But playing hardcore mode gives the survival aspect of that already fantastic game a much more crucial role. You can not just die and retry, and approaching a moment where you died many times in your previous games is much more stressful. The key of success is to play safely and the best way is to know exactly what it will happen it is why I wrote on paper some comments about all rooms of the game of one playthrough to avoid forgetting any danger for the hard to the core achievement. That guide was then enhanced when I actually played and died many times on hardcore. Thanks again to these crazy sadistic genius guys of Visceral game. Hope this guide will help, good luck and enjoy. Saves : I read many things about how to spend your saves. It depends of what you are comfortable with or where you know you might die. I spent my saves at the beginning of chapter 6, before a difficult fight. My second was at chapter 9, before another difficult fight. Actually, I wanted to have a save here. I was stucked with a fight after solar array. What I did is to save there and learn how to play from chapter 7 to chapter 9 then play with my first save again. Never overwrite a save you like... My third save was at chapter 13, at the beginning just before the elevator leading to the first fight. I would like to save before the eye poke machine, I reached end of chap 14 once with a save that began at chapter 10 for some training purpose but for my official save, I just had to go. My advices : Read : Read many guides. It will give you other points of view, it will help you choosing weapon or save structure... Be careful even with easy rooms : for instance with pregnants. In an easy room (Chapter 8, room 5), I once shot the belly, stased the swarmers, ran to stomp them. However, I was grabbed by some swarmers and as the pregnant wasn't dead enough, she killed me. I was too confident being full health. Epic fail !!! Once, I was killed in chapter 9, room 2, stucked between the shoots of 2 lurkers. Another epic fail !!! For the windows that can be decompressed : aim above the button, wait that the sight is over the button, then shoot. Supply shouldn't be the problem. At the end of the game, I had more than 80k credits. I could exchange all my medium medpacks with big ones. Weapon : I used only plasma cutter from the beginning to the chapter 10. I bought force gun as backup but I really began using it at chapter 12 for the drill ride. In his guide, Daniel Bradburry has pointed out how good the ripper is. I think he's right ripper is very fast. But for the fight versus Nicole, the force gun seems better for me. I wonder if a good choice wouldn't be to buy many weapon as the found ammo can be used and wouldn't be sold mid-price.
