Is this a turn-based RPG?

i really like turn-based RPG..... :)

Yes and no. It's not an action based system along the lines of Star Ocean or something, as the characters all take turns, but it isn't an old school turn based system where you select commands for everyone at once and then they act.

There's a wheel in the corner that has an icon for each of your characters as well as every enemy, and the icons will move along the wheel. Once one of your characters reaches a point on the wheel it will bring up a menu and allow you to choose an action, no different than any other menu in any other standard rpg. Once you select an action, your character will move the rest of the way along the wheel, and when they reach the end they will execute whatever you told them to do. The combat system is kind of like an action oriented twist on the Active Time Battle system used in the Snes and Playstation Final Fantasy games.

For an example, look at "Grandia III Gameplay Movie 6" under the Videos tab here. Action takes place in real time, but whenever one of your characters turns is up it will stop time and allow you to make your choice.
