FFXIII Boss Strategy Guide PS3/Xbox 360 version (version 2.1)

Warning major Spoiler alerts within guide

Welcome to my boss strategy guide for FFXIII this guide will work for PS3
version and the 360 version, this guide will focus on all boss and scripted
battles and optional battles within the game. This game begins by controlling
two teams and other few times with three until until chapter 10 so prepare
for that also potions carry over to each team so try to avoid using them
since you get restored after every battle, now spoilers will be plenty in
this guide so read at your own risk, the battles are turned base you are open
to damage at any time so watch your Hp, you can also interupt enemy attacks
as well you see two bars when fightning enemies they are the Hp bar and a
gauge thats used for whats called the staggered bar with when it fills up via
damage from you attacks will do more damage until it empties, its called the
chain gauge.

Now the enemies have a field of vision which various from creature to creature
so try to get preemptive attacks as this will give you a huge advantage, also
you cant run from battles you encounter so pick your battles wisely, also you
can retry the battle if you dont get a premp attack also like in other games
there are no random battles enemies appear on the field so you can avoid them,
also if you want to keep fightning the same enemies leave the area and return
to reset the enemies, an item called the Deceptisol can shield the party from
encounters and can activate preemptive strikes more often. I will also
document all boss, scripted, and optional battles common and rare drops. I
will be documenting all or most attacks that bosses do. Also there are
creatures called eidolon battles to gain the ability to summon creatures,
these battles are more challenges then straight fightning so plan for those.
This game is a little different then others in the way of that if your leader
runs out of hp then its game over so keep that in mind, boost your leader with
a lot of Hp boost and watch your leaders hp. Keep an open mind when looking at
this guide. Use this guide as a templete to make your own strategy, I cant
tell you how to beat the boss, scripted and optional battles, but I can arm
you with the knowledge and the info you will need.

Also I will be documenting all marks you will meet, now there are 64 total
so more updates to come, remeber these can be done doing the main story but
some may be too hard for your team at that point all should be easy after
completing the main story, except for the first two plus the ones at Taejin's
Tower that have to be completed to move the story along, every mission drops
great items and most of them are worth it, plus whats best is that you can do
them over and over to collect items needed for upgrades so have at it, this
guide does not focus on just one team, this guide will work with any team
so feel free to use whoever you want, the button to end the eidolon fights for
the 360 press the x button to end the fight.

mind that it regenerates the manipulators once that happens rinse and repeat
keep an eye on eveyone hp and use potions when need be once it falls below
50% of Hp it becomes more aggresive so keep that in mind, use what works,

askes is that one person heal and fill up the chain guage, at the start he
will cast doom as shiva did you need to fill his gauge before the timer
reaches zero or its game over, he uses Ullr's Sheild which does moderate
damage and some spells so be ready to heal you only need to use
two different paradigm they are Medic for healing and dual cast to amass a

this time once it gets staggered it can be juggled to keep it from doing
any damage, make sure you unlock Launch ability from lightnings grid and

(1x) Aster Protoflorian Rare Drop: none

tough do to only having two party members, to begin you will have to switch
into multiple Paradigm doing the fight to be successful, watch out for
efforscence which does multiple light damage to one or more party members,
also watch out for an attack that shoots from the back it does medium damage
on one party member, also it has the ability to change its weakness so use
magic of the opposite element to do good damage, if you can get it staggered
it is susceptible to lightning launch attack as long as she is in a commando
role doing that time, it only has a 200% to reach to stagger so make that
your goal, keep an eye on Hp if a member falls below 50% heal up, you can use
odin if you so chose to but he may not be as effective so its up to you,
overall a moderate battle to win.

