King of the hill?

I'm confused about the whole king of the hill mode, so how do you fight opponents?

you go on kOTH and wait for your turn ... then you fight the opponent until oe of them defeat you.. if you lose you go back in the line.... kind of like when you play at an arcade.. the winner stay the loser leave
