 23:00 Inferno
==============================

Mission objective 2: decapitate Datatsushi

NOTE: You have had to light the lanters in order D, A, B, C in stage REIKO
TAKATO Day 1 23:00 during mission objective 2 to accomplish the mission.

Deal with Jun just like before. As for Datatsushi, you need hit it only two
times with Uryen this time. After that equip Homunaragi and prepare to give
the finishing blow. Homunaragi needs to be charged before it's effective. See
from sightjack from which direction Datatsushi is coming from and quickly turn
to face it. Hold R1 down to charge the sword. When it's glowing, press X down
to deal a heavy blow. If you're skillful enough (or lucky), that's it! If not,
prepare to hit Datatsushi with the sword again.

Enjoy the final cutscenes and another issue of <Misumi Daily Gazette> is added
to the archive. After the final game save, time attack mode is activated.

6. Q & A
========

This section will grow to cover most frequenly asked questions about the game
and those tricky situations which might cause you to pull your hair out in
frustration. Send in your questions and answers to those situations which
have caused you most trouble. Most likely there are people who are stuck in
the same places and don't know what to do! I'll credit you for your
contributions, thanks.

Q: I can't progress any further! I just get link navigator and all I can do is
   access old levels. What I'm doing wrong?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: In that kind of situation there's a reason why you can access only old
   levels. You have to tie up all the loose ends you might have, meaning
   achieving goals for second mission objectives for different characters in
   different stages you might have previously missed. Eventually this will
   open new stages to play.

Q: What stage select? I don't have any stage select!
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Complete 19 missions and you will get an option to select levels more
   freely. If you haven't had 19 stages to play and seem to be stuck (no new
   stages to play), don't worry. Re-played levels (completing the same
   objectives twice or more) count towards 19 completed stages so you will get
   stage select no matter what. Stage select option is handy in situations
   described in the previous question. You can't use it everytime though.
   Sometimes you have to deal with new, previously unplayed stages in order to
   progress in the game.

Q: Why isn't the second mission objective for [stage name] open even though I
   just fullfilled goals for it in the stage I last played?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Triggering goals for the second mission objective doesn't open the stage in
   question (as the next stage to play). It just means when you get to play the
   stage, you've met conditions to accomplish it. For example, when you pick up
   the screwdriver in stage KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00 to fullfill goals for
   mission objective 2 for stage KYOYA SUDA Day 2 01:00, it doesn't mean the
   second mission objective in stage KYOYA SUDA Day 2 01:00 is now open. It
   means when you eventually get to play the second mission objective of the
   stage, you can actually accomplish it.

Q: Okay then but when do I get to play the second mission objectives? It's been
   ages I played the stage and I still don't have the second mission objective
   for it open. Did I do something wrong along the way? Do I need perhaps more
   archive items or what?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Don't worry about not getting the second mission objectives to play yet.
   Just keep playing the stages the games hands you and eventually they'll be
   open. You can't skip any stage by accident. The stage order is intentionally
   unchronological. And you don't need archive items to open them. In fact you
   can complete the game without all the archive items.

Q: Do I have to conserve ammo? Am I missing the bullets I fired off the next
   time I play the same character?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Ammo is always replenished at the start of every level where you have a gun
   at hand so you don't need to conserve ammo.

Q: I don't see a health meter anywhere. How am I supposed to know how much
   punishment my character can take?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Your characters are weak, some weaker than others. Generally the younger
   they are, the less they can take damage. Female characters are weaker than
   males. Generally you can take about three hits of a melee weapon and two
   hits of a gun. The health will regenerate so when you have taken damage,
   find a safe place to stay put for a while. Remember, also the stunned
   shibitos will recover in time...

Q: I'm in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 02:00 Harayadori, Yabay settlement,
   Mission Objective 2. I have climbed to the top of the fire tower but I
   don't hear any announcements? What's wrong?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: There's a five minute time-limit to accomplish the mission objective 2.
   Have a clock running by your side to keep track of time. If you make it to
   the top of the fire tower in under five minutes, you hear the announcement.

Q: I'm stuck on TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 20:00 Hirunotsuka, spring at Mizuhiroku
   shrine when you have to fight the Shibito Brain. Can you give better
   details on how to defeat this guy?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Shibito brain is the only shibito on the level on two legs. All the other
   shibitos are of crawly type so it's easy to recognize it from sightjack.
   The Shibito brain has a flashlight and it runs very fast. Use sightjack to
   pinpoint its location and go there. When you meet it, shoot it immediately.
   Usually it tries to escape so you have to run after it. It takes three or
   four good shots to get Shibito brain down. Beware of crawly shibitos though
   who usually gather around Shibito brain. You have to shoot them first.
   Don't confuse Shibito brain with the flying shibito.

Q: What is the correct order of lighting the lanterns in stage REIKO TAKATO
   Day 1 23:00 Karuwari, abandoned storehouse to accomplish the mission
   objective 2?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: D, A, B, C. When you look at the map, you see it's quite a logical order.

Q: I can't light the lanters in the aforementioned stage! What's wrong?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: You should have pushed stone markers over in stages KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00
   Karuwari, Cutfell way, AKIRA SHIMURA Day 1 08:00 Gojaku peak, Misumi trail,
   SHIRO MIYATA Day 1 03:00 Janokubi valley and RISA ONDA Day 1 04:00 Taburi,
   abandoned building during first or second mission objectives. If you missed
   one, some or all of them, go and replay those stages and push over the
   stone markers found in them. See the walkthrough for more detailed info.