fight can be very hard with two party members, to begin focus on enlil because
it has the more dangerous attacks, watch out for thunderburst, also watch out
for bellow as it adds status enhancements, also watch out for enraged as it
gives high resistance to status attacks, and trample which they both can do,
also watch out for raging tempest which does moderate damage to both party
members, Enki has raging torment which does moderate damage, now these
attacks can be cancelled if you hit them while they charge it up, use what

be difficult if your not prepared, one attack to watch out for is its tail
hammer attack which does heavy damage to both party members so change to
different paradigm to ensure you are fully healed before it happens, other
attacks do light damage like Napalm so it shouldnt become a problem, it also
uses overdrive which puts it in standard buffs but it seems to lose def when
this happens, remember that its staggered guage only needs to go up to 150%
so make that your goal, also remember this is a only the first encounter of
two that will happen as the other encounter will come up aganist another team
it has a weakness to lightning so use if you have it, overall a easy fight to

and lightning join the battle it begins once again watch out for laser rain
which can hit one or more more party members, also watch out for pinpoint
beam and photon beam which does moderate damage multiple times once it gets
staggered let your attacks go so they can do a lot of damage, it is weak to

to this fight is to knock out the parts surrounding the ship to do maximum
damage aganist the main body, watch out for main cannon as it hits one person
for moderate damage twice it will do other attacks from its turrents so be
ready they all do light to medium damage, keeping a healer in the fight does
wonders do to the fact that they dont do much damage, work on the turrents
then the hulls by doing so you limit the attacks aganist you, remember that
you cant attack it at close range but lightning weapon should do fine as does
the ability Ruin keep lightning attacking the parts while the others heal and
keep everyone alive, once everything is gone do a full attack on the body also

fight is pretty easy all it does is nerve gas which puts one or both in poison
status, begin by casting buffs on you and debuffes on the enemy, you can cure
poison but dont try since it will use it multiple times, this boss seems to be
easily staggered since the guage is low so make that your goal, it also uses a
physical atack which does light damage so not much to worry about, after the
first stagger ends it does releasing arm restrants which means its about to use
its main cannon called railgun so make sure you are fully healed becuse it
does moderate to heavy damage make sure to heal the person after it is done,
use what works with your team, overall a moderatly hard fight to win.

parts now all parts do magical attacks and focus it on multiple member so be
sure to keep an eye on your hp, each part has a elemental weakness so
exploit that watch out for magic amplification as it adds buffs to its parts,
once all parts are destroyed focus on the body now he has one attack that
could give you trouble its called destrudo ability it happens after its been
staggered once make sure everyone is at full hp to survive the attack then
heal up it takes about 25 seconds before it happens so prepare with buffs and
full hp, you can also caus eit to do less damage by hitting him doing this
time you should be able to do it twice before it is used, you know that it
works when he flinches, but remember wont stop it use what works, this boss
battle is the hardest so far overall a very very hard fight to win.

In this fight you are aganist cid raines now this fight is interesting because
he has three different shifts they are offensive, defensive, recovery doing
these modes he does various abilities so be ready, the first half of the fight
is pretty simple, he is weak to slow and curse so get those status changes on
him and raise his chain gauge to stagger him as quickly as possible, watch
out for his metamorphose ability at this point he will use Seraphic ray
which inflicts heavy damage on one or more party members, doing his recovery
shift is when to heal then continue the assault, keep working towards
staggering him the guage goes down slow so there is time to heal before
continuing, watch out for physical attacks as well, use what works, if you

not a lot but it does damage, once staggerd you should be able to build the
gauge to 999% wail away use army of one twice at the start maybe a third time

at eden doing the main game, then you know what to expect, if you do this
after beating the game it is much easier, since you fought it before same
strategy applies here as well, remember it can clean status effects away, so
if you plan to inflict might be a good idea as for doing that time it wont
attack, it uses mostly physical attacks, it adds in fire attacks as well, so
be ready, once staggered it should fall easily, use what works depending on
team, overall aeasy fight to win.

