- INTRODUCTION -
The skill system is, once again, renovated and once again, improved. Alas, it
is quite different from the previous versions in the series so even if you are
a veteran, you will find a guide like this informative, especially those of
you who are playing a version in a language you don't understand :P
There are 6 categories of skills in this game, and 7 skills in each category,
for a total of 42 skills for officers.
The skills boost the possessing officer's effectiveness in carrying out the
relevant task.
For the PC version, both the effect of the skill and the experience required
to learn the skill can be seen from the officer profile.
Simply go to the profile. Click on the "Experience" button. Then hover your
mouse over the skill to see both the effect and the requirements.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- LEARNING A SKILL -
Learning a skill can be very, very difficult. You need to meet the
requirements, locate an officer with the skill, and make him teach you. It is
time consuming, and in some cases, your chance can be very slim.
NOTE: This guide does not apply to learning the last category of skills.
There is currently no information on how to learn those skills.
1) Meeting the requirements
The requirement can be a primary stat, an experience value, fame, a
battle/duelling/debate record, or a combination of them. Simply build your
experience, etc.
You can check all stats relevant to learning skills in your profile.
Meeting the requirements for a skill you haven't learn will prompt a message
telling you just that. Also, (for the PC version,) skills you currently may
learn are highlighted in your profile, and look very different from skills you
have or cannot learn.
2) Finding a teacher
This is simply finding an officer with the skill you are trying to learn.
However, for the "learn" option to be available, your relationship with the
officer has to be "trusted" or better. Also, to learn a duelling or debate
skill, you have to beat your trainer at the relevant contest. So it is well
within your interests to find a suitable teacher.
When you "learn", you can only choose a whole category. So make sure the skill
you want to learn is the only skill that he has and you don't have. Else he
could end up trying to teach you the skill you can't learn, resulting in a
waste of time.
3) Save your game.
I don't reload to get the best results once I figure out how to play the game,
but that is a personal preference. If you don't want to waste 20 days of game
time as a result of neglecting something (right clicking accidentally would
end the conversation and waste 1 day or 2, for instance), save to insure.
4) Talking to the teacher
Locate and talk to the officer you want to learn from. The name for categories
in the "learn" menu may look different from your usual names, for the Chinese
version:
Duel => Duelling skills (War)
Battle => Battle skills (Leadership)
Tactics => Tactics (Intelligence)
Domestics => Administrative skills (Domestics)
Debate => Debate skills (Charisma)
Also, you may not select that category in the first place if you stat is too
low compared to the teacher (under by more than 10 points).
An officer can learn skills in any of the first 5 categories from their fellow
officers. There is currently no information on how to learn skills for the
last category.
After the 20 days your "friend" may just not teach you anything at all, but
usually he will. But of course, for a duelling/debate skill, you have to beat
him first.
5) The last Hidden Catch...
...is...nothing!
Your efforts have turned into melons! (or something to that effect)
Enjoy your new skill!

- APPENDIX III - TRAINER SELECTION GUIDE -
A Suitable trainer should meet these requirements
1. Have the skill you want to learn (Or else, good luck...)
2. Have no other skill in that category
3. Have a stat in the relevant category not too much higher than your own
4. Be Located in the same city (or at least eventually)
5. Have a "trusted" or better relationship with you
6. Be someone you can beat in a duel or debate, if that is the skill you want
to learn
If there is at least 1 skill you can currently learn. Soliciting Rumors in
the Tavern may sometimes yield a suggestion for an officer who has that skill.
Though he is probably by no other means an ideal teacher.

- APPENDIX VI - CONTACT INFO -
Due to the large volume of emails I receive, the best way to contact me
is to make a thread in one of the major gaming forums for my attention.
If you don't catch me on one site. Try another. For best results,
include something along the lines of "Zubbus is the God of FAQs!",
"Zubbus's stuff is the best!", etc, in the thread title.
