"Everything You'd Expect From a MGS Game, but Portable"

Operation Snake Eater has been completed. That was years ago. Big Boss retired from FOX. However, Snake sitting around his house doing nothing all day wouldn't make a good game, now would it? Nope! And that ISN'T what you get from this game.

STORY: 10/10
The story of Portable Ops- like most other MGS games- is amazing. Everything you'd expect from the mind of Hideo Kojima. To give you a slight idea, FOX unit is threatening to use nuclear warheads and blow the crap out of a certain country, start WWIII, then make their own military nation. Simple, right? No. This IS Metal Gear Solid, so expect more than one plot twist as you traverse the San Hieronymo Peninsula.

GRAPHICS: 8/10
The graphics of Portable Ops aren't impressive to those used to Final Fantasy, and there are a few graphical glitches and textures that don't look so great. However, both of these things are not common (or noticable) unless you look for them. Cutscenes are done in a comic-like style which really grow on you and look beautiful. Konami also does a nice job on attention to detail. For instance, when using a weapon that enables CQC as Snake, you can see a small knife disappear from it's sheath on his chest and appear in his hand. While this doesn't effect gameplay in any way, it IS a great instance of attention to detail.

GAMEPLAY: 9/10
Controls for MPO are hard to master, but once you've gotten them down they're great fun to use. It's always satisfying to slam an enemy into the ground and KO them. One awesome feature of this game is the recruiting. While this is weird for a Metal Gear game. Aside from Roy Campbell, you can play as ANY character you see in-game, and then some. This includes bosses and characters you see only in codec calls, PLUS a few you don't if you use passwords. The story really keeps you playing. On top of these features, your spy unit will occasionally send you reports which can lead into side-missions, such as retreiving new weapons, rescuing enemy prisoners, and blowing the crap out of trucks and armories. The only way to truly know what its like is to play it.

All in all, MPO is a game that is a MUST PLAY. Even if you can only rent it, GET IT. Some people- like myself- love it, while others don't. It's all a matter of opinion. 15 dollars off the Playstation Store, and I'd say it's worth every cent.