In this part 1 of 2 fights in a row you are aganist five numidia now the
real boss has not popped up yet so this is a straightfoward fight defeat them
quickly remember they can attack fast and a lot at once so keep an eye on hp

(Mission 34)

(1x) Tonberry

(1x) Tonberry Common Drop: Chocobo Plume
(1x) Tonberry Rare Drop: Tonberry Figurine

In this fight you are aganist zenobia I mean a tonberry, the reason this is
is that the tonberry kills zenobia so you are left facing the tonberry now as
all FF fans know about the tonberry, this one is no different then the others
it uses grudge attack which gets stronger the longer you stay in the battle,
at lvl 4 grudge it will kill you so defeat it as quick as you can, it uses its
knife to attack and some magic it can cast fog status change but shouldnt
become a problem, once you get it staggered it should not take long to defeat
it it helps if lightning has a gunblade weapon on that can do a quick stagger
as it may stagger the tonberry sooner, it is weak to earth elements and have
a sabetour cast debuffs like imperil to make it weak to multiple elements, key
thing here is to make sure at the start you switch to a paradigm that has a
synergist and a sabetour as this will help a lot, use what works depending on
team, overall a easy fight to win.

(1x) Borgbear Hero Rare Drop: Infernal Horn

In this fight you are aganist four borgbears and a borgbear hero, now this
fight is most likely easier then the marks you fought here so far, watch out
for there attacks as they happen fast, the borgbear can morph into a bigger
form but this shouldnt happen if you defeat them quick enough, a premp
attack is very useful here but you may have to use one of your shards to pull
it off, the borgbear hero can cast buffs on its allies but still shouldnt
become a problem use what works depending on team, area effect spells work
well if they are all together, staggereing them is easy so make that your goal
overall a very easy fight to win.

(1x) Zimitra Rare Drop: Menacing Wing

In this fight you are aganist zimitra now if you are not well develop yet I
wouldnt recommend doing this battle until you are, if you are then, its basic
attack does about 3000 points of damage, another one removes buffs and puts
party members in debuff but they dont last long, watch out if someone gets
poisoned then keep an eye on hp to switch to a healing paradigm, it also use
feeding swoop ability which does close to 10,000 points of damage on one
person, key here is to get it staggered as quick as you can, fast attacks
can stall feeding swoop for the duration of the stagger, remember it can be
provoked by a sentinal which is useful since its attacks go for one party
member, use what works depending on team, overall a very hard fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist a Raktavija at Titans Throne (Mission 47)

(1x) Raktavija

(1x) Raktavija Common Drop: Shaman's Mark
(1x) Raktavija Rare Drop: Rune Bracelet

In this fight you are aganist a Raktavija now this battle is the same as
with its breathern so same strategy applies, this one cast the top tier spells
is the only difference which can become annoying, it still uses inertial
barrier to make it immune to physical attacks but not magic, you goal here
at the start is to get it staggered once that happens depending on damage
you should be able to knock more than half its hp before the stagger ends
also doing this time it will remove your buffs you have on so be ready, it
is weak to imperil and slow if you can get it to stick which will give you
an advantage, once it gets staggered a second time it should fall, use what
works depending on team and paradigm, overall a hard fight to win.

(3x) Tonberry Common Drop: Chocobo Plume
(3x) Tonberry Rare Drop: Tonberry Figurine

just with three, a premp attack is very key to winning this fight, use shrouds
to give you an advantage, the remaining one may raise its grudge high by the
time you defeat the other two so be ready, use what works, overall a moderatly
easy fight to win.

harder if your not ready, watch out for its three attacks mostly the screech
ability which can remove buffs and put members into status changes, it also
does heavy damage on everyone, one way to win the fight in very little time
is to put vanille in your party and make sure you have the death spell for
her, if you do cast it repeatedly until it dies, use what works, overall a
hard fight to win.

