"This is the perfect way to end the Budokai Trilogy"
Any Dragonball Z/GT fan would be pleased with this game. All the characters you like are on here and all your favorite moves are here also. This game like the Budokai 2 starts off where Goku runs into Raditz and finishes with the Buu Saga. This game is the best of the Budokai trilogy. Atari went in the right direction with this game and made it the final and best of the series. They couldn't have ended it any better.
Game Play 10
The game play blows away any of the other Budokai games. They have added so much to make the battles more interesting or harder. For instance, they added the teleporting feature so when you opponent is attacking you, with a combination of two buttons you are behind them kicking them away from you so you can charge up real fast. But if the enemy is good they can use their Counter Gotcha and teleport behind you and knock you away. Most people don't like the fact that it takes a ki bar when you use the teleporting, so you might want to watch out how many times you teleport or you might go into a little stunning mode from running out of ki.
One fault in the battles is they have a new mode called Fury mode. With a simple press of the L2 button your character will turn all red and they cannot be harmed by normal attacks. When you are in hyper mode you can use a move called dragon rush. And what that is, is when they knock you into the air and they launch a total of 3 attacks. The trick is you both get to press a button (circle, x, square, triangle) and if you both guess the same one you can cancel them from attacking you further. But if they land all 3 attacks, certain characters will launch a super move as I like to call it. Like Piccolo for instance, if you can land all 3 attacks of the Dragon Rush then he finishes it with Special Beam Cannon. Also with other characters they may not have to go in Dragon Rush to do a super move. Some of them just do their move when you go into fury and press L2 and they blow you away.
The best feature of the game play is the Dragon Universe. In this mode you have 11 characters (some need to be unlocked) to choose from and go through their own story mode. You will go through the story just like it is in the actual show and it's really something else. While going through this mode you can find all the Dragonballs. So far in the story you will find a dragon radar witch will help you on finding the Dragonballs lying around the planet you are at. You will run into battles that happen in the story, for instance if you are going with Goku you will fight Raditz, Vegita, and so on. Also if you use a certain move to kill your enemy you will unlock items in the bonus screen. When collecting all the Dragonballs at the end, the Shenron Dragon will show up and give you three options. One, he will offer to give you a breakthrough for whatever character you went through the story with. And what a breakthrough is, you get all the characters moves but this item takes up all the room in there skills screen. But like with Goku he has so many moves you can't get them all in, and with the breakthrough you can have everything equipped. Two he will let you have the characters Memories, and that is just the sounds throughout the game that the character makes. And Finally he will give you some sort of vest, just a helpful capsule to help your defense go up. The final good thing about Dragon Universe is you can level up your characters and make them faster and stronger.
There is not much about the sound in this game. They have music when you go through Dragon Universe but it gets really annoying if you're searching for Dragonballs and you hear the same song over and over again. The characters all have their own little trash talking when you're fighting one another.
The story is the same as the last Budokai just in a different way of playing it. But since they kept with the anime I think it's a really good story line and they did a good job of portraying it.
This game has super replay ability. You can go through the Dragon Arena mode and level up your characters to just take on whoever challenges. There are a total of 99 levels and by the time you reach 99 your character should be unstoppable. So you will spend countless hours into this game just trying out new things and unlocking all the secret characters. It's a really great game and should keep you going back to it.
Game Play 10
This is definitely the best of the Budokai trilogy as I mentioned before. If you are a hardcore DBZ/GT fan as I then you should love the game to death. I failed to mention earlier but the Dragon Rush is the most annoying thing ever. Cause some of the characters you fight only try to do that crap, but all you have to do is get better and dodging their attacks and they will eventually run out of ki and you can unleash on them. But if you want a good anime/fighting game this game is for you. It goes perfect along with the story and the fighting in this game is just amazing. So go out and grab it, if not at least rent it. This is a must have.
