03 Introduction

Hello everyone, I'm Phil Parent talking to you live from RaveX HQ in Montreal,
Quebec; Welcome to this edition of the ESPN NHL Hockey Renaming Guide series,
2K5 Version!

Customization is king again this year in ESPN NHL Hockey. More classic teams,
two new additions to the international melee and more guarantee the great
replayability and the hours of fun doing renaming & creating work for all of
us stats nuts. I don't think you came here to read me babble, so here comes
the data!

===============

04 National Teams

The unlicensed European players in the game are named in a way that makes their
real identity rather obvious. Most players have the correct first names, with
subtle modifications made to their last name. In general, the players data are
also correct.

In the listings, a player that has an asterisk ("*") following their name needs
no modification. Note that the goalies are listed after the skaters.

Many rosters are identical to that of last year's. They weren't as updated as
the regular NHL teams or the more mainstream national teams. Also note that this
year, the Overall stat will change when you edit players, even if you do not
edit their stats.

IX) TEAM KAZAKHSTAN

(I've got a feeling the researchers did extra effort to make the Kazaks hard to
identify. But with some editing (Including some position edition, look for
the position letter (C, LW, RW or D) before the age of the player if you need
to change the position of the original), you can get a pretty authentic team.)

X) TEAM LATVIA

(There was a mistake on these rosters. Alexander Zhurik is Belarussian,
not Latvian. He never played with Latvia. I had fixed it by modifying Zhurik's
entry to be Sergei Zholtok. Unfortunately, Sergei Zholtok tragically died from
an heart attack during a game in his native Latvia in early November of 2004.
As a tribute to Sergei Zholtok, who played two years and a half for my
home town Montreal Canadiens, he will remain on Team Latvia in this ESPN NHL
2005. Zholtok was an honnest worker, who gave everything he had. He wasn't the
most skilled, but he certainly wasn't the worst. In his NHL career, he played
for the Bruins, the Senators, the Canadiens, the Oilers, the Wild and the
Predators, as well as with affiliates of those teams, the IHL's Las Vegas
Thunder and his home town team of Dynamo Riga, for which he played when he
died. R.I.P. Habs #34 Sergei Zholtok)

XII) TEAM SLOVAKIA

(Here, we have a double of goalie Rastislav Stana, a licensed version with
picture and last year's "Rastislav Stene" fake. We'll edit the later out. When
you edit the fake to become Karol Krizan, his overall stat will become the
highest out of all four Slovak goalies. You may disregard this, as he's
scratched anyway and Lasak still is the starter with Stana as backup, or you
may liberally lower his stats. Your choice.)

XIII) TEAM SWEDEN

(Interesting case here. The scratched goalie "Anders Jivarp" is a fake, but not
only any fake. He's the best goalie of the team, and remains so after you edit
him, with a NHL Superstar-esque 93 rating, nothing less. He's also got a
classic face protector instead of a mask. You'll want to replace this with a
modern mask. The replacement for the fake, Henrik Lundqvist, has not been
dressed for the World Cup, but he's REALLY arguably better than Salo and
Tellqvist. Just not by that much. Lower his stats so that he'll be in the mid
80's. And for realism's sake, keep him scratched so that Tellqvist and Salo
can sink Sweden again, on their own :-)

05 Historical Teams

Sega took certain liberties when it came to setting the lineups of some of the
historical teams. Sometimes, it looks like they included players that didn't
finish the specified season with that particular team. In this case, I've
replaced the player.

Players who are still active will appear on historic rosters, correctly
altered so that they are a reflection of their past selves. However,
retired players appear as nothing else than a position and a number,
identifying the correct player's position and rank at that position
on the team. Most, but not all, heights and weights are correct.
Most of the unlicensed old timers have incorrect jersey numbers. Most of the
time, nationalities are correct, but not always.

Teams are listed in chronological order. Players within the teams are
listed with their in-game position and rank at position. Then comes
their jersey number, name, age, height, weight and nationality.

All players on the lineup are listed. Those who are not to be edited have
only their name listed. Those players are listed after the players to be
edited at their position.
