What is the difference between the fishing games in the PSX and PSP versions?

I keep reading about a new fishing mode, but there is a fishing mode in the PSX version already. What is the difference?

Do you have to catch any specific fish?

At the title screen there's a new option called "Fishing Mode" that takes you straight to fishing. You don't have to explore the world map trying to find a fishing spot. In Fishing Mode there's a time limit, and if you catch a certain amount of fish you unlock art in "Gallery Mode" that you can look at.
