The first thing you'll notice after playing any time at all is that there
are essentially three ways to damage an enemy with your HF Katana: Blade
Mode, Wide Attacks and Strong Attacks.

BLADE MODE/ZANDATSU

While in Blade Mode, use the Right Stick to adjust the angle, and the Left
Stick to change direction. Release the Right Stick to swing your sword in the
current direction. You can perform rapid vertical strikes with Y (Xbox360) or
Triangle (PS3) and rapid horizontal strikes with X (Xbox 360) or Square (PS3).

If you've already weakened an enemy (or in some cases, when you for examble
catch an enemy off guard) you'll notice a red square on the enemy after you
enter Blade Mode. Manually cut through that square and you can press B (Xbox360)
or Circle (PS3) to rip your foe's fuel cells from their body and fully replenish
your own. This is called a 'Zandatsu' strike. You'll hear a blip and notice the
square getting four - marks on each side when you've aligned your blade
correctly.

         |======================|=============|=================|
         | Left Analog | Left Analog | Move Camera |
         | Right Analog |Right Analog | Manual Cut |
         |Press/Hold Left Analog| L3 | Strafe/Move |
         | Y | Triangle | Vertical Cut |
         | X | Square | Horizontal Cut |
         | B | Circle | Zandatsu |
         ''''

When you enter Blade Mode at any random moment, time will slow down by 50%,
giving you a slight edge over your enemies (who can still, however, attack you).
Entering Blade Mode when you've weakened your opponent slows time down to 10%,
which means all enemies move with only 1/10th of your own speed. This greatly
enhances your possibilities and especially increases the chance for getting a
Zandatsu trike. Not only weakening your opponent makes this extreme slow motion
effect possible. Other instances are: Killing your target (with a sneak attack,
or regularly), the usage of specific attacks, breaking your foe's armor, or
under special circumstances, such as boss fights.

You'll notice that when you do one of the above (usually weakening enemies), a
short flash and the slowing of time for an instant means you can enter Blade
Mode efficiently (with the 10% slow-mo effect).

It should be noted that (heavily) armored enemies cannot just be sliced at any
given moment (regular cyborgs can's be dismembered at any given moment, but you
can always perform a Zandatsu on them, although it's a little more difficult to
do this without the slowmotion effect). The armored enemies will always have to
be (severely) weakened first. Alternatively you can try to sneak behind these
enemies for an instant Zandatsu strike.

The gory animation makes quite a lot of sound, and you might worry that enemies
may 'hear' you wasting their cyborg friends. That worry ends here. Enemies can
only see what's in their short-sighted vision, and sound (such as behind a very
closeby corner) simply won't alert them - ever. Do be careful they don't spot
you slicing up their brother in law. While you might like to see that happen in
real life, they'll always have your mind set on exterminating you.

It's also good to know that during the fuel cell extraction animation, Raiden
is completely invulnerable from any attacks.

TIP: You don't have to manually slice through the Zandatsu square, as the above
controls show. An alternative method that you may find useful is to align
the camera horizontally while performing vertical slashes with Y/Triangle.
Most of the time, this works quite well.

FUEL CELLS/FC

Blade Mode requires fuel, and Raiden's FC bar (which stands for Fuel Cells) is
an indication of how long you can use it. A blue bar indicates you're good to
go with Blade Mode; if it turns yellow you'll use the slow motion effect. A full
bar will spark with electricity, and later on, when you unlock 'Jack the Ripper'
mode, the bar will turn red when full.

There are four ways to refill Raiden's FC gauge:

1. Repair Units dropped by enemies restore some FC.
2. Repair Nanopaste items drop quite a lot of FC.
3. A successful Zandatsu strike fully replenishes the FC bar.
4. Dealing regular damage to foes slowly regenerates FC.

PARRYING/BLOCKING

Parrying is key to mastering MGR, and you will most likely not be able to
complete the game on higher difficulties without it. On Easy, parrying is done
automatically for you, but on any other difficulty you'll have to do it
yourself.

Incoming attacks can come from all directions (360 degrees) and are indicated
by little red flashes. You'll need to press the left analog stick simultaneously
with X (Xbox360) or Square (PS3) to parry, and the left analog stick must be
pushed in the direction the attack is coming from. Most importantly, the left
analog stick can NOT be held during this time (or you'd block perhaps one attack
at most). You must release the left analog stick to it's initial position and
press it again in the same or other direction to parry other attacks.

If you time all of this precisely before the enemy hit you, a parry can be
performed on the slightly stunned enemy. Otherwise, Raiden will simply block
the enemy attack, which usually works fine as well. The parry counter only
starts becoming necessary on the 'Very Hard' and 'Revengeance' difficulties,
but it's wise to start practicing it early on.

DODGING ATTACKS

Not all attacks can be parried or blocked. Any attack where the enemy flashes
yellow for a brief moment are such attacks, and you'll want to avoid them by
running around with Ninja Run or by pressing X+A (Xbox 360) or Square+X (PS3)
along with the left analog stick.

After a cutscene, the game opens with you - Raiden - being attacked by several
PMC soldiers. If you've read the control basics, you should know by now that
parrying plays a very important role in MGR. To parry, all you need to do is
press the left analog stick in the direction the attack is coming from (as
indicated by little red dots and flashes on the screen), plus the X button (on
Xbox 360) or the Square button (on Playstation 3). It's important to realise
that the left stick can NOT be HOLD in order to parry (multiple) attacks. You
must always release the left stick and press it again (simultaneously with the
'light attack button') to parry attacks.

Waste the PMC soldiers and practice your parry skills while you're at it, using
mainly light attacks. Quickly head around the corner and make your way to the
grate gate, then cut it open and continue.

| BOSS BATTLE: METAL GEAR RAY |

The fight against Metal Gear Ray can be overwhelming to new players, but some
practice makes perfect. Below you can find Ray's attacks, along with tips on
 how to effectively dodge them.

NOTE: If you cut off Metal Gear Ray's tail you unlock the 'Steel Tail'
trophy/achievement. Stand in front of Ray, parry its tail attack and
slice off the tail in Blade Mode.

During the battle it is imperative to stay close to Ray's legs while carving
them with your sword. He'll try to cover some distance by jumping to the far
side of the street, so you'll need to run towards him ASAP (dodging his attacks
 - see below).

After some practice you'll find that the fight is fairly straightforward. You
must cut the armor from Ray's legs (twice for each leg), after which Raiden
automatically enters Blade Mode. You can then carve up the leg's armor (the
first time you weaken each particular leg), or destroy one of Ray's turrets
(the second time you severely weaken one of its legs). After doing this twice
on both legs, Metal Gear Ray will perform an arm smash attack that triggers a
Quick Time Event (QTE) that goes as follows:

 Xbox 360: Y+B, X (tap), Y (tap), X (tap).
PS3: Triangle+Circle, Square (tap), Triangle (tap), Square (tap).

As for Metal Gear Ray's attacks:

ROCKET LAUNCH: Ray launches several rockets into a moderately large area right
in front of him. You can see where they'll land by carefully
looking for red circles appearing on the ground. Stay away from those circles
to avoid this attack altogether. The rockets will stick in the ground for a
few seconds before blowing up. It's possible to cut them open and destroying
them, but ignoring them completely while keeping your distance works as well.
 De

TAIL SWIPE: A long range attack, Metal Gear Ray turns around and sweeps his
tail across the area. You'll have to jump over its tail in order
to prevent getting hit, since the tail covers the entire area. Alternatively
you can parry the tail attack, which allows you to enter Blade Mode (and
cutting off Ray's tail, which grants a trophy/achievement).

GUNFIRE: While not particularly damaging, getting hit by the gunfire can be
troublesome if you're aiming for a no-damage playthrough. Use the
Ninja Run while horizontally moving towards the other side of the screen for
the best chance to avoid this attack.

PLASMA BEAM: Another long range attack, the plasma beam is usually accompanied
by gunfire. It's not too difficult to attack the large beam by
running horizontally to the other side of the screen (or diagonally towards
Ray's position to close in on him) with Ninja Run. Ray will also perform a
second, horizontal beam attack (instead of vertical, like the first), which it
typically uses after the first beam attack. Hiding underneath Ray is a safe
option if you're already close. If you're still far away, jumping over this
beam is likely your only option, but this is quite dangerous, so try to avoid
 getting yourself into this situation.

CHARGE RAM: Ray performs this attack when you're standing at a distance; it
roars beforehand, then tries to ram you by running towards you and
attempting to slam its face into Raiden's body. Use Ninja Run to move along the
side of Ray to avoid this attack. This is usually an excellent opportunity to
attack Ray's legs (or tail). If you manage to parry this attack, you'll get a
chance to enter Blade Mode and destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying the
attack after this will grant more opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.

FACE SMASH: An attack used at close range, initiated when you're standing in
front of Ray. He'll perform this move three times in a row, trying
to smash its face into Raiden. It's best avoided by circling around Ray with
Ninja Run, also allowing you to close in on its legs and carve your way through
them. If you manage to parry this attack, you'll get a chance to enter Blade
Mode and destroy Ray's armored head shell. Parrying the attack after this will
grant more opportunities to destroy Ray's turrets.

ARM SWIPES: When you're standing right in front of Ray, he'll sometimes perform
his vertical arm swipe twice. This is tricky to jump over, so you
will want to avoid standing in front of it for too long. Staying close to its
legs is much safer. Parrying this attack is also a possibility.

FOOT STOMP: When you're carving off Ray's callus from its legs, naturally he
gets aggravated and try to crush you with said foot. A dotted red
line indicates where he'll hit the ground, although he moves along as you run
away; only a quick Ninja Run circling around Ray will surely escape from
getting hit by this attack. Parrying a foot stomp attack gives you a chance to
cut away the leg's armor (or turret, if the armor has already been destroyed).

| BOSS BATTLE: METAL GEAR RAY - PART 2 |

This battle takes place in a much smaller area than the previous fight, giving
a big twist to most of Ray's attacks, although he employs some new moves too.

Study his attacks (see below) and keep damaging its head. After a short while,
Raiden will enter blade mode, allowing you to cut off its head's armor. Keep
damaging its head (which is possible even when it's not stuck, although you
are somewhat more vulnerable to - and less able to anticipate - Ray's attacks.
After destroying its turret during the second blade mode, inflicing a little
more damage to Ray will trigger a QTE that goes like this:

Xbox 360: Left Stick Up + RT (hold both), Blade Mode. Then you'll need to stay
on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left
side immediately after running over the pillar. After this: X (tap).

PS3: Left Stick Up + R2 (hold both), Blade Mode. Then you'll need to stay
on the right side of the tower as you run down, moving to the left
side immediately after running over the pillar. After this: Square
	   (tap).

These are Metal Gear Ray's attacks:

RAY BEAM: Always performed at the start of battle, this horizontal beam attack
is used twice (first coming from the right, then from the left). To
dodge it, don't stand too close to Ray and jump over the beam.

FACE SMASH: Ray always uses this attack directly after his first beam attack.
He'll tilt its head slightly backwards and smashes it in your
direction. As soon as you see him preparing this, move away from its head into
the direction where the most space is available. Since its face will get stuck
for several seconds, now is an excellent time to deal some damage to your foe.

BOMB DROP: Ray hovers its arm above the left side of the area, dropping various
bombs out of it. Enter blade mode and slice them all up to prevent
getting hit. You might be able to slice a bit faster with Y+X (Xbox 360) or
 Square+Triangle (PS3) compared to using the right analog stick for cutting;
precision isn't really required here anyway. Beware - the bombs will drop
 twice.

FACE/BODY SMASH: Similar to its face smash, Ray will leap back and slam its
head into the right side of the building; that means the left
side of the area is safe. With its head stuck, now is once again an excellent
time to deal some damage to Ray.

ARM SMASH: Ray smashes its arm vertically into the ground. Quickly moving left
or right should allow you to dodge this attack.

 ROCKET LAUNCH: Ray leaps back and launchers several rockets in your direction;
once again, the red circles indicate their landing positions.
This time - while possible to ignore them - it's wiser to cut them loose and
destroy them, since the field is much smaller and you get Repair Nanopaste out
of them as well. Running around the roof with Ninja Run while performing weak
slashes is an excellent way to achieve this.

TURRET FIRE: Not very damaging, but annoying when doing a no-damage run, the
turret will occassionally at you. Ninja running around the area
deflects or dodges the shots easily.

to try nonetheless. When you decide playtime is over, use Ninja Run to climb

which you can also take if you haven't cut them to pieces yet).

RANKED BATTLE #1

Three cyborgs "ambush" you, giving you an excellent opportunity to test out
Blade Mode's Zandatsu. Once you've staggered an enemy (as indicated by a slow-mo
effect accompanied by a flash at their body), enter Blade Mode when nearby your
foe. You'll see a red square; hit it with one of your swipes and press B (Xbox)
or Square (PS3) to rip the fuel cells out of your enemy, restoring your health,
FC, and giving you bonus points on battle rankings.

Parry your enemies' attacks and experiment with Raiden's moveset. It's good to
know that you will be able to get S-rankings on battles much more easily after
you've upgrades Raiden's body and weapons, so it's not necessary to keep
replaying the battle over and over right now; chapters can be replayed later.

