Introduction
============
Welcome to my guide... Or "Strategy guide".
It's not easy to make a guide for DJMP2, but here is my shot at it.
 It is hard to explain a music rhythm game. I stated "Strategy guide" in my
 first line because this game is all about practice and how to handle your way
 of practice to clear the game faster and easier.
 Instead of telling you where to go or what to do like in a regular guide, this
 guide will tell you what actions to take to get the full 100% of the
 game in less time. I've also included Checklists to provide a quick peek at
 what you are actually missing. I've tried my best to make it as easy as
 possible for you to understand how to handle certain situations in the
 game.

I know that not many people play this game, but the addiction spreads like
 wild fire and most of them are still playing the game as you read this.
 I've read boards and topics about this game, I discussed many problems with
 fellow DJMP2 players and I've seen people struggle to get the 100%
I've collected most of the info from self experience and gathered the rest
 from friends and family fellow players. I've also included some of the
 gameplay-affecting issues, which was one of my favorite things to experience
 througout the exploration of DJ Max Portable 2.

But I'm wandering off again.
I wish you good luck on your road to the 100% of DJMP2.
 May this guide be with you...

Regards;
        Cees-Jan van Turnhout.

 8 button mode, Freeplay and Extreme Challenge mode(the missions). These modes

Getting started                              [START]
===============
If you play this game for the first time, you'll get two questions.
The first question is your name. The name you enter will be shown on your
 profile and it'll be shown to the opponent in Link Disc. It'll be
 shown as DJ.(name).
The second question is if you played it before. Answer Yes and you'll play
 on normal difficulty. Answer No and you'll play on easy difficulty.
 Playing on Easy difficulty bring you no further than Level 30!
This is about all you need to know in the start. How play the game and its
 modes will be explained in the other sections.

Overall Info and controls                  [INFOC]
===========================
You may get confused with the controls in the beginning, because o (circle)
 is the button you select with throughout the menu and x (cross) is the button
 used to go back with. It's exactly the other way around in some other games
 but you'll get used to it in no time!

Controls:
==========
Ok, don't think this is easy at the beginning. You really need to know the
 controls!
 Playing a song in 4 button mode (4B) is done with Left as the most-left note,
 Up as the middle left note, Triangle as the middle right note and o (circle)
 as the most-right note.
 5 button mode (5B) is the same, only this time another note will be added.
 The middle note can be played with Square OR Right, and you need them
 both in most songs for 5B.
 6B is almost the same as 5B. It splits up in the middle, so Square and Right
 will no longer be the same, they will be separate notes. Also the color of
 the notes will change!
 8B is the same as 6B, but L and R will join the note-club. They appear
 as large red bars on either the left as L or the Right as R!
 In all modes the X is used to activate the Fever.
 In all modes the Joystick is used to hit the rainbowcollored notes, by simply
 rotating it as indicated.
 But for all modes, these note settings can be changed in Options.

Navigation:
===========
A quick look through all the menu's in the game with a little explanation:
--Main Menu -------------------- Navigate throughout the game here.
 \_Portable2 ------------------- Play the game in here.
   \_4B ------------------------ Play a set of 4 songs with 4 buttons.
    _5B ------------------------ Play a set of 4 songs with 5 buttons.
    _6B ------------------------ Play a set of 4 songs with 6 buttons.
    _8B (Needs to be unlocked) - Play a set of 4 songs with 8 buttons.
    _Freestyle ----------------- Pick any song you wish to play.
    _Xtreme Challenge ---------- The missions are in here.
    _Option -------------------- It says it all...
 \_Network battle -------------- Battle against a friend.
 \_Collection ------------------ Images, Discs, Media and the album are here.
 \_Link Disc ------------------- Go back in time with DJ Max Portable 1.
 \_MV Edition ------------------ Watch the Clips of songs you have unlocked
 \_O.S.T. ---------------------- Listen to the Official Sound Tracks of DMP2.

Just fool around for a while in these menus and you'll get to know what they
 are and what they do.

