Resolution output ?

I'm using a V-series Sony Bravia HDTV and all my PS3 games are imported just to make things clear. I got my display settings set for max resolution of 1080p and thus the XMB screen always runs at 1080p.I have Metal Gear Solid 4 (max resolution 720p), GTA4 (max resolution 1080p) and Prince of Persia (max resolution 1080p). Now, when i play MGS4, it always runs at 1080p although its written on the game's cover that the max resolution is 720p?! GTA4 used to run at 1080p but after a while it started to run at 720p only and now i just got PoP and it too runs at 720p only from the start!! Is this a problem with my PS3 (either settings or as a whole), HDTV or the HDMI cable?

It's not a problem with the PS3, or the games...or the cable, or the TV.

What happens is that games can over-ride the PS3's XMB settings. Even if they support 1080p and you have 1080p selected, games will often select a lower resolution.

To stop this, you can try turning off 720p and/or 1080i, leaving only 1080p selected. If the game supports 1080p, it will then run at 1080p.

However, generally the reason why games run at 720p even though 1080p is selected is that the developer of the game thinks the game looks and/or runs better in 720p, so it may be best to use that.
