Do you have to be in the dark wraith covenant to use the uncracked (whole) red eye orb?

I know you get the whole red eye orb from dark stalker kathe but I have heard from a friend that you cant use it unless you are in that covenant, so is it like the cracked red eye orb where you can use it freely or do you have to be in the covenant.

You have to be part of the dark wraith covenant to use the un-cracked red eye orb. If you are part of the covenant, it's essentially unlimited invasions.