Difficulty settings:
====================
The game has 3 difficulties; Easy, Normal and Hard.
 The difference between these 3 are the accuracy needed to hit a note, the
 amount of loss in the life bar and the amount of notes needed to regain
 the life bar. Easy does not allow you to go further than Level 30,
 you'll have to go to Normal or Hard difficulty from here on! (I've seen many
 people spamming the boards because of this!)

Here is a small table on the differences in difficulty.
 they are not accurate, but I think it's pretty close.

                  Easy    Normal   Hard
Accuracy -------- 125% --- 100% ---  50%
Damage Dealt ----  30% --- 100% --- 150%
Tech Effect ----- 200% --- 100% ---  50%
Exp gainded -----  60% --- 100% --- 125%
Gold rewarded ---  65% --- 100% --- 150%
Score Given -----  50% --- 100% --- 200%

The lifebar and Feverbar:
=========================
The game has a lifebar while you play. If you miss too many notes you'll
 game over. But if you lose just a part of your lifebar you can
 regain it by hitting notes on 100% a few times. (This is not possible
 in Network mode).
 The amount of you lifebar is effected by Tech... Which some of the
 Notes, Gear and Characters have.

The feverbar is located in the middle of the screen, it
 goes up when you hit notes on 100%. If it is full you can hit X to activate
 Fever and every note you hit will be counted as 2 instead of 1 to your
 combo. If you manage to fill up the feverbar again while still in
 2x fever, you can press it again to go to 3x fever! You can repeat this up to
 5x and if you manage to fill the feverbar again in the 5x fever, you'll just
 reset the time for the 5x fever. Once you reach 4x fever, the speed will
 increase by 0.5. Not only will your Combo double, triple or
 whatever, your score will too~! So fever all you can in Fever missions
 and Score missions!

Effectors:
==========
While you are choosing Music you
can press Traingle to select an Effector.
Here they are:

Speed:
x1.5 --- Not really recommended but for fast paced songs it's ok.
x2 ----- A good speed for beginners who want to play faster.
x2.5 --- Quite good speed, recommended.
x3 ----- Highly recommended for 6B and higher.
x3.5 --- Recommended for slow songs.
x4 ----- Not quite recommended, but once you get used to it, it's ok.
x4.5 --- Really fast and not really recommended.
x5 ----- Just for the fun of it.
x0.5 --- Slow... Way too slow... Not recommended for accuracy.

Fader:
Fader Top ------ The notes fade in as they come down.
Fader Bottom --- The notes fade out as they come down.
Blink ---------- The notes will pulse in and out.
Smoke ---------- Purple Smoke covers the bottom of you screen.
Blinds --------- The notes are invisible, can you handle that?

Key:
Mirror ------- The note-set is mirrored.
Random ------- The note columns will be randomized.
MAX Random --- The notes will be randomized.

Chaos:
W ------------ This changes the speed from 1 to 5 back and forth.
Slide up ----- The notes will go faster as time goes on.
               Break will reset the process.
Slide down --- The notes will go slower as time goes on.
               Break will reset the process.

Challenges:
===========
Sometimes in Freeplay a challenge will appear.
You have to pay a certain amount of gold to play the Challenge.
 You get 1 shot at it to get a max combo for the given song.
 If you manage to complete it, you'll get a picture for that song
 and a Challenge disc. Also, you'll get more gold than you needed to pay.
 And a certain amount of exp points will be included!

Characters, Gears and Notes                    [CHGEN]
=========================
By playing songs, missions or getting huge combos in freeplay, you can unlock
 Characters, Gears and Notes to costumize your hud! But not only to customize,
each Character, Gear and Note has it's own effect!
These effects can be; Fever, Auto, DefUp, Exp, Gold, Tech and Life.
Fever makes you gain fever faster. Auto changes missed notes to MAX 1%, but
 only works for the stated amount of times. DefUp makes you lose less
 life. Exp gives you more experience for each song. Gold gives you more gold
 for each song. Tech increases the amount of life you recover. Some of these
 effects don't do what they're supposed to do, for example a TECH of 10% is
 more like 5%.
You can buy or equip them when you are in music selection in any mode by
 pressing L or R.