You can find [300 BP] in a box right before heading through the doors on the
other side of the room. Move through the corridor and look for a [REPAIR
NANOPASTE] at the far end of the upper half (use Ninja Run to get there, or
simply jump over the gap). Stand nearby the cyborg (while still on the upper
walkway) to activate the option to press B/Square. This is a special 'ninja'
move that instantly kills your foes and allows you to enter Blade Mode for a
Zandatsu finisher.

MAIN THOROUGHFARE - PART 1

Enemies: Cyborg x4

Head outside and collect a [GRENADE] from the box to the right of the stairs.
Don't use the stairs but walk back to the left side of the area. Ninja Run over
the bridge and approach the cyborg from his back to stealthily waste him.
There's a [GRENADE] on the ground nearby the boxes, which you can use to climb
the passageway. Move to the other side to find [500 BP], then stand nearby one
of the floor windows and carve it by using Blade Mode. Wait for the guard to
walk underneath it to perform a stealth kill.

Return to the spot where you killed the first guard (on the left side of the
area) and move to the far right towards the fence. From here, Ninja Run to the
spot where the first cyborg was standing and leap towards the two cyborgs in the
street, performing a stealth kill by pressing B/Square in midair and carving up
both cyborgs simultaneously if possible. Speak with the civilian and be on your
way. You can find a [GRENADE] in the corner of the building to your right. If
you hadn't done so already, you can also climb this building to collect the 500
BP mentioned earlier.

MAIN THOROUGHFARE - PART 2 (RANKED BATTLE #2)

Enemies: Gekko, Cyborg x4

As you proceed through the thoroughfare you'll be forced to fight a Gekko and
four cyborgs. Parry their attacks and beware of the Gekko's grapple attack
(it will flash yellow when it attempts this); either avoid it altogether by
using Defensive Offense (pressing X+A (Xbox 360) or Square+X (PS3)
simultaneously), or wiggle the left analog stick to perform a counter move.

MAIN THOROUGHFARE - PART 3

There are several items you can find before proceeding to the next part of the
thoroughfare:

- There's a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] on the first viaduct.
- In a corner on the right side of the area is an item box with [300 BP].
- Nearby the church on the left side of the area there's a [REPAIR NANOPASTE]
in a box to the right side.

|!| Look for this box to the left of the church doors; it contains the data |!|
|!| storage item. You will need to use Blade Mode to cut the blue lock. |!|
`

As for the enemies up ahead, start by taking out the cyborg to the left side of
the area - he's just beyond some boxes that have another [ROCKET LAUNCHER]
lying next to them. Only approach this cyborg when the gekko is walking over
the viaduct to the other side. After killing him in stealth-fashion, backtrack
to the other side of the street (climb the walkway) and wait for the first gekko
to jump down the thoroughfare. Quickly Ninja Run to the first cyborg (or
alternatively the second one, but hug the wall while doing so) and waste him.
If this triggers caution, quickly backtrack again until it goes away.

The remaining cyborg can be killed when the gekko has once again jumped on the
thoroughfare (wait for it to make another round). This leaves only the two
gekkos. The first one can easily be killed by following it over the viaduct and
dispatching it from behind in the left corner. The second gekko in the main
thoroughfare can now easily be destroyed. Be sure to collect the [REPAIR
NANOPASTE] in the upper right corner of the street before heading through the
door on the upper left side.

| BOSS BATTLE: BLADE WOLF (LQ-84i) - RANKED BATTLE #3|

The fight with Blade Wolf can justly be interpreted as a tutorial on how to
master parrying. Its attacks are plenty and you'll need to parry them by
tapping the left analog stick (plus X [Xbox 360] or Square [PS3]) in the right
direction (while not holding it down).

Blade Wolf will summon three cyborgs after you damage it enough, and one gekko
after that. The battle can be finished after these replenishing supplies have
been dealt with. There are a few minor BP items on the battlefield (smash the
small crates in the center of the area), as well as a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] near
the door, but nothing too noteworthy.

BLADE THROW: Blade Wolf's Blade Throw is his most basic attack. Just as you
saw in the cutscene, he uses his tail to throw three knives at
you. If you are standing still they will aim for center mass, but if you are
running they will spread out. A simple parry will protect you in either case.

CLAW SWIPE: The Claw Swipe attack is only used when you're fairly close to
Blade Wolf. He will rear back a bit and then leap forward, using
his right claw to attack. The swipe is rather large, but a well-timed parry
will open Blade Wolf up to a counterattack.

BODY CHARGE: A vicious attack! Blade Wolf will throw himself at you at a
high velocity! He can do this several times in a row if he
wishes (and you dodge). He can also leap off of the side of a wall to add
even more velocity to this attack. A parry will keep you safe here, but a
perfect-parry will drop Blade Wolf right in front of you instead of knocking
him far away, so aim for perfection so you can hurt him even further.

CHAINSAW COMBO: This is an interesting attack. You know it is coming when
Blade Wolf uses his tail to grab the chainsaw, which he only
does when you are somewhat close to him. He will then start to swing it around
and hit you with it. He will often only use either a horizontal swipe or a
leaping vertical slam, which consist of one hit each (and one parry), but he
can also chain together a three-hit attack (horizontal swipe, vertical slam,
horizontal swipe), so be ready to parry multiple times and counter afterward.

RAMPAGE: Another vicious attack. Blade Wolf will charge up and pounce
around the battle area. He pounces around five times in total
before he is done, and if you are caught unaware during this attack he will
pounce on TOP of you and impale you with his chainsaw. Thankfully this attack
is easy to parry, as Blade Wolf has a habit of trying to actually pounce on
you during his FOURTH pounce. Alternately, you may find it rather easy to jump
away from Blade Wolf when he pounces towards you and then, while in the air,
use a Strong Attack while aiming at him to swoop down and start your own chain
 of attack.

THE STREET UP TO THE BRIDGE

Proceed down the street and hug the right wall until you reach some sandbags
and boxes to hide behind. Wait for one (of three in total) cyborg guard to come
close (tap 'Up' to activate your AR, making him easy to spot) and Ninja Run
towards him, allowing a stealthy kill.

There are two guards with riot shields up ahead, so move in for the kill.
Attack them from behind in the hope of destroying their shield as well. Before
heading over the bridge, collect a [ROCKET LAUNCHER near the armored vehicle, a
[GRENADE] on some crates on the opposite side of the street, and [100 BP] from
the red box to the right of the bridge.

THE BRIDGE & CHOPPERS (RANKED BATTLE #4)

Enemies: Hammerhead (helicopter) x1

Head over the bridge in a dramatic fashion, holding the left stick down while
doing a Ninja Run. When Raiden falls, tap Y (Xbox 360) or Triangle (PS3), then
continue your Ninja Run immediately.

You'll have to fight off one of the choppers, which isn't as hard as it looks.
You can find [HOMING MISSILES x3] lying around the area, although you don't
necessarily have to use them. Climbing the ruins makes it possible to directly
slash away at the chopper. Doing this two to three times will make it launch
a series of rockets. At this time, press the left analog stick + RT or R2 in
the direction of the chopper to use the rockets as stepping stones, allowing
Raiden to reach the chopper and enter Blade Mode to 'chopper' it to pieces.

MAIN STREET

Enemies: Cyborg x4, Slider x2

Head underneath the viaduct and open the box to your left; inside is a handy
[EM GRENADE], which stuns (groups of) enemies for a brief moment.

Hug the right buildings of the street as you continue, then head upstairs. As
you've undoubtedly noticed, a civilian is being held hostage and is about to be
killed by the group of cyborgs, which includes two flying ones. Activate AR mode
to find out where the cyborgs on the ground are located and drop the EM Grenade
towards them. Jump at one of the flying cyborgs and do battle with them. Stay
away from the civilian and he should be fine at the end (if you have thrown the
grenade correctly).

There are a few items in this area you can now collect:

- [REPAIR NANOPASTE] can be found behind some large crates to the right side of
  the main street.

- [100 BP] from the box on the roof you were on just now.

- Climb the buildings on the left side of the street to access some roofs to
the southwest. Here you can find an [ELECTROLYTE PACK].

|!| Just after defeating the cyborgs and (possibly) rescuing the civilian, |!|
|!| climb the buildings on the left side of the street and make your way to |!|
|!| the far southwest of the rooftops to find the intel for this mission. |!|
`

THIS WILL COME IN HANDY

When you've collected all those goodies, head towards the main gate and collect
a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] next the control panel. You'll have to go back and snatch
an officer's hand to proceed, so do exactly that.

As you backtrack slightly, hug the left side of the street. Soon enough an
armored vehicle stops in the middle of the street, spawning three cyborgs.
Head up the nearby stairs (to your left) and take out the first guard with a
stealthy ninja move from above. The second guard in the middle of the street
can now easily be taken out. The third guard moves onto the roof you first
accessed (to rescue the civilian), so head up those stairs, sneak behind him
and take 'em out. It helps to activate AR mode before doing this, because if
he's already halfway up the stairs, it's better to wait for him to move to the
roof; better safe than sorry.

The commanding officer is located behind the armored vehicle. Cut off his left
hand while in blade mode (after first stealthily stabbing him) to get what you
needed. From now on, cyborg officers with a left hand that is of interest will
have a blip indicating they're carriers of precious data.

'HIDDEN' BATTLE (RANKED BATTLE #5)

Enemies: Cyborg, Slider x3

If you return the the place where you fought the Hammerhead chopper, a new
battle can be activated. Be aware of the Flying Cyborg's missile attacks and
try to prioritize them.

BEHIND THE GATE (RANKED BATTLE #6)

Enemies: Cyborg x4, Armored Cyborg x1

Behind the gate an inevitable battle commences. Focus on destroying the regular
cyborgs first, since their gunfire is particularly annoying if you're aiming to
get through the battle fully unscathed. The cyborg armed with a blade can parry
your attacks, so be sure to parry his attacks in turn!

You can find a [HOMING MISSILE] near the green crates, which may come in handy
soon.

INSIDE THE BUILDING

You can find a [3D PHOTO FRAME] by going into the room straight ahead from the
main entrance, just behind the stacked boxes. The room to the right contains a
[REPAIR NANOPASTE], and the small hall in the corner of this room leads to..

|!| to find this mission's intel. |!|
`

Head up the stairs (or climb the boxes) until you reach the second floor.
Before going up the last set of stairs, note that you can find a [GRENADE] next
to them; it's to the left of it. The last floor contains a box in the corner
that holds [500 BP], so don't rush outside just yet.

THE ABANDONED FAIRGROUND

Climb on the building in front of you and patiently wait for the second guard
to move away. As soon as he turns his back towards you, perform a ninja move
from above on the first guard, then quickly rush towards the second guard to
stealthily kill him; be sure to take his [LEFT HAND ID] as you cut him open!

There's another guard on the roof of a building up ahead, so you'll need sneak
towards him, climb the crates and stab him from the back. Incidentally you can
also find a box with a [GRENADE] on the street side of this building. There's
an [EM GRENADE] in the corner of the street as well.

RANKED BATTLE #7

In the large square up ahead are two more enemies; a gekko and a cyborg. You can
kill them both without being seen, but you could also choose to engare them,
since this will trigger a ranked battle. For stealth, do the following: From
your current position, wait for the gekko to come close until it turns its back
and starts moving away from you. Ninja Run toward him to perform a stealth kill,
then cirle around the area to the right to approach the final cyborg in what may
yet again be called a stealthy fashion.

You can now search the place for the following remaining items:

- A dose of [REPAIR NANOPASTE] can be found in a box inside the destroyed
  building on the left.

- You can climb the building to the left of this destroyed building (use Ninja
Run). The box here contains [5000 BP]. Use Blade Mode to open it.

- There's a [HOMING MISSILE] next to a pillar of the somewhat intact building
  to the right.

In any case, use your AR to spot three cyborgs in this building. One of them
will move out on the right side every now and then, which is an excellent time
to - very quickly - approach him from behind and cut off his [LEFT HAND ID].

The guard inside the building is best downed by approaching him from the left
side (carve up the fence first). Carefully watch in which direction he's
looking and move behind him when you get the chance. The third and last guard
in the back alley should pose no difficulties by now. Feel free to look around
for three last items:

- There's [500 BP] in the box inside the building (behind the second guard).

- You can find a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] at the end of the adjacent hall.

- There's a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] in the corner of the destroyed (open) building to
  the right from here.

Approaching the waypoint triggers a call from Boris who tells you it's now
possible to fight even more enemies. Well, what are you waiting for? Simply
head to the middle of the square to trigger a fight with two Hammerheads. Enter
through the doors whenever you're ready.

RANKED BATTLE #8

Enemies: Hammerhead x2

Keep running around with Ninja Run and try to get underneath the hammerheads,
allowing you to jump and have a few good slashes at them. Homing Missiles and
Rocket Launchers may be used, although they're not necessary and may leave you
vulnerable to attacks. When you enter Blade Mode, remember not to stay in it
for too long; the hammerheads don't have any fuel cells that you can use to
recharge!

damage. Don't worry too much about getting an S-Rank here for the time being;

________________________________________________________________________________

You can find [300 BP] inside the box on top of the containers in the corner.
Cut through the ventilators located above the containers in the other corner
to proceed. From here on you'll spot several surveillance turrets, and there's
an achievement attached to destroying them all.

