Why did serah.......?

Serah was turned into a l'cie in ff13 and she completed her focus. Art l'cie suppose to gain eternal life when they complete their focus. If that's the case then how could serah die if she has eternal life?

Even while in crystal stasis they can be destroyed, hence Serah worrying about Fang and Vanille's condition during Coccoon's destruction. While in the stasis, they are immortal by age. Even if that did carry over after their awakening, I don't think they would be impervious to physical or mystical harm.

Answer

Eternal life is only in the crystal state. When they're crystal, they cannot age, which makes them immortal. Both Vanille and Fang were once crystals, but their Eidolon's appeared to give them their life-or-death decision. So we can say l'cie have eternal life only when they are crystal.
