"They just keep getting better."
This is the third installment to the Ratchet and Clank series. If you have followed the series so far then you probably have noticed that there has been some big changed between them. So far all of those changes have been great. The first Ratchet and Clank was a unique type of platforming game. It added guns and gadgets in the mix. This was a great new change to the platforming genre. Then in Going Commando, Insomniac decides toi add some RPG elements to this already great style of platforming. To me this was a very good change and made it one of the best games of 2003. Now, in 2004 Insomniac decides to make a third.
The graphics in this game are great. All of the landscapes look wonderful and also very detailed. The characters also look way better compared to the to the rest of the series. The cut scenes look good as well. Also, each skin is very unique and detailed. Even the guns look great. Though the graphics are not that of the Final Fantasy series, they are still incredible.
This games sound is also a very good part of this game. The voice overs sre very good. The background music in each level is also good. Also, the gun fights in this game sound great and they are not annoying as in some games. The sounds are also very good in this game.
This game button layout feels very smooth. If you have played any of the other Ratchet and Clank games then you should know the great feel of the controls. You can get the feel of these controls in a couple of minutes so it shouldn't be a problem. If you are used to playing first person shooters then you can switch it to first person mode and then you will be fine. So, the controls are good for everyone.
As you may know, the Ratchet and Clank story lines are not great. The same applies for this game. You will not be thinking about what happens next when you go to bed at night like you may with games like Final Fantasy. But also like the other Ratchet and Clank games the story line is very funny. Almost every cut scene in the game is very hilarious. So I would have to say that the storyline is good because of how funny it is.
The single player in this game is great, but not perfect. To beat the single player mode it will take around 10-15 hours. After you beat the game though, you could play through the challenge mode. This is like starting a new game except you get to keep all of the weapons, health, and some other things, and it is way harder. This extra mode will keep you busy for a while longer.
Like all Ratchet and Clank games there are a lot of weapons to collect. This time around there are twenty weapons. Each one levels up five times in normal mode, three additional times in challenge modes. Also, th weapons don't make dramatic changes like last time. They just get stronger, gain more ammo, and possibly a mod. So this time the weapons will not upgrade into a terrible weapon like the lava gun from Going Commando. The only exception is the RY3NO. It levels up into a very poor weapon. The new weapon system is better then before.
The big change to this game is the new multi-player. You can play three different types of multi-player. There is the Siege mode, Capture the Flag, and Death match. Siege, my favorite mode, is where you you have to capture nodes, which give you weapons, vehicles and another place to re spawn. Then you have to get to the enemy base, destroy the two Gatling turrets then enter the base and destroy the power core. The next mode is Capture the Flag. In this mode you have to go to the enemy base, capture there flag, and bring it back to your base. The last mode is Death match. In this mode you have to get the amount of kills you need before the other players. All of these modes have on line support. This is by far the best aspect of the game and it is also what puts it above most other games.
This game is a very good game and won't get old for quite a while. You can beat the game quite a few times without getting bored. And with the on line multi-player you will be playing this game for months to come. Up your Arsenal has very good replay value.
If you have a PS2 then buy this game. If you have a broad-band adapter then no matter what buy this game and get consumed by its greatness.