Here is a detailed look at all the Characters, gears and notes with

Good combinations are the key in missions, on a fever mission you
 should combine the Notes, Gear and Character with lots of fever percentage.
 You'll notice that your feverbar will be full sooner in each song. Thus
 making it easier to connect the fevers.
For a score mission you should also use the fever combinations, they multiply
 your score as well!

Practice makes perfect                       [PRACT]
======================
The title says it all. I recommend you start at levels 1 to 3, once you
 feel comfy with the buttons and style of the gameplay you can advance to
 harder songs. Don't be shy or scared to play a song of level 5 or so, some
 songs are misjudged and could go for something like 3 or even 2! Which ones
  are for you to figure out~!
If you wish to go even further to 5B or 6B, I recommend for you to skip 5B.
 5B could get you mixed up with the middle buttons.
 If you learn 6B first, 5B would get much easier in the beginning, But you can
 try experiment if you wish! If you wish to practice for missions in Extreme
 Challenge mode, try to figure out which songs and which effects will hit you.
 You can then go back to Freeplay and select that song with the same effect.
 Then it's all up to you to practice~!

Collection                                   [COLLE]
==========
The Collection menu holds the Discs, Images, Media and your entire album.
 You can also view your current level, your wins and losses from Network mode
 and your progress in percentage.

Ranking: This is a simply way to pin your highscore of the entire button mode
 on the DJMax website (site name is within this menu).
 I never took the time to figure it out... I will soon enough.

Album: This holds every Album in the game. It keeps your highscore and your
 playcount for the songs. The people at Pentavision were to lazy to add a
 total playcount, so if you are curious on your total playcount; Grab a
 calculator or a smart person and make him add all your album playcounts!
 If you are wondering what all the missing Album discs are you probably
 haven't played Link Disc. Those songs will also count in your Album.
 There are 210 in total.
 If you are still wondering why you miss 2 songs is because you can play
 a bonus song. In any button mode, if you get a accuracy higher then 96%
 you'll get the bonus songs that can't be unlocked! My own Miracle!
 Thier are 2 versions of this song (normal and hard mode).

Disc: This holds the number of discs you got in the entire game (but it
 doesn't go higher then 99). You can also see how you can earn them.
 There are a few things you can unlock by getting different types of discs.
 There are 22 different types of discs in total.

Image: Here is the menu where you can view all your unlocked images. They can
 be viewed fullscreen and transferred to your PSP photo folder. They can also
 be used as a background or transferred to your computer. there are 240 in
 total.

Media: You can view your unlocked media here. There are 6 in total, though. Not
 much...

Missions                                     [MISSI]
========
This section is made by Wei Ren, so full credits for him...not me.
 He did an awesome job on this so please refer to his original work and better
 layout here; http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/938196/54920
 All I did is simplify the layout to keep the filesize low.

Wei Ren's words;
"Well, I decided to do this out of boredom. The reason it took me 2 months was
because I had to keep putting this off due to exams. But I managed to finish
this and here it is.
Okay, I admit I used CWCheats to gain info on the songs played. I'm not a very
good player. I just left the cheats on and waited through the songs.
This list contains information about the missions, nothing else."

Cees-Jan's Words;
"A great Job figuring this out! I think lots of players will find this very
 usefull (I'm one of them). Thanks."

Checklists                                   [CH000]
==========
The biggest chapter of my FAQ... The checklists. I've tried not to focus

Before I continue I will tell you in advance that some unlockables are
 unlockable in more than one way, so be sure to keep an eye out for that
 second way.

