"Decent at best."

This game is truly yet another step down and definitely not in the Playstation Portables' favor. Tales of Eternia is also truly a shame for the Tales series. Let us hope for better installments in the future.

Now here is possibly the only decent part of the game, and it's a good thing for most people that it is one of the most important aspects of a game, too. Now there are three options to choose from: Manual, Auto, and Semi-Auto. The trick to playing in battle is to put the system on Manual so that you control every aspect of your character, otherwise you'll have your AI messing things up (which is to be expected-- you can't have the game play itself) or running back to your previous spot right after you've already taken a short combo on your enemy. Once you really get into the battle, it really isn't all that bad. Just not good.

There is not much to the story so if you're an RPG person that goes for the story, steer clear from this game-- It just doesn't have what it takes. The humor is also a bit bland and cliched, not to mention the voice acting is, well, not so great. Okay, it is bearable but not something that'll take your breath away.

The graphics are great for the Super Nintendo but are nothing compared to what the PSP's capabilities are. Really, they are just a little blurred and don't really give off any sort of inspiration at all. Again, as with the story, it is bearable but not something that'll take your breath away. The cutscenes are decent looking but even for an Anime-like game, they don't possess very good animations.

It takes a good amount of time to beat the game if you decide to do some battling, watch the cutscenes and generally do some side-questing. But if you just rush right on through, you'll get it done pretty quickly.

Final Recommendation
This game is really only for die-hard fans of the Tales series, nothing more. If you have some time or money to blow off, I recommend picking something else up or at the most, renting this. Decide what kind of gamer you are and go for what you truly feel. But, quite frankly, this game is decent... At best.