neochu mission already then the same strategy applies here if not, this battle
is easy compared to mission 45, it uses all the same abilities at neochu does
they are just weaker, it is still weak to fire so barfire or flamestrike work
really well, it will summon more so be ready, defeat the ochu first since it
can heal its allies hp, earth resistance is good but might not be needed it
depends on when you do it, use what works, overall a moderatly easy fight to
win.

type battle so same strategy applies here, defeat it before it stands up right
at this point it gets a new full bar of hp, its weak to different status
changes so make sure to take advantage of them, only real thing to watch
out for is heave as it does moderate damage to one party member, use what
works depending on team, overall a very easy fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist Attacus at Titans Throne (Mission 51)

(1x) Attacus

(1x) Attacus Common Drop: Zealot's Amulet
(1x) Attacus Rare Drop: Battle Talisman

In this fight you are aganist attacus now this battle is a lot harder then
your previous bout with wladislaus, it uses more attacks but only has a 400
point boost in strength then its breathern, its regular attack is weak and
not much to worry about, it is weak to status changes and it can be provoked
into attacking a sentinel only just keep that sentinel healed, it can remove
status buffs but shouldnt become a problem, when it loses abot 23% of its hp
it will use the unrelenting blade ability which does almost no damage to a
sentinel and about 2000 damage to anyone else, still not a bigh issue, keep
buffs on and keep debuffing the enemy, when it loses about half its hp it will
uses its peerless blade ability which is stronger but still wont be to much
of a problem, it will cast doom at low health around 2,500,000 and lower at
this point its all or nothing use what works, overall a very very hard fight
to win.

(1x) Adamantortoise Common Drop: Platinum Ingot
(1x) Adamantortoise Rare Drop: Trapezohedron

In this fight you are aganist an Adamantortoise now this fight can be very
hard because it can do heavy damage with its stomps from its legs, also watch
out for quake as it does moderate damage there are two ways to win one is to
go straight out knock out the legs as fast as you can then cast status
changes once it falls over it has a lot of hp but once you get it staggered
it should be easy, the other way is to use your Eidolon at the start of the
fight since they disable the legs at the start, either use vanille or sazh
upgrade their weapons to t2 weapons, if its vanille cast status changes then
perform death as it can be killed this way, it does require luck to make it
happen if you are in haste and heavy buffs then you should be able to get 15
death spells in before it gets back up, if this happens retry the battle if
you are doing this without a lot of hp death is the way to go, use what works
depending on team, overall a very very hard fight to win.

(1x) Neochu Rare Drop: Sunpetal

In this fight you are aganist five picochu and a neochu now this fight is
excatly the same as mission 45 so same strategy applies you should use death
to win but remember watch out for screech as it still does the same, ignore
the picochu and focus on neochu, remeber imperil is the only status change
elemental type on weapons should be effective, use what works depending on
how well develp your team is, overall a hard fight to win.

In this fight you are aganist two raktavija now this fight is excatly the same
as previous missions so same strategy applies just this time theres two
instead of one one thing they will cast 3rd tier spells at the start of the
fight so magic resistance plus a sentinal could be key, make sure to use
shrouds to give you an advantage, defeat one of them and the other one should
be easy, use what works, also it will dispel a postive buffs once the stagger
ends so be ready, overall a moderatly difficult fight to win.

the sahagins attack fast so a sent could be key, if you are doing this and
you are well developed then this battle should be easy, last about 5 seconds
at most if you are low lvled or medium lvled then this fight could pose a
challenge, area effect spells work wonders if they are all close together,
use what works depending on team and paradigm, overall a easy fight or a
moderatly hard fight to win depends on when you do it.

same as out in the field more then likely you fought one already so same

are excatly the same as out in the field so same strategy applies, remember

stagger the pulsework centurion to disable it form attacking, a shroud use
here is very important as you can stagger both , as with all behemoths watch
out for heave as it still does heavy damage, use what works depending on team
and paradigm, overall a easy battle to win.

