1. Introduction
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well then, if you are here then you must be wondering how to play Xiahou Dun,
or you have nothing better to do while surfing the Dynasty Warriors 5 FAQ
section of the site. In any case this is the character guide for Xiahou Dun
and I will try to inform you as much as I can about him in the game Dynasty
Warriors 5 for the PS2.

Before we go further you should know that this guide is for the North American
version of Dynasty Warriors 5 and while I do know some about the Japanese
version I will not be able to answer any questions about it.

This guide was composed with the intent of making you familiar with using the
character Xiahou Dun in the game. It does not contain secrets for any other
characters besides Dun himself and does not contain cheats for the game.
This guide is to try to help you become better at using him and getting the
most out of him that you can.

4. How do I unlock Xiahou Dun?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xiahou Dun is initially available to play for the "Wei" side in
Dynasty Warriors 5. He has been ever since Dynasty Warriors 2 and
it probably will stay that way as long as they make the games as he is
a fan favorite and a lot of people who I know that play this game like to
play him first.

Of course I wouldnt be making an FAQ about him if he wasnt one of my
favorites, which he is. Not #1 but a fun character nonetheless.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Brief Information of Xiahou Dun
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xiahou Dun is a relative and close friend of Cao Cao.
He is also the elder brother of Xiahou Yuan. Xiahou Dun was
trained from an early age in the use of arms.

It was during an attack on Gao Shun that Xiahou Dun lost his eye.
Cao Xing, a general under Lu Bu, shot an arrow into Xiahou Dun's eye.
When Xiahou Dun removed the arrow, his eye came out with it.
"Essence of my father, blood of my mother, I cannot throw this away!" he said,
put the eye into his mouth and swallowed it. He then went and drove a spear
right into Cao Xiu's face. (What a badass)

Xiahou Dun died of illness in the year 220. Such a cruel end for an awesome
character.

Its a good site if you want some DW information so give it a visit sometime.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Move Sets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section deals with all the moves Dun can perform in the game. The
table of symbols and keys I am using is listed below. Xiahou Dun is one of the
easiest characters to use in the game. His moveset is quite simple, yet it
works well enough to dispatch most enemies.

----------------
S = Square (Normal Attack)
T = Triangle (Charge Attack)
C = Circle (Musou)
R1 = R1 Shoulder Button (Bow)
----------------

Moveset on Ground:
------------------
Note in order to attack more then four times, you need to have a lvl 2, 3, or 4
weapon. Level 2 weapons can attack a max of 5 times. Duns 3rd and 4th weapon
can attack a max of 6 times if theyre not a "Evolution" weapon. If they are an
evolution weapon they can attack up to 9 times if you have a full musou gauge.
You know they are an evolution weapon because they have a blue orb next to the
weapon when you choose them.

Normal Attacks:
---------------
S = Dun slashes left.
SS = Dun slashes left then right.
SSS = Dun slashes left, right, and then slashes down in front of him.
SSSS = Dun slashes left, right, down, and then a spinning slash that sends
       the enemies flying back.
SSSSS = Dun performs another spin slash that cuts through enemies.
SSSSSS = Dun winds back and releases a powerful upward slash that knocks
         enemies back.
SSSSSS(S) = Dun does another slash to the right.
SSSSSS(SS) = Dun slashes down.
SSSSSS(SSS) = Dun does another powerful spin slash.

Charge Attacks:
---------------
T = Dun runs forward and slashes to the left
ST = Dun slashes then proceeds to slash upwards sending any enemy in front of
     him into the air.
SST = Dun slashes twice then proceeds to start spinning his sword around in the
air continuously. If you keep pressing triangle he will spin it more and
more. If any enemies are hit by this they will be stunned.
SSST = Dun will slash three times, charge up, and then release a powerful 360
degree slash attack that will send all enemies flying away from him.
SSSST = Dun slashes four times, and then spins around and slams his sword into
the ground sending any enemies standing around him flying into the air.
        Good move for starting combos.
SSSSST = Well this has been changed from past DW games. Dun will slash five
times and then charge up and do a spin slash counter clockwise and
then clockwise again. Good move for clearing enemies around you but
a little on the short range side.

Jump + T = Dun charges and swings his sword upwards bringing enemies into the
air and then continually slashing left and right doing some decent
           damage.

Musou Attack:
-------------
Dun will perform a series of alternating upward swipes going from left to right
until your musou gauge runs out or you let go of "circle" in which Dun will
make a final sword slash to the right sending enemies flying. Good if you want
to juggle an enemy but can be a little difficult to control sometimes.

True Musou Attack:
------------------
When your health is in the red and you have a full musou bar, unleashing your
musou attack will make Xiahou Dun perform the same action in his normal musou
attack except this time his attacks will have the fire element on them. Also
at the end of the attack he will do a strong downward slash followed by an
incredibly powerful slash to the right sending all enemies burning and flying
away from you.