IR SENSORS AND TURRETS EVERYWHERE

There are two turrets in this room, the first one attached to the pillar in the
center, the second on top of the stairs. Take them out (avoid being seen by
their laser sight) and move over the containers to find a box with a [JAM
GRENADE] inside (this is equivalent to what used to be Chaff Grenades in the MGS
series; why they changed the name is beyond me).

The next room is protected by IR sensors, so activate your AR to spot them.
Dash underneath the first one (Ninja Run + Y [Xbox 360] or Triangle [PS3]); the
second one can be jumped over. Destroy the camera, but wait! There's a third
IR sensor system blocking the stairs. Throwing the Jam Grenade you just found
will solve this problem. Move through the laser beams (Dwarf Gekkos will attack
you, so deal with them in this hall, but make sure the camera up ahead doesn't
spot you, since you haven't triggered the alarm yet).

Destroy the camera above the doorway, then enter a gigantic area protected by
several guards, various turrets and IR sensors. The first thing you should do
is destroy the turret on the large concrete pillar to your right, but be very
careful not to trigger any IR sensors (use AR to figure out where they are all
located). Do the same with the turret diagonally across the first one, and
again, be careful around the IR sensors. Before you go upstairs, collect the
[HOMING MISSILE] in the lower right corner.

In fact, you'll want to be careful with approaching the stairs to begin with.
There's a turret whose vision extends all the way down the stairs, so carefully
watch its laser beam move and rush towards the stairs when it's safe to do so.
From here, carefully watch whether the turret is moving away from the stairs;
if so, rush up, destroy it, and preferably rush back down again so you can
comfortly monitor how the three guards patrol. There's a [JAM GRENADE] inside
the box to the right from here (still on the lower floor), should you need it.

When you've got an idea how the three guards move around, head to the top of
the stairs (but make sure the nearby guard on the walkway in the middle of the
area cannot see you; have a pillar between you and him at all times to be safe).
As the second guard (on the walkway to the far upper right side) moves away
from the third guard (who circles around the walkway to the left, carefully
monitor that third cyborg. As soon as he turns his back on you, quickly rush
towards him for a stealth kill (assuming the first guard is also moving away
from you).

From here you can hide until the moment arrives that both the first guard (on
the middle walkway) and the second guard (on the left walkway) turn their back
on you; first dispatch the second guard. After this, the first guard poses no
real difficulty. This is good, as the first guard has a [LEFT HAND ID] that
you will want to cut off for sure. With all the guards dispatched, feel free
to destroy the remaining two camera's (you'll have to jump over the walkway to
reach them), unlocking the achievement/trophy 'No Flash Photography!'. Don't
miss the [JAM GRENADE] in the corner of the room (on the upper walkway) before
you continue.

| BOSS BATTLE: MISTRAL - RANKED BATTLE #10|

The battle with Mistral isn't terribly complex, but matters are made more
difficult by the nearly constant presence of four dwarf gekkos, who all need
your love, all at once. That's not an option, so thin out some of the crowd to
focus the majority of your love on Mistral. It should be noted that if you kill
off ALL of them, they will come back in full force, so keeping at least one
dwarf gekko alive is to your benefit. Many of Mistral her attacks can be
parried, although there are some exceptions:

POLE SPIKE: Mistral extends her pole, spiking you for some damage. This can
  be parried/blocked.

SPINNING WHEEL: Mistral tries to run you over by performing extremely fast
saltos, effectively turning her into a sharp wheel. You'll
want to block this attack several times (from multiple directions).

SIMPLE SLASH: Like most enemies, Mistral has a few basic slashes; one is a
horizontal round swing, the other is a vertical slam slash.

BRUTAL WHIP: This attack cannot be parried/blocked, and Mistral will flash
yellow when she attempts it, so immediately dodge and get out of
the way. Should it hit you, quickly wiggle the left analog stick to the left
and right, or otherwise it'll inflict quite some damage.

FIREBALL GEKKOS: Mistral jumps on top of a pipe and hurls several fireball
gekkos at you. Naturally, you'll want to avoid those by
running around the area using Ninja Run.

Every now and then, Blade Mode becomes possible, allowing you to chop Mistral's
pole in pieces (as well as some of her arms). After lowering Mistral's health
down to 75% or lower she'll perform an attack that triggers a short QTE (enter
blade mode and cut her pole), which leads to the second phase of the battle
that takes place on a pipe. Mistral now gains access to two new attacks she
 will use (besides regular slashes):

WHIP SLASH: Similar to her regular slashes; can be parried.

WHIPLASH FROM ABOVE: Mistral hurls her pole around her several times, then
leaps into the air and strikes down on you. Try to block
                      this attack.

After getting Mistral down to 50% or less health, a cutscene initiates the
third and final stage of the battle, taking place on the ground. She gains
access to a new move, but loses her 'whiplash from above' move as well as her
'fireball gekko' move. Five dwarf gekkos will be begging for your attention
during this part of the battle.

UNDERGROUND WHIP: This long range attack is aimed in a straight line towards
you, making it fairly easy to anticipate.

Get Mistral down to 10% of her health and a short QTE triggers, in which you
will have to press Y+B (Xbox 360) or Triangle+Square (PS3), followed by Blade
Mode, effectively ending the battle and chapter.

Head through the sewers until you reach an intersection; straight ahead lies a
box with some [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. The other path leads you to an inevitable
battle with a new type of grunt UG called Mastiff. Try parrying/blocking its
attacks and avoid his grapple attack (as all enemies, it'll flash yellow
beforehand).

Continue and go up the small stairs; from this upper catwalk you can easily
perform a ninja move from above on the first Mastiff. The second one can be
dispatched either by using the boxes to reach a second catwalk, or by slashing
the door on the right side of the sewers open, running towards the other side,
and approaching the Mastiff from its back (the second method is faster).

Dwarf Gekkos attack you (mostly dropping from the ceiling). Taking them out one

You'll have to fight off three Raptors, who can be quite fierce. Do your best
at parrying and try to take them out one by one. Watch out for their stun
attack (which is telegraphed by a bright purple light) as it can stun you.
You have room here to run away from this attack as it is an area attack. Once
it is finished, come running in with a slide attack to give yourself time for

After the fight, backtrack slightly to find a [GRENADE] in an item box around

which allows for some classic sneaking around!

Cut your way through the doors and you'll reach a heavily guarded area (three
Mastiffs patrol it). While it's possible to sneak to the far left side of the
hall, there's a more efficient and rewarding way to go about things.

Wait right before the lower doorway and activate your AR. There's a Mastiff
walking in the lower part of the sewers, a second one walking on the upper
catwalk, and a third one patrolling the upper catwalks on the far left side.

You'll want to destroy the second Mastiff first (the one walking on the nearby
upper catwalks. To perfectly time your stealth kill, wait for the first Mastiff
to walk underneath the bridge (coming from the right, moving left); the instant
the second Mastiff on the catwalk turns his back on you, rush towards him to
stealthily kill him.

NOTE: If you want to collect the data storage in this area, it's important you
slice up the second Mastiff on the catwalk (the one you kill first)
horizontally, otherwise you risk destroying part of the catwalk that
leads to the data storage (see below).

Immediately after this you can either perform a ninja move from above on the
first Mastiff down below, or approach him from the back. The third Mastiff can
be killed by keeping your distance and ninja running up the right catwalk,
approaching him from the back as well. After defeating these three foes, a new
battle becomes fightable.

There are some items you can now collect:

- You can find a [GRENADE] in a box underneath the first set of stairs.

If you backtrack into the sewers you can fight a battle against four Vodomjerka
and various Dwarf Gekkos. This is a fairly tough battle, but it can help you get
the 'Pond Scum' trophy/achievement (for which you need to destroy a total of
five Vodomjerka's). Try parrying most of their attacks and make good use of the
moment they're stunned, allowing a fairly quick kill. Another helpful tip is to
use your Pole-Arm "L'Etranger" when fighting the Vodomjerka, as it can hit
multiple legs at once and trigger the takedown option much quicker.

From the hall where you defeated the three Mastiffs, you can either go through
the door at the end of the area, or you can use the 'sneak route' by slashing
up the door on the right side of the area (just before the stacked boxes leading
to the second upper catwalk to the right). In either case, backtracking is no
longer possible after you proceed.

If you head through the door on the right side of the hall you'll reach a room
with a box that contains [300 BP]. Proceed into the next area where a single
Vodomjerka patrols the block in a clockwise fashion. It's easy to destroy it by
approaching it from behind, but it will be replaced by another Vodomjerka; you
can kill up to four of them before they stop spawning.

Slashing up the nearby (upper) catwalk can net you a [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. The
room in the center of the area contains an [ELECTROLYTE PACK], and there's a
cyborg hiding inside one of the boxes (a so called [MAN IN BOX] - there are more
of them, and finding all of them is part of the 'Peekaboo' trophy/achievement).
Leave the center room and check out the corner to the northeast to find an
[EM GRENADE] as well.

Head to the north part of the area and use AR to find/destroy the hidden door.
Slash the two turrets to pieces, then enter the room around the corner. There
are two more turrets here, one halfway up the stairs, the other at the top.
Destroy them, then look an [ELECTROLYTE PACK] on top of the forklift, and a
[CARDBOARD BOX] in the corner. Unlock the door at the top of the stairs; there's
an [RP GRENADE] inside a box at the end.

RANKED BATTLE #5

Enemies: Cyborg x3, Raptor x1 (+ Raptor x1)

NOTE: Below is the strategy for killing the three Cyborgs without being seen.
This results in a loss of this ranked battle, however. Also note that the
timer for this battle starts as soon as you enter the room.

After opening the door, look for a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] at the far end of the
catwalk, then activate AR to study the patrol patterns of the three cyborgs
below. The two guards in the middle of the area will keep walking in a straight
line from the left to the right and vice versa. The third one will soon enough
head upstairs. Stuff Raiden inside a cardboard box a few meters away from the
stairs, and as soon as the guard turns around, carefully sneak behind him to
waste him while he's still on the upper half of the stairs. Return to your
original position and wait until you can take out the guard closest to you
(whenever the other has just passed him with his back towards you). Quickly
take out the third cyborg after this for a perfect stealth operation.

RANKED BATTLE #6

Enemies: Cyborg x4 (+ Cyborg x2)

Enter through the door on the ground floor to trigger a cutscene. Afterward
you'll have to fight a mandatory battle against six cyborgs. The pole arm
works well for crowd control, especially in the more narrow hall, but you will
want to take out the ones with guns first. As usual, they are the most dangerous
of all when attempting a no-damage run. It should be noted that one of these
cyborgs has a [LEFT HAND ID], meaning you will want to be extra careful and
be sure to slice his left hand off. It's rather easy to do a quick AR scan and
see which cyborg has the data chip, then plan your attack based on that.

You can find an [ELECTROLYTE PACK] in a box at the end of the hall that is now
accessible. You'll need to activate one of the dwarf gekkos in the rack to
access the next area.

DWARF GEKKO FUN (RANKED 'BATTLE' #7)

There two trophies/achievements to be gotten here. The first one involves
knocking all five cyborg guards in this area unconscious. The second requires
you to interact with all dwarf gekkos in this area. We'll start with the first
one.

The first cyborg guard is located directly in front of you. If you're quick you
can disable him immediately; otherwise wait for him to return and turn his back
on you again. After this, look for a small shaft on the left side of the area,
but wait with going through (with LT/L2); there are more guards on the other
side.

Before exiting the shaft, carefully monitor your map and pay attention to the
red blips. If you were quick to disable the first guard, the second guard here
will just about pass the shaft you're hiding in. But be careful; there's a
third guard up the catwalk just ahead. Wait for him to move away (watch the
blip), then immediately roll out of the shaft, turn left and disable the guard.

Now, quickly hop onto the crates granting access to the catwalk and disable the
third cyborg. Fortunately, the fourth guard should now have his back turned on
you as well, allowing for another swift takedown. Head back up the catwalk you
were on just now (via the stairs) and move to the far other side (carefully
hiding behind the yellow bars to avoid being seen) to take out the fifth and
last guard at the end of the catwalk. Your reward is the 'Dwarf Raiden' trophy/
achievement.

SOCIALIZING WITH OTHER DWARF GEKKOS

Since you have some time to spare, feel free to locate and socialize with the
other dwarf gekkos in the area. Their locations are as follows, and you can
interact with them by pressing Y or Triangle:

1. The first one is easily found; it's located on some crates to the right of
   your initial starting position.

2. The second dwarf gekko is the hardest to reach. From your starting position,
jump on top of the crate in the middle of the hall, and from here, jump on
the middle bar. Turn around and walk to the other side of the bar, carefully
hopping on the thin bar that stretches to the walls. Hop onto the machines
and from there, leap to the yellow crane device. From here, make your way to
the top yellow bar to find and interact with the second dwarf gekko.

3. The third one is hidden in the dark corner at the upper right of the first
hall (or southeast corner from map perspective).

4. The fourth dwarf gekko is on top of the pipes just around the corner. Hop on
the crates to your left as you curve around the corner to reach it.

5. The fifth and last dwarf gekko can be found on some boxes in the corner of
the other hall (or northwest corner from map perspective).

