Review by WingedRegent
"A collection for any fighting game fan."
Street Fighter was a hit in 1989 when it first came out. However, this game was overlooked and forgotten when Street Fighter II was released in 1991. Fans still wanted more, so Capcom started making expansions of Street Fighter II, ending with Super Street Fighter II Turbo in 1995. This collection has the games that chronicles the events of the franchise that took place after SSF2T, starting from Alpha 1, going all the way through Alpha 3.
Great graphics, especially for a 2D fighter. The animations are perfectly drawn and animated, and the special moves are nice to see. In my opinion, the only game that beats this in 2D graphics is SF3: TS.
Perfect sound effects for each hit you or your opponent lands. The music in Alpha 2 is my favorite, but all of the music in the game is fantastic.
The controls are spot on and responsive, as they always are for SF. The only problem with the controls is that some Super Moves need you to switch an option to make the commands easier. Other than that, the controls are great.
Replay Value: Ranges from a 7-10/10
The collection has seven games in it; Street Fighter Alpha 1, SFA2, SFA2 Gold, SFA3, and Super Gem Fighters: Mini Mix, with SFA3 Upper, and Hyper SFA being unlockable. The replay value depends on if you have people to play Versus Mode with, or if you want to master all of the character's moves in the game. Also, there is an option where you can play Versus Mode against the CPU.
There are no extras in this game, other than HSFA and SFA3U. HSFA is a game that allows you to use any character in any Alpha form you want. Example: In that game, a fight between Alpha 1 Ken and Alpha 3 Akuma is possible. Also, if you use the Alpha 3 form, you get to use four new fightins styles. There are the Darkstalkers, SF3, SFII Dash, and Marvel vs. Capcom styles. They are exclusive to that game, however. The only real downside to this game is that it is only for Versus Mode playing. SFA3U is an expansion of SFA3 with the console exclusive characters and with 3 new styles. They are Mazi, Saikyo, and Classic.
The game gets a 9 because of the lack of extras. The games on there own, however are among the greatest of the 2D fighting games.
Buy, Rent, or Avoid: Buy
This game is a must buy for any 2D fighting game fan. The game will also make a great edition to any fighting game fans collection. Overall, a great game that should be in a fighting game fans collection.
