    April 14 2005: Added some last Glitch/Fun Things To Do to the document. The
                   guide is now in it’s FINAL VERSION and will not be updated again
                   unless something truly groundbreaking is discovered.
    
    March 19 2005: Added the final touches to the FAQ. All unlockable Items have now
                   been added. Thanks to all who have contributed and helped me
                   complete this guide.
    
    March 8 2005: Completed the walkthrough portion of the guide as well as all
                  Stealth Kill depictions. I have decided not to include cutscene
                  depictions this time around as they are easily accessibly in
                  “Encyclopedia” mode. For all intensive purposes this FAQ is
                  complete and will only be updated again if something truly
                  remarkable is discovered.
    
    March 5 2005: Added the remaining missions except for 12-2 today and also
                  corrected some information regarding the DOKUTO SWORD location.
                  The next update will have Chapter 12-2 completed as well.
    
    March 1 2005: Added several new chapters. The walkthrough is now done up to
                  Chapter 10-2. Also completed the Scoring Details and added several
                  contributions throughout the guide.
    
    February 27 2005: Added several more chapter walkthroughs and completed the
                      Special Abilities section.
    
    February 26 2005: Added several more mission walkthroughs today. Please do not
                      email me information on the missing Stealth Kill
                      depictions/incomplete sections. I know what they are and will
                      get them all completed once the mission walkthroughs are
                      complete.
    
    February 24 2005: Added a few more mission walkthroughs today. This weekend I
                      will update again with the majority of the missions completed.
                      I have also made several additions here and there throughout

    Welcome to my Tenchu: Fatal Shadows FAQ/Walkthrough. In this document you
    will be able to find a completely detailed walkthrough for both playable
    characters as well as thorough information on every other aspect of the game
    including Weapons/Items, Stealth Kills, Tactics etc. This time around I have
    elected not to include cutscene depictions and narration depictions due to the
    fact that these are all now easily accessible by simply going into
    “Encyclopedia” mode once you have unlocked them. As a result this FAQ can be
    considered a SPOILER FREE document with the exceptions being Boss names and
    locales.
    
    In short, the goal of this walkthrough is to get you from the starting point
    to the ending point of each mission along with gathering any Special Items or
    Weapons that may be hidden or obtained throughout any particular level. Keep in
    mind that there are more corridors and areas for you to explore on your own but
    everything pertinent will be found herein. Additionally, I have covered every
    mission on Level II Difficulty. Enemy layouts and Item locations will differ if
    you use a different difficulty setting.

    In Tenchu: Fatal Shadows you get to play as two separate characters whose
    missions alternate as you make your way through the game. In this section you
    can get a brief overview of each playable character as well a brief description
    of each enemy that you will encounter throughout the game. For screenshots I

    Age: 22
    Sex: Female
    Weapon: Short Swords (Two powerful blades that provide the perfect compliment
                         for her remarkable finesse and lightning speed)
    
    Bio: Initiated into the Azuma Clan at the young age of 14, Ayame was considered
         a prodigy. Ayame is normally very calm and level-headed, except when
         something comes between her and Princess Kiku, who she sees as a younger
         sister.

    Age: 16
    Sex: Female
    Weapon: Large Sword called “Nasume”
    Bio: Rin is from a small ninja village that lies on the border of Mei-Oh’s
         Kingdom called Hagakure. Since her village was destroyed, she has sought to
         avenge the deaths of her loved ones. She works as a hired assassin for
         “Lady Razor” Ogin.

    OGIN: Also know as “Lady Razor”, Ogin is an older lady who gives Rin her
          assassination assignments.
    
    KICHIGORO/MIMIZUKU: Kichigoro works both as a spy for Lord Gohda and with Ogin
                        and the Beniya Assassins. His real name is Mimizuku but Rin
                        is the only one who knows this.
    
    ZENNOSUKE: Zennosuke is not connected to Lord Gohda although he has much
               respect for him. Instead he runs the underground organization known
               as "Muzen" which sells justice to villagers who need help but fear
               going to the local, corrupt authorities. Tesshu Fujioka is a member
               of this organization and takes his missions directly from Zennosuke.
    
    TESSHU: Tesshu Fujioka only makes a brief cameo appearance in the game but was
            the unlockable player from Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven/Return from Darkness.
            He is an assassin for hire who gets most of his assignments from
            Zennosuke. He is a doctor by day and killer by night.
    
    MANJIROU: Manjirou is the contact you’ll need to find in order to complete the
              final mission. There isn’t much to say about him except that he will
              point you in the right direction.

    SAMURAI GUARD: These guys are not as plentiful but can easily be distinguished
                   due the fact that they walk around with their arms crossed along
                   with the fact that they always appear deep in thought.
    
    SPEAR WIELDING GUARD: These guards are relatively easy to detect by their choice
                          of weaponry. In head on fights they can be somewhat
                          punishing as they tend to keep their spear between you and
                          them. When dead however, their spear can be yours for the
                          taking provided you have space in your inventory.
    
    ARCHER: These guys are just like the spear wielding variety with the obvious
            exception of their Bow and Arrows. One key note is that these guys tend
            to have better vision so be sure to keep crouched when one is perched
            atop a roof or ledge. When one is dead you can take his Bow and Arrow
            for your own sadistic use.
    
    SWORD GUARD: Same as the ARCHER and SPEAR WIELDING GUARDS except that they carry
                 a sword instead. You cannot claim their sword once they die.
    
    NINJA: These guards are dressed in Dark Green/black clothing and are pretty
           tough fighters. They do not however posses the type of ninja skills that
           you do and therefore simply patrol in their particular spots. Ninjas
           often relinquish other Items as well as scrolls when killed so make sure
           you take these suckers out.
    
    OLD HUNCHBACK GUARD: Not much of a threat and easy to detect due to his poor
                         posture. This enemy should be taken out of his misery by
                         Stealth Killing him on sight. His vision is poor and he is
                         also slow.
    
    BALD GUARD: Besides being bald, this enemy can be seen wearing a black glove as
                well. Although slow, this enemy packs quite a punch and often grab
                and cut your throat. Use your speed to your advantage if in a direct
                fight and block his attacks before retaliating with your own volley.
    
    MONK WITH STAFF: These guys wear a basket on their head so you’ll have no
                     trouble distinguishing them. They are about as strong as
                     regular spear wielding guards and again attempt to keep their
                     staff between you and them. Once they are dead you can pick
                     up their weapon for your own use. It seems to me that they also
                     posses a slightly better range of vision that regular guards so
                     keep a safe distance.
    
    MONK WITH BLOW GUN: These guys also wear baskets on their heads and the only
                        difference between them and their staff wielding comrades is
                        the fact that they wield a blow gun. When you are hit by one
                        of their darts your Health Meter will turn green and you
                        will be less than efficient for a short time. It is best to
                        Stealth Kill these guys or at least attack them quickly and
                        with deadly intentions. Unfortunately you cannot pick up
                        their blow guns when they die but many do relinquish POISON
                        ANTIDOTE once killed.
    
    KUNOICHI: These female guard is easily distinguished by the fact that they wear
              a mini skirt. They can be pretty tough to deal with if there are other
              enemies involved due to their sneaky tactics of trying to attack from
              behind while you are fighting another guard. One on one though they
              are pretty easily defeated. Their vision is also impeccable so look
              out for them when they are perched atop cliffs, towers etc.
    
    GUITAR GEISHA: These ladies walk around with their musical instrument and are
                   not too difficult to defeat. However, I always recommend Stealth
                   Killing these and all other enemies.
    
    CLAW WIELDING GUARD: These guys are very agile and efficient in combat and can
                         be distinguished by the fact that they wear a mask in
                         addition to the claw blades on their arms. Stealth Kill
                         them to avoid a lengthy cat and mouse type fight.
    
    WHITE CLOTH SAMURAI: These guards can easily be identified by the white cloth
                         that covers their nose and mouth. They are more formidable
                         fighters but just as dumb as the rest when on patrol.
    
    DOG: Guard dogs are relatively weak but will alert other guards upon spotting
         you. It is always best to kill them before they spot you. Also note the
         fire in their eyes to signify that this is not your ordinary house pooch.
         NOTE: Being seen by a dog counts as being spotted. One SHURIKEN will kill
               an unaware Dog.
    
    CAT: Cats are very rare in this installment and will only be found if you are
         inside of a home. They can alert enemies to your presence but cannot be
         killed. Additionally they will not spot you but the will scamper around and
         make noise.
    
    CHICKEN: Chickens pose no threat (Duh) and cannot be killed either. Additionally
             you will not be spotted when seen by one of them.
    
    BEAR: Bears can be found in one of the alternate layouts. As with previous
          Tenchu games they are rather strong and should be disposed of quickly and
          stealthily. Try using a BOLA Item if you can to lynch one.

    Tenchu: Fatal Shadows is a ninja simulator in every sense of the word. As a
    ninja in feudal Japan you have a lot of freedom in choosing how you go through
    any particular level. You can simply go through completely undetected, killing
    only those who are in your way or you can wipe out every living enemy guard
    within the level as though you are the hunter and they are the prey. You
    always have access to your GRAPPLING HOOK which allows you to scale almost any
    building, roof or cliff as well as a host of other ninja Weapons and Items to
    help you decide how to kill or distract your enemies. In this section I will
    describe some of the things that you should become familiar with in order to
    become a true Grand Master of the game. Additional tips can be found preceding
    each Walkthrough mission.

    The Ki Meter, located at the lower left corner of your screen serves as your
    awareness meter. It tells you how near or far an enemy is from you as well as
    what his/her present mindset is. The counter goes from 0 - 99 with 99
    obviously being extremely close to the enemy so make sure you watch it closely
    and learn to use it when gauging how far a patrolling guard will walk before
    stopping and turning around. There are 4 different symbols that you will
    encounter on your Ki Meter. They are:
    
    <?>  - The enemy is completely unaware of your presence. (Ideal) Attacking an
           enemy while he/she is in this mode will trigger a Stealth Kill
           animation.
    
    <!>  - The enemy sees something but is not yet sure what it might be. You
           should immediately crouch and if necessary, roll backwards and out of
           sight.
    
    <!?> - The enemy is on alert, knows you are around but is unsure of your
           location. During this time you need to lay low until your enemy calms
           down again. Keep in mind that if there is a dead guard in the vicinity
           of two patrolling guards, both will need to individually go on alert by
           discovering the body.
    
    <!!> - The enemy has spotted you and is in pursuit. Time to Fight head on or
           run away and lay low until the enemy gives up the search and relaxes
           again.
           NOTE: Being spotted affects your score which in turn affects your
           ranking. The "Scoring" section below breaks this down in detail.

    A Stealth Kill occurs when you attack an enemy who is in "<?>", "<!>" or
    In the first seconds of "<!?>" mode. In layman's terms it means you kill in one
    swift strike. Depending on what angle you approach and attack from you can
    trigger several different animations that show your character gruesomely ending
    your victim's life. Ayame and Rin each have 8 unique Stealth Kills. (Bola Item
    not Included) Additionally there is a little flashing light will shine when you
    are in range. If you press SQUARE at the precise moment of the flashing light it
    will trigger a kuji effect around the Ki Meter. This will automatically award
    you with an extra scroll. Midway through the Stealth Kill animation the light
    will flash again. Time it just right and press Square again and an added
    image/flash will accompany the Stealth Kill FMV. This will also add to the
    scroll count. In this section I will simply briefly outline and describe the
    various approach angles that will lead to the various cutscenes as well as when
    to press the SQUARE button again to maximize your scroll count.

                 his neck to break. To dismount she performs a back handspring.
    Timing of Second Strike: Right before the swords are driven down into his
                             shoulders. A white flash will signify correct timing.

    Additional Notes: If Ayame is not precisely in the middle of both guards she
                      will often perform a leaping scissor kick to the second
                      guard’s head/face. In this case, strike again precisely before
                      impact to trigger a still image of the guards face being

                 like fashion, writhes and grapples around him until she is firmly

                 leaping off while twisting and breaking her victim’s neck. The
                 enemy is sent spinning like mad into the air from the act and falls
                 dead on the ground.
    Timing of Second Strike: Right before she actually twists his/her head to break
                             the neck. An x-ray image showing the head being turned

                 her face off the ground and with her free hand, draws her sword and
                 then drives it deep into their throat.
    Timing of Second Strike: Right before the blade makes contact with the guard’s
                             skin. A brief x-ray image will show the sword going so
                             far down so as to puncture their beating heart.

                             x-ray scene will show the guard’s skull being crushed

    Additional Notes: Sometimes a variation occurs when you are not precisely in
                      between both guards. When this happens Rin will perform a
                      roundhouse kick to the second guard’s head. Correct timing of
                      the second strike (Right before impact) will show a brief
                      image of his face being smashed.

                 momentarily.

    In Game Description: When jumping toward a wall, keep the X button held down to
                         run up the wall. Release the X button to perform a wall
                         jump. With this technique, ninjas can jump toward a wall,
                         then continue to run up the wall. It requires great leg,
                         stomach, and even back muscles to keep balance and perfect
                         this technique.
    Controls: Double jump towards a wall and quickly press “X” as soon as you touch
              it to execute this move.
    Notes: All it basically allows you to do is an extra two-step. This ain’t Prince
           of Persia chappy.

    In Game Description: At the end of a flurry of attacks, Ayame can unleash a

              Left Analog Stick and SQUARE.

                         says that the ninja had eyes as acute as a hawk’s. Whether

    Notes: By zooming in you can throw SHURIKEN and other long-range weapons much

    In Game Description: Crouching low to the ground like a cheetah, a ninja can
                         launch into a great sprint. This technique is especially
                         useful in areas with many places to hide, and many corners
                         to turn. This technique is practiced by sprinting with
                         weights attached to ones leg.
    Controls: Press “L3” while crouching / CIRCLE to cancel
    Notes: A very useful but short sprint that can get you to an enemy before he/she
           turns back around. To link sprints together release “R1” just before
           Ayame skids to a halt and quickly press “R1 + L3” again.

    In Game Description: By sitting close to the ground and putting herself under a
                         sort of hypnosis, a ninja can hear even the slightest of
                         noise by picking up vibrations from the ground. It requires
                         great control over ones heartbeat and breathing to do this
                         technique.
    Controls: Press CIRCLE while crouching.
    Notes: Patrolling enemies will show up as green dots on the map. This technique
           only works if everyone is in “?” mode. Stationary enemies will not
           appear. This is a very useful ability.

    Controls: Press CIRCLE just before an enemy projectile strikes you.

    In Game Description: A claw technique used in battle. Using the Grappling Hook,
                         this technique allows you to attack enemies after they have
                         been knocked back, though it requires much practice.
    Controls: Rotate the Left Analog Stick, then press SQUARE. After the enemy is
              launched into the air, quickly press TRIANGLE to grab the enemy with
              the hook.
    Notes: Tricky but can be useful once you master the move.