Doing all this nets you the 'Love at First Sight' trophy/achievement.

Hop through the vent duct nearby where the fifth cyborg was patrolling (on the
catwalk) and press the button inside this room to open the door for Raiden.

NOTE: The times for this ranking starts ticking as soon as you're in control
of the Dwarf Gekko. It's impossible to get all the data storages, trophy/
achievement and an S-rank all together in one single run, so focus on
      the S-rank on later playthroughs.
________________________________________________________________________________

You will need to kill the dwarf gekkos here now and you can also Zandatsu the
unconscious guards if you wish. Of particular note is the catwalk guard, who
has a [LEFT HAND ID] on him. Also, be sure to check the end of the catwalk for
a Blade Mode box that contains an [ENDURANCE +1] item. Very nice. Enter through
the door to the north to proceed.

In this hall, go around the corner and hop on top of one of the cabinets to find
a [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. There's an [EM GRENADE] lying next to another. Enter the
next area and prepare for a boss battle.

Before you proceed up to the GRAD, first check out the left side of the area to
find a box with [5000 BP] inside. From here, quickly rush to the opposite side
of the area and hide behind the wall. You can move from wall to wall, closing in
on the GRAD until you are close enough to hit him. Keep parrying his push attack
and the real boss battle will commence after pushing him back far enough.

| BOSS BATTLE: GRAD - RANKED BATTLE #8 |

GRAD is quick on its feet, so you'll want to hide behind the large canisters
every once in a while, especially if it locks on to you. A flurry of attacks
and parries against him will occassionally stun him; continue to damage him
and Raiden will enter Blade Mode, allowing you to cut off some panels. Once
GRAD is down to 10% of its HP it will be stunned for a longer period of time,
allowing you to further damage it and enter Blade Mode (twice) to finish it
 off for good.

SLIDE SMASH: The GRAD will quickly slide towards you and attempt to smash you
with its panels. This can cause a BMI error, so try to parry,
              block or evade this attack.

ARM SMASH: This is a regular smash attack that can be parried or blocked.

LOCK ON: GRAD will lock on Raiden and fire its turret, while also launching
homing missiles. Either avoid the lock-on or block against the
missiles, which can cause a BMI error.

PANEL SMASH: GRAD smashes his large panel into Raiden; attempt to block this.

Go through the door and collect the [RP GRENADE]. It just so happens that two
cyborg dudes with rocket launchers are waiting around the corner (they have been
waiting there for their entire lives, truly). Throw the RP grenade just around
the corner, wait for it to burst, then rush in for the kill. Note that one of
them has a [LEFT HAND ID], so be sure to cut it off. Don't miss the box on the
other end of the hall (it contains an [EM GRENADE]).

ON THE STREETS (RANKED BATTLE #1)

Enemies: Cyborg Cop x5 (+ Cyborg Cop x2, Armored Cyborg x1; then Cyborg Cop x3,
         Armored Cyborg x1)

You're up against twelve cyborgs, the last two will drop from the barricades
behind you as you smash up the rest; beware of them as they have rocket
launchers. As you start the fight, quickly do an AR scan and note that one
of the police officers has a [LEFT HAND ID] that you can obtain. As usual,
make good use of the pole arm for crowd control, but don't lose track of
the cyborgs with machineguns.

TIP: If the GRAD's destroyed (part of) the walkway, hit restart after defeating
them. This makes the next part a bit easier, since the walkway will be
     restored to its original status.

After defeating the GRAD's, four cyborgs will start patrolling the area, one
with a [LEFT HAND ID]. From the street you came out of, head up the left stairs
and proceed left, then wait at the stairs for the first cyborg guard to stand
close enough for a ninja move (use AR to help pinpoint his exact position). If
done correctly, this shouldn't trigger a caution, but if it does, hide behind
the big concrete pillar and take out the second guard. Otherwise, simply curve
around the area and approach the nearby (second) guard from behind.

The third guard is patrolling around the stairs on the other side. Head back
upstairs to perform a ninja move from above (wait for him to have his back
towards you). The fourth guard should pose no difficulty after this.

There are a few items you can now collect, and an optional battle can be fought
by going back to where you fought the very first battle.

- An [EM GRENADE] can be found nearby the tree on the corner of the left side
of the street you initially came out of. The tree is close to the left stairs.

- You can find a dose of [REPAIR NANOPASTE] in the lower right corner of the
  crossroads.

- There's a box with [500 BP] behind the barricade vehicle to the north.

- You can also find a [GRENADE] on this vehicle.

Move through the hall and another fight commences, which includes several
annoying cyborgs with RPG's. It's best to stay in the hall you came from to do
some crowd control. When you get the chance, move in to kill the RPG wielding
cyborgs. Watch who you kill though, as one of them has a [LEFT HAND ID] chip
and should be taken out accordingly. You should also be able to nab a [ROCKET
LAUNCHER] before entering the elevator.

THE ROOFS

Take the elevator to reach the roof of the building. There's a box with [500 BP]
in the far right corner as well as a [DRUM CAN] by the nearby crane. You can
proceed by carefully climbing the crane (hope you are not afraid of heights!).
At the top, wait for the guard below to stand still underneath you, then jump
down to perform a ninja move. Move to the far right side of this roof to find an
[EM GRENADE].

To take out the remaining three guards stealthily, equip the drum can and move
along the side of the platform while staying close to the wall. Wait for the
guard to move around the corner, and when the other guard is looking away,
quickly curve around the stairs and dispatch of the cyborg. At this point, check
to see if the Slider is still far away so you can dispatch the third cyborg who
is standing still on the platform, infinitely staring into the abyss. Help him
from that problem, then deal with the final Slider guard by climbing the
building(s). He's a [LEFT HAND ID] wielder, so keep that in mind. There's also a
[REPAIR NANOPASTE] between the buildings.

THE THIRD ROOF (RANKED BATTLE #6)

Enemies: Cyborg x3, Slider x2 (+ Slider x2)

Head left first to reach a box with [2000 BP]. This will trigger an optional
battle with Sliders and cyborgs. You'll want to jump at one of the Sliders and
perform five slashes, then enter Blade Mode and chop it to pieces. Quickly take
care of a second Slider to make your life less troublesome.

RANKED BATTLE #7

Enemies: Slider x2, Cyborg Cop x2, Cyborg Berserker x2

Continue up the stairs on the other side and drop down on the other side to find
a box with a [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. Head onto the roof and a fairly tough fight
commences with two heavily armored cyborgs and two Sliders. Take the Sliders out
first, then focus on one cyborg at a time and parry their regular attacks. Be
sure to dodge their devastating (yellow flashing) crush attack and keep at them
with minor slashes. Whenever you get the chance, chop one of their arms off in
Blade Mode (they light up blue when this is possible, as you know by now).

|!| When making your way over the roofs, you'll soon jump down a building |!|
|!| that has a civilian on it. When you land on this building, a Slider will |!|
|!| fly right over you. Either use an Rocket Launcher/Homing Missile to gun |!|
|!| it down, or use an aerial strike (Y or Triangle) in its direction, |!|
|!| combined with Blade Mode afterward. In any case, it is the proud keeper |!|

`

There's a guard patrolling the area right below you, but he can be easily taken
out with a ninja move from above. Don't miss the box with [300 BP] against the
wall. In the corner of the roof are two cyborgs (plus a Slider) bullying a
civilian. It's somewhat tricky, but you'll need to throw an EM Grenade at the
spot where the civilian is located, then quickly rush in and Blade Mode/Zandatsu
the two cyborgs down. It gets even trickier as one of them has a [LEFT HAND ID]
chip on them. But that's not all; there's a third cyborg you'll need to down,
and a Slider comes in to assist as well. Quickly take those two out and the
civilian should be save.

There's a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] in the corner where the civilian was located, and
you can find an [ELECTROLYTE PACK] between the containers up ahead. Lastly, you
can find [500 BP] inside a box on the far side of the roof. Cut the elevator
cables to reach the railroad area.

THE RAILROAD

NOTE: There's an achievement/trophy for making your way through this area
without using your AR (light) even once. This is rather tricky, and you
will want to play through the area at least once before attempting this,
otherwise you won't have any clue where to go and what to do. It also
helps significantly if you have finished the game to get access to items
that make this much easier, especially dealing with enemies.

In the first room, open the box for a [REPAIR NANOPASTE], then slice up the
door to reach the actual railroad. This area is guarded by Mastiffs (which you
will want to avoid or kill while sneaking around). You can find an [EM GRENADE]
to the right.

Proceed left until you reach a box with [500 BP] inside, then climb the carriage
and drop down on the other side when the Mastiff is looking away. Continue
onward (left) and hide behind the large crate until the Mastiff has passed.

`

Continue down the railroad and collect the [HOMING MISSILE] from the cart on
the left where a Mastiff is patrolling (or leave it be, if you don't want to
risk it). At the end of the area, look to the left of the train for [300 BP],
then climb the train and head to the far end and drop down. There's another
Mastiff patrolling the right side of the tracks, so approach him from behind
and take him out.

`

HUMANOID GEKKO: You can find this buddy on the far right end of the tracks.

There's a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] nearby the humanoid gekko, and you can find a [DRUM

in the middle, leading up to a platform with another Mastiff. There are also
various dwarf gekkos in the area.

Taking out the Mastiff from behind and then destroying the gekkos is a good

RANKED BATTLE #10

Enemies: GRAD x1, Cyborg Cop x2, Armored Cyborg x1

Simply unlock the door and head outside, where you'll immediately be attacked
by a GRAD (a little down the street). Rush underneath the viaduct and dispatch
the three cyborgs (one of them has a [LEFT HAND ID]), then smash the pillars and
deal with the GRAD.

After the battle, backtrack down the street to find a [CARDBOARD BOX].

Continue down the street until you reach some barricades. There are three
cyborgs in this area. Wait for one of them to come close to the left side and
quickly take him out as he turns away. This potentially triggers caution, so
hide behind the vehicle until it waves over. Next, kill the officer standing at
the top of the stairs (he also has a [LEFT HAND ID], mind you), and once again
be careful as this could trigger caution. The third guard can now easily be
approached from behind. Collect the [ROCKET LAUNCHER], [GRENADE] and the
[ENDURANCE +1] from the area before heading through the next corridor.

THE LONG STAIRS (RANKED BATTLE #11)

NOTE: Do *NOT* destroy the vending cart to the left of the long stairs. You need
it for a data storage (see below).

On the large square, there's a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] to your left and [500 BP] to
your right. Hug the right wall as you approach the large stairs, then hide in
a drum can behind the wall until the guard closest to you moves back upstairs.
Once he passes the guard behind him, move behind his back and waste him, then
kill the other guard as well (who has a [LEFT HAND ID]. Wait for one of the
other guards to approach and turn his back on you; then you've done about all
you can and a battle with the remaining cyborg (plus a Fenrir) is inevitable.

RANKED BATTLE #13

Raiden will be exhausted after this, and Wolf's advice is not to fight. If you
replay this chapter later, you might still want to take out all of the guards in
the next area, since this does give you a battle rank. For now, proceed (collect
the [REPAIR NANOPASTE] from nearby the tree to the right) and just take the
blows from the cyborgs while making your way to the large building.

| BOSS BATTLE: MONSOON - RANKED BATTLE #14 |

Monsoon is agile and there will be periods in this battle when you cannot hit
him. He'll hurl hammerheads and other junk at you once he falls below 70% of his
health. While you can definitely enter Blade Mode and chop these to pieces, an
alternative is to simply avoid getting hit by them with Ninja Run.

During the times when Monsoon cannot be hit, consider hurling an EM Grenade at
him, entering Blade Mode, and hit his head. After this you should be good to go;
alternatively continue fighting until you manage to hit him anyway.

When Monsoon drops to 40% of his health he'll perform a deadly attack where he
hurls a spinning wheel of debris at you (and shout some nonsense about Lorentz).
Use Ninja Run to avoid this and rush to the sides of the area.

When Monsoon is down to 10% of his health, he'll soon enough hurl a large
concrete obelisk at you. Hold the left stick up and press RT/R2, then perform
the QTE to finish Monsoon off.

REGULAR SLASH: Monsoon performs a series of regular slashes which can all be
 parried/blocked.

FLYING KICK SERIES: A flurry of kicks, the last of which can give a BMI error,
so be sure to block/parry these attacks.

RP SNEAK ATTACK SERIES: Monsoon throws a RP grenade in the area and leaps at

THE FOYER (RANKED BATTLE #1)

A fight will soon commence in the foyer area (either after destroying the
secretary or walking past her completely), and you'll have to deal with various
cyborgs and two Fenrirs (who fortunately only appear in the last phase of
the battle). Use the same tactics as usual, and take out any gunmen first. One
of them has a [LEFT HAND ID] as well, so be sure to snatch it.

OPENING THE SECURITY GATE

Go around the corner and destroy the glass doors to your left. You can find
[500 BP] in a box in the room to your right, as well as an [RP GRENADE] on top
of the nearby cabinet.

NOTE: After obtaining those items, check the walls in this room. There is a
poster here with a woman covered up by yellow tape. You can use Blade

|!| After riding the elevator to the area where you must unlock the security |!|

|!| immediate right. |!|
`

Head back to the main hall and approach the security gate. Slash the two Marshal
vending machines open to collect [ELECTROLYTE PACK x2], and grab the [3D PHOTO
FRAME] from the desk to the left - this will come in handy soon.

