How do I solve the desert and stars puzzle?

It's really maddening that I can't get through it! I am following the north star all day! What am I suppose to do!? I'm dying of water

Traditionally, you're supposed to head three nights north, at which point, the evening star is directly west. Head east for about 3-4 nights, until you can't see it in the west anymore, whereupon you head north for another 3 or so nights.

A shortcut exists though. You can head between the North and False North stars for 7 or so nights, and you'll get to the Oasis