    In Game Description: In addition to the Hawk Eye technique, a ninja can further
                         train her eye so that she can strike at enemy pressure
                         points and vital organs with a shuriken, even at great
                         distance.
    Controls: Select a Shuriken and then aim and throw it at the back of an enemy’s
              head for a Stealth Kill.
    Notes: Enemies must be unaware for the Stealth Kill and sometimes even a shot to
           the back will suffice.

    In Game Description: This ninja technique allows the ninja to use hypnosis to
                         control the mind of her target. As long as the target is
                         not jarred out of hypnosis by any strong stimuli, the
                         target will remain under her control.
    Controls: Sneak up behind enemy and press CIRCLE when in Stealth Kill range.
    Notes: This will only paralyze the enemy. You cannot actually control their
           movements or anything like that. Ayame will basically slice her enemy
           across his back causing him/her to simply stay in place while looking as
           though they are suffering an epilepsy attack. The enemy will not be able
           to spot you unless you bump into him/her. Additionally you can practice
           any Stealth Kill on your victim although I’ve noticed the Scroll count is
           reduced to one only. This is also an effective way to pause patrolling
           Innocents as well.

    In Game Description: This technique allows you to stick to any ceiling and
                         observe enemy movements below. Only a true ninja who has
                         undergone intense physical training has the discipline to
                         use this technique.
    Controls: Grapple towards the ceiling and then press and hold “R1” to cling to
              it. You can also try using the WALL RUN technique to get high enough
              in order to cling.
    Notes: You can only cling for around 20 – 25 seconds so make sure you time it
           right. The controller will vibrate to let you know time is running out.
           RICEBALLS are great Items to drop beneath you to lure an enemy in for the
           kill. Formerly known as “Cling To Ceiling” in WoH.

    In Game Description: A great deal of a ninja's power comes from the manipulation
                         of people's senses. The False Wall technique allows a ninja
                         to blend into surrounding walls using sheets of cloth
                         painted in patterns to match those walls.
    Controls: Press and hold CIRCLE while leaning up against a wall. By releasing
              CIRCLE or R1 you can cancel this ability.
    Notes: A truly efficient ability. This should help you pass even the most
           complex of enemy layouts. It is possible that you can still sometimes be
           spotted from the side depending on your positioning in relation to your
           enemies.

    In Game Description: When surrounded by enemies, Ayame can spend a moment
                         focusing her inner energies, then lash out in a great
                         attack, striking all those nearby. In this game, Ayame has
                         yet to perfect this technique. She has perfected it since
                         however.
    Controls: Press and hold SQUARE to charge. Release to attack. If successful,
              press SQUARE again to attack the next closest enemy.
    Notes: To effectively use this during a Boss Battle I recommend dropping a SMOKE
           BOMB first and locking on to them before releasing.

    In Game Description: Catching an enemy while in the air, this technique allows
                         Rin to drive them into the ground, without a chance to
                         recover. With that amount of force that the enemy hits the
                         ground, they are almost guaranteed not to survive.
    Controls: After the second attack in a combo, press away with the Left Analog
              Stick and SQUARE, then SQUARE again.
    Notes: A very nice move. Get used to it as it is a worthy attack.

              it to execute this move.

    In Game Description: Allows the ninja to see further than the naked eye. Legend
                         says that the ninja had eyes as acute as a hawk’s. Whether
                         this was due to training or use of tools is not known but
                         perhaps it was a special skill like this that gave them
                         this power.
    Controls: Use the Right Analog Stick to zoom in and out while pressing “L1”.
    Notes: By zooming in you can throw SHURIKEN and other long-range weapons much

    In Game Description: This technique was described in an ancient tome as such:
                         “To destroy the body, you must destroy that which supports
                         it. Destroy the enemy’s bones and he shall not move. But
                         crush his skull and he shall not awaken.”
    Controls: During a throw, Rotate the Left Analog Stick and press CIRCLE.
    Notes: This is an extremely effective technique especially when completed with
           CRIMSON FINAL. Pay attention to the FMV and continuously rotate the
           Analog Stick while pressing Circle to maximize your success ratio.

    In Game Description: By applying pressure on a specific pressure point, a ninja
                         can temporarily shut down an enemy's nervous system,
                         effectively paralyzing them for a short while. The victim
                         will not be able to see or hear for the duration of the
                         paralysis.
    Controls: Sneak up behind your intended target and press CIRCLE when in Stealth
              Kill range. Rin will perform a chop to the back which will initiate
              the paralysis.
    Notes: Bumping into a paralyzed guard will cause the effect to wear off. Any
           angle stealth kill can be performed on a paralyzed guard although the
           scroll count will be reduced. You can also paralyze Innocent civilians
           without consequences.

    In Game Description: With this technique, a ninja is able to become one with the
                         shadows and hide her form from suspicious eyes. While in
                         Shadow form, Rin can approach targets, even from the front,

    Controls: Pres “L3” while crouched to initiate this short lasting skill.
    Notes: This technique is better in theory than it is in execution. It is very
           short and Rin needs to do a back flip to initiate it. Be careful not to

    In Game Description: A claw technique used in battle. Using the Grappling Hook,
                         this technique allows you to attack enemies after they have
                         been knocked back, though it requires much practice.
    Controls: Rotate the Left Analog Stick, then press SQUARE. After the enemy is
              launched into the air, quickly press TRIANGLE to grab the enemy with
              the hook.
    Notes: Tricky but can be useful once you master the move. Rin’s version is
           faster than Ayame’s.

    In Game Description: This technique allows you to stick to any ceiling and
                         observe enemy movements below. Only a true ninja who has
                         undergone intense physical training has the discipline to
                         use this technique.
    Controls: Grapple towards the ceiling and then press and hold “R1” to cling to
              it. You can also try using the WALL RUN technique to get high enough
              in order to cling.
    Notes: You can only cling for around 20 – 25 seconds so make sure you time it
           right. The controller will vibrate to let you know time is running out.

    In Game Description: In addition to the Hawk Eye technique, a ninja can further
                         train her eye so that she can strike at enemy pressure
                         points and vital organs with a shuriken, even at great

    Controls: Select a Shuriken and then aim and throw it at the back of an enemy’s
              head for a Stealth Kill.
    Notes: Enemies must be unaware for the Stealth Kill and sometimes even a shot to

    In Game Description: By mimicking the sound of an animal, a ninja can manipulate
                         the senses of anyone close enough to hear. This technique

    Notes: Yes. You too can sound like a chicken in Tenchu.

    In Game Description: In the last stage of the Crimson attack, a master ninja can
                         crush her enemy's skull in such a way that nothing can ever
                         revive him. It is truly a fearsome technique.
    Controls: During the Arm Break portion of the CRIMSON Special, press UP and DOWN
              on the Left Analog Stick and press CIRCLE.
    Notes: This is a tremendously effective and damaging combo. Pay attention to the
           animation and continuously keep pressing up and down and Circle to
           maximize your chances of successfully pulling this off.

    There are tons of different Items and Weapons available for you to have fun and
    experiment with. Some of these are available immediately like COLORED RICE,
    HEALING POTIONS and SHURIKEN while others are either found in certain levels or
    unlocked by Grandmastering a level. Below is a breakdown of each General Weapon
    and Item as well as those that are unique to each character.

    | COLORED RICE       | Use only as a marker on the map to remind you of a      |

    | ANTIDOTE           | This potion cures you from the effects of poison.       |

    |                    | BLADES this Item can be used quickly to avoid the ill   |

    | BLOWGUN            | One of the most useful long range weapons, the blowgun  |

    |                    | health. A great addition to any mission.                |

    | POISON RICE BALL   | This Item is a great luring device as enemies will leave|
    |                    | their designated patrol patterns towards the POISON RICE|
    |                    | BALL. While they are being completely predictable in    |
    |                    | their path you can easily Stealth Kill them and then    |
    |                    | re-use the Item again. If an enemy eats it he or she    |
    |                    | will become poisoned and lose approximately half of     |
    |                    | their Health. A Dog will still have 1HP left after      |
    |                    | consuming it.                                           |

    | GRENADE            | As is the case with all previous Tenchu games, the      |
    |                    | grenade is a powerful and useful Item. This Item is very|
    |                    | well employed during boss battles as no one can block   |
    |                    | the explosive power of a grenade. You do not want to use|
    |                    | them in stealthy moments however for obvious reasons.   |
    |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------|
    | CHAMELEON SPELL    | This Item allows you to briefly camouflage yourself to  |
    |                    | look like one of the enemy guards thereby not alerting  |
    |                    | any nearby enemies. Although you can approach any enemy |
    |                    | from any angle for your Stealth Kill sequence of choice,|
    |                    | it wears off after a kill or if you take too long. Use  |
    |                    | it wisely and remember that it won’t fool bosses.       |
    |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------|
    | INVISIBILITY SPELL | This Item allows you to be completely invisible to your |
    |                    | enemies for about 30 seconds. You can Stealth Kill      |
    |                    | several enemies without having to worry about it wearing|
    |                    | off like the Chameleon Spell. Bosses will not be fooled |
    |                    | and running through water will still put enemies into   |
    |                    | “!?” mode.                                              |

    | DECOY BELL         | As the name implies this Item is used to lure your      |
    |                    | enemies away from their designated patrol patterns,     |
    |                    | thereby making them easier and more predictable targets |

    | NINJA REBIRTH      | Unlocked by completing the tutorial this Item will      |
    |                    | respawn you upon death in battle. Mimicking a SMOKE     |
    |                    | BOMB, this Item momentarily stuns your enemies and      |
    |                    | usually allows for a quick Stealth Kill upon your       |
    |                    | reappearance from the dead. Falling down a bottomless   |
    |                    | pit however is another story altogether. This Item      |
    |                    | automatically triggers meaning you don’t need to select |
    |                    | it in order for it to work.                             |

    | STRENGTH POTION    | You guessed it, this Item will temporarily boost your   |
    |                    | strength in terms of attack damage inflicted. Useful    |
    |                    | against bosses and when coupled with the AMULET you will|

    |                    | drink and if hit while in the act you will drop this    |
    |                    | Item.                                                   |

    | SACRIFICE POTION   | Similar to the STRENGTH POTION except you all but 1 HP  |

    |                    | they are dazed. Additionally this can make for a quick  |
    |                    | escape in true ninja fashion.                           |

    | DOG BONE           | This Item basically conjures up Semimaru to fight       |
    |                    | alongside you for a bit. If you ever played Tenchu:     |
    |                    | Stealth Assassins then you’ll remember how ineffective  |
    |                    | this Item was then already. It still isn’t that good.   |

    | EXPLODING ARROW    | A very useful long range weapon. Make sure you arc the  |
    |                    | shot well because gravity will play a part in the       |
    |                    | trajectory of this burning arrow. It can light up a foe |
    |                    | real nice though. Also a good weapon to use against     |
    |                    | bosses.                                                 |

    | FIRE SPELL         | This Item creates a powerful fire blast in several      |
    |                    | directions and will inflict a great deal of pain to any |

    |                    | unlock this Item as well by getting an Assassin Ranking |

    | DECOY WHISTLE      | This Item allows you to mimic the sound of animals.     |
    |                    | Basically if a guard is alerted it will assure him that |

    |                    | NOTE: Rin can also unlock this Item by getting an       |
    |                    | Assassin ranking on Chapter 11 during Level Select mode.|
    |                    | (It is rather useless though as Rin will unlock this    |
    |                    | ability naturally by collecting the scrolls)            |

    | HAND CLAWS         | One of the coolest new additions in the Tenchu          |
    |                    | Weapon/Item tradition. Hand Claws allow to to jump up   |

    |                    | in mind that once the controller starts to rumble, time |
    |                    | is limited.                                             |

    | CANNON             | Similar to the Bamboo Gun with the exception being that |

    | WASPS NEST         | A neat little Item that can be placed in the enemy’s    |
    |                    | patrol path. Once he/she walks over it it will trigger a|

    | SLEEPING GAS       | Anyone that is hit with this gas will fall asleep. This |
    |                    | is a perfect Item to use on Innocent Civilians to       |

    |                    | 12-2 in Level Select mode.                              |

    Every time you complete a mission you will be graded and scored on various
    aspects of your play. The criteria of judging includes:
    
    Stealth Kills: Number of enemies killed by using Stealth Kill animations.
    Normal Kills: Number of enemies defeated in head on(Spotted) combat.
    Spotted: Number of times you were spotted (“!!”) by enemies/innocents.
    Innocents: Number of civilians you killed.
    Specials: Total of all accumulated Bonus Points.
    
    Based on the overall score you will be given a final ranking as well. Here is a
    breakdown of Ranks according to each character as well as the score required to
    achieve it. NOTE: Special Items are only unlocked if you attain a Grand Master/
    Assassin Ranking.

    *This seems to occur when a fight(not including Boss Battles) brings in someone
     else, or when you are spotted by a second or third enemy during “<!!>” mode.
    
    NOTE: By looking at the above chart you can see that it is possible to get a
          Grandmaster/Assassin Ranking by not being seen once (+200) combined with
          Not killing ANY enemies (+100). While insanely difficult, this is a nice
          challenge to a true aspiring ninja.
    
    NOTE 2: I have read somewhere that if you kill every enemy in outright combat
            you will earn 650 points, enough for a Grandmaster/Assassin Ranking.
            Although I haven’t attempted this as yet, it gives you something else to
            try if you simply can’t get the ranking.

    | GAMEPLAY TIPS  |

    Here are a few tips that will surely make you a much more successful and
    undetected ninja while on your path to Grandmastering every level.
    
    - Take your time as you go through a level and use stealth. You will certainly
      get spotted and into big fights if you just run about impatiently. To be
      successful in this game you need to be extremely patient and observant.
    
    - Watch the enemy's habits before you charge in for the Stealth Kill. Each
      guard has a set pattern of turning or walking. If you watch him long enough
      you can find the most opportune time to strike undetected. Also it is
      advisable to immediately crouch after a kill so as not to alert any nearby
      guards. Once they spot their fallen comrade they will come to inspect.
    
    - Move bodies whenever other guards are around if you have time.
    
    - Don’t forget to pick up your scrolls after a kill. They will only remain there
      for a few moments so time your kills in a way that will allow you to get the
      scroll(s) as well.
    
    - When jumping down from a high ledge press "R1" to land stealthily without
      falling down and wasting 2-3 precious seconds while your character gets back
      on their feet. Also if jumping into water you will land silently by
      employing this technique.
    
    - When you find yourself in an area that seems like a dead end with no exits,
      look up. There is almost always a hole or passageway above you in these
      areas. It is actually a good idea to look around in every room or tunnel
      that you go through simply to get better acquainted with your surroundings.
    