Bow Attacks:
------------
S = Shoots an arrow......wheee.
T = Shoots a more powerful arrow.....double wheee.
C = Shoots a volley of arrows as long as you hold "circle" or your musou gauge
    hasnt run out.

Moveset on Horseback:
---------------------
S = Slashes left, keep pressing to alternate slashes left and right.
T = Dun charges up and then slashes left and right.
C = Musou attack with Dun slashing left and right....boring and pretty weak.

Xiahou Dun is not the best fighter in the game, nor is he the worst. Many
people dont like his new moveset, but hey KOEI and Omega cant please everyone
in the world. His C4(Charge 4) and his C6(Charge 6) attack are quite effective
and if you have the fire orb equipped on him you really shouldnt have much
trouble playing through normal or hard difficulty. His 4th weapon has decent
range due to it being quite a large scimitar. One of the better beggining
characters to use in my opinion, so have fun with him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Weapons
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course as your probably know every character has 4 weapons available to him
or her. This section will give you a quick breakdown of Dun's 4 available
weapons as well as tell you how to go about getting his 4th weapon.

1st Weapon - Scimitar
   Power: 4
   Attacks: 4
   Weight: Light-Medium
2nd Weapon - Great Scimitar
   Power: 8
   Attacks: 5
   Weight: Light-Medium
3rd Weapon - Kirin Blade
   Power: 12
   Attacks: 6(9)
   Weight: Light-Heavy
4th Weapon - Kirin Fang
   Power: 36
   Attacks: 6(9)
   Weight: Medium
   Charge-17
   Horse-16
   Defense-17
   Attack-17
   Musou-16

4th Weapon Obtaining
--------------------
Mode: Story or Free
Level: Battle of Fan Castle
Diff: Hard or Chaos
Requirements: Fan Castle unlocked, playing on Wei's side.

Description/Walkthrough:
Pretty simple. Rush up to Guan Ping whos on the left side of the map near
the dam, beat him to a bloody pulp and the weapon will appear in the northern
part of Guan Yus base. Note that Guan Ping does have the ability to go into
Musou-Hyper Rage mode so be careful as he can make quick work of an under
leveled character. Anyway, go on down to the base, pick up your weapon, and
then proceed to beat Guan Yu. Be careful though, as many enemy generals will
swarm you once youre in the base.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Costumes and other info
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You acquire a new costume at 6000 points, and then your other 2 costumes once
you acquire 20000 points.

Dun's Default Costume: Purple overgarb tunic with a blue hip armor peice. His
undershirt is a dark gold as well as his pants. Wears a patch across his left
eye.

2nd costume: Dark gold overgarb tunic with light yellow undershirt and pants.
Patch has also been turned yellow.

3rd costume: His default costume from DW4. Purple overcoat with a blue hip
guard and yellow pants. He now has a cloth going over his left eye.

4th costume: Quite a badass costume. Light blue overcoat with a gold belt and
dark blue hip guard. Dark black pants and his eye patch is a little darker.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Stages
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xiahou Dun has 6 stages you play through in his musou mode. Thats 1 more then
generally normal but its all because of the wonderful "Guan Yus" escape stage.
Anyway onto the stages:

1st Stage: Battle of Xia Pi
2nd Stage: Battle of Guan Du
3rd Stage: Guan Yus Escape
4th Stage: Battle of Chang Ban
5th Stage: Battle of Hei Fei
6th Stage: Battle of Fan Castle

Note: If youre trying to acquire his 4th weapon, do it on Free Mode as its
easier then going all through his Musou mode on hard only to fail at the end
over and over.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Quotes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always like quotes in video games as they can make it better (or worse)
at times. Here is where I invite you all to find as many as you can and shoot
me an email with what you think are good ones. Also tell me when he says them
such as a "true musou attack" or when hes taunting someone. Please dont email
me if you already see one on this list, so be sure to check back here first.

11. Frequently Asked Questions
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Xiahou Dun is badass, HE ATE HIS EYE!!!
A: Yes I know, although I probably wouldnt have the guts to eat my own eye,
    it is still pretty cool.

Q: I found a mistake! WHY IS THERE A MISTAKE!!
A: Relax, just send me an email with the problem and I will fix it. Send it
to Savin877@yahoo.com and be sure to put something like "Xiahou Dun Guide"
in the title so I dont accidently delete it.

Q: I cant obtain his 4th weapon, what did I do wrong.
A: A lot of people actually forget to put the difficulty on Hard before
beggining the battle since it defaults to normal so be sure you do that.
Also make sure youre beefed up enough to take on the generals and massive
troops that are going to swarm you. Just defeat Guan Ping and then check
your Battle Log to see where the weapon showed up. Good luck!