It's all between the ears [IABTE]
=========================
I've read lots of reactions on boards and topics about this game.
 together with a friend of mine (a fellow DJMP2 player) we figured out these
 mental elements required to play this game on it's hardest level.
People tend to react different to the effects of DJMP2.
These are the Issues I could somewhat recognize and solve;
The "Break" Issues
The "Anger" Issue
The "Thrill" Issue
The "Burnout" Issue
The "Sound" Issue
The "On-screen Distraction" Issue
The "Locked Thumbs" Issue
The "Frozen Thumbs" Issue

The "Break" Issues; I play a song better if I haven't played it for a while.
                   Jasper tends to play better after playing the same song
                   multiple times. I've read this on boards and many people
                   have this effect.
 Issue 1: Playing multiple times; You remember the notes, where they come and
          how they line up with each other, thus making you play better.
 Issue 2: Playing it once in a while; Not remembering the song makes you
          concentrate more on the notes that fall, you tend to win the game
          with max combo (or something else) so you focus more.

The "Anger" Issue;
 Some people tend to get aggresive if a song doesn't go so well, or you lose
 the mission over and over. (I'm one of those people, because I'm quite
 stubborn). All you can do is to gather your coolness and try again, if this
 doesn't work for you; Just quit the current mission before you break your psp
 and play a song you like which doesn't piss you off. After a few songs you
 like you'll eventually cool down and you can try again.

The "Thrill" Issue;
 If a mission is about to succeed after a million tries some people get
 energiezed that it is about to happen, but because of there Thrills they
 fail at the last moment. Just play as you played before. As if you just
 started the mission... Because you can always fail on the last note.
 Always keep that in mind.

The "Burnout" Issue;
 If a large number of notes pop up, your brain
 gets to many signals to react to.
 This is what I call the DJMP2-Burnout. You lose focus on the note order and
 you start smashing the buttons (or not) and you fail your current set goal.
 The solution to this is quite simple; Set the speed a bit higher. The notes
 will spread and you can see them more clearly, so you'll see the order of
 the notes much easier. If you set it to fast you won't have enough time
 to react to the current note with its button (like 6B and 8B mode).
  So be sure to set it to a good speed.
 If it's too fast for you, you could halfen the speed. But I don't recommend
 it, there is not even one song that goes so fast.
 If it doesn't work for you, you should practice more. Use the speed on
 other songs to practice the new speed of gameplay... As it only gets
 faster and faster the further you get in DJMax Portable 2.

The "Sound" Issue;
 Sometimes you play notes that you can't even hear. This makes it somewhat
 harder to hit them on 100%.
 There are 2 ways to solve this;
 1; Buy some good headphones and play with quite some volume.
 2; Set the speed higher and pay close attention.
 I will always recommend to use Earphones or Headphones, this will solve the
 distractions from your outside world. But from those two I would chose the
 headphones, as earphones hardly get the bass in. Which a few songs use.
 But you should know, every DJ uses headphones! =3
 I'm not trying to sell these things, but for DJMP2 the HUSH from Skullcandy is
 what I use and I'm glad I bought them! They remove any surrounding sounds and
 there bass is just about perfect (I use them for my Bass Amplifier as well).

The "On-screen Distraction" Issue;
 I have experienced the On-screen distracions myself; Playing with the
 NB Ranger gear together with the meteor notes is quite distracting.
 there isn't much to do against it if you need the fever percentages, but for
 freeplay I always use the PGP-Gear and the Crystal Notes. They are the
 least distracting and give you great accuracy because the Crystal Note is
 small and thin. For accuracy play with a gear that is the least distracting
 and use notes that are clear and easy to hit. Increasing speed can also
 increase your accuracy.
 There are a few missions that just annoy you with it. Like moving gear or
 shaky screen and so on. the only thing to do is just practice these mission.

The "Locked Thumbs" Issue;
 While playing a fast song and the notes are all over the place, I usually
 see the notes but my thumb doesn't react to it or it just taps to softly
 to press the button down...
 Your brain gets overloaded and you get a doubt if it's the correct note
 you want to hit. This usually occures in 6b and 8b mode. As there are more
 than 4 the chance of a doubt is higher. The desicion is made to slow
 that the note is missed before you could deside if it was the correct
 one or not. This makes your thumb lock up.

The "Frozen Thumbs" Issue;
 This issue is quite simple. You got cold thumbs, thus making you play
 a song with awefull results. You just need more blood and temperature in
 your thumbs to play a song to get a good result. Simply warm up those
 button bashers and continue in a nice and warm envoirment!
