Question from boeing321
Jump right into the After Years???
I am very excited about this game releasing Tues. :)
I have played ( about ) 85 % of FFIV DS but never the AY. Would it be okay to dive right into AY?
This question is open with pending answers, but none have been accepted yet
If you've not completed the story to FFIV, you might as well start a new game. There's bonus content that was not available in the DS version, as well. If you don't want to go through it again, however, then yes, start with the Interlude/TAY portions. You don't miss anything gameplay wise.
About how long is The After Years? Is there a particular walkthrough/s that a lot of people seemed to enjoy?
If you've not completed the main storyline of FF4 you should play that first (if you care about the story) otherwise some of The After Year's storyline will be confusing.
Other than that none of the side-stories really tie into the after years and there's no bonus features for having completed FF4 first.
Yeah there really are no bonuses for finishing FFIV... kinda sucks because you think you would get your FFIV levels for interlude at least but no.. anyways since there is no carryover you should start with the after years if you have finished FFIV on DS (the actual bonuses are the ones you got on the GBA version of FFIV)
If you have completed the Main Story of Final Fantasy IV, then I would recommend doing Interlude and then After years. While After Years takes place 17 years after Final Fantasy IV and Interlude only takes place one year, it is a good thing to go in Chronological Order.
There is no problem in going right to the After Years game.
It can be long or short, depending on how you like to play your RPGs.
There are eight characters either offspring of or adults of characters from FFIV. You play each one as a separate Tale followed by an optional Challenge Dungeon (CD) with harder fights and mazes. There is also a different item in the final chest each time you go through the CD, so you will want to go through each one several times. Each CD final chest will eventually provide a Soma Drop, Silver Apple, and Adamantite, as well as various weapons and armor that are really good now, but outclassed in the final Tale. There are various added characters that will team with each Tales main character. Most main characters will max out at level 40 during their Tale, but will be able to advance to higher levels in the end Tale.
I am only up to the sixth characters CD and have invested 76 hrs so far, so the way I am playing, I will get over 100 hrs of game time before I finish.
