"God of War: Chains of Olympus Review"
Kratos is back in action as he appears in God of War: Chains of Olympus, exclusively on the PSP. Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the PS2 games God of War, and God of War 2.
Chains of Olympus's graphics are awesome. It surpasses the PSP's graphical limit. Everything is in 3D. EVERYTHING. From pieces of wood to houses, from boxes to walls, everything is in 3D. Also, Kratos and his enemies are impressively designed. You can see his loincloth moving whenever you run around, shadows are highly detailed and much more that makes the game more fun.
For the gameplay, I'll give it a perfect 10. It's just plain fun. You get to upgrade your weapons, destroy stuff, make posts fall, climb mountains, and a lot more that you should see for yourself. Also, in some part of the game, you'll get a new weapon that is more powerful than your starting weapon, and makes killing your enemies a lot more fun.
Ah yes... The controls. Truly marvelous. Somehow Ready at Dawn studios made the controls in this PSP God of War better than those of the PS2 versions. Moving is done with the analog stick, performing special moves is done with pressing the face buttons while holding the L Trigger, magic is done by pressing the face buttons while pressing the R Trigger, and something I would not forget: EVADING. This is done while holding both shoulder buttons, and moving the analog stick in the direction you want to. Impressive indeed...
Yep, it's a 10. You can see that the story connects with the games on the PS2. It tells Kratos' story, thus helping you understand why Kratos is like, that, killing people and all, being a badass etcetera.
Unlike any other games, God of War: Chains of Olympus has some features that can be unlocked after you beat the game. An example would be "The Challenge of Hades", some sort of mini game in which you do what the game tells you to do in order to unlock more goodies.
The only thing that brings this game down is it's length. The game lasts for only 4 hours. Luckily once you finish the game, you unlock "God Mode" which is the hardest difficulty. You start from scratch. The enemies deal more damage and are harder to kill.
OVERALL RATING: 9.5 - AWESOME