    - When spotted and forced to fight multiple enemies simultaneously try to
      avoid getting caught in the middle as you will take much more damage this
      way. Often times the best idea is to run away and then come back silently to
      Stealth Kill them. (You'll get more points that way too)
    
    - Check your map often. I cannot overemphasize this enough. Most of the levels
      in this game are fairly easy to navigate through if you regularly check your
      map. This will keep you from running in circles and help you identify
      important landmarks in the level as well.
    
    - Practice your moves and combo's. The better you can fight and avoid being
      hit, the longer you will last in heated battles.
    
    - Use your Items. What's the point of carrying them along if you aren't going
      to use them? The BLOW GUN is recommended for almost all missions.
    
    - In Fatal Shadows more so than any previous Tenchu game it is important to
      watch the count on your Ki Meter. Sometimes when you are in a hallway or
      corridor the only wat to know which direction the enemy is is by moving side
      to side and watching the count on the meter.

    This is the heart and soul of this document. In this section I will walk you
    through every mission contained within this game. Please keep in mind that
    this game is very open in the sense that you can take a variety of paths to
    reach the final point of each map so I am simply following my path for the
    sake of this walkthrough. I encourage you to explore the different maps and
    find your own unique paths and ways through the game. Also please note that
    there are NO SPOILERS contained herein. All cutscene depictions have been
    omitted since you can view them at your leisure in “Encyclopedia” mode.
    
    NOTE: ALL MISSION WALKTHROUGHS ARE BASED ON LEVEL II DIFFICULTY - LAYOUT 1!!!
    
    
    
    
    
                                 ~ P R O L O G U E ~
    In a time of feudal wars, Rikimaru and Ayame, two ninjas of the Azuma Clan,
    served Lord Gohda by returning his precious daughter, Kiku, from the hands of
    Lord Mei-Oh. Unfortunately, Rikimaru was caught in a disastrous rockfall during
    his escape and is still missing. The land of Lord Gohda remained peaceful after
    Mei-Oh’s attack, and Ayame, as agent of Gohda, continued to patrol the expansive
    territory. One day in her travels, Ayame came across a decimated village. She
    hoped to find survivors, but arrived too late. The ninjas of Hagakure died
    whispering the word “Kuroya” with their final breaths. As Ayame was about to
    leave, a young female ninja arrived and stood in her way. Her name was Rin,
    back from her training, and devastated to see her village in ruins. Squaring off
    with one another, the fate of the two ninjas became inextricably intertwined.

    My Tips: Take your time and analyze your victim’s patrol patterns. Get used to
             the controls.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin you can run out of the enclosure and Stealth Kill the
    Kunoichi who is walking away from you towards the right. If you want to stalk
    her first then simply Grapple up onto the wooden arch and pounce down on her
    when you are ready. Quickly grab the scroll(s) she drops and then quickly run
    along the path to the far end and climb the tower and pick up the HEALTH POTION
    and RED BOX ITEM (Small HP). Now get down from the tower and observe the gate
    and wall across the stream. There is a ninja behind there who patrols back and
    forth. When you can, grapple up onto the ledge and observe him below. Take your
    time and try to Stealth Kill him when his is as far to the right as possible and
    grab his scroll(s) as well. Next pass under the wooden archway that leads into
    the next area and then crouch and roll to the edge of the ledge on the left.
    There is a Kunoichi and a ninja in conversation below. You can try for the
    Double Stealth Kill but it is difficult or simply wait until they stop talking
    and as soon as they turn away from each other, jump and Stealth Kill the ninja.
    Quickly press CIRCLE to cancel the SK FMV and turn to kill the Kunoichi as well
    before she turns and spots you. Pick up the scrolls and go pick up the SMOKE
    BOMB in the alcove on the left of the wooden log structure. Then grapple up onto
    the wooden structure and slowly walk down the incline into the next area.
    
    At the bottom of the incline lean against the left wall and peek around the
    corner until the Kunoichi appears at the far left side. Observe her as she walks
    towards you and as soon as she goes behind the fence in front of you, go and
    lean up on the left side of the fence and peek around. If the ninja ahead is out
    of view, quickly Stealth Kill her, cancel the FMV (CIRCLE) and retreat once
    again behind the fence you were at. The ninja will soon see the dead Kunoichi
    and go into “!?” mode momentarily. As soon as he relaxes again, sneak up and
    Stealth Kill him as well. Now go up onto the wooden platform with the winch and
    grab the HEALTH POTION beside it and then head over to the other platform and
    approach the door to trigger the loading screen.
    
    As soon as you regain control on the other side, crouch and slowly move towards
    the edge so that you can observe the two ninjas below. One is patrolling left to
    right and the other is simply stationary with his back turned for the most part.
    Take your time and observe their movements and when ready, pounce down and
    eliminate them both either by Double or individual Stealth Kills. (NOTE: It is
    always advisable to cancel the Stealth Kill animations when dealing with two
    enemies in close proximity to minimize the chances of being spotted) Next
    continue down the incline and around the log wall corners and then crouch and
    peek around the last corner until you see the Kunoichi walking towards the water
    behind the fence. Observe her patter for a while and then as soon as she turns
    to walk towards the water, run up and Stealth Kill her, and quickly retreat if
    the guard ahead goes into “!?” mode. Otherwise, drag her body behind the fence
    and then crouch and wait to see the guard on the slope ahead begin his ascent.
    At that time quickly hightail it to the left along the wall and grapple up to
    the opening in the fence at the far end. Remain hanging and observe the enemy
    patrolling up here. Keep an eye out for the guard on the slope and when the
    coast is clear, climb up and dispatch the enemy right here. Grab the scrolls as
    always and then retreat back down to the lower level and again grapple and hang
    from the same ledge. The other guard will soon spot his fallen comrade and come
    over in “!?” mode. Wait for him to relax and watch out for his double take and
    then climb up and Stealth Kill him as well. Now hear as far left as you can and
    grapple up onto the ledge by the opening of the fence and hang there. Watch the
    Kunoichi as she patrols around the wooden hut and as soon as an opening presents
    itself, climb up and introduce her to the afterlife. Now crouch and look all the
    way to your right and slowly move closer to the ninja who is stationed in the
    far corner. When his back is turned, run up and Stealth Kill him. Now simply
    walk up towards the main house and the cutscene will kick in.
    
    
    ****************
    BOSS BATTLE: RIN
    ****************
    Rin is a relatively easy opponent to defeat. Your goal is simply to reduce her
    health to about 20-25HP and the cutscene will take over. Try to block whenever
    she combos and then retaliate with you’re your Azuma ninja skills as you open a
    good can of whoop ass on this youth. If you need to drink a HEALTH POTION,
    simply run around the house to buy the time you need. Additionally there is
    another HEALTH POTION in one of the wooden bamboo corners. The SMOKE BOMB you
    picked up along the way will also stun her for a few moments giving you a clear
    opening to unload some of Master Shiunsai’s favorite moves on this heart broken
    opponent. Once her Health has been reduced to the amount mentioned the cutscene
    will take over and the mission is complete.
    
    IMPORTANT: If you completed this mission by killing all 13 enemies you will then
               go to CHAPTER 2-2: DETERMINATION. If any enemies were left standing
               you’ll go to CHAPTER 2-1: DEPARTURES.

    My Tips: Take your time observing enemies that cross paths. Bring along a BLOW
             GUN dart if you have one.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you gain control immediately double jump up onto the pathway on your
    right and Stealth Kill the Kunoichi who is walking away. Grab her scroll(s) and
    now crouch and roll back to where you started. Two ninjas are having a
    conversation below. When they stop talking, wait for the patrolling one to walk
    behind the building and then quickly jump down and Stealth Kill the stationary
    ninja. Grab his scroll(s) and then retreat back up to where you started and
    crouch again. Wait for the patrolling ninja to come back around and discover his
    comrade and as soon as he resumes his patrol, jump down and remove him from
    Jyuzou’s payroll for good. Grab the 2 FLASH BOMBS in the Red Item Box found in
    the corner of one of the Bamboo dividers and then head back up onto the ledge
    from which you started. (At this point you could technically backtrack all the
    way to where Ayame’s mission began but since there are no enemies or Items that
    way, return to the pathway where you first killed the Kunoichi.)
    
    Follow the path until you get to the corner where you can see a ninja patrolling
    across the pool of water. Lean up on the left wall here and observe the
    stationed Kunoichi on your side. When she turns as far away as possible, run up
    and Stealth Kill her and grab her scroll(s) and the HEALTH POTION right beside
    her. Immediately crouch and roll into the water to avoid making noise and now
    swim across to the other side and then grapple and hang from the ledge as you
    wait for the patrolling ninja to walk back towards you. As soon as he turns
    away, climb up and Stealth Kill him as well. Grab whatever scroll(s) his corpse
    gives up and then crouch and observe the area below you. There are two
    patrolling enemies below. One is a ninja and the other a regular guard. Observe
    their patrol patterns and then roll down and pick up the RED BOX Item by the
    fence below. (I’ve gotten EGGS and SM HEALTH POTION at different times) Now lean
    up against the fence on the left corner and wait for the ninja to be at the
    closest point to you. As he begins to turn, come out and Stealth Kill him.
    Quickly cancel the SK animation (CIRCLE) and retreat behind the fence again to
    avoid detection and then wait for the alarmed guard to relax before timing and
    Stealth Killing him as well. Now simply go into the next area and climb the
    steps before entering the Crawl Space up top (“R1” + Forward).
    
    AS you exit on the other side quickly lean up against the left wall ahead and
    peek around to observe the guard patrolling up and down the following corridor.
    As soon as he turns away, run in and Stealth Kill him and grab his scroll(s).
    Continue on down this corridor and then lean up against the wooden fence on your
    right and peek around the corner at another Kunoichi patrolling in the next
    area. Watch out for her double take and then run up and end her misery by
    Stealth Killing her and grabbing the scroll(s). Now crouch as you make your way
    forward and then stop once you get to the end of the wooden fence. Observe the
    patrolling ninja up ahead. If you have a BLOWGUN dart then use it on him.
    Otherwise you will have to run in and Stealth Kill him as he makes his rather
    long walk to the left. Be careful though as he is apt to turn around and catch
    you. You can also pick up a GRENADE that is hidden in the bamboo woods here. Now
    simply crouch and wait for the guard on the other side of the river to make his
    way up onto the bridge. Stay just out of his range of vision and after his
    double take, run up and Stealth Kill him quickly. Grab his scroll(s) and then
    crouch to avoid being detected by the Kunoichi on the far end of the other side.
    Now roll along the left wall and then hide behind the little candle hut as you
    observe her turning habits. As soon as she turns away, double jump over and
    Stealth Kill her. Grab her scroll(s) and then simply drop down to the river’s
    edge and walk through the open gate to trigger the cutscene.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: Clearing Chapter 2-1 will unlock Chapter 3-1. To unlock Chapter 3-2
               you will first need to clear Chapter 2-2.
    
    NOTE: FROM THIS POINT ON I WILL NO LONGER TELL YOU TO PICK UP EACH SCROLL. BY
          NOW YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT SCROLLS SHOULD BE PICKED UP.

    My Tips: Take your time and observe enemy patrol patterns. Patience, not speed
             will make you a master at this game. If you have BLOWGUN darts, bring
             one or two.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, crouch and roll over to the ledge on your right by the
    pathway. Remain crouched and wait for the ninja to walk over to you. As soon as
    he turns, jump up and Stealth Kill him. Grab his scroll(s) and now drop down
    into the courtyard behind you to find a RED BOX Item containing two FLASH BOMBS
    in the corner. Now continue back up onto the path where you just killed the
    ninja and after the corner, roll into the water to enter without noise and then
    swim across to the opening on the other side. Grapple and hang from the ledge
    and now simply wait for the ninja to walk up the stairs and towards you. As soon
    as he turns away, climb up and Stealth Kill him. Take whatever Scroll(s) and
    Items his corpse gives up and now crouch and observe the scene below you. There
    is a Kunoichi and another ninja patrolling below. Check out their patrol habits
    and then roll down and grapple/hang from the dividing fence and manipulate your
    camera to keep an eye on their positions. Wait for the ninja to walk out of the
    area and then when the Kunoichi is right below you on the other side, climb up,
    drop down and Stealth Kill her. Grab the scroll(s) and quickly retreat around
    the fence again and grapple/hang once more. Wait for the ninja to return and
    discover the dead Kunoichi and once he relaxes again (“?”), stalk and Stealth
    Kill him too. Grab his scroll(s) and now head up the stairs in the next area and
    head through the Crawl Space by pressing “R1” + Forward.
    
    After you exit the Crawl Space, lean up against the left side and peek around
    the corner at a patrolling ninja in the next corridor. As soon as he begins to
    walk away, run up and Stealth Kill him. Grab his Scroll(s) and move slowly
    forward and then lean up against the wooden fence on your right and peek around
    at a Kunoichi who patrols the next portion of the path. Stealth Kill her as soon
    as she turns away and then return to the wooden fence and again lean and peek as
    you wait for a guard to patrol up from further up ahead. He will most likely
    discover the fallen Kunoichi, thereby running all the up to her body. This makes
    it even easier to Stealth Kill him as he relaxes and begins to walk back. Don’t
    forget to grab the RED BOX Item by the torch on your left to get another HEALTH
    POTION and now crouch and roll forward to the edge of the bamboo forest. Look
    diagonally left and you’ll see a ninja up ahead. Take your time as you observe
    his pattern and when he begins to walk towards the bridge, run up and quickly
    Stealth Kill him. Grab his scroll(s) and retreat while crouching because the
    guard on the other side of the river will come up onto the bridge and hopefully
    discover the fallen ninja. When he relaxes, run up and Stealth Kill him. Grab
    his scroll(s) and now crouch and roll across the bridge and now simply peek down
    at the Kunoichi patrolling along the river’s edge below. Take your time and then
    drop down and Stealth Kill her as well. Grab the final scroll(s) quickly as the
    screen will fade to black once the 10th enemy is dead.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: Clearing Chapter 2-2 will unlock Chapter 3-2. To unlock Chapter 3-1
               you will first need to clear Chapter 2-1.
    