NOTE: If you care about getting TWO [LEFT HAND IDS] in this area, we have to
take a specific step before killing people here. Namely, we have to
destroy TWO out of the THREE panels without being seen (going into
ALERT MODE). The following section will assume that is your goal, but
if you don't care about the Left Hand ID's, getting caught won't be
an issue for you. If you do, you should Restart if you are caught.
It should also be noted that this path forces us to enter ALERT status
      at some point.

Head back to the room that had the VR mission in it. The room further down the
hall has a single cyborg in it with a very short route: he will walk back and
forth between tables. Watch what he does and note the left door where another
cyborg pauses and looks into the room on occasion. Here, throw a 3D FRAME next
to the door opposite of you when the cyborg isn't looking. This will make him
try to walk towards it. Now wait until the other cyborg isn't looking into the
room and quickly enter and ninja kill / Zandatsu the distracted cyborg.

This room is yours now. It has an invisible power panel it it you can destroy.
Next we're going to kill the cyborg that looks into this room. Use AR to see
that there are two cyborgs patrolling the adjacent room. The left one walks a
long path up and down the room while our target takes short paths. Wait until
the other cyborg is down at the end of the room and ninja kill our target.
Head back out into the hallway once you are done.

With those two guards dead, stand in the hallway by the far doorway, out of
sight. There's only one cyborg left in the room. Wait until he walks to the far
right and quickly slip into the offices on the left. Here, use a box by the
blue monitor and wait for the cyborg to come to you. Once he starts to leave
again, ninja kill him. Now, use AR to find the second hidden panel. This room
has [500 BP] inside a box, and a [GRENADE] on top of one of the cabinets.
Destroy the second hidden panel and Wolf should tell you that reinforcements
have arrived. You can use AR to see there are indeed now two Left Hand IDs
present.

Head back to the security door and through the nearby glass door. Here take
a right and head straight past some more glass doors for a [CARDBOARD BOX]
and the below VR Mission.

`

Head into the adjacent room for a Blade Mode box with [5000 BP] Not too
shabby. Now the next room will have an armored cyborg and a berserker cyborg
in it. The berserker is the new soldier and just sits in the back. The other
cyborg will patrol. Stick near the next door and wait for the cyborg to check
it out and turn away, giving you a good opportunity to ninja kill him. Don't
forget he has a [LEFT HAND ID]!

That leaves us with just the berserker left. Due to his positioning we are
going to have to break our no alert status. Use an RF Grenade to give
yourself an easier time and focus on his left hand armor. Once you can,
hack his hand off for the [LEFT HAND ID] and finish him. Since we went into
alert, an armored gekko will come in sooner or later, so take it out too and
watch out for its missile attachment.

Search the room to find a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] on top of the cabinet where we
came in at. There's a second [REPAIR NANOPASTE] in the cabinet area near the
berserker location, which is also where the third hidden wall panel is located.

With all three panels down, head back to the security door. You will have to
take out one last berserker cyborg here but we can finally get through.

ADRENALINE RUSH (RANKED BATTLE #4)

Go through the hall and you'll be attacked by enemies; you can't kill them all
so rush through the next rooms (in which you can still snatch [ELECTROLYTE
PACKS x2] from the Marshal vending machines if you're quick) and grab the
[CARDBOARD BOX] in the middle of the second one. Rush to the end of the hall
and you'll reach a set of stairs; collect the [ROCKET LAUNCHER] right before
going up (you have some breathing space here). There's a [REPAIR NANOPASTE]
in a box on the stairs should you need to heal your wounds.

The next series of halls is essentially a ninja run-fest again, although there
are a few items to be snatched along the way: [HOMING MISSILE], [EM GRENADE],
[HOMING MISSILE], and in the last room (where you face a GRAD), a [REPAIR
NANOPASTE]. After defeating the GRAD, use the Sliders outside as stepping stones
(by pressing left stick up + RT/R2). This hurls you straight into the next area.

Here you will have to continue running up a building while avoiding missile
attacks (denoted by red circles on the walls). Raiden doesn't control
particularly well here, so start to move as soon as you see upcoming missile
circles. Do your best to stay in the middle and react from there, striving
always to return to the middle after dodging an attack. If you do get hit
here it is instant-death (along with the classic Metal Gear death screams!).
This section isn't very long and you'll soon be safe.

THE JAPANESE GARDEN (RANKED BATTLE #5

Enemies: Cyborg x3 (+ Cyborg x4; then + Armored Cyborg x1)

Head through the hall and you'll reach the first area of the Japanese garden,
where you'll (naturally) have to fight several cyborgs. Beware of the two
cyborgs with rocket launchers, who spawn in the corners to your left and right.
The very last cyborg guarding the building also has a [LEFT HAND ID] as well.

After the battle, inspect the left side of the building to find an [EM GRENADE].
On the right side of the building, look for a box with [500 BP] inside. You can
also climb the boxes in the upper right corner and make your way over the roof.
This way, you can sneak behind the cyborg in building you were supposed to go
through; he's got a rocket launcher and going through the front door would make
things unnecessarily difficult, so simply slice him up at the back. There's a
[ROCKET LAUNCHER] close to where he was standing.

In the second part of the Japanese garden are various cyborg guards and Mastiffs
you'll want to take out stealthily. First head around the right corner when the
guard in the main corridor is walking away from you; jump on the platform to the
right of the stairs to find a box with [5000 BP]. This is also an excellent spot
to take out the guard patrolling the corridor below (with a ninja move from
above).

Return to your initial position and overlook the area. Turn left and move onto
the balcony to find a [HOMING MISSILE]. Climb the roof but beware of the Mastiff
patrolling here; approach him from the back whenever possible, then quickly
conceal yourself so the two guards down below can't spot you. Take out the
officer right below you (who has a [LEFT HAND ID]) when the other guy is walking
away, then take that last cyborg out as well.

There's a [GRENADE] near the parasol in the middle of the main corridor, and you
can find an [RP GRENADE] behind the building the Mastiff was patrolling on.
Following the stairs in the back alley also leads to a balcony with [500 BP].
You can find another grenade on a bench to the west (where the last guard was
patrolling, also in the direction of the remaining Mastiff). Move through the
room and look for some [REPAIR NANOPASTE] to the left. Turn right and grab the
[ELECTROLYTE PACK] under the stairs then head up the stairs where the last
enemy - a Mastiff - is located and waste him as well if you please. From here,
make your way to the other (southwest) end of the roofs to reach the last
catwalk.

Collect the [RP GRENADE] at the end of the catwalk, then go through the doorway.

MARSHAL BUILDING - ELEVATOR AREA

Head through the door at the end of the hall and grab the [DRUM CAN] before
going around the corner. Hide behind the containers and take out the heavily
armored cyborg when he turns his back on you. There's another guard around the
corner that you can easily take out, and the same goes for the third and last
cyborg near the elevator, who has a [LEFT HAND ID] to grab.

There's a slashable grate above the two containers at the end of the hall you
just went through; there's a handy [ENDURANCE +1] item behind it. You can also
find an [EM GRENADE] on top of the containers in the elevator section, a
[ROCKET LAUNCHER] on the other set of containers, and a [REPAIR NANOPASTE] on
the elevator itself. Hit the elevator button and prepare for a series of
battles:

RANKED BATTLE #9

Enemies: Cyborg Berserker x1, Slider x3 (+ Mastiff x1 after defeating two
opponents; + Mastiff x1 after defeating three enemies)

The last battle is against a heavily armored cyborg, two Sliders and two
Mastiffs. This is the hardest of this battle series, and you'll definitely want
to take out the Sliders first. Preferably defeat one of the Mastiffs afterward
and try to make good use of Jack the Ripper mode against the heavily armored
grunt, which can be a pain in the ass otherwise.

| BOSS BATTLE: SUNDOWNER - RANKED BATTLE #12 |

The battle with Sundowner can be surprisingly easy if you keep approaching
him from his back, thus avoiding hitting his explosive shield. Sweep kicks at
his back (launching him into the air) are also particularly effective. Since
you know how to effectively parry by now, keep circling around Sundowner,
parrying his regular slashes and trying to sweep him into the air.

Sundowner's biggest asset in this fight is his explosive shields, which will
damage you if you hit them. However, throughout the fight we can dismantle
them one by one. A parry counter after almost any of his attacks gives you
an opportunity to do some precise cutting via Blade Mode. Look out for these
opportunities. Follow the weak points and cut between the explosive plates to
open up his defenses, then you'll have a second Blade Mode chance where it is
your goal to cut the arms off the individual shields, reducing his overall
shield count.

You will also have to deal with Hammerheads assisting Sundowner throughout
the fight. You can take them out but another one will show up afterward. Still,
taking them out is a great idea (use your sai) if you are aiming for a no
damage run.

OVERHEAD SLASH: One of Sundowner's basic moves. He'll raise both machetes
and slash at you. At times he'll do this multiple times in
a row. Very easy to parry or parry counter. This easily leads into some
shield-slashing.

THREE-HIT COMBO: Another basic attack. Sundowner starts off with a horizontal
chop and follows up with two more hits if he connects. You
should never see those other hits though, as you can easily parry counter the
first slow chop, which of course leads to shield-slashing.

SHIELD TAUNT: Not so much an attack, but you will see this quite a bit if
you let the fight drag on. He will simply put his shields in
front of him and claim that he is invincible. You can stand in front of him
and use Blade Mode here if you wish, to initiate some shield-slashing.
You're call.

EXPLOSIVE SHIELD RAM: Used from a distances, Sundowner attempts to ram Raiden
with his explosive shield. Raiden will try to break the
shield open (you'll need to jam on a button and the button is random), after
which he enters Blade Mode. Be sure not to hit the shield or you'll take
damage. This is a good chance to take out a shield.

SHIELD BASH: Sundowner only uses this move if you are right behind him. He
will take his shield and use it to smack you, without even needing
to turn around. This is your cue that you've spent enough time damaging him
from behind... for now.

RAMPAGING CHARGE: A fearsome move! Sundowner charges at you and, if he
connects, stabs you repeatedly. This move is additionally
un-blockable. He has a tendency to do this move after you cut off a shield.
It's all too easy to jump over him when he does this. From there you can
follow up with a counterattack.

After breaking off all of his shields (which you can honestly do in less
than a minute, with practice), you will enter PHASE 2 of the fight. Without
any shields, Sundowner goes on the offensive. He attaches his blades to form
their pincer form (as you've seen before) and begins to attack much more
frequently, although his attack variety drops dramatically. It should also be
noted that you can pile on damage much faster in this Phase, as you no longer
need to worry about damaging shields. If you can, hit Sundowner with a charged
Sai attack, as it can incapacitate him for a time. Combine this with attacks
that knock him into the air to really lay into him.

COMBO ATTACK: This is the attack you'll see the most of during this phase.
Sundowner will attack 4-5 times in a row. While he can start
and stop this at any given time, his final attack is always an un-blockable
forward thrust that covers more ground than humanly possible (a well-timed
Defensive Offense off to the side is advised here). You can parry most of
these attacks, but if you parry counter you will often end up in a parry-war,
so be careful!

IMPROVISED POLEARM: Battlefield Weapon Acquisition! Basic stuff! Sundowner
will jump to a light pole in the distance and rip it
off. He will then jump back into the combat arena and use it like a baseball
bat, swinging it at you while covering a large chunk of the arena. You can
easily parry this attack. After 4-5 swings, the light pole will break. He can
do this up to four times during the fight. Additionally, when he leaves the
arena, two cyborgs will join the fight. Focus on parrying the pole though, as
Sundowner will usually kill off the cyborgs on his own.

After taking him down, you will enter Phase 3 of this fight. Here you will
watch some scenes and then once you have control you will be riding a Slider.
You are in a fairly narrow area, so watch out for debris and obstructions as
you steer. More Sliders will show up from time to time so shoot them down
with your missile attack (hit any attack button). You will need to use Blade
Mode once you reach the roof to cut through.

Once you are outside again you'll have to do a short QTE, in which you will
have to press Y+B (Xbox 360) or Triangle+Square (PS3), followed by Blade Mode,
effectively ending the battle and chapter.

NOTE: If you beat this chapter in under 7 minutes, you unlock the 'Great Escape'
trophy/achievement. It's advisable to play through the chapter at least
once before attempting this, if only to collect all optional items and
goodies. You can then rush through the streets in a second or later
playthrough and find that it isn't too hard to accomplish.

This chapter is basically a re-usage of Chapter 3 assets, which is kind of cheap
considering the game's areas are already small.

RANKED BATTLE #1

Enemies: Armored Cyborg x2, Cyborg x2

In any case, you'll have to fight several cyborgs at the start of the chapter,
which should pose little threat. One of the armored ones has a [LEFT HAND ID],
so be sure to wear him down and take it!

After this, check your immediate vicinity to see a World Marshall sign nearby.
Behind it is a Blade Mode chest with an [ENDURANCE +1] enhancement. Next, make
your way through the area which is guarded by three gekkos. You can hide behind
the walls first, waiting for the leftmost gekko to move away. Then hide behind
the truck until one gekko comes near; as soon as it turns its back on you,
swiftly down it. The gekko on the left side of the area should not be too hard
to take out and after this, the third is a joke.

