"The Return Of The Guiltiest Pleasure This Side Of The Solana Galaxy!"
Welcome to the world of Ratchet and Clank! Where robots abound and weapons await you around every corner. This is the third installment of the insanely popular Ratchet and Clank series by Insomniac. In 2002, we were wowed with a completely original and innovative platformer called Ratchet and Clank. With it's superb graphics and creative style and weapons, it developed an instant fanbase. After only 1 year, Insomniac served up a second portion of it's highly renowned series, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. With all new weapons and worlds, not to mention an all new weapon upgrade system, it became an even bigger phenomenon. Now, the third game is here. Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is as innovative, creative, and mind-blowingly fun as it's predecessors. The question is, are YOU ready for it?
As in previous games, the story is definitely not the main focus of the game, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It revolves around an evil robot, namely, Dr. Nefarious. He has devised a plan to eliminate all organic life in the galaxy. To help him accomplish this feat, he has recruited the annihilating force of the Thyrranoids. They are a fierce, (completely organic, go figure), race of monsters that will stop at nothing to eliminate Ratchet and Clank in their tracks. Overall, the story holds up good, and is always a welcome break as hilarious cutscenes lead from one situation to the next.
This is where the game really shines. With 20 weapons each with 4 levels of upgradability, this game offers up the most destructive fun of any other game. Sniper Rifles, Fiery Whips, Nukes, as well as much more, the shooting will keep you coming back for more. Even though the platforming has been tuned down, it is still an integral part of the game. Level consist of semi-linear environments that throw enemies in your path, as well as collecting bolts for currency, and completing various missions.
Another reason this game is so fun to play. Environments are beautifully rendered, with sprawling horizons that you can see spreading into the distance, complete with detailed plants, animals, and anything else you can possibly think of. Cutscenes are done to perfection, as the bodies move flawlessly. Overall, each environment has it's own very unique touch and style, which will make you want to keep going back just to gaze at the beauty all over again.
Definitely not the most memorable music, but it always fits the world and environment you are in. You can even hear sounds of birds or planes if you listen closely. Overall, very well done, as well as the voice acting.
Replay Value: 9/10
Very much of it. With the 4 levels of upgrades for the weapons, 30 Skill Points, Titanium Bolts, and other goodies, you'll have to play it at least 3 times to get the full benefit of everything. Let's not forget the Insomniac Museum. This will provide with hours of gameplay, and you won't regret it.
Definitely without a doubt Buy it. You won't be able to experience everything it has to offer if you don't.
This game is awesome and that's all that has to be said. Go and buy it now, you won't regret it, I promise. ;)