    NOTE: FROM THIS POINT ON I WILL NO LONGER TELL YOU TO PICK UP EACH SCROLL. BY

    My Tips: Once you are following Jyuzou, use the rooftops only and always crouch
             when landing or moving around. Avoid the Innocent and press “R1” if
             moving into or through water.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you start out, turn right and run to the corner there. Now crouch and
    observe the Archer who is patrolling along the perimeter out here. When he is at
    his closets range and turns to walk away, run up and Stealth Kill him. Quickly
    grapple up onto the roof on your left and remain crouched. There is another
    Spear-Wielding guard patrolling along the perimeter who will certainly discover
    his fallen comrade. Once he resumes his patrol, jump down and Stealth Kill him
    on the little wooden bridge. Now grapple back onto the roof again and crouch as
    you move to the other side. Look down into main walkway between the buildings
    and you’ll notice that there are two guards patrolling down there. Wait for the
    one patrolling around the SE house to be out of view and then Stealth Kill the
    Archer who will walk right beneath you. Now grapple back up onto the same roof
    and wait for the other patrolling guard to come back around and get momentarily
    alarmed. Then drop down and Stealth Kill him as well. Now walk over the little
    bridge where the Archer patrolled and then lean up against the bamboo divider
    and observe the patrolling enemy atop the ledge by the perimeter buildings. When
    the coast is clear, run up and hang from the ledge as far to the right as you
    can. Wait for the right moment and then climb up and introduce him to the
    afterlife as well. Now grapple onto the roof and stealthily make your way along
    the rooftops to the last roof. There are two guards chatting down here. Take
    your time to divide and Stealth Kill both of them before moving to the doorway
    in the SW corner, which will lead you into the next area. (Following this exact
    route will assure you that the Innocent Geisha will never spot you)
    
    As soon as you gain control, double jump onto the left side there by the
    lanterns and follow Jyuzou as he walks along the corridor. Grab the Red Box Item
    (3 SMOKEBOMBS) and then quickly lean up against the left side of the doorframe
    to avoid detection when Jyuzou turns around. As soon as he continues his stroll,
    head through the doorway and grapple up onto the wall/ledge on your right. Then
    immediately grapple onto the N-Shaped building and crouch. Observe Jyuzou as he
    walks around the building and follow along while crouching on the rooftop and
    then grapple up onto the tall building next to the one you are on. Jyuzou will
    walk between the buildings and pause several times. Crouch and move to the NE
    corner of your rooftop and watch as he walks around the divider. Now move to the
    NW corner of the same rooftop to remain within sight and he will walk along the
    outside of the little wall besides you. Next, double jump and crouch upon
    landing on that same dividing wall and observe as Jyuzou walks down to the
    waters edge for a moment. Stay low and wait for him to walk back up towards you
    and then grapple up onto the large rooftop next to you as soon as he begins his
    walk along the bamboo fence. Move to the NW corner of this roof as he will cut
    through between these two buildings before continuing on to the left/west. Now
    double jump down onto the U-Shaped building and immediately crouch. Observe as
    Jyuzou walks past the door, pauses and then returns back towards the door again.
    Stay low because he will turn around to look once more before finally walking up
    the steps and heading through the door.
    
    At this point if you’ve followed my strategy exactly by killing every guard in
    the first area and not being spotted, you can simply head to the door and
    trigger the Boss Battle. You have already earned enough points to achieve a
    Grandmaster Ranking. Otherwise you can always kill off the last three enemies in
    this area to get the required amount of points. (One is stationed in the SW
    corner of the area between the bamboo fence and the building and the remaining
    two are patrolling in the NE area and meet in the corner of the level. Use the
    rooftops to get the drop on all of them and beware of the Innocent Civilian
    patrolling outside of the bamboo fence by the waterside)
    
    
    ***********************
    BOSS BATTLE: TATSUKICHI
    ***********************
    Tatsukichi is a joke of an opponent. She has a poisonous sword that will affect
    you but only 8 HP against your 100. Lock on to her by pressing and holding “R2”
    and simply block one or two of her thrusts before unleashing a full-fledged
    combo on her. If that doesn’t finish her off then repeat. She must be the
    easiest Boss Battle in Tenchu history.
    
    NOTE: If you want to see a hidden cutscene, simply run right up to her and throw
          her (Towards + CIRCLE). Instead of the customary throw animation, Ayame
          will simply karate chop her to the back of the neck and the initial
          cutscene will be slightly different.

                   Take Advantage of the Dark
                   Do not Kill any Villagers
    My Tips: Use the rooftops to your advantage. Be patient. Use stealth whenever
             landing on moving through water. After every kill, retreat to safety
             before continuing on.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, turn right and roll all the way to the corner. Quickly
    grapple up onto the rooftop across the canal and then slowly move up to where
    the spear-wielding guard is patrolling the little bridge. Be careful because an
    Innocent Geisha will walk this way as well. Wait until she turns and leaves and
    then jump down and Stealth Kill him. Quickly grapple back onto the roof and
    crouch as you move to the spot where you can see the second guard who is
    patrolling another little bridge.(You should be on the NW roof in this area)
    When the coast is clear, drop down and Stealth Kill him as well. Quickly grapple
    back up onto the roof and now stealthily move to the roof in the SE corner of
    the area. You should be right above a stationary guard below. Observe the two
    guards across the water that are patrolling and when the nearer one climbs the
    steps, roll down and Stealth Kill the stationary guard beneath you. Quickly
    retreat back onto the roof and crouch again. Now wait until the nearer guard
    discovers his fallen comrade and as soon as he returns to calm (He’ll probably
    be walking in the water), jump down and Stealth Kill him while keeping “R1”
    pressed for stealth. Now quickly head to the SW corner of the map and grapple up
    onto the rooftops above the ledge. Make your way stealthily along until you see
    the patrolling guard in the back of the last house. Stealth Kill him when he is
    walking back and quickly grapple back onto the roof (Note: Try to SK him when he
    is away from the corner to avoid detection from the guard patrolling the front)
    Now crouch and move to the other side and then drop down and Stealth Kill the
    archer patrolling the front of this house. Grab the HEALTH POTION next to the
    doorway and then head through the door.
    
    As soon as you gain control in the next area you should crouch. There is only
    one innocent geisha walking up and down the narrow path. My advice is to roll
    along the right side while waiting and using the little wooden huts for cover.
    Once you get to the far side and the Geisha is well out of view, cross to the
    left side and grab the Red Item Box, which should contain one RICEBALL. Use the
    stone lantern as cover and wait for the Geisha to again begin her long trek up
    the path and then roll towards the doorway.
    
    If the guard ahead has his back turned you can quickly double jump/run up and
    Stealth Kill him. As soon as you finish, grapple up onto the N-Shaped building
    and crouch as you move to NW corner. Observe the Guitar toting Kunoichi below
    and when she walks past you, drop down and Stealth Kill her. Grapple back onto
    the roof and now grapple up onto the taller roof beside you. Move to the NE
    corner and wait for another Guitar Kunoichi to come right beneath you. Drop down
    and Stealth Kill her as well. Now head back to the SW corner of the fence that
    divides this area in two and then grapple up and immediately crouch. Observe the
    Archer that patrols the stairs right outside from where you are. There is also a
    patrolling guard further ahead. When the further enemy is safely hidden behind
    the building, jump or roll down and Stealth Kill the Archer at the foot of the
    stairs. Drag him back down if needed. Now run onto the dock on your left and
    grab the BLOWGUN Dart hidden in the Red Item Box. There are only two enemies
    left. Grapple up onto the wooden bamboo fence and quickly grapple up onto the
    rooftop of the white houses there. Remain crouched and wait for the patrolling
    guard to walk between your house and the taller one next door and then drop down
    and Stealth Kill him. Now move along the bamboo fence until you are leaning up
    against the NW wall of the U-Shaped building. Observe the last enemy as he
    patrols back and forth in a predictable manner. When he turns his back, run up
    and Stealth Kill him as well. Now simply walk up the stairs and to the door to
    trigger the Boss Battle.
    
    
    ***********************
    BOSS BATTLE: TATSUKICHI
    ***********************
    Tatsukichi is a joke of an opponent. She has a poisonous sword that will affect
    you but only 8 HP against your 100. Lock on to her by pressing and holding “R2”
    and simply block one or two of her thrusts before unleashing a full-fledged
    combo on her. If that doesn’t finish her off then repeat. She must be the
    easiest Boss Battle in Tenchu history.
    
    NOTE: If you want to see a hidden cutscene, simply run right up to her and throw
          her (Towards + CIRCLE). Instead of the customary throw animation, Ayame
          will simply karate chop her to the back of the neck and the initial
          cutscene will be slightly different. (Gameplay and mission branching will
          not be affected)

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you gain control, double jump over the ditch immediately in front of
    you and then crouch and roll 5 times right up to the dog and Stealth Kill him.
    (You should have more than enough time to do this) Now continue to roll forward
    into the little cave and pick up the FLASH BOMB. Move through the short cave and
    then hug the right wall and observe the guard stationed outside. As soon as he
    turns his back, hug the opposite wall and move almost to the mouth opening of
    the cave. Now simply wait for the other guard to walk up to the first guard and
    as soon as he turns so that both backs are turned, run up between them and
    execute an easy Double Stealth Kill. Now grapple up onto the scaffolding and
    grab the HEALTH POTION and then enter the Bougetsu Cave.
    
    Move up the initial corridor and then hug the left wall at the bend. Now wait
    for the samurai to come to the nearest point and as soon as he begins to turn,
    run around and Stealth Kill him. Quickly drag his body into the doorway and then
    slowly crouch and creep up the incline just high enough to see the archer
    stationed in the corner. There is a bottomless pit ahead so wait until he turns
    to his right and then run and double jump over the pit and Stealth Kill him.
    Immediately crouch and look down the long corridor from this vantage point. A
    patrolling guard will soon appear. As soon as he turns, double jump over the
    second bottomless pit and run up to Stealth Kill him as well. Now head right
    into the dead end alcove and look up. Grapple and hang from the left ledge and
    wait for the guard to walk right up to you. As soon as he turns, quickly climb
    up and Stealth Kill him and crouch. Now move just a bit down the incline and
    then wait for the samurai below to walk out into the corridor. As soon as he
    turns to continue walking, run down and Stealth Kill him too. Now enter the room
    on your right and pick up the 2 RICEBALLS in the Red Box Item overlooking the
    bottomless pit. Next, grapple across the pit and climb up and immediately hug
    the left wall and peek around the corner. Observe the guard who is patrolling
    this corridor as well as one way at the end. When the guard is at his nearest
    point and turns, remove him from the payroll for good. Now crouch and move down
    slowly and wait for the second patrolling guard to reappear. Wait for his double
    take and then rush down to Stealth Kill him as well. Now backtrack back to the
    last samurai you killed and enter that room by hugging the left wall and peeking
    around the corner. When the patrolling guard appears, wait for him to turn and
    then Stealth Kill him as well. Exit the room the same way you came from and head
    back up the incline and look across at the guard patrolling the bridge ahead.
    
    When he is at his nearest point and turns, double jump across, run up and
    Stealth Kill him. Quickly drag his body back and then crouch at the beginning of
    the bridge. Notice the two cave openings on either side below the bridge and
    then wait for the archer to show himself way up ahead. Use a BLOWGUN Dart to
    kill him or wait until he walks away and then roll across the bridge and keep
    rolling through the streaming water to get close enough for a Stealth Kill.
    There is a BLOWGUN Dart hidden in a Red Box Item in the little alcove on the
    right. Now follow the path the archer was on and turn left and crouch through
    the water, down the incline until you come to the opening, which looks across
    into the opposite cave. Use your BLOWGUN Dart to kill the patrolling guard when
    he is at the opening and turns. Now backtrack and head left to go into the river
    warp.
    
    Once you regain control keep “R1” pressed and lean against the right wall and
    peek out. There is a patrolling samurai here and another patrolling guard in the
    room on the left, which is out of view. When the samurai turns to walk out, use
    the last BLOWGUN Dart to kill him. (If you don’t have any then you’ll simply
    have to take a chance of being spotted and roll up to Stealth Kill him). Now
    wait for the second patrolling guard to discover him and then when he returns to
    a calm state, stealthily hug the right corner and observe his movements. When
    you are ready to go in for the kill, roll up to him to avoid making noise and
    then Stealth Kill him. There is a HEALTH POTION in the first alcove of the long
    corridor leading to the cave opening looking over the bottomless pit as well.
    Lastly, simply run up the last inclined corridor and out into the fresh midnight
    air to trigger the cutscene.

             BLOWGUN Darts for the level. Use Stealth whenever moving through watery
             areas to avoid making noise.
    
    
    **********************
    BOSS BATTLE: KUMAGOROU
    **********************
    Kumagorou is a Bear that you will have to defeat in order to begin traversing
    the actual level. For starters, he is pretty slow compared to you so use your
    speed and agility to your advantage. If you have an EXPLODING ARROW or GRENADE
    handy then it will eat away a nice chunk of his health as well. Try to block his
    attacks and then unleash 4 and 5 hit combos back as quickly as you can. Grab
    moves don’t work against him so don’t even try. Also, he is completely
    defenseless from the sides and behind so use that to your advantage as well.
    Overall he really shouldn’t give you too much trouble.
    
    NOTE: Apparently Kumagorou is related to the Bear Boss that inhabited the Caves
          (“Free The Captive Ninja”) in Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    Once you have defeated Kumagorou, head through the doorway and grab the Red Box
    Item in the alcove on your left. (Depending on your present health it may be
    EGGS, SM HEALTH POTION or HEALTH POTION) Now move down the corridor and then hug
    the right wall as you approach the corner. Observe the patrolling ninja and as
    soon as he begins to walk away, Stealth Kill him. Move to the next corridor and
    observe the stationary ninja at the end of it. Use a BLOWGUN Dart to take him
    out and wait for about 30 seconds to see if the patrolling enemy (which you
    can’t see) on the left discovers him. If not, hug the let wall and peek around
    to observe said enemy. Notice that there is running water here so the only way
    to stealthily move is by rolling. When he turns to walk back into the room, roll
    up and Stealth Kill him. Now roll back to the opening of the room and look down
    the long corridor at a ninja who patrols there. When he is out of sight, roll
    and then run on dry land into the corridor and lean up against the wall in the
    alcove on your left. Wait for the ninja to walk all the way to you and when he
    turns around, Stealth Kill him too. No follow the path and hug the right wall at
    the bend. There is another ninja patrolling this room with the cave opening
    overlooking the bottomless pit. When he is at the nearest point, wait for him to
    turn and Stealth Kill him as well. If the Kunoichi is already at the opposite
    cave mouth you should immediately crouch and retreat upon killing him. Backtrack
    now to the ninja you killed with the BLOWGUN Dart and then head down the watery
    incline to the river warp.
    