There are several items in this area. The directions are field-based (not map
based):

- [EM GRENADE] near the police car to the right side of the area.
- [500 BP] in a box in the upper right corner of the street.
- [REPAIR NANOPASTE] in the grass in the middle of the street (on the right).
- [ROCKET LAUNCHER] in the middle of the area.
- [GRENADE] near the police car down the street.
- [ELECTROLYTE PACK] in the grass in the middle of the street (down the street).
- [CARDBOARD BOX] in the lower left part of the street.
- [500 BP] inside a box near the barricades to the far left side of the street.
- [REPAIR NANOPASTE] near a tree close to the next alley.

Defeat some Dwarf Gekkos as you make your way through the next street, and grab
another [HOMING MISSILE] near the end (standing against the buildings to your
right). You can also find an [RP GRENADE] at the top of the long stairs.

NOTE: The upcoming stairs section is guarded by mainly Dwarf Gekkos: the
other foes show up once you trigger alert. At the very bottom in the
grassy area is a HUMANOID GEKKO, which will run away if you trigger
the ALERT status. To get to it and kill it, hide over near the right
hand side at the top of the stairs (until the Slider leaves), and then
use a RP grenade aimed at the tree below to give yourself cover. Enter
the smoke and use another RP grenade on the Dwarf Gekko below to bypass
it and engage the Humanoid Gekko. From here you can kill it and continue
if you wish (Stealth Method) or go back and fight the enemies you
skipped. It IS a ranked battle...

RANKED BATTLE #3

Enemies: Dwarf Gekko x7, Slider x2 (+ Raptor x2)

Naturally, various enemies guard these stairs, including some Sliders, Dwarf

________________________________________________________________________________

There's [500 BP] in a box on the square at the base of the stairs, as well as
some [REPAIR NANOPASTE]. I'm not sure if you can collect data storage #13 if you
previously missed it. In any case, there's an [ELECTROLYTE PACK] in a box down
the street.

Waste the soldier overlooking the area and quickly toss an EM Grenade in the
direction of the two cyborgs (and GRAD) bullying the civilian. Take them out as
soon as possible to maximize the chance of survival for the civilian, but note
that one of them has a [LEFT HAND ID] as well. You can find a [HOMING MISSILE]
near where he was located, and you can get your [EM GRENADE] back by searching
for another one near the stairs. There is also a [ROCKET LAUNCHER] near where
you killed the first cyborg on the overlook.

NOTE: Having trouble saving that civilian? The GRAD targets you QUICKLY if
stay on the overlook trying to throw a grenade! We're here to help
with an alternate strategy. Kill the first cyborg with a ninja kill,
then IMMEDIATELY ninja run down the left staircase and get behind the
first APC. Now ninja run over to the second APC. Here, get an EM grenade
ready and bank it off the wall towards the civilian. Wait for it to
explode and you've saved the civilian. From here, take on the GRAD and
two cyborgs like normal. Try to bring the fight next to the overlook to
spare the civilian splash damage (a real danger). You can also make use
of your sai (fully charged with Lorentz Force) to incapacitate the GRAD
at times. Take all enemies out quickly and remember one of them has a
      Left Hand ID.

Once you save him, you will get the 'Humanitarian Assistance' achievement
or trophy, as this is the last civilian that requires saving. Note that
you only get this if you saved all the other civilians as well.

Go down the street and check to the left for some [REPAIR NANOPASTE], then hide
behind the armored vehicle until the Mastiff patrolling the area turns his back
on you; the ideal moment to waste him. You can now collect the [3D PHOTO FRAME]
nearby the tree and a [RP GRENADE] past that near the right hand wall. As you
proceed down the street, an armored vehicle drops off two cyborgs. Hide behind
the armored vehicle you hid behind just now (with the Mastiff). Wait until the
guard closest to you is about 31 meters away; as soon as he walks back, rush
over and dispatch him. Back away slightly and monitor the last guard; do the
same with him.

Activate your AR to spot a last cyborg behind the doorway to the left (behind
the armored vehicle). Aproach it and immediately move Raiden in the direction of
the nearby barricades. From here, carefully approach the guard's back and
dispatch him. You can now collect [500 BP] from the item box nearby.

If you head through the hall where this last cyborg was standing, you'll reach
a room with a chest containing [5000 BP].

| BOSS BATTLE: JETSTREAM SAM |

Much like the fight against Sundowner, the fight against Jetsream Sam contains
three distinct phases. Unfortunately, the fight is also extremely easy. Most of
his attacks can simply be parried/blocked, and by now you're practically a
master at this. The only attacks you really have to watch out for is the four
hit combo attacks (the timing on parries can be tricky) and his sword stab
attack (as it is un-blockable).

Check out his moves below for an in-depth understanding of what you are about
to face. It should also be noted that the arena you are fighting in isn't
limited to that side of the road. Indeed, you can fight on the road and even
the next field over. It should also be noted that there is a total of four
crates scattered throughout both fields (two on each), that each contain a
[REPAIR NANOPASTE] should you require them.

At around 70% health, Sam will continue to use dash attacks which Raiden can
parry counter that leads to a unique Blade Mode moment where you can knock
Sam's katana out of his hands. This sets up Phase 2 of the fight, where Sam
will continue the fight bare-handed.

BASIC ATTACKS: Sam has a couple of un-noteworth basic attacks, such as the
chance to do a single katana swipe at you or the chance to
try and kick you. He rarely uses these attacks though, preferring to use the
combos listed below.

FOUR-HIT COMBOS: Sam's basic attacks consist of quick four-hit combos. He
isn't limited to one basic combo either: he can draw upon
three versions of this combo:

 - Sheath Version: Sam strikes twice in rapid succession followed by a
quick pause while he sheaths his katana and charges it. He then does a
quick draw attack followed by one more slash. Beware of the pause time
when it comes to your own parry.

 - Flurry Version: A basic four-hit combo and the quickest of the three
versions. Sam performs two sets of two quick strikes. He aims higher up
when he starts this attack, so recognize it and quickly parry all of the
strikes. Even this version has some variety to it when it comes to the
direction of the attacks, but the parry timing is easy to grasp.

 - Piercing Version: Sam performs three slashes at you which are fairly
slow and easy to parry, followed by a lunging pierce attack. The lunge
can cover some distance but overall this one is the easiest to parry.

JUMP ATTACK: Sam jumps high into the air and comes down at you with some
explosive power. Easy enough to parry, but often ends up putting
too much distance between the two of you to counter-attack properly.

DRAW ATTACK: Much like Raiden's Draw Attack, Sam sheaths his katana and
charges up a bit. After charging, he draws the blade and instantly
cuts everything around him. Thankfully you can parry this attack. Without a
doubt this attack looks awesome.

DASH ATTACK: Sam sheaths his katana and quickly dashes at you, drawing it
out when he gets close. He often only uses this attack if you
are a good distance away, but its easy enough to see coming and parry.

GROUND ATTACK: A single katana slice where Sam drags his blade along the ground
and slashes upward at you. He can run a bit while doing this
attack to ensure he closes in on you. Easy to parry, but a dodge off to the
right allows for a quicker counter-attack.

SWORD STAB: Sam brings his katana back while it glows yellow, and then
quickly tries to stab Raiden with the blade. This attack is,
of course, un-blockable. Your best bet is to quickly dodge off to the right
and continue attacking.

Now that you are in Phase 2, it should be noted that Sam has a limited
move-set but is VERY quick to keep away from you. It is HIGHLY recommended
to use your Sai, Dystopia, to close the distance between the two of you here.
It really does make a huge difference and with some timing and experience you
can end Phase 2 in a matter of seconds with Dystopia. Once you do end Phase 2
you will have a QTE (X on Xbox360, Square on PS3) and then its on to Phase 3.

DASHING GRAB: Sam will constantly use this move in Phase 2. He will charge
you and attempt to grab you. If he does, he will grab your
head and slam you into the ground (ouch!). This move is very easy to see
coming though, and you should be able to parry every time.

KICK ATTACK: Sam only uses this move when you are close to him and he isn't
staggered. This is a quick and powerful kick with nothing to
tell you its coming. You can parry it if you're quick. If it connects it
will send you reeling for a ways. Even if you parry it you will be seperated
somewhat, as this move is designed to keep you two apart.

After the QTE Sam will retrieve his blade and Phase 3 will start. He mainly
draws upon his Phase 1 repertoire but adds in the below two moves. When Sam
is down to 0.1% of his health he'll perform a strike that triggers a QTE
(Y+B on Xbox360, Triangle+Circle on PS3). Enter Blade Mode and the fight ends
if you successfully strike his sword out of his hand again.

TRIPLE DASH: Sam uses this move the most during Phase 3. He will charge up
and dash at you like normal, but he follows through after
striking and does two additional dashes. Each is incredibly easy to parry,
so this should pose no threat to you.

BOULDER THROW: Sam will occasionally use an attack that launches boulders at
you. Much like Monsoon's debris attacks, time will slow down and
you can enter Blade Mode and cut through the boulders.

NOTE: If you've been following the guide, this should be the very last
Humanoid Gekko. Killing it should get you the 'Tearing Away the

them and collect it before restarting to be sneaky. Note that there is a box

Slice the main gate open and rush over to the armored vehicle to the left. Wait
for the heavily armored cyborg to pass (use AR) and slice him up from the back
(he's a wielder of a [LEFT HAND ID]). Quickly move behind the armored vehicle
again so the other nearby cyborg doesn't see you. From the perspective of
entering the base, move to the right part of the area and waste the cyborg
(just be careful the turret near the hangar entrance doesn't spot you). If you
climb the containers near this entrance, you can reach a platform with a chest
that contains [5000 BP].

On the left hand wall is a [DRUM CAN]. You can sneak past the guy at the top of
the stairs by equipping the drum can and hugging the wall as the other cyborg
walks away. Once you're past the guard on top of the stairs, quickly take out
the remaining cyborg. There's a [JAM GRENADE] in the corner of the area, hidden
behind some containers, and you can also take out the guard above by climbing
these containers.

THE HANGAR

As one would expect, there are many guards in the hangar. Hide behind the
forklift in the right corner and wait for the heavily armored guard to come
close, allowing an easy strike from behind.

Now wait for the guard on the upper catwalk to move to the left, then quickly
ninja run on top of the containers to reach him. After dispatching him, perform
a ninja move on the other guard in the first section of the hangar.

With these guys out of the way, things are suddenly much easier. The heavily
armored guard closest to you is wielder of a [LEFT HAND ID], and he can be taken
out easily by waiting until he moves to the left side of the hangar while the
other is on the fence at the back. With him out of the way, as usual, the last
cyborg should pose no difficulties. There's also a box with some [REPAIR
NANOPASTE] on top of the containers in the upper right corner. Further up on
top of the highest container in this corner is an [ENDURANCE +1] as well, which
should bring you up to 200% health if you've been following the guide and
buying the health upgrades in the customization shop.

Head outside (through the fence) and look in the corner of the area to find some
[REPAIR NANOPASTE]. Destroy the camera to the left, then quickly jump on top of
the catwalk when the guard is looking away, and immediately equip the drum can.
If you do it correctly you should be able to quickly approach the guard from
behind (even if it triggers caution) and cut off his [LEFT HAND ID]; again,
immediately switch to the drum can after this. The other two cyborgs can be
dealt with a RP/EM Grenade or 3D Photo Frame.

There's one last [MAN IN BOX] behind the containers at the far end alley, after
which you can proceed to the waypoint to trigger the final boss fight.

| BOSS BATTLE: METAL GEAR EXCELSUS - RANKED BATTLE #2 |

Keep dodging its attacks (see below) and damage the boss' legs whenever he
moves them. You'll enter Blade Mode when damaging the legs enough, and you'll
also be able to slash away at the head when you generate a BMI error halfway
through the battle.

SINGLE BLADE VERTICAL SLASH: This can be dodged easily with Ninja Run or even
a well-timed dodge. He doesn't give you much time
to hurt him after doing this move. Later on in the fight he'll do this multiple
times in a row, so stay on your toes.

DOUBLE BLADE VERTICAL SLASH: This can also be dodged with Ninja Run, but this is
more difficult to do than with the single blade
slash. It helps to keep moving and have some distance available to run. A dodge
at the very last moment can also make a difference. You can damage Excelsus'
by hacking away at its blades after this.

SINGLE BLADE HORIZONTAL SLASH: You'll have to timely jump over this, which is
fairly easy since its only a single slash. Using
Ninja Run while jumping helps. Note that he can do this multiple times in a row
if he wishes.

DOUBLE BLADE HORIZONTAL SLASH: This one is actually quite easy (I was initially
making it harder than it had to be). When you
see the two blades coming at you, Ninja Run towards them and Raiden will
automatically dodge the attack. Make sure you have time to Ninja Run though!

The following attacks are performed after lowering Excelsus' health somewhat.

LEG SMASH: This is a fairly slow attack that you'll want to evade by staying
away from the leg. He will often use the leg to try and crush you
as well by bringing it down several times in a row. You can easily avoid it
with Ninja Run but each time it lands be sure to get a few quick (1-2) blows
in and then start running again.

