How to do Noel's moves?

When using her Chain Revolver combo, she is able to throw out one of her guns and make it spin. I've done it a couple of times while button mashing, but how do you do it? I've looked in the instruction manual and had no luck. Can anyone help?

Press toward the opponent and your hard attack (Circle by default).