    Once you regain control, hug the left wall and listen to the Kunoichi/Ninja
    conversation (Unless someone was alerted earlier) and wait for the Kunoichi to
    walk away. Now shoot the ninja with a BLOWGUN Dart to kill him and take cover
    again behind the wall in case the Kunoichi discovers him. Once the calm resumes,
    hug the right wall and observe the Kunoichi’s patrol pattern in the watery room
    on the right. When she walks away, roll through the water and Stealth Kill her.
    Roll back up to the dead ninja and now roll out into the next corridor
    overlooking the bridge. Grab the HAND CLAWS in the Red Box Item found in the
    rear alcove and then crouch and move up until you are on the wooden bridge.
    Observe the ninja who is stationed on the far side and as soon as he turns his
    back, run up and Stealth Kill him. Now jump over to the far side ledge and
    crouch as you look down the incline. A ninja will patrol in and out of the room
    on the left. Wait for him to just walk out of view before running down and
    Stealth Killing him. Quickly retreat back up to where you were or drag his body
    back out of the room if the Ki-meter is ticking down. Now continue along the
    corridor and hug the left wall and observe the enemy who patrols in and out from
    the wooden walkway. As soon as he begins to turn, run up, Stealth Kill, cancel
    the FMV by pressing CIRCLE and retreat. A nearby ninja will quickly discover the
    body and run over. As soon as he returns to “?” mode, run up and Stealth Kill
    him. Now backtrack to the ninja who patrolled in and out of the room when you
    were on the incline and hug the left wall of the room entryway. Peek around and
    watch as the patrolling enemy walks in through the other doorway. As soon as he
    turns to walk out, Stealth Kill him. Grab the HEALTH POTION in the Red Item Box
    form the room and now walk out onto the wooden walkway. At the far corner, lean
    up against the wall on your left and peek around at the Kunoichi who is
    patrolling the corridor up ahead. When she turns to walk away, run up and double
    jump at her to Stealth Kill her before she turns back around. Now crouch and
    move towards the exit of the cave and stop short at the top of the incline. Use
    your last BLOWGUN Dart to kill the ninja who walks right up to the doorway and
    then patiently wait to see if the nearby patrolling enemy discovers the body.
    
    If not, roll down a little to see his pattern and when he walks away, quickly
    roll out and head left into the little cave. Grab the 3 SPINNERS in the Red Box
    Item and then crouch and move up the incline just high enough in order to see
    the ninja patrolling in and out of the other opening. As soon as he turns to
    walk out, run up, Stealth Kill him, cancel the FMV and retreat back into the
    little cave. The other guard will most certainly see him. Once he calms down you
    can take your time predicting his pattern and then dispatch him in style.
    Afterwards simply walk into the doorway on the SW corner to end the mission.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: If you completed this mission without being spotted at all you will
               unlock “Chapter 6-2: WHAT LURKS IN THE SHADOW”. If you were spotted
               at least once, you will unlock “Chapter 6-1: THE BLIND MASSEUSE”. You
               can always go back and try again to unlock the other path.

                      Simply crouch and turn around and then grapple up onto the
                      ledge there. You can now jump down into the hidden area and
                      then exit through the left to get to the Sub Boss Battle
                      without having to take the long way. (This walkthrough does
                      not follow the shortcut path)
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, jump up onto the little hut roof on your left and creep to
    the other side. There are two patrolling enemies here. Double jump over to the
    one who is walking up the slope and Stealth Kill him as you are coming down. Now
    drop down into the riverbed and then grapple and hang from the ledge next to the
    bridge. Wait for the guard to turn around and walk away and then climb up and
    quickly Stealth Kill him. Now head through the entryway and grapple up onto the
    next plateau and then grapple and hang from the next ledge. Now observe the
    white cloth samurai who will walk right up to you. As soon as he begins to walk
    away, climb up and Stealth Kill him. Immediately crouch and look ahead as you
    should see another patrolling guard walking along the perimeter wall ahead.
    (Otherwise wait for him to show up) When he is in the corner and turns to walk
    back up, run up behind him and Stealth Kill him as well. Now move along the
    perimeter and grab the SM HEALTH POTION or HEALTH POTION in the Red Box Item and
    crouch to observe the area below you. There are two patrolling guards and an
    Innocent Civilian down there so wait for the visible guard to walk to his
    nearest point and kill him with a BLOWGUN Dart. Remain crouched and wait for the
    white cloth samurai to discover the dead enemy and run up. As soon as he returns
    to calm, kill him with the second BLOWGUN Dart. Now drop down and crouch as you
    move to the closest corner. Grapple up onto the roof ahead and remain crouched
    to avoid detection by the Innocent villager. When he isn’t looking your way,
    roll down and use the small adjoining hut for cover. Now roll along the outside
    of the short fence all the way down to the gate that will lead you to the next
    area.
    
    As soon as you regain control, crocu hand move along the right short fence
    towards the end. Use your camera manipulation skills to observe the approaching
    guitar-toting Kunoichi on your right. Wait for her to turn and commit to her
    walk before running up and Stealth Killing her. Then quickly drag her corpse
    back up the path from where you came. Now grapple up onto the roof of the
    perimeter house in front of you and crouch as you wait for the approaching enemy
    below. When he is right below you, drop down and Stealth Kill him. (The white
    cloth samurai stationed ahead will not see you) Next, grapple back up onto the
    same roof and then drop down on the outside of the short fence leading up to his
    position. Crouch and roll until you are behind him and then jump over and
    Stealth Kill him as well. Now head over to the river but DO NOT step foot onto
    the bridge as yet. Instead jump into the water and swim through the opening on
    the right side of the screen as it will take you to a secret area.
    
    Once you regain control, jump out onto the left bank and run to the corner of
    the hut to grab an EXPLOSIVE BOX in the Red Box Item. Now backtrack back to the
    bridge and highlight the EXPLOSIVE BOX before walking/grappling up onto the
    bridge.
    
    
    **********************
    SUB BOSS BATTLE: AYAME
    **********************
    As soon as the fight begins, drop the EXPLOSIVE BOX to damage her as she rushes
    in. Now quickly run up and try to hit her while she is down. Use your blocking
    skills to stop as many of her slashes as possible and quickly retaliate with a
    volley of your own combos. I recommend locking on to her and using the strafe
    technique to avoid her Shurikens and also don’t try to grab/throw her as she
    will most likely win that coin toss. FLASHBOMBS will stun her long enough to
    land a full-fledged combo but try not to use all of your ammo on her as a more
    fierce battle lies ahead. Once her HP is down to around 20 or so the battle will
    end and a cutscene will kick in.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH CONT:
    As soon as you gain control move slightly to your right and then grapple up onto
    the right building through the doorway. You will most likely land on the middle
    ledge so double jump up onto the roof. Now look down between you and the gate
    and you’ll see the approaching enemy. Quickly drop down and Stealth Kill him as
    soon as he turns the corner and then retreat back up onto the same roof. Now
    crouch and wait for another guitar-toting Kunoichi to appear from the far side.
    She will undoubtedly discover the dead body and run up in an alarmed state. As
    soon as she calms down, drop down and Stealth Kill her as well. Head back up
    onto the roof and look at your map. You can either head to the RED DOT and enter
    the attic into the next area or decide to kill the remaining two enemies in the
    area. If you decide to kill the enemies beware of the Innocent Geisha patrolling
    nearby. (There is a patrolling guard on the southern perimeter pathway and
    another guitar-toting Kunoichi crossing paths with the Geisha in the neighboring
    alleyway)
    
    Once you’ve entered the crawlspace into the attic, grab the 5 SHURIKEN in the
    Red Box Item and then head for the opening in the ground and drop down onto the
    top of the stairs and crouch. This can be a tricky section. Wait for the guitar-
    toting Kunoichi to appear at the foot of the stairway and as soon as she is out
    of sight again, run down and hug the left wall to peek around into the keg-
    filled room. If the other patrolling guard has his back to you then quickly
    Stealth Kill the Kunoichi, cancel the FMV and return up to the top of the stairs
    and grapple back up through the hole into the attic. (The other guard may walk
    up the stairs upon discovering the dead Kunoichi) Once the coast is clear, head
    back down the stairs and again hug the left wall and peek at the guard. When
    ready, rush out and Stealth Kill him. Now grapple up onto the kegs and follow
    the perimeter ledge around to grab the HEALTH POTION in the corner. Next turn
    around and look up. There are some beams up top that you can grapple up onto.
    Once up there you’ll see another Red Box Item. The MAP is inside of this Red Box
    Item. (If you grab the MAP you will unlock Chapter 7-2 and if you leave the MAP
    you will unlock Chapter: 7-1)
    
    Once you’ve decided, drop back down and now hug the left side of the doorway
    leading into the final room. There are three enemies in this room, one atop the
    balcony on your left, the main guy you can see patrolling ahead, and another
    stationary guard in the far right room. When the visible guard is at his nearest
    point and turns around, run in and quickly Stealth Kill him. Now grapple and
    hang from the balcony ledge next to the staircase. (Aim for the portion just
    below the banister) Now wait for the patrolling guard to walk past you and then
    climb up, hop over the railing and Stealth Kill him as well. Now drop back down
    and head to the left side of the furthers doorway and use your camera skills to
    safely observe the stationary guard. As soon as he turns to his left, dash in
    and Stealth Kill him. Now you have a choice without consequences:
    
    
    CHOICE A - NO BOSS BATTLE: Continue through the wooden sliding door and down the
               incline to trigger a cutscene that bypasses the NASU Boss Battle.
               Afterwards, simply lean up against the white swivel door and crouch.
               Observe the guitar-toting Kunoichi ahead. After here double take atop
               the staircase, run up and Stealth Kill her on her way down and then
               simply walk to the bottom corner to complete the mission.
    
    OR
    
    
    CHOICE B – BOSS BATTLE: Enter through the middle door and trigger the NASU Boss
                            Battle.
    
    
    *****************
    BOSS BATTLE: NASU
    *****************
    Nasu is a most formidable opponent and the small quarters don’t make this battle
    any easier. As soon as you start out, unleash a full-fledged combo on him which
    should send him flying. Quickly highlight the 5 SHURIKENS you picked up earlier
    and as soon as he gets up, unload them one by one into him. Watch out when you
    see a short FMV of his gleaming blade because he will open a serious can of
    whoop ass on you if you aren’t quick. Try to block as much as you can and if you
    can get behind him, unleash another combo. If you still have your second
    FLASHBOMB then use it to momentarily stun him and attack like mad. Don’t try to
    grab/throw him because he will bear hug you and tell you how: “YOU STARTED
    THIS!” Thank god for your NINJA REBIRTH, you’ll need it. CALTROPS are also
    extremely useful against him but don’t step on them yourself.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH CONT:
    Once Nasu has been defeated and you regain control, simply lean up against the
    white swivel door and crouch. Observe the guitar-toting Kunoichi ahead. After
    here double take atop the staircase, run up and Stealth Kill her on her way down
    and then simply walk to the bottom corner to complete the mission.
    
    
    
    IMPORTANT: If you picked up the MAP you will have unlocked CHAPTER 7-2: FOR WHOM
               THE BELL TOLLS. If you did NOT pick up the MAP then you will have
               unlocked CHAPTER 7-1: A SISTER’S PROMISE.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you gain control, run and drop down into the riverbed below. Now
    grapple and hang from the opposing ledge on the right side of the bridge and
    wait for the guitar-toting Kunoichi to walk towards the bridge. She will pause,
    turn to you and then turn to her right. When she does this, quickly climb up and
    Stealth Kill her. Now proceed through the entryway and grapple up onto the ledge
    in back. Grapple up onto the second ledge as well and now roll along the short
    fence on your left all the way to the lantern across the way. Remain crouched
    and turn right to observe the stationary Kunoichi stationed up ahead. When she
    turns her back to you, run up and Stealth Kill her then quickly crouch again.
    Now highlight your BLOWGUN and look down below at the patrolling guard. (There
    are three total) Kill him with your BLOWGUN Dart and quickly crouch again and
    wait for the other two guards to become alarmed. As soon as they calm down, kill
    another with a second BLOWGUN Dart and again crouch. If the remaining guard goes
    into “!” mode at any point, then quickly roll all the way back to the little
    alcove behind you and hide in case he comes up to investigate. Once the coast is
    clear he will go back into the little courtyard so simply move around the ditch
    and roll onto the roof beside him and remain crouched. When he turns his back,
    drop down and Stealth Kill him. Now go and grab the AMULET in the Red Box Item
    hidden next to the house on the perimeter wall. Now take a Sunday stroll down
    the path and up to the door heading to the next area.
    
    As soon as you regain control, crouch and move towards the edge of the short
    fence. Notice the guard walking towards the house on your right and then when he
    is safely out of range, grapple up to the house immediately in front of you.
    Remain crouched while on the roof and watch as the guard retraces his steps back
    into view. Also, a Innocent Geisha will appear in the far right corner and walk
    all the way towards you (She patrols the entire perimeter and often turns) Wait
    until she is past your house and at the far end before double jumping across to
    Stealth Kill the guard as he is out front of the neighboring house. Then quickly
    grapple up onto that roof and remain crouched. Look to your left until you spot
    the Geisha again and stay hidden until she walks past you and turns the corner
    on your right. Now highlight your FLASHBOMB and double jump onto the bridge to
    trigger the Sub Boss Battle. (You can also jump into the river and swim to the
    right to enter a secret area with a Red Box Item, then backtrack but beware the
    Geisha)
    
    
    **********************
    SUB BOSS BATTLE: AYAME
    **********************
    As soon as the fight begins, drop a FLASHBOMB to stun her as she rushes in. Now
    quickly unleash a serious combo and knock her down. Run up and try to hit her
    again while she is down. Use your blocking skills to stop as many of her slashes
    as possible and quickly retaliate with a volley of your own combos. I recommend
    locking on to her and using the strafe technique to avoid her Shurikens and also
    don’t try to grab/throw her as she will most likely win that coin toss.
    FLASHBOMBS will stun her long enough to land a full-fledged combo but try not to
    use all of your ammo on her as a more fierce battle lies ahead. Once her HP is
    down to around 20 or so the battle will end and a cutscene will kick in.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH CONT:
    As soon as you regain control, step to the right and grapple up onto the right
    building through the doorway. Chances are you’ll drop down onto the middle ledge
    so quickly double jump up onto the roof and then crouch. Observe as a white
    cloth samurai appears at the far end. Wait for him to walk away and the jump
    from roof to roof until you are on the roof that is marked with a red dot on
    your map. Crouch and move to the open hatch and crawl into the attic. (NOTE: We
    let these goons live because we already have enough points for an Assassin
    Ranking and if you get spotted after coming this far it was all for nothing)
    
    Once inside the attic, grab the 5 SHURIKEN(Sometimes CALTROPS) and then drop
    down through the hole onto the staircase below. Now head down the stairs and it
    is time to make a decision. There is a crawlspace under the kegs in front of you
    that contains a Red Item Box. In it is a MAP. (If you head through the
    crawlspace and grab the MAP you will unlock Chapter 7-2 and if you climb atop
    the kegs and crouch, thereby leaving the MAP you will unlock Chapter: 7-1)
    
    GET THE MAP: If you choose to enter the crawlspace and pick up the MAP, which is
                 in a Red Box Item, then stop short just before exiting at the far
                 side to observe the scene. There is a stationary guard just off to
                 your left here and a guitar-toting Kunoichi patrolling from the far
                 room into this one and back again. Watch her as she saunters in and
                 turns around. Wait for her to walk halfway into the other room and
                 turn left. Now exit while Mr. Stationary is looking away and
                 quickly Stealth Kill him. Now drag the body behind the two kegs in
                 the right corner and then grapple up onto the kegs and crouch as
                 you await the return of the Kunoichi. Wait for her to turn and do a
                 double take and then drop down, run up and Stealth Kill her.
    
