Try to find a friend that has a memory stick that they can verify is working. If you can get that memory stick working on your PSP, then we know it is a problem with the MS you bought. That would mean that the MS you bought are either defective or fake. It is actually quite common to find some fake ones, EVEN in a retail store. They can range in what problems they have, from virtually nothing but bad speeds, to not working at all. In that case, you'll just need to get a new one (Sandisk are the best).

However, if you try the working MS and it does not work, then you've got a problem with your memory card reader inside the PSP. You could always try to open it up to fix it, but I would suggest that would be hard, you could damage something, and even if you did open it, chances are you wouldn't know what to do. You'd probably have to spend some good money on repairs or a new PSP.

1- Hmm, OK. The memory stick may be not original. On XMB, go to Game>Memory Stick, press Triangle and see if magic gate is supported (If is supported, it means that your MS is not fake, but if it says unknow or something like this, then your MS is fake). If your MS is fake, then you should buy an original one, if its not, or you cant do this step, try the second Step.

2- Try to put your memory stick on other PSP, or take a friend MS that is fully working and put in your PSP. If your MS work in the other PSP, Or if your friend MS dont work on your PSP, then your PSP may be with some reading problem.

It may be good to make the tests on the same PSP model.