(1x) Juggernaut Rare Drop: Particle Accelerator

use what works depending on team or paradigm, overall a easy fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist Vercingetorix at the Paddraean Archaeopolis (Mission 64)

(1x) Vercingetorix

(1x) Vercingetorix Common Drop: Twenty-sided Die
(1x) Vercingetorix Rare Drop: Ribbon

In this battle you are aganist vercingetorix now this battle is going to be
very hard because of the fact that it uses many different skills, however it
becomes easy because it follows a set pattern on how it uses skills so you can
prepare for it it uses physical attacks that can attack all party members, it
then uses depending on what you do impenetrable aura which makes it tempoarily
invincible to all forms of damage lights army of one will still do damage
at this point it is a good time to heal and refresh buffs, also it will
recover hp, it also then puts its self in bravery buff, make sure to dispel it
before moving on, it also uses wind shear and putrescence which does light
wind damge and the other can dispel up to two buffs, it is weak to status
changes and it is weak to poison so inflict it could give you a huge advantage
it does have the most hp within the game, you should be able to stagger him
but you only get a few seconds before it uses impenetrable aura again, keep
the buffs up as it may delay him using it, he will use it a lot so be ready
at about 10 million or less it begins to use wicked whirl which does light
damage multiple times wind resistance is very key so rings with wind
resistance are good, control fang if you raised her attack high and have
one of her ultimate weapons on as it will do lots of damage, for wicked whirl
make sure you switch to an all sent paradigm to reduce damage, if you take
too long it will cast doom on you so try not to make that happen, use what
works, overall a very very hard fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist Gigantuar at the Eastern Tors (Mission 54)

(1x) Gigantaur Common Drop: Chocobo Tail Feather
(1x) Gigantaur Rare Drop: Cactaur Doll

In this fight you are aganist a gigantaur which is just a giant cactaur now
this fight is some what easy since the only attack it does is 10,000 needles
but it also puts the wearer in pain and fog status changes, it attacks fast
but 10,000 needles is the only attack it does this can become a problem if one
or more get caught in pain and fog, best paradigm is to keep one medic going
while the others attack, it doesnt have a lot of health and it is weak to fire
so it should be easy to bring down, use what works depending on team, overall
a moderatly hard fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist Zirnitra at the Eastern Tors (Mission 52)

(1x) Zirnitra

(1x) Zirnitra Common Drop: Severed Wing
(1x) Zirnitra Rare Drop: Menacing Wing

(3x) Gelatitan

(3x) Gelatitan Common Drop: Murky Ooze
(3x) Gelatitan Rare Drop: Wonder Gel

This fight is the same as mission 21 just has three instead of one so same
strategy applies to this fight as in that one weaken them with debuffs they
are resistant to physical attacks but they are weak to thunder magic so a
rav will be effective once one is defeated repeat for the other two once the
second one is down the third should be easy a sentinal could be effective to
absorb damage, use what works, overall a moderatly hard fight to win.

Boss Fight aganist Zirnitra and (3x) Ceratoraptors at the Subterranean Lake
(Mission 59)

(1x) Zirnitra

zirnitra is the same as in previous missions so same strategy applies, death
can also be used if so desire but it has a low chance of happening as for the
ceratoraptors they are the same as in previous missions, remember once again
they can call ceratosaurs if allowed so try to avoid that happening or the
fight becomes longer then it needs to be, remember it can remove buffs on
your party it can also inflict poison which shouldnt become an issue, both
of the monsters attack very fast so you need to watch your Hp as you fight
also remember as always it has feeding swoop which can do up to 10,000 damage
to a single party member, use what works depending on team and paradigm,
overall a hard fight to win.

Well thats it for this guide once you complete all the missions some of the
monsters change namely the tortoise out there at the steppes so make sure
your ready for that switch I had a lot of fun making this guide, the thing to
remember is that this guide is here for you to build your own strategy off of
what I put it may not be the best but it will work, also remember keep an
open mind when reading this guide.