    LEAVE THE MAP: If you want to avoid the MAP then grapple up onto the Kegs and
                   immediately crouch. The stationary guard is on the other side and
                   a guitar-toting Kunoichi will soon walk into the room as well.
                   Wait for her to do a double take and then drop down to Stealth
                   Kill the guard. Quickly retreat and grapple up onto the other two
                   kegs and remain crouched. She will turn and see his corpse which
                   will momentarily alarm her. Once she returns to her patrol, wait
                   for the double take again and then drop down and Stealth kill her
                   as well.
    
    Now run up the stairs on your left to grab the HEALTH POTION in the corner and
    then drop down. Now you have a choice without consequences:
    
    
    CHOICE A - NO BOSS BATTLE: Continue through the wooden sliding door and down the
               incline to trigger a cutscene that bypasses the NASU Boss Battle.
               Afterwards, simply lean up against the white swivel door and crouch.
               Observe the guitar-toting Kunoichi ahead. After here double take atop
               the staircase, run up and Stealth Kill her on her way down and then
               simply walk to the bottom corner to complete the mission.
    
    OR
    
    
    CHOICE B – BOSS BATTLE: Enter through the middle door and trigger the NASU Boss
                            Battle.

    BOSS BATTLE: NASU
    *****************
    Nasu is a most formidable opponent and the small quarters don’t make this battle
    any easier. As soon as you start out, unleash a full-fledged combo on him which
    should send him flying. Quickly highlight the 5 SHURIKENS you picked up earlier
    and as soon as he gets up, unload them one by one into him. Watch out when you
    see a short FMV of his gleaming blade because he will open a serious can of
    whoop ass on you if you aren’t quick. Try to block as much as you can and if you
    can get behind him, unleash another combo. If you still have your second
    FLASHBOMB then use it to momentarily stun him and attack like mad. Don’t try to
    grab/throw him because he will bear hug you and tell you how: “YOU STARTED
    THIS!” Thank god for your NINJA REBIRTH, you’ll need it. CALTROPS are also a
    very useful Item against NASU but be careful not to step on your own demise.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH CONT:
    Once Nasu has been defeated and you regain control, simply lean up against the
    white swivel door and then run down the unguarded corridor and down the red
    staircase to the bottom corner to complete the mission.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: If you picked up the MAP you will have unlocked CHAPTER 7-2: FOR WHOM
               THE BELL TOLLS. If you did NOT pick up the MAP then you will have
               unlocked CHAPTER 7-1: A SISTER’S PROMISE.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, crouch and look up the stairs. As soon as the guard starts
    walking by towards the right, run up and Stealth kill him. Now head through the
    wooden sliding door, down the staircase and then hug the left wall at the bottom
    to peek at the two patrolling guards in this room. Wait till they are both at
    there nearest positions and as soon as the Bald Monk starts to turn around, run
    up, Stealth Kill, cancel the FMV and quickly Stealth Kill the other guard as
    well. Now crouch at the top of the stairway leading to the cellar and watch for
    the patrolling guard below. Use the BLOWGUN Dart to kill him and remain where
    you are. There is a guard through a gate on the right side of this hallway who
    might spot the dead enemy and briefly go on alert. Once the coast is clear, lean
    up against the left wall and make your way down the stairs until you can peek
    into the room behind the gate. Observe the enemy’s patrol patterns and when you
    have an opportunity, run past him and left into the next corridor. Now quickly
    head into the alcove and through the crawlspace.
    
    Remain crouched as you exit the crawlspace and look up at the ledge across the
    water. When the guard isn’t looking, grapple and hang from the ledge. Wait for
    him to walk towards the swivel door and quickly climb up and Stealth Kill him.
    You could go through the swivel door but in all likelihood the patrolling
    Kunoichi will spot you so turn around and double jump back down to the
    crawlspace and grab the AMULET in the Red Box Item found in the corner and then
    head back through the crawlspace into the cellar again. Now stealthily move back
    to the beginning of the hallway where the guard behind the gate is and then
    grapple up onto the ledge on the right through the doorway and head back into
    the room with the two dead enemies from before. Now head through the swivel door
    in the corner and crouch.
    
    This is a pretty tricky area to pass without being spotted. There are two
    enemies in here; a patrolling Kunoichi who will spot you even if you hug the
    left wall at the corner and a stationary guard right behind the corner. I
    recommend crouching and slowly moving forward so that you can see the Kunoichi.
    Wait for her to turn and walk away and then throw your RICEBALL towards the
    ledge ahead. The stationary guard will walk towards it and eat it. Quickly run
    up and Stealth Kill him, cancel the FMV and run up and Stealth Kill the Kunoichi
    as well. If she spots you just kill her as quickly as you can, she’ll be the
    only one who’s seen you all night. (If done quickly enough you should be able to
    take them both though) There are 2 DECOY BELLS in a Red Box Item hidden down in
    the far corner of the ledge if you want them.(Watch out for the grates though
    and the shooting spear from the opposite side) Now crouch and move to the
    opening that looks down into the room below. Wait for the guard to come right
    under you and as soon as he begins to walk, drop down and Stealth Kill him.
    Quickly drag the body to the rear right corner and now hug the right side of the
    exit door and wait for the patrolling Bald Monk to appear. Wait for him to turn
    and do a double take and then dash out and Stealth Kill him as well. Now crouch
    and move to the foot of the stairwell and now wait until you see a patrolling
    Kunoichi appear up top. As soon as she begins to turn, run up and Stealth Kill
    her.
    
    Continue around and you’ll see the swivel door that we avoided earlier in the
    watery room with the AMULET. Grab the EGG and or the SM HEALTH POTION on the
    small shelving unit next to it and then crouch hand move towards the sliding
    door. Stop short to avoid opening it and keep and eye on your ki-meter. Don your
    first CHAMELEON SPELL when it is at its highest and quickly dash out and Stealth
    Kill the patrolling guard. Now quickly drag his body back into the room via the
    sliding door and then hug the left wall to open the sliding door. A patrolling
    Kunoichi will shortly appear at the corner. (If she doesn’t, run into the room
    briefly and back again through the sliding door) Wait for her to turn and walk
    out, do a double take and then dash out quickly to Stealth Kill her. You can now
    grab the FIREWORKS in the Red Box Item atop the large shelving unit across from
    the sliding door and then make your way to the foot of the next staircase. There
    are two guards up her so don your second CHAMELEON SPELL and run up the
    staircase and get behind the stationary guard in the back. When the Bald Monk
    has his back to you, Stealth Kill the stationary enemy, cancel the FMV and
    quickly Stealth Kill the Bald Monk as well. Head around the corner now and down
    the staircase to the wooden sliding door and enter the room. There is only a cat
    in here and although it may get alarmed, it can’t spot you so grab the HEALTH
    POTION in the far corner and exit back through the brown sliding door, head up
    the stairs and through the swivel door on your left. Select the SMOKEBOMBS and
    head through the golden sliding door to trigger the Boss Battle.
    
    
    ********************
    BOSS BATTLE: SHINOGI
    ********************
    Shinogi is not too fierce of an opponent although he certainly has the ability
    to take you down if you aren’t prepared. For starters he has a helluva long
    combo attack that can eat away a good chunk of your HP. Try to block and be
    aggressive in your return volley of attack. His blocking skills are sub par. Be
    aware that he may try to kick rivets out of the floor in your face which will
    temporarily stun you and leave you open to attack. If you see him gearing up to
    do this, quickly roll away and then unleash your attack from the side. SMOKE
    BOMBS and GRENADES are highly effective on him. If you need a moment to drink a
    HEALTH POTION, run up the staircase as he will often procrastinate before coming
    up after you. With your two SMOKEBOMBS and quick volley combos he should perish
    in no time.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you gain control head up the staircase and lean up against the wall
    on the right next to the sliding door. While leaning, manipulate your camera
    back and forth to see what the enemy is doing through the crack in the door. As
    soon as he is turned away, run in and Stealth Kill him. Now head down the stairs
    and then lean up against the left wall at the bottom and use your camera
    manipulation skills to observe the two patrolling enemies in this next room. As
    soon as the bald monk walks out of the room and the remaining foe has his back
    to you, run in and Stealth Kill him. Now quickly drag the body back to the
    staircase and take the same position again by the wall. Now wait for the monk to
    return and then when he begins to walk away, run up and Stealth Kill him as
    well. Now go pick up the HEALTH POTION on the wooden ledge ahead. At this point
    you can do one of two things:
    
        PATH A:  “THE ROTATING DOOR”         |       PATH B: “THE SHORTCUT”

    WALKTHROUGH:
    When you begin, grapple up onto the tall left gatepost and crouch. Now observe
    the scene below you. There is an archer stationed atop the little watchtower and
    another patrolling guard beneath him. Wait for the Archer to turn his back and
    then double jump over and Stealth Kill him as you land. Immediately crouch after
    doing so and now drop down on the patrolling guard beneath you and Stealth Kill
    him as well. Now roll back towards the gate and grapple up on the left most
    portion of it next to the rock wall. Turn around and remain crouched and now
    look across at the spear wielding guard who comes in and out of view behind the
    dividing wall ahead. Highlight your BLOWGUN and then kill him with a shot while
    he is walking from left to right and stops. If you already have the Hawk Eye
    Ability then you’ll also be able to see the dog behind him.
    
    Now drop down from the gate and roll to your right up the incline a bit until
    you hear a guard conversation. At this point immediately roll back and again
    grapple back up onto the east most portion of the fence next to the wall. Remain
    crouched and patiently wait for the guard to walk down from your right and stop
    exactly beneath you. As soon as he turns to walk away, drop down and Stealth
    Kill him. Now roll forward to the little hut and then grapple onto the roof and
    immediately crouch. Look at your in game map and position yourself on the SW
    most corner of this roof and remain crouched. From here you’ll be able to easily
    observe the patrolling dog while being out of sight from the stationary guard on
    the other side of the roof. Highlight your BLOWGUN again and kill the dog with a
    shot when he pauses and isn’t looking in your direction. (For some reason
    SHURIKEN from this distance, even with Hawk Eye leave him with 1 HP) Now creep
    up the roof just high enough so that you can observe the stationary guard below
    on the other side. Watch his turning pattern and when he turns his back, roll
    down and Stealth Kill him. Now roll towards your right along the wall and keep
    going until you are at the eastern most portion of the map. (You should be
    crouched on a slope) Stay here and observe a patrolling guard up ahead by the
    stone monument. As soon as he walks behind the monument, run up and grapple up
    onto the stone monument and immediately crouch. Now simply watch him from this
    vantage point and then drop down and Stealth Kill him as he walks back towards
    the right.
    
    Continue now by crouching and moving slowly to the left(west) until you come to
    the edge overlooking another patrolling guard below. Watch his pattern and then
    roll down and Stealth Kill him when his is over by the wall. Crouch again and
    move forward towards the ledge overlooking the river below and observe another
    patrolling guard walking along the river’s edge. Also take this time to look
    across the river and up a bit to see a patrolling Archer who walks up and down
    the far path. When he is out of range and the guard beneath you is nearby with
    his back to you, drop down and Stealth Kill him. Now roll all the way to the
    left(west) along the river and then roll through the river onto the other side
    and creep up behind the jutting rock on the embankment. Stay crouched behind
    this rock and wait for the Archer to patrol back down. Wait for him to turn and
    then double jump over the rock and run up behind him to Stealth Kill him. Now
    follow his path up to the end and then grapple your way up to the NW corner of
    the map (upper left) to grab the CANNON in the Red Box Item. Now jump back down
    (don’t walk left along the ledge because you will trigger the cutscene) and run
    back across the river and head up onto the bridge. Cross the bridge and now head
    left along the narrow ledge alongside the building and then double jump over to
    the small outcropping to grab Rin’s DEMON CLAWS in the Red Item Box. Now simply
    head to either entrance of the building to trigger the cutscene and complete the
    mission.
    
    NOTE: You can get spotted up to two times and still get an ASSASSIN Ranking
          provided you Stealth Kill all 10 enemies and are only spotted briefly.
          However, if you followed my path exactly then you should not have been
          seen at all.

             exactly to get a Grandmaster ranking.
    
    
    ********************************
    BOSS BATTLE: ASSASSINATION HORDE
    ********************************
    This Boss Battle consists of three enemies attacking you at the same time. There
    is a Bald Monk, a White Cloth Samurai and a Kunoichi and if you don’t act
    quickly they will swarm and overwhelm you. As soon as you begin, toggle to your
    DOKUTO BLADES and start slashing away. The poison in your blades will help to
    keep them at bay. Keep moving and try your best to avoid being surrounded as
    they will hack at you from all sides then. If you need extra health even after
    your NINJA REBIRTH Item then go grab the HEALTH POTION on the stone ledge next
    to the pathway. You can also try to climb up onto either of the watchtowers and
    then crouch and slash at the enemies as they try to climb up.
    
    IMPORTANT: There are two possible outcomes to this battle. If you kill the Bald
               Monk and Kunoichi first, a cutscene will trigger showing the White
               Cloth Samurai running away. If you kill the White Cloth Samurai first
               or second, then you can kill all three enemies. See end of mission to
               see what consequences each outcome has on the mission branching.
    
    
    WALKTHROUGH:
    Now that the Boss Battle is behind you, follow the path by crouching and moving
    forward until you hear a guard conversation. Now quickly roll back the way you
    cam and grapple up onto the right watchtower. Once up top, turn and crouch and
    move as far back as you can. Now wait until the patrolling Bald Monk heads up
    the path into the area. Wait for him to turn and do a double take and then
    double jump and run up to Stealth Kill him. Crouch as soon as he is dead and now
    look ahead at the far cliff and you should see a patrolling Kunoichi atop it.
    Use your first BLOWGUN Dart to eliminate her and then run back into the area
    with the watchtowers. Now head to the western most side and grapple up onto the
    cliff. Crouch and move forward along the fence until you come to the wooden
    barrel. Stay crouched and highlight your INVISIBILITY SPELL. Wait for the Ki-
    Meter to read between 33 and 35 and then don your INVISIBILITY SPELL, run
    forward and Stealth Kill the patrolling guard on the right embankment, cancel
    the FMV and quickly drop down and Stealth Kill the stationary guard by the left
    wall before the spell wears off. Quickly roll back up the same path from where
    you shot the Kunoichi earlier and stay crouched in case another one of the
    nearby guards discovers a murdered comrade.
    