LEG SWEEP: He will use the leg like a broom, making it rear back and sweep over
the battlefield. The only reliable way to avoid this is to run to
the back of the area once you see the leg rear back (the camera will pan out to
give you a heads up).

After halving its health, the following attacks are performed (and two gekkos
join the fun - try to get Excelsus to toast them):

DOUBLE BEAM: Can be evaded with Ninja Run by running to the left or the right
as soon as possible. Don't try to run between the beams.

HORIZONTAL DOUBLE BEAM: Can also be evaded with Ninja Run, but stay far away
from Excelsus (much like the Double Blades and Leg
Sweep move, this is the safest way). On the other hand, it's smart to first
lure the Gekkos close to Excelsus so he accidentally toasts them.

| BOSS BATTLE: SENATOR ARMSTRONG - RANKED BATTLE #3 |

Yup, the lame guy is actually the final boss of this game. There's no way he
ever made it to senator in real life. Anyway, his attacks are fairly easy to
evade once you know them.

The first part of the battle is easy, and isn't the 'real' battle yet. Keep
blocking his attacks while hacking away. He only has a four-hit punch combo
here and an unblockable tackle (which you can frankly just jump over). You
shouldn't have a problem with this first part of the fight. When Raiden loses
his sword, simply keep fighting until a cutscene plays. After this, the final
battle commences.

It should be noted that trying to use 'Falling Lightning' on Armstrong during
this fight often results in him plucking you out of the air and slamming
you down, so stay away from that move.

STRAIGHT LAVA LINE BURST: Armstrong hits the ground and a stream of fire/magma
is aimed at Raiden in a straight line. Sometimes he
uses this twice in a row, so be careful. He'll always open the battle with this
attack, so use Ninja Run / jump to avoid it.

LAVA CRACKS: Armstrong hits the ground and cracks appear everywhere around the
area. Don't stand on any of them when they burst and you'll be
fine. He usually comes at you through the flames, following his attack up with
several punches.

DOUBLE LAVA LINE: Mr. Senator punches the ground but this time two streams of
fire/lava emerge, curving somewhat around the area.

PUNCH COMBO: Armstrong's standard four-hit punch combo. He has a big wind
up before these punches, so parrying is an easy task.

KICK: Another very un-noteworthy attack. If you stand too close, Armstrong
will attempt to kick you. Easy to parry.

GRAPPLE: Armstrong shows some football skills and tries to rush you. This
grapple is unblockable. It's best to jump over him.

DASHING ATTACK: Armstrong will turn gray before dashing at you, delivering
either a high kick or sweeping punches. Fairly easy to parry.

ENERGY BLAST: This cannot be blocked, so once you see him 'charge up',
immediately back off and dodge backwards.

LASTING LAVA STREAMS: This attack is impressive! He will charge up and do an
attack similar to the "Double Lava Line" but instead of
the lava streams disappearing, they will stay on the screen and continue to
burn for a time. This serves to limit the area you can run around in and makes
Armstrong that much more dangerous (until the attack disappears).

METAL ARM THROW: An annoying attack for which Blade Mode is quite broken.
You'll have to slice several squares at once, especially on the
higher difficulties. The first slice is easy, but the ones after that are very
hard to do right. You'll have to move the camera with the left analog stick or
otherwise the slice is impossible. If you cannot get it to work (which is very
understandable), simply Ninja Run the hell away from the arm and you'll most
likely dodge it (left stick up works well). IF you can slice three chunks of
metal during this portion, you can slice Armstrong's face as he comes down to
do some decent damage to him. Later on in the fight you may face even more
chunks of metal (we've seen up to five!). Additionally, REPAIR NANOPASTE will
fall into the arena afterwards.

REGENERATION: Near the end of the fight, Armstrong will, at times, stand
still while nanobots heal him. This is easy to see as the
nanomachines glow green. If you attack him it will stop this but it will also
make him catch your katana and hurt you. What you should aim to do is quickly
get behind him and enter Blade Mode, then quickly slash the target on his
back to stop the healing.

FIRE ARM: In the last half of the fight, Armstrong will start using this
attack. Basically, one of his arms looks like it turns to fire
while he charges you, trying to clothes-line you with it. All you really need
to do here is attack when time slows down to get into a button-jamming session
but no matter what you will be dis-armed. From there, follow a QTE session
(some of which is random) successfully to damage Armstrong. You can pick up
your blade afterwards easily enough. As long as you are good with QTE events,
this is a move you want to see as it is guaranteed damage against Armstrong.

Get Armstrong down to 20%-0.1% of his health and he'll perform a "Fire Arm"
attack that triggers a QTE:

Left Stick wiggle, Blade Mode his fists, Y+B (Xbox 360) or Triangle+Circle,
tap X (Xbox 360) or Square (PS3), Blade Mode his heart (multiple times),
B (Xbox 360) or Circle (PS3). Do it correctly to end the fight.

VR MISSION 001

- Eliminate all enemies.

... Here we have a straight-up fight with two waves of
  | RANKING:| TIME: | enemies. The first wave is three cyborgs which is
  |---------|--------| easy to deal with. Let them attack and Zandatsu them
  | 1st |00:40.00| to pieces. With luck you can get all three of them
  | 2nd |01:00.00| (do NOT special kill them - takes too much time). The
  | 3rd |01:20.00| second wave is four cyborgs and a Gekko. Here, try and
''' run behind the Gekko and into the cyborgs from the side
but slide while doing so and enter blade mode. Again, with luck you can hack
all of them while doing this blade-mode slide and kill them QUICKLY. You may
even get some hits on the Gekko. After that, finish up the Gekko quickly to
hopefully get within 40 seconds. This one definitely takes practice.

VR MISSION 002

- Eliminate all enemies via Ninja Kill.

... This one is actually pretty easy to get 1st on. For
  | RANKING:| TIME: | starters, note that there are five enemies in this
  |---------|--------| room. Do a slow run to start with so you are familiar
  | 1st |00:40.00| with their placement. Kill the one in front of you
  | 2nd |01:00.00| and quickly enter Blade Mode, cut him, and exit. This
  | 3rd |01:20.00| Blade Mode time is to speed the killing animation up.
''' Next, there is a cyborg on the ground to your left. He
WILL catch you if you run to the platform ahead, so wait a bit for him to
move then quickly go kill the cyborg on the platform, followed by a ninja
kill to the third cyborg below. From here, simply kill the fourth cyborg on
the platform in the middle of the room (be careful of how you approach him),
then quickly ninja kill the last cyborg below. After a few tries 1st place
  should be yours.

VR MISSION 003

- Arrive at the specified waypoint.

... This one should be a breeze for you. You will likely
  | RANKING:| TIME: | get 1st place on your first try. We have to run to
  |---------|--------| the goal in the back of the area. On the way cyborgs
  | 1st |00:15.00| will be shooting at you, but you'll be using ninja run
  | 2nd |00:30.00| the entire time so that doesn't matter. Run forward and
  | 3rd |00:45.00| take a right. Go UNDER the structure and up when you
''' can. Continue forward under a second structure but
before the third cut left and head up the middle toward the goal. Easy!

VR MISSION 004

- Eliminate all enemies via Zandatsu.

... This is a tough one. You will face three enemies here,
  | RANKING:| TIME: | one at a time. The first is a cyborg that you can use a
  |---------|--------| sliding Blade Mode on to kill in 4-5 seconds. After him
  | 1st |01:00.00| is an armored cyborg. Get behind him and start slashing
  | 2nd |01:30.00| away. I like to pop him in the air and keep him knocked
  | 3rd |02:00.00| down. You'll get the Zandatsu mark soon and can kill
''' him, which should put you around 35-40 secons. Finally
we have a Gekko. Start working on his legs and aim for a perfect parry
counter to quicky end this mission. If you get it quickly, 1st place should
  be yours.

VR MISSION 005

- Eliminate all enemies using the supplied sub-weapon.

... The sub-weapon in question here is a grenade. Raiden
  | RANKING:| TIME: | will be overlooking a large area underneath him with
  |---------|--------| re-spawning grenades. You'll need to use them to kill
  | 1st |01:30.00| dozens of Dwarf Gekkos. It's impractical to give a
  | 2nd |02:30.00| step-by-step guide here but whenever there is a center
  | 3rd |03:30.00| Gekko, aim for him to (likely) blow up all gekkos
''' around him. If there isn't, bank the grenade off of
the pillars and try to hit gekkos directly for an immediate explosion. There
will be four waves of gekkos, so gather grenades between waves. The last wave
is a long line of gekkos that move in a line together, so hit the line to
decimate it. Multiple tries will be required before you get anywhere close to
  1st place. Practice makes perfect.

VR MISSION 006

- Arrive at the specified waypoint without being detected.

... This one is easy once you know what to do. There are
  | RANKING:| TIME: | three guards here, but we can easily distract them.
  |---------|--------| Head forward and follow the right wall until you make
  | 1st |00:15.00| the guard here see you. All of the guards will then
  | 2nd |00:30.00| head over to that spot while you should retreat and
  | 3rd |00:45.00| run clockwise around the area to the goal. This entire
''' process should take around 12-13 seconds. Easy!

VR MISSION 007

- Eliminate all enemies.

... This one is the hardest one yet! We'll face several
  | RANKING:| TIME: | waves of enemies here. The first wave is five cyborgs,
  |---------|--------| two with Rocket Launchers. Do a sliding Blade Mode on
  | 1st |04:00.00| them from the side to take out 3-4 of them and mop up
  | 2nd |05:00.00| after that. The 2nd wave is four dual-wielding cyborgs
  | 3rd |06:00.00| with a Vodomjerka. You can actually STEALTH KILL this
''' Vodomjerka with practice: just note where it shows up
and get behind it (while running) after taking care of the first wave. This
helps a TON. If you can't do that, perfect parry counter it to take it out
quickly. This is a must if you are aiming for 1st. The other cyborgs fall
  quickly after that.

The next wave is three armored cyborgs. This part is very dangerous as they
hit hard and often. I find parry counters (as hard as they are to pull off)
excellent here. I also use the polearm and moves that cause the cyborgs to
go airborne or fall down. Be careful of being overwhelmed. The last wave is
a ton of dwarf gekko's (at first) followed by two normal Gekkos. Watch their
leg-kicks and focus on one at a time and you'll be ok. It definitely takes
some practice but if you can kill those first two waves quickly and hold
out against armored cyborgs 1st place is definitely doable.

VR MISSION 008

- Eliminate all enemies via Ninja Kill.

... Oh man, I cut this close at 49.31. This isn't too
  | RANKING:| TIME: | hard, but we do have to do this in a certain order.
  |---------|--------| 1st, run to the right and kill the cyborg here. Now
  | 1st |00:50.00| WAIT until the cyborg down the hall turns his back.
  | 2nd |01:20.00| Runover and kill him. Next take the left path and
  | 3rd |01:40.00| kill the cyborg here (he never moves), then go left
''' and kill the next cyborg walking away from you. Four
down, two to go. Turn around and run back to the intersection, take a right,
then a left. A cyborg will be walking to the right here: run behind him and
kill him. This has some tricky timing as we're running just outside his
peripheral vision. Now take that left and go kill the last cyborg. With a
little practice 1st rank will be yours.

VR MISSION 009

- Arrive at the specified waypoint.

... Ha! This one is tricky, but easy once you know a trick.
  | RANKING:| TIME: | Do a test run first. Run the course like normal. Fun,
  |---------|--------| right? Now do it again. After the first set of three
  | 1st |00:20.00| Rocket Launcher cyborgs, take a left. There is a false
  | 2nd |00:30.00| wall guarded by two Dwarf Gekko's here. It leads to
  | 3rd |00:40.00| some stairs with more Dwarf Gekko's and cyborgs. Some
''' of the cyborgs here have Rockets but they'll fire at
the floor if you're running the entire time. So, to get through this stage
fast, from the start take a right and climb up the two ledges (so you are
above the three rocket cyborgs), run past them, go through the false wall and
keep running through it to the waypoint. Note that as you go through the
hidden area, it's a wise idea to swing your sword when you pass under any of
the Dwarf Gekkos to stop them from grabbing you.

VR MISSION 010

- Eliminate all enemies via Zandatsu.

... This one is fun. And not excruciatingly hard! We'll
  | RANKING:| TIME: | have to kill a bunch of cyborgs via Zandatsu, but
  |---------|--------| they are all standard cyborgs so we can pretty much
  | 1st |01:20.00| just run up to each of them and cut them open. The
  | 2nd |01:50.00| challenge here is in being quick! Note the area you
  | 3rd |02:30.00| are in: ALL enemies are on top so we do not want to
''' ever fall down. Ninja run wherever you go. There is
also a lot of electrolyte packs here but we don't ever need them.

Go kill the closest one, then his partner. Continue straight as another one
appears and kill him, then take a right and kill the next one (four down).
Now there should be one close to you, to your right on a lone platform. Go
kill him then the one to your left (six down). Some of THESE cyborgs have
Rocket Launchers, so weave a bit from now on for safety. The last three have
Rocket Launchers and are on individual platforms. Once you take them out you
  will be done.

VR MISSION 011

- Arrive at the specified waypoint without being detected.