Q: I can't light the lanters in stage REIKO TAKATO DAY 1 23:00 because I need
   candles. How can I get them?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: You get candles from Harumi only if you hide her in the closet in 1-2 grade
   classroom before reaching the faculty in stage REIKO TAKATO Day 1 02:00
   Haruba elementary school, Oribe campus/library. Replay that level and hide
   Harumi properly. When you go the faculty and pick up the key to the
   gymnasium from the table, Harumi gives you the candles. If you, however,
   resorted to "try again" after the faculty, you don't have the candles
   anymore. You have to play the level in one go.

Q: I'm running around the hospital with Tamon carrying a hose in stage
   TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 2 18:00 Miyata clinic, ward 2, 1st floor entrance during
   the second mission objective. Where do I stick the hose?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: You have to open the 2nd floor men's toilet in stage SHIRO MIYATA Day 2
   00:00 Miyata Clinic, Ward 1. Refer to the walkthrough how to do it. As what
   to do with the hose in the men's toilet, refer to the walkthrough.

Q: I'm in stage KYOYA SUDA Day 2 20:00 Upper Arato, banks of Mana river with
   mission objective 2: create entryway for Harumi Yomoda. I'm in front of the
   iron bars in the very end and have pressed X buth nothing happens. The game
   just tells I can't open the bars with tools I have. What's wrong?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Back in stage TAMON TAKEUCHI Day 1 20:00 Hirunotsuka, spring at Mizuhiroku
   shrine, you have to hide with Yoriko in the cave, lock the door and then
   unlock it. Doing this Yoriko will find a piece of cloth from the cave which
   is needed now in that Kyoya's stage. Yoriko will bend the iron bars using
   the cloth. Just replay that Tamon's level and do the needed part.

Q: Where did my archive item disappear? I'm sure I collected it! Also I seem
   to miss second mission objectives which I'm sure I have triggered!
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: In some stages there are checkpoints. In those stages if you die, you don't
   have to start all over again if you have reached the checkpoint. But if you
   use "try again" feature from a checkpoint, all the archive items collected
   before it are lost and more importantly, triggers for the 2nd mission
   objectives as well! In order to get them back, you have to replay the level
   without using "try again" feature at checkpoints. In other words, if you
   happen to die during those levels, instead of using "try again" at the
   checkpoint, you have to start the level from the beginning. Yes, it sucks.
   A bad bug.

Q: I have 99 archive items but I'm still missing the item 001! How do I get it?
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: When you have 99 archive items out of 100 possible, you get the final (or
   rather, the very first) movie "Datatsushi 684AD" and after viewing it via
   the stage select the item 001 is added to the archive.

Q: I hear there's a secret movie happening with Yoriko Anno on Day 3 at 18:00.
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
   Yes. After getting and viewing the movie "Datatsushi 684AD" there's indeed
   a movie with Yoriko Anno at the mentioned date. 

Q: I have completed every stage, got every archive item, watched every movie
   but I don't have time attack mode! What's wrong?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: You do have time attack mode if you've completed the game. Just load your
   latest save game and when you use stage select to select any playable stage,
   the game gives you a chance to play it as a time attack version (press
   square when prompted).

Q: God, those English voiceovers are horrible! They ruin the game completely!
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Even the worst voiceovers can't render games unplayable (well, English dub
   of "Way of the Samurai 2" comes close...). Horrible as many English voices
   are, strangely they will eventually grow on you... For example, I can't
   imagine Shiro without his deadpan mumble.

Q: Well, do you have any idea what do in the Brain Cell Revival game you can
   play after completing the game if you got the archive item 087?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: You see all those colored blobs on the board? Your aim is to have vertical
   or horizontal rows of four blobs of the same color by moving the sliders to
   remove the blobs from the board and score points. D-pad is for moving the
   "target" and face buttons to move the sliders. If there are other blobs of
   the same colors connected to the row of four, they all will be removed.
   That's all I can say for now. Don't know yet for example what's the meaning
   of burger faces apart from being on the way...

Q: Okay, I got the idea of Brain Cell Revival. But what's the point to have it
   in the game?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Maybe it's there to turn you into a shibito. Those blinking graphics can't
   be good for your health in the long run... ;-)

Q: Why there was almost 4 years gap between updates?
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
   Too little time and I also thought I had covered all of the game pretty
   throughout already.

By following the walkthrough you should be able to trigger all the second
mission objectives for stages in the game but here's the list of the

At the well [pull up bucket] and [put radio in bucket] (found in Yoshimuma's
house) and hide nearby. A shibito will be attracted by the white noice radio
is making and comes to the well. Wait until it has leaned over to look into the
well and shoot it to fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Akira Shimura
on Day 1 at 16:00.

KEI MAKINO Day 1 06:00 (during mission objective 1):

Notice the numeric code written on the backwall of the barbershop (0705). Open
the backdoor of Ishikawa's house and enter it. Inside open a door to the room
with a tape recorder. Rewind the tape according to the numeric code and press
play. You'll hear a four-digit code. Go out and [remove lock] from nearby shack
with the code. Open the shack and [pick up] the <face towel>. Turn left and
[pick up] the <rope> to fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for Kei Makino
on Day 3 at 12:00.

Go to the backroom of cafeteria and [soak the towel] by the sink. [Place the
towel] inside the freezer to fullfill goals for mission objective 2 for
Shiro Miyata on Day 1 at 7:00.

KYOYA SUDA Day 1 08:00 (during mission objective 1 or 2):

[Clear brushwood] from the left side of the tree (near path after abandoned