    When things are cool again, roll up into the left corner and grab the MINE in
    the Red Box Item stashed in the corner of the cliff wall. Then head back up the
    path again and backtrack to the western fence again where you donned your
    INVISIBILITY SPELL earlier. Roll along the fence a bit and then remain crouched
    and observe the stationary Bald Monk ahead. There is also a patrolling Claw
    wielding guard towards your left so wait until he walks away and then kill the
    Monk with your second BLOWGUN Dart. Now roll down between the cliff walls and
    then grapple and hang from the cliff ledge to wait for the Claw wielding guard
    to return. Wait for him to turn and walk away and then climb up and Stealth Kill
    him. Now follow his path up the slope and then stop and crouch just before you
    get to the edge of the roof. From here you can look down into the final area and
    observe a patrolling dog and another Bald Monk right beneath you on the other
    side. Highlight your BLOWGUN Dart and kill the dog when he pauses and looks away
    and the Monk also has his back to you. Remain crouched in case the Monk goes to
    investigate and then simply drop down and Stealth Kill him when he turns his
    back to you again. Now head to the NW corner of this area by running up the
    slope and grab the DOG BONE in the Red Box Item up there. Afterwards head to the
    SE corner by the marked door to trigger the cutscene and end the mission.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: If you killed all three enemies during the Boss Battle you will
               unlock CHAPTER 10-1: FLAMES OF PASSION. If you killed the Bald Monk
               and Kunoichi first and triggered the cutscene showing the fleeing
               White Cloth Samurai, you will unlock CHAPTER 10-2: FLAMES OF SORROW.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, climb onto the small roof besides you and immediately
    crouch. Now creep up just enough to observe the two patrolling monks. Wait for
    the nearer one to begin walking to the left and when the other one turns to walk
    away, double jump over and Stealth Kill the nearest one. Now double jump back
    across the river and run to the far corner to grab the HEALTH POTION before
    returning back onto the roof and again crouching. Wait for the second guard to
    return and discover his fallen comrade and then double jump across to Stealth
    Kill him as he relaxes and walks away.(You can also grapple up onto the red
    archway and stalk him from there)
    
    Now roll up along the path and stop when you can see the next open area. Remain
    crouched and look up at the patrolling guard atop the far ledge. When he walks
    away, grapple up and hang from the ledge right above the candle-lit shrine. Wait
    for him to return and turn and then climb up and Stealth Kill him. Now crouch
    and move to your left until you can see the patrolling guard below by the little
    hut. Drop down one ledge and remain crouched and as soon as he passes
    underneath, drop down and Stealth Kill him. Now head behind the house to find
    another HEALTH POTION hidden in the Red Box Item. Turn and continue onward while
    crouching and you’ll soon see a stationary guard way up ahead. Use your first
    BLOWGUN Dart to kill him and slowly move forward until you see the gap you need
    to jump across. Jump over to the first gap and then take a running double jump
    to get across the second, longer gap. Now crouch and move along the path and
    stop midway up the slope leading to the next area. Remain crouched and observe a
    patrolling guard on the ledge ahead. When he walks to the left, roll all the way
    up under the ledge and remain crouched. Now take a look at the area here.
    
    There are two guards a little down the way and another two across the bridge.
    Highlight your INVISIBILITY SPELL and wait for the guard above you to turn and
    then quickly don it, jump up and Stealth Kill him. Cancel the FMV and run to the
    two guards and Double Stealth Kill them before the INVISIBILITY SPELL wears off.
    Now highlight your BLOWGUN and kill the stationary guard across the bridge with
    your second shot. (Aim slightly higher than him to avoid falling the dart from
    short) Now run to the far right and grab the FLASH BOMB in the Red Item Box
    tucked away in the corner. Return to the bridge now and drop down to the lower
    ledge on the right side and then grapple and hang from the lower rope. Now
    shimmy across and then drop down onto the lower ledge there. Grapple and hang
    from the bridge ledge and now observe the patrol pattern of the guard atop the
    steps on your right. When he walks away, climb up and go lean up against the
    wall on the left side of the steps and wait for him to return. As soon as he
    turns to walk away, run up and Stealth Kill him as well. Now head up and then
    crouch and move down the steps and stop just short of the little bridge as you
    observe the stationary guard ahead. Also look up from here to the second level
    and wait until you see the head of the patrolling guard above. Now focus on the
    guard ahead and as soon as he begins to turn his back, quickly run up and
    Stealth Kill him. Drag his body towards the wall to avoid alarming the other
    guard and then head back to the little bridge and grapple up and hang from the
    ledge right beside it. Wait for the guard to walk towards the left and then
    climb up and roll to the foot of his ledge. When he walks away again, jump up
    and Stealth Kill him. Now grab the EGG in the Red Item Box which is hidden just
    besides the main door and then highlight your CANNON(or FLASH BOMB) and enter
    the doorway.
    
    
    ******************************
    BOSS BATTLE: HITOHA and FUTABA
    ******************************
    If you brought along the CANNON Item then this battle will be a walk in the
    park. As soon as the battle begins, shoot Hitoha as he charges in and it will
    eat up most of his power. Don’t even concern yourself with Futaba as you instead
    focus all of your efforts to kill him. Use the FLASH BOMB as soon as he charges
    in again and then unload a combo on him that will surely leave a mark. Now you
    can focus your attention on Futaba. She shoots poison darts at you but in all
    honesty she is a rather meek opponent. Keep at her and keep strafing to avoid
    her arrows as you move closer and then unleash your combos. You should have her
    defeated in no time.
    
    NOTE: If you did not bring a CANNON Item along, focus only on Hitoha anyway. If
          you kill Futaba before him he will go into an incredible rage and become
          ten times more difficult to defeat. He will also use fireballs against you
          at this point and man it can be frustrating to make it this far only to
          have this sap ruin it for you. At all costs kill him first. Use FLASH
          BOMBS and also use the large area to your advantage. Also, try to keep
          them separated to avoid having to experience their double attacks, which
          include Hitoha holding you while Futaba shoots you up with darts.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin, grapple or jump up onto the roof in front of you and
    immediately crouch. Now creep up just far enough to observe the scene across the
    raging river. Wait for the second guard to arrive, and turn to leave and then
    double jump across the water and Stealth Kill the patrolling Basket Head. Turn
    around now and grapple up onto the big archway and observe the second guard from
    here. Now simply drop down and Stealth Kill him when he comes within range. Grab
    the HEALTH POTION on the right side and then turn the FIRSTSTATUE on the left
    side.(See map for red dot) Now continue up the path and then crouch and move
    right at the fork. You will come to a ledge looking down into a bottomless pit.
    However, if you jump across to the far side you will land on a small rocky
    ledge. From here grapple up to the ledge where the torch is and climb up. Turn
    the SECOND STATUE next to the torch and then grapple straight up and climb and
    crouch immediately on this grassy ledge. Notice the Bald Monk patrolling below.
    Time him and quickly Stealth Kill him. Now jump up onto the ledge on your left
    and crouch and move to the far edge to look down below.
    
    Through the leaves you should see a patrolling Basket Head below. When he turns
    to walk away, drop down (Holding R1 not to fall on impact) and quickly Stealth
    Kill him and crouch. Now slowly creep up towards the little hut and then
    grapple, climb and crouch on the little left roof. Creep up just far enough to
    observe the stationary guard between the huts. When his back is turned jump up
    onto the adjacent roof and quickly crouch again. Now creep to the NE corner of
    this roof and manipulate your camera to observe the patrolling guard on the
    continuing path. Wait for him to be well into his walk away and then quickly
    drop down and Stealth Kill the stationary guard. Quickly cancel the FMV and
    retreat back down the path you came from to avoid detection and when the coast
    is clear, grapple back up onto the large roof and again stalk the patrolling
    guard from the NE corner. As he begins to walk away, run up and Stealth Kill
    him. Now head back to the little hut and turn the THIRD STATUE. Now continue
    along the path cautiously and then jump across the first gap onto the little
    ledge. Now take a running double jump to make it across the second gap and
    continue until you get to the slope leading into the next area. Crouch and move
    up just high enough to see the patrolling guard up ahead. Highlight your
    INVISIBILITY SPELL and don it as soon as he turns to walk away. Now quickly run
    up, Stealth Kill, cancel the FMV, run along the path to the next guard who is
    patrolling, Stealth Kill him, cancel the FMV, turn around and jump up onto the
    ledge above and Stealth Kill the third guard. Collect everyone’s scrolls and
    then grab the 2 HEALTH POTIONS in the alcove between the hut and the cliff in
    the Red Item Box. Now turn the FOURTH STATUE in the right most corner facing the
    canyon and then head towards the bridge. Position yourself on the right side and
    crouch. Highlight your BLOWGUN and wait for the patrolling guard on the other
    side to walk down the steps and position himself right across from you. Quickly
    kill him with the BLOWGUN Dart.(Aim slightly higher than him to avoid falling
    short) Then drop down onto the little ledge besides the bridge and grapple up
    onto the lower rope and shimmy across.
    
    Once safely on the other side, climb up and climb up onto the ledge ahead to
    grab the FIREWORKS in the Red Box Item. Climb up the next ledge and turn the
    FIFTH STATUE in the corner besides the torch. Then make your way through the
    tunnel, down the steps and stop when you are in the middle of the small bridge.
    Turn right and grapple over to the small candle-filled ledge to turn the SIXTH
    STATUE. Now grapple up onto the highest ledge above, climb up and crouch. Notice
    the stationary guard at the far side and then creep to your left and roll down
    to the lower ledge and creep to the edge again. Now crouch and move along the
    ledge until you are between the tree and the beam that extends over the path
    below you. Wait her while crouching as the other guard patrols down right
    beneath you. As soon as he turns to walk back, roll down and quickly Stealth
    Kill him and again crouch.(Retreat if guard atop becomes alarmed) Now hug the
    left wall by the stairwell and then run up and crouch on the steps besides him
    when he turns his back. Now wait for your opportunity and then jump up and
    Stealth Kill him. Grab the 2 SM HEALTH POTIONS next to the lowest steps in the
    Red Box Item and then highlight your CANNON(or FLASH BOMBS) and walk up to the
    main door to trigger the cutscene and Boss Battle.

    BOSS BATTLE: HITOHA and FUTABA

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you begin turn slightly right and then double jump across and head up
    into the woods. As you run into the woods you’ll see an archer walking to your
    left, run up right behind him and Stealth Kill him. Now crouch and move to the
    far corner and observe a spear-wielding guard patrolling the tunnel. Wait for
    his back to be to you and then jump down and Stealth Kill him as well. Now
    crouch and move into the tunnel and stop at the bottom of the slope. Remain
    crouched, highlight your BLOWGUN and kill the patrolling guard ahead when he
    appears from behind the wall. Now quickly retreat out of this tunnel and head
    into the other tunnel at the far side of the wall when you get near the other
    opening, crouch and wait for the other two guards in the area to find the dead
    body. Once everyone calms down again, run up slightly and then grapple up onto
    the right side of the roof ahead. Climb up and crouch and slowly move up so that
    you can observe both guards. One should now be stationary in front of the main
    door and the other patrols the far side. Wait for the patrolling guard to walk
    away and then quickly drop down and Stealth Kill the stationary guard beneath
    you. Quickly cancel the FMV and run back a bit and then grapple back up onto the
    same roof again and crouch. Wait for the remaining guard to be alarmed and then
    drop down and Stealth Kill him as well. Now grab the DECOY BELL in the Red Box
    Item, which is tucked away in the NW corner of the area, and then head into the
    area next to this one via the opening and grab the HEALTH POTIION in the corner.
    Now drop stealthily(“R1”) down into the water and then head through the
    crawlspace into the next area.
    
    Keep R1 pressed as you exit the crawlspace and then grapple and hang from the
    left wall next to the bridge. Wait for the Archer to turn around and then
    quickly climb up and Stealth Kill him.(If he turns to walk onto the bridge, drop
    stealthily and wait and then grapple/hang again) Now drag his body and dump it
    in the water below. Now head to the Northern ledge and wait until you see the
    white cloth Samurai patrolling the far side. Once he is out of view, jump up and
    grapple up onto the roof and immediately crouch. Stay in the SE corner of this
    roof as you observe his patrol pattern. Also take this moment to look to your
    left as a guitar-toting Kunoichi patrols the main entrance of the large manor.
    Wait for the white cloth samurai to walk down the stairs and then slowly creep
    forward and then drop down and Stealth Kill him when he is right beneath you.
    Now head back down into the area with the water where you killed the Archer and
    head up the slope into the next area. Roll along the left perimeter until you
    trigger a guard conversation. Now immediately roll back down the slope and then
    hide between the slope and the wall as you wait for a guard to walk up. As soon
    as he turns to walk back, jump/run up and Stealth Kill him. Quickly cancel the
    FMV and run right back to your hiding spot in case the other guard spots him.
    Once the coast is clear, slowly move while crouching along the left perimeter of
    this area until you are safely concealed behind the wooden fence. Lean up
    against the far side of it and peek around until you can see the white cloth
    Samurai who is patrolling around the wooden hut in front of you. When he is
    walking along the hut on your side, run up behind him and Stealth Kill him.
    Quickly cancel the FMV and go hide between the perimeter and this house in case
    the Kunoichi spots him. Wait for her to calm down and then stalk and Stealth
    Kill her as well. Now grab the GRENADE hidden in the NW corner of the map and
    then head for the main entrance. Once inside there are two crawlspaces, the one
    on the right leads to a room with a patrolling Innocent Geisha so go into the
    left one.
    
    Do not exit the crawlspace immediately because a guitar-toting Kunoichi will
    walk into view from the far corridor. As soon as she turns to walk back, exit
    the crawlspace, run up and hug the right wall to observe her. If the Innocent
    Geisha at the far end is not in sight, quickly run in and Stealth Kill her. Now
    run up the staircase and grab the HEALTH POTION above. Lastly, highlight your
    SMOKE BOMBS, arm yourself with the DOKUTO BLADES(Wait out the effects) and then
    double jump over the railing so as to land on the stage below to trigger the
    cutscene and Boss Battle.
    
    
    *******************
    BOSS BATTLE: RANZOU
    *******************
    Ranzou is not too fierce of an opponent if you handle him the right way. Start
    out by dropping a SMOKE BOMB as he rushes in and then unload a full-fledged
    combo on him. Immediately run up and do a floor attack while he is down. The
    usage of the DOKUTO BLADES will make him very vulnerable to attack due to the
    poisonous effects. Block when he attacks with a combo and be quick to retaliate.
    If you need to drink a HEALTH POTION, run up the stairs to buy enough time to do
    this. There is one attack you must look out for. If you see a purple diagram
    start to form underfoot, jump out of the way. This spell that he casts will
    freeze you momentarily and trust me, it’s not for him to take a picture of you.
    Be aggressive and use the space to your advantage and Ranzou will perish under
    your might.
    