... This is another one that is infinitely easier once
  | RANKING:| TIME: | you know a secret trick about the room. There is a LOT
  |---------|--------| of stuff between us and the waypoint here, and almost
  | 1st |00:25.00| every corner has a guard watching it. First, run to the
  | 2nd |00:50.00| first corner and wait. AR shows a guard coming. Once
  | 3rd |01:30.00| you can, jump over him and head UP two stories. Here,
''' stop and use AR. Look to your left. See the invisible
platforms? Yep, that's our secret. We can use them to reach the last stretch
of obstacles (six cameras). There's also a [JAMMING GRENADE] up here. You can
get past the cameras without it by jumping over the beams and sticking to
the wall, but you could also pick it up, equip it, and throw it if you really
wanted to. With skill you can make it go off immediately. The guard may hear
it and investigate, so stick to the right hand wall. Honestly, you should be
able to finish without the jamming grenade if you are aiming for 1st rank.

VR MISSION 012

- Elimate all enemies using the supplied sub-weapon.

... This one is actually really easy and fun. We'll be
  | RANKING:| TIME: | using homing rockets to destroy sliders and gekkos
  |---------|--------| from range. Gather them up at first and then stand in
  | 1st |02:30.00| the middle of the area you're on. Make sure you stand
  | 2nd |03:00.00| on TOP OF a rocket, so you get automatically supplied
  | 3rd |03:30.00| with them as time goes on. This is the single most
''' important thing you can do! Have fun!

VR MISSION 013

- Eliminate all enemies.

... This one can be tough without a particular skill.
  | RANKING:| TIME: | I've found that having "Falling Lightning" makes ALL
  |---------|--------| the difference here. With it, you can jump and zoom
  | 1st |03:30.00| towards the 7+ Sliders you have to take out. What's
  | 2nd |04:00.00| even better is that once you connect you can instantly
  | 3rd |04:30.00| do a Zandatsu (be precise!) and kill them. Do your best
''' to string these together until they are all dead. Once
you are done with the first wave, a second wave with 4 Sliders and 2
Hammerheads comes in. Take care of the Sliders first and then use the various
Homing Missiles (do a quick shot by tapping L2/LB) and Falling Lightning to
take out the choppers. Once you are able to slice them, quickly do so. It
should only take around three missiles per chopper, so be quick and first
  rank will be yours!

VR MISSION 014

- Eliminate all enemies via Ninja Kill.

... This one can be tricky for newcomers, but once you've
  | RANKING:| TIME: | got a plan and played it 50 times in a row you'll be
  |---------|--------| an expert. There's no 'wrong' way to do this mission
  | 1st |01:10.00| given how open the area is but let me share what I did.
  | 2nd |01:40.00| First, there are two cyborgs, two gekkos, and two
  | 3rd |02:30.00| Vodomjerkas. I like to kill the cyborgs, then the
  ''' gekkos, then the Vodomjerkas.

From the start, head to the right while staying on top and follow the path
until you can ninja kill a cybog below you. Next, run to the corner and take
the far left path. You'll be near some stairs. The second cyborg will be
coming down them. Jump behind him and kill him.

Now for the gekkos. The vast majority of the time, a gekko will now be
appoaching you. Get out of its line of sight using the nearby pillar and
when you can follow the center path counter-clockwise to ninja kill it.
Always remember you need to be ninja running to kill the gekkos ans the
Vodomjerkas. Now there's only one left up here, so stalk and kill it when
  you can.

Next is the two Vodomjerkas down below. Do a quick scan and find one. You
should be able to drop down below and kill it easily. Track the last one
and wait for a moment to strike. They do overlap paths at times, so be
especially careful. You can often get lucky and have the second one close
by, which helps when aiming for the 1st rank prize. With enough practice
and a bit of luck 1st rank will be yours.

VR MISSION 015

- Arrive at the specified waypoint.

... Like most "Arrive at the specified waypoint" missions,
  | RANKING:| TIME: | this one is much easier and faster if you know a trick
  |---------|--------| or two. The first and most important trick is, once you
  | 1st |00:30.00| start, to immediately use a "Falling Lightning" or
  | 2nd |00:50.00| heavy Sai attack on the cyborg to your right. This will
  | 3rd |01:30.00| let you cross the gap easily and shaves 20+ seconds off
  ''' your time.

Continue on and manually jump to the far platform on your left (the one that
is diagonally across from you). From here it is all a matter of not getting
hit by rockets as you run to the end. Jumping off the high point once you see
the GRAD seems to help, as does dodging, sliding and being unpredictable in
general. But with that first trick you have a great shot at getting 1st rank!

VR MISSION 016

- Eliminate all enemies.

... This is another fun one. We're basically going to be
  | RANKING:| TIME: | using that mounted gattling gun the entire time and
  |---------|--------| shoot the shit out of everything that spawns. Note
  | 1st |02:30.00| that you can move your aim around faster when you are
  | 2nd |02:50.00| not shooting!
  | 3rd |03:20.00|
''' The only tricky part in this mission is the two waves
of dwarf gekko. You need to essentially kill them as they show up, one after
another, following the spawning wave until they are all dead. If you skip one
or let them come up to you you may as well restart (if going for 1st rank).
If you can nail the two waves of dwarf gekko 1st rank should be yours rather
  easily.

VR MISSION 017

- Eliminate all enemies using the supplied sub-weapon.

... They should have said "Sub-weapons". This challenge
  | RANKING:| TIME: | is a set of three different rooms and we'll have
  |---------|--------| grenades and homing rockets as our preferred tools
  | 1st |03:30.00| of destruction. Again, remember that standing on the
  | 2nd |04:30.00| sub-weapons is an important strategy as you can refill
  | 3rd |06:00.00| on them fast.
  '''
With that said, let's break this down room by room. The first room will have
two cyborgs rush you while one hangs back. Use the grenades to quickly take
out the first two cyborgs near your starting point, then move to the last one
and kill him. Stand near the wall now and switch to missiles. Use manual aim
here and stand on a missile refill for unlimited ammo. Four more cyborgs will
show up. Kill them all. The path onward will open up soon, but for a head
start aim up the ramp and shoot the four dwarf gekko that appear. One
  missile should do it.

The next section is a little tricky. The best way I've found to do it is
take a hard left and get near the wall with the missile again. Now, you have
to be quick but manually aim and kill the cyborg who appears above you (he is
dangerous and has a rocket launcher). After that, if you are quick you can
hit two cyborgs running at you from the left (get this one first) and the
right. If you can't do this quick enough you are going to get hurt. If you
aren't fast enough for this strategy, consider using grenades while standing
near the center platform to kill the melee cyborgs. Next you can make the
two rocket launcher cyborgs miss and take them out. Stand on any of the
missiles next and take out the remaining dwarf gekko.

Now onto the last part. Head up the ramp and get past the second white line
to make two dwarf gekko and a gekko spawn. Two raptors quickly spawn in a
few seconds later. You can take out the two dwarf gekko easily (do so) and
spit a rocket at the gekko before you should start a hit-and-run tactic.
There are four rockets lined up against the back wall that are our refill
point. Keep on the run (the raptors are brutal otherwise) and stop every now
and again to launch rockets. The gekko will fall fast. Focus on one raptor
at a time after that. Once you are down to one raptor with good timing you
can stand on a rocket and finish off the last one with ease. Watch for two
more dwarf gekko to show up at some point. With these tricks and some good
practice you should get 1st rank with time to spare.

VR MISSION 018

- Eliminate all enemies.

  ... Ok, FUCK THIS MISSION.
  | RANKING:| TIME: |
  |---------|--------| Yeah...
  | 1st |10:00.00|
  | 2nd |12:00.00| This mission is tough. Mostly because if you get hit
  | 3rd |15:00.00| once by any of the bigger enemies you'll die. But,
''' since I'm crazy enough to write guides on games I
suppose I'm crazy enough to play this mission dozens of times to give you
some tips on it. But BE WARNED! Without some serious skills this mission is,
for all intents and purposes, impossible for the average gamer!

The first wave is a single gekko with six dwarf gekkos. This wave is easy.
Try running away to bait the gekko into charging. A charge is what we want:
we can button mash and do an instant kill zandatsu afterward. From there
just use your polearm or bloodlust to kill the dwarf gekkos.

The second wave is the one where most SANE people will give up. It has
two Mastiff enemies with 3 dwarf gekkos. What you want to try and do is head
to a corner and with some luck they will jump on the wall and jump at you.
You have to perfectly parry this to take them out. The extremely lucky will
take them both out. You will likely have to run around and wait for one of
them to attack you at a time and parry them that way. Be patient and wait for
  that perfect attack to parry.

The third wave is tough as hell too! One Fenrir, two Berserkers and a bunch
of dwarf gekko. Before the third wave starts you can get a charged bloodlust
attack ready. Now, FOCUS on the FENRIR first! Stay rather close to it and
aim for a perfect parry. We want to stay close to it so it doesn't use its
laser attack (again... one hit...). One it is done, use your polearm to take
out the dwarf gekko, but do it safely. Hit and run. Once it's down to the two
berserkers, equip your sai and stun one whenever you can, then chip away at
his health, staying out of their reach at all times. After several minutes
you will be down to one and can stun-lock him.

The fourth wave is a break. Three dwarf gekko. Fun. Make sure your sai is
ready to go before finishing them off.

The fifth wave is a GRAD. However, you should be able to stun-lock him with
your sai. Stun him, then go slash crazy, then repeat. This will take awhile
but is by far the safest way to go and you DO NOT want to play through waves
2 and 3 again, do you!

Again, completing this mission is for the skilled and/or crazy. Getting 1st
rank is actually very common for those that stick it out. But if you do beat
it you have my (Bkstunt's) respect!

VR MISSION 019

- Eliminate all enemies via Zandatsu.

... This one is tough as hell as well. Not 19 tough, but
  | RANKING:| TIME: | tough. We have to go through three waves of enemies
  |---------|--------| while killing them all with Zandatsu.
  | 1st |10:00.00|
  | 2nd |12:00.00| The first "wave" is just a single Fenrir. Very easy.
  | 3rd |15:00.00| You can get in 6-7 hits, do a "Sky High" attack, and
''' keep pouring in more hits for an easy stun (and easy
Zandatsu as well!). This is a good strategy for all Fenrirs, by the way, as
we will encounter more soon. Note that each column here has an [Electrolyte
Pack] in it, but we hardly need them.

Head up the ramp for wave two. Here a Fenrir will wait up on the center
platform. As long as you don't provoke him we can leave him for last. Now
two Berserkers and two Armored Cyborgs will spawn. You can handle them in
many ways but you can't take much of a beating. What I like to do is charge
up Bloodlust hits (the second swing, specifically) and hit the group, then
run away. Only the Armored Cyborgs are fast enough to catch up but you can
charge up another Bloodlust hit if you run far enough away. Use this hit and
run strategy (or simply perfect parries) to take care of them. The Berserkers
can take the Bloodlust too, just be extra careful of their sweeping attacks.
I find that two second-hit Bloodlust charges will often stun a Berserker.
After they are dead you are through with the hard part. Next, just kill
  the Fenrir and continue.

This third wave is a bit hectic, but if you are skilled at taking on the
Fenrir enemies it won't be too bad. Easier than the cyborgs! You will be
facing FOUR Fenrir up here. Try to focus on one at a time. With a good
assault (and a bit of luck) you can finish one off in 10-12 seconds, and
thinning them out is important. Be sure to focus on one as it helps your
health as well (you'll likely get hit by knives out of nowhere several
times). I find that the Sai Dystopia helps here a bit with crowd control,
and closing the gap at times. Once you finish them off you'll be done. As
long as you don't spend TOO much time on wave two with the cyborgs you will
  likely get 1st rank easily.

VR MISSION 020

- Arrive at the specified waypoint without being detected.

... Like most waypoint missions, this one gets WAY easier
  | RANKING:| TIME: | once you know a trick about the course.
  |---------|--------|
  | 1st |00:20.00| The trick here is that there's actually some invisible
  | 2nd |00:50.00| platforms that make getting 1st rank MUCH easier. Let's
  | 3rd |01:30.00| do a dry-run so I can show you. From the start, we want
''' to run up the left stairs and ninja run up the wall to
the top when we can. Now put on AR mode. See the two invisible platforms up
  ahead! Yeah...

Take those and keep going straight. Veer slightly right and stick to the left
wall. You have to watch for gun camera laser sights here: you will likely
need to jump over one and keep going! String all of this together and by
knowing this one trick you can run this course in 13-14 seconds. Very nice!

UNDRESSING HOSTAGES

Quickly slice a freed hostage as they run away to undress them.

PICTURES AND POSTERS

You can find various pictures and posters wrapped by yellow tape in files R-03,
R-04 and R-05. Slice the tape to reveal the pictures. No pr0n though. Suppose
the guys at Capcom handle the censors better in that regards. (Anyone remember
that full naked Jill Valentine crotch from Resident Evil 5? Right.)

KONAMI CODE

At the 'Press Start' screen, press: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left,
Right, B [Xbox360] OR Circle [PS3], A [Xbox360] OR Cross [PS3]. This unlocks
the Very Hard and Revengeance difficulties right away. Enjoy getting yourself
killed over an over as you try to beat them right away.
