"Uncharted: PS3's Fortune"

There was a time when PS3's defeat on the console war was imminent like its exclusives going multiplatform. It was a dark time for Sony as they could do nothing but watch powerful corporates like Microsoft bribe game developers to betray the PS3 exclusives. PS3 games were overrun on almost all fronts (especially against Gears of War) until they were forced to fall back at their last line of defense which was Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Should this game be captured by Microsoft as well then all hope would have been lost for Sony (fortunately since it's made by SCEA, it can't be taken prisoner).

Uncharted is an action-adventure game that mixes with Indiana Jones and Gears of War. The combat gameplay consists of Gears formula as Nathan Drake (the main protagonist) can take cover over many parts of the environment with the single touch of a button and a shooting system that takes place in an over-the-shoulder view(unless you blindfire or run n' gun). Similar to Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Uncharted has puzzles (which are easy but engaging and immersive) and lots of platform jumping.

The character animations are one of the best I've ever seen. Nate reacts to the environment as how a person reacts in real life; when pinned down, he clenches his teeth and shows fear in his face as well as desperation to stay alive. Also when about to move on to a next platform while hanging, he reaches his arm out to his next destination, keeping you knowing on where to go. It makes the game's adventure section unfrustratingly easy but it's so well done that you won't care.

The controls? Well what can I say? It's perfectly easy to adapt and very responsive. The only problem though is that sometimes, it's too sensitive and when pressing the cover button, it might cause unfair deaths because you accidentally pressed it on the wrong area where you didn't want it to be (like at a wall where enemies fire on your side while you struggle to get out of cover but too late, you die).

Uncharted features one of the best graphics on the gaming market. The jungle environments are lush and the effect of water and sunlight is simply spectacular. When outside, the lighting becomes so shiny that I can't help but rotate the camera just to appreciate the scenery. Uncharted's graphics department even rivals that of MGS4 and Gears....

The story is well-told and you meet interesting characters like your friend Sully and a reporter named Elena. They bring a lot of humor on the table and through some of their actions, the plot becomes interestingly unpredictable where stating the obvious is no good. The cutscenes actually beats MGS4 as even though they're almost 1/2 hour shorter, they contain so much action and non-boring dialog. Even the story beats MGS4 as it's more mature and doesn't cover up childish plots with politics.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is one of the top PS3 games on the market. It truly exceeded my expectations as well as win a decisive victory for Sony on one of the console war's greatest battles.