    NOTE: If the battle takes longer than a minute and a half then a cutscene will
          kick in and Ranzou will escape. If you are short on health then simply try
          to keep running away from him and use the staircase to buy time.
    
    
    IMPORTANT: If you did not kill Ranzou within the allotted time and the cutscene
               shows him getting away then you will unlock CHAPTER 12-1: TENCHU
               KURENAI. If you killed Ranzou you will unlock CHAPTER 12-2: TENCHU
               KURENAI. (You can always go back and do it the other way to unlock
               the alternate branch)

    WALKTHROUGH:
    Crouch as soon as you begin and watch as a guard walks past you outside of the
    bamboo gates. Roll out after him as soon as he is in front of you and Stealth
    Kill him. Quickly retreat back into the starting point and hug the left side of
    the opening and wait for the patrolling monk ahead to discover the body. As soon
    as he returns to calm, rush out and Stealth Kill him. Now go back into the
    starting point again and then grapple and hang from the right bamboo fence in
    the SW corner. Manipulate your camera to observe the stationary guard below and
    then line yourself up with him. Now look to your right by maneuvering the camera
    and wait until you see the patrolling Innocent Civilian appear. Wait for him to
    walk away and then focus again on the stationary guy below. As soon as he turns,
    climb over and drop down to Stealth Kill him. Now quickly run across the bridge
    and then hug the left wall by the doorway to observe a stationary guard ahead.
    
    Observe his movements carefully as he sometimes does a double take(but don’t
    take too long to risk being spotted by the returning Civilian) and then quickly
    run in and Stealth Kill him while he’s turned to his left. Now run back past the
    same doorway and stop once you get to the stairway heading down. From up top you
    can observe the patrolling monk below. Get a feel for his pattern and then sneak
    down to the corner of the stairs and wait for him to walk to the far right. As
    soon as he turns, run down full speed to Stealth Kill him before he turns back
    again. Immediately crouch upon killing him and backtrack back up the stairs.
    Again pass the same doorway and the stationary guard you killed and now head
    halfway down the other stairway. Hop onto the little roof midway down and crouch
    as you observe a patrolling monk walking in and out of the adjacent fenced in
    area. When he walks out, roll down and position yourself by the sign in the SW
    corner facing North. Highlight your BLOWGUN and kill him when he is back and
    turns away again. Stay put for a moment to make sure the stationary guard down
    below doesn’t discover him and then crouch and move closer to the entryway by
    the body. Observe the stationary guard and when he turns as far as he is going
    to, run in and quickly Stealth Kill him. Grab the HEALTH POTION atop the boxes
    next to the house and then crouch as you approach the gate that leads into the
    next area. (Try to approach the gate as far left as possible)
    
    Keep your “R1” button pressed as you gain control again and immediately roll to
    your left into the alcove. (Manjirou may be here, looks like a Civilian) Whether
    he is or isn’t, grapple up onto the scaffolding and immediately crouch to avoid
    detection from the patrolling Kunoichi on the opposing scaffolding. Crouch and
    move to the SE edge of the scaffolding(But not down to the small addition) and
    then kill the Kunoichi with your second BLOWGUN Dart when she turns to walk
    back. Now look to your left into the area and you’ll notice a guard eventually
    walking below on the ground. When you see him, crouch and move to the far edge
    of your scaffolding and wait for him to walk beneath you as he prepares to walk
    up onto the neighboring one. Quickly drop down and Stealth Kill him. Now grapple
    back up onto your scaffolding and head back towards the perimeter from which you
    entered. Cross over now to the scaffolding where the dead Kunoichi lies and then
    slowly crouch and move towards the stationary guard at the far end of the
    scaffolding. Stay just out of range and observe both him and the patrolling
    Kunoichi below on the ground. Wait for her to be at her farthest point where she
    remains for several seconds and then run up and Stealth Kill the stationary
    guard while his back is turned. Quickly run all the way back to the dead
    Kunoichi from before and again cross over to the opposing scaffolding where you
    first climbed up. Now hop over to the neighboring one and crouch. Look ahead and
    you’ll notice a Bald Monk stationed atop the watchtower in the corner. Now
    slowly crouch and move so that you can observe the patrolling Kunoichi below.
    Creep to the edge as she approaches and then quickly drop down and Stealth Kill
    her as soon as she turns around beneath you. Cancel the FMV, crouch and roll
    back to avoid detection from the Monk and then observe his patterns and take
    your time getting beneath the watchtower. (I recommend approaching him along the
    Northern wall from the NE portion of the area. Once beneath him look up and time
    his pattern. As soon as he turns, grapple up and quickly Stealth Kill him.
    (NOTE: You cannot hang from this watchtower so be decisive)
    
    If you’ve already encountered Manjirou then you can proceed into the Sub
    Boss/Boss Battle by entering the door along the Northern wall between the
    watchtowers. If not, or if you want to still kill more enemies or grab the
    AMULET then head to the gate along the eastern wall. (There is a GRENADE just
    off to the side). Crouch as you enter the gate and note that your Ki Meter is
    almost maxed out.
    
    As soon as you gain control on the other side, Stealth Kill the stationary guard
    right in front of you and then drag his body up just so that he is out of view.
    Now enter the crawlspace under the porch on your right to pick up the AMULET in
    the Red Item Box and exit back out the same way. Now go to the NE corner to find
    Manjirou (unless you already found him) and then return back through the same
    gate and head to the Sub Boss/Boss Battle by entering the door between the
    watchtowers. (NOTE: There are still 5 enemies remaining in this area if you feel
    the need to wipe them all out but if you have followed this walkthrough exactly
    you should not have been seen at all. If you do decide to kill the remaining
    guards then beware the patrolling civilian from the beginning as you navigate
    your way around.

    SUB BOSS BATTLE: SHOU
    *********************
    Shou is really not too difficult an opponent to beat. My advice is to keep
    yourself locked on to him and strafe as you avoid his short bursts of shooting
    darts. When you get near him simply unload a full-fledged combo and try to
    always implement your DEATH DROP technique to add to the pain. When he is down,
    quickly run up and land a falling blow as well. Do not waste your time trying to
    throw Shou as he will probably send you sailing through the air instead with his
    own close range attack. Save your stronger weapons if you brought them for
    Jyuzou and simply focus on strafing and then attacking with him. If you are low
    on health, quickly drink your HEALTH POTION while he is dying as the real battle
    is just about to begin.

    BOSS BATTLE: JYUZOU
    *******************
    Jyuzou is undoubtedly the most difficult boss in the game. He has a wide variety
    of attacks and a very tight defense. The best way to attack him is to block and
    strafe away from most of his slashes and then land your combo in from his side
    or back. Beware of the close range attack he has because he will first knee you
    in the head and then kick you in the face after you fall to your knees. This
    will take away quite a bit of health. If you brought your BAMBOO GUN or CANNON
    then fire them right after he has missed with a lunging attack. Use the
    expansive area to your advantage and just keep blocking and strafing around to
    find your openings. CALTROPS are also extremely useful items to use against him
    as long as you are ready to move in and attack while he is hopping around on one
    foot. Other Items such as GRENADES, FLASH BOMBS, STICKY BOMBS, EXPLOSIVE BOXES,
    WASP NESTS, FAKE RATS etc. are totally useless however. Once he has been
    defeated the final cutscene will kick in.
    
    CALTROPS Strategy: Run away from Jyuzou and then drop a set of them behind you.
                       Quickly press “R2” to lock on to him and watch as he walks
                       onto one. Now dash in and unload your combo while he is
                       hopping around on one foot. Then quickly double jump across
                       the remaining CALTROPS and lock on again. By using your
                       strafe technique you should have no problems lining him up
                       for the next CALTROP. Keep repeating this and if you include
                       the DEATH DROP technique in your combos he will be defeated
                       with relative ease. Be cautious so as not to step on one
                       yourself though or he will unload on you as you are hopping
                       around.
    
    NO ITEMS Strategy: As soon as the battle begins, hold down “R2” to lock on to
                       him while pressing back and X. Do this continually and he'll
                       start running towards you. If you time it just right you can
                       press forward and lunge at him while attacking and you'll
                       slice him up into the air. Then jump on him (or stand close
                       and press square, or press back on the stick and press square
                       to stomp on him). Repeat several times until he has been
                       defeated.

    ROCK Strategy: There's a small rock on Jyuzou's right(your left) when you first
                   begin the battle. Immediately position yourself so that the rock
                   is between Jyuzou and yourself. Now crouch while facing locking
                   on to Jyuzou. He will immediately enter <“!?”> mode and run
                   towards the rock. Keep the R1 and R2 buttons pressed and wait for
                   Jyuzou to jump over the rock and over you. Since you are locking
                   on to him, Jyuzou's back will be turned towards you when he
                   lands, allowing you to easily land a full-fledged combo followed
                   by a falling blow. Repeat this a few times and Jyuzou will be
                   defeated.

    WALKTHROUGH:
    As soon as you gain control go and hug the left wall of the bamboo fence opening
    and observe the approaching Kunoichi. When she is right outside, quickly Stealth
    Kill, cancel the FMV, crouch and retreat back into the bamboo enclosure to avoid
    detection. Again hug the left opening and watch as a nearby enemy discovers her
    corpse. As soon as he relaxes, run out and Stealth Kill him as well. Now head
    towards the nearby bridge and look down at the patrolling guard sloshing through
    the water below you. Take your time and then drop down while keeping “R1”
    pressed and Stealth Kill him. Now grapple back up onto the path and then follow
    either of the following two directions.
    
            PATH A: “THE LONG WAY”         |        PATH B: “THE EASY WAY”

    Remain crouched as you gain control and quickly roll left into the small alcove
    and grapple up onto the scaffolding above. Crouch as soon as you get up top and
    now creep to the SE corner of the scaffolding to observe the scene. Across on
    the scaffolding is a patrolling guard, below there is a patrolling Innocent
    Civilian along with a patrolling Kunoichi and on the scaffolding to your left is
    yet another patrolling guard. When the guard on your left is out of range, kill
    the guard across with a BLOWGUN Dart. Now observe the guard on your left again
    and wait for him to walk away. Quickly roll to the edge between your scaffolding
    and his and watch the Kunoichi below as she walks right beneath you. Provided
    the Innocent Civilian is not within eyesight, drop down and Stealth Kill her.
    Now crouch and move up the incline to the neighboring scaffolding and stop just
    short of the top. Wait for the patrolling guard to return and then jump up and
    Stealth Kill him as well. Now look for the Civilian’s position and then double
    jump back across to the scaffolding you started out on and when the coast is
    clear, cross over to the opposing scaffolding where you shot the guard earlier.
    Crouch and move to the far end and observe a stationary Kunoichi ahead below the
    watchtower. When the civilian is far enough away, roll down and roll over to the
    wooden divider next to the gate. Grapple up and crouch. Now wait for her to turn
    and then double jump up onto the watchtower beside her. Keep an eye on the
    Civilian and then drop down and Stealth Kill her. Now go grab the EGG in the Red
    Item Box which is located in the NW corner of the map and then enter the main
    gates between the watchtowers to trigger the cutscene and Sub Boss/Boss Battles.

    To date there have been no button cheats released. There are a few unlockable
    secrets however. Here is a list of those.
    
    UNLOCKABLE
    Ayame’s Tenchu 1 Costume \  Defeat Jyuzou in Pit Fight/Red Blade Mode with 23
    Ayame’s Tenchu 2 Costume /  minutes remaining and beat both Ayame’s. Another
                                Method is to collect a total of 1600 Scrolls in
                                Story Mode.
    Ayame’s Tenchu 3(WoH) Costume: Complete Story Mode on any difficulty setting.
    Pit Fight/Red Blade Mode: Complete Story Mode on Normal Difficulty setting.
    Boss Battle Mode: Defeat all six enemy groups in Pit Fight/Red Blade Mode.
                      (So they say but I unlocked it by beating the game on II
                       Difficulty)
    Sound Check Mode: Complete every layout on every difficulty setting with each
                      character.
    Unlock the Third Layout in Level Select: Complete all 18 Chapters in Story Mode.
    Play through the Tutorial with Ayame: Press and hold L1 while selecting the
                                          Tutorial.
    View Encyclopedia Cutscenes with Armor on: Press and hold L2 while selecting a
                                               cutscene.
    
    
    NOTE: Please look for Gameshark and Action Replay codes on their respective

    In this section you can find some interesting stuff to try including exploits,
    glitches and other little oddities.
    
    CHECK RIN’S MAP: During the first Chapter when you get to the final Boss Battle
                     you can delay the triggering cutscene by simply avoiding the
                     main house and walking along the perimeter of the area to the
                     northern ledge or by grappling up onto the roof of the main
                     house and then double jumping onto the bamboo fences on the
                     northern side. From there you can double jump again onto the
                     ledge where Rin’s first chapter begins. You can now explore her
                     level up until the water pool. When you are ready you can go
                     back to trigger the Boss Battle by simply walking on the ground
                     near the house. (You can even pick up the HEALTH POTION in the
                     corner of the bamboo fence before triggering the fight.
    
    CHECK AYAMES’S MAP: In Chapter 2-1/2-2 you can backtrack all the way back to
                        where Ayame begins her very first mission. There is nothing
                        to find and no enemies to kill/avoid but it is open to
                        explore. (It would have been nice if Ayame’s victims still
                        littered the path)
    
    A PIECE OF CHEESE: Use Ayame in Level Select mode and play “I am Rin of the
                       Beniya”(Bougetsu Cave). Layout II or III as soon as you enter
                       the Bougetsu Cave in the alcove on your left you’ll see three
                       mice scampering around a piece of cheese. Amazingly enough
                       you can pick up the cheese although it simply becomes a Smoke
                       Bomb in your inventory.
    
    CHAPTER 6 SHORTCUT: When you first begin Chapter 6-1 or 6-2, immediately turn
                        around and grapple up onto the ledge behind you. Climb up
                        and you will be looking down into the hidden river area next
                        to the Sub Boss Battle on the bridge. You can avoid most of
                        the level by simply cutting through here and heading left to
                        get to the bridge area.
    
    FALL THROUGH ROOF: In Chapter 6 when you get to the first courtyard you’ll
                       notice a small hut next to the sloping cement ledge.
                       Sometimes when you roll forward onto the rooftop from this
                       ledge you’ll cling momentarily and then fall through the roof
                       and into the hut below. This glitch is more likely to occur
                       with Rin than with Ayame.

    CUTSCENE TRICKERY: For any cutscene that has Rin drawing her sword(e.g Boss
                       Scene in Bougetsu Cave), equip a spear before triggering the
                       cutscene. Rin will then unsheath the spear instead of her
                       sword.

    CUTSCENE TRICKERY #2: If you use Rin’s SHADOW ability just prior to triggering a
                          cutscene she will be invisible in the scene. Tip: Try this
                          just as the final Boss dies to get an idea of whose hand
                          it is on Ayame’s shoulder.
