    --DRAGON FORCE 2 GUIDE--

    This document is not meant as a walkthrough for Dragon Force 2, but rather a collection
    of useful reference for information while playing the game. However, since it is possible
    to get "stuck" in some scenarios, a brief "troubleshooting guide" is provided:
    
    --PROCEEDING WITH THE CAMPAIGN--
    In Dragon Force 2, your goal is to select one of the eight nations of Legendra to play, then
    unite the continent under your own flag, then ultimately invade the sunken continent of 
    Zeldokia to defeat King Grandel. At the start of the game, each of the eight nations has
    roughly equivalent power. You should proceed to take enemy castles and increase the power of
    your army. In some scenarios, certain routes will be "blocked" in order to direct where you
    attack next. If you see a Zeldokian castle with a lot of scary officers in it, chances are 
    that you should move your attacks in the other direction. Other than this, defeating the other
    seven armies is a pretty straight-forward task and you should not fall into too much trouble 
    before you own all of the castles on the map.
    
    After the other seven monarchs are under your control, a series of events will be set into motion. These 
    events vary slightly with each scenario, but there are some common things that need to be done in all of 
    the scenarios. With ALL of these adventures, make certain you travel with full HP, MP, and troops since 
    they often lead to battle with Zeldokia's army.
    
    -If playing as Topaz, or after defeating Topaz, a path from Highland will appear, leading to the Fiend 
    Tower in the desert. You must travel here to find the sleeping Queen Teiris. 
    
    -After retrieving Teiris, Reni will mention that a spiritual stone can be used to awaken her from stasis 
    sleep. Gangas mentions that this stone can be found in Beastec village, which is northeast from the 
    southernmost castle in Bozack. Sometimes Reni leaves your group to travel here alone, otherwise you will 
    need to take Gangas and/or Reni here to retrieve the stone.
    
    -Once the spirit stone has been acquired, Reni must travel to the Moon Palace sanctuary (the fancy-
    looking building to the east of the Moon Palace north castle). In some scenarios, your main character 
    needs to accompany Reni here. If successful, you will see a movie clip showing Reni using her life force 
    to awaken Queen Teiris.
    
    -In the Tradnor and Tristan scenarios, you will need to send Sanice and Adelvah to a certain village to 
    fight King Renox. In the Tradnor scenario, it is Hirelia village on an island north of Fandaria. In the 
    Tristan scenario, it is Marek village to the west of Highland. Be sure that Sanice's level is 10 or 
    higher so she can defeat the undead troops of King Renox.
    
    -After Teiris explains about the legend of the Dragon Force and the battle against Madruk 500 years 
    earlier, you will probably be attacked by several Zeldokian armies, followed by the continent of Zeldokia 
    itself rising up from the sea in the center of the continent. A magic barrier will surround the 
    continent. Send your monarch to the village on the south side of the barrier, and in your next domestic 
    affairs session, your advisor will discuss methods for destroying the barrier.
    
    -In the Topaz and Izumo scenarios, you will need to send Shane and Kaede to the second castle of Izumo to 
    retrieve the Izami and Izagi magic swords. In the Tristan and Tradnor scenarios, you will need to send 
    Sanice and Adelvah to the Tristan robot factory to equip Katmando with a special electrical weapon that 
    can destroy the barrier. In the Bozack scenario, you will need to send Gangas back to the Fiend Tower 
    where you found Teiris. In the Highland, Fandaria, and Moon Palace scenarios, enemies will appear in your 
    castles. After defeating them, your officers will discuss how to break the barrier. (In Highland and Moon 
    Palace scenarios, Reni and Teiris combine their ancient elven magic to break the barrier. In Fandaria's 
    scenario, Bahtz and Midia use the dark magic of the Doguru to break the barrier.)
    
    -Once the barrier is destroyed, send the eight monarchs to defeat Estan, Midia, and Olvo (Midia does not 
    appear here in the Fandaria scenario). Once all three are defeated, send your monarch (and possible 
    companion) to the Shadow Tower in the center of Zeldokia. Abels and Reni travel together, Shane and Kaede 
    travel together, and Sanice and Adelvah travel together. Gangas and Bahtz may go with whichever ally they 
    choose. You may have to fight Olvo again here depending on the scenario. After you learn your sixth 
    skill, move to the capitol palace of Zeldokia to challenge King Grandel. 
    
    --TROOPS AND FORMATIONS--
    
    Deciding which two troop types your officers will command is probably the most important decision you can 
    make regarding the success of your battles. Each troop type is strong against some other troop types, and 
    weak against others. Some troops walk across the ground to attack, while others fly in the air above 
    ground troops or stand on the ground and employ long-range attacks. Also, most troop types gain the 
    ability to use new formations and/or commands when paired with a compatible secondary troop type. Always 
    select the best possible combination of troops before raiding an enemy castle--your success depends on 
    it.
    
    When deciding on what troop types to give to your officers, keep in mind the following things:
    - Before you get your hopes up, be aware of what troop types your officers are capable of.
    - Unless stronger criteria come into play, try to get two troop types of different classes.
      ie. have a ground troop with a long-range troop or a ground troop with a flying troop before 
      settling for two troop types that are similar.
    - Try to get two troop types that enable new formations and/or commands. The special formations
      will enhance the abilities of your troops and the commands often make up for tactical
      weaknesses of certain troop types. ie. Samurai and Beasts.
    - Don't get locked into your two "favorite" troop types. If you have the crests, enable and
      develop several types for your key officers so they can swap when necessary before battling
      an army that their regular troops would not fare well against.
    
    DESCRIPTION OF FORMATIONS:
    Standard:	This is the basic troop formation available to any combination of troops. It is the 	
    	only formation that can be selected if there is only one troop type. The troops form
    		square rows in front of the officer. Although this is ideal for direct attacks, no 	
    	special bonuses are conferred upon the troops.
    Concave:	In this formation, the troops form fewer, taller columns that span from the top edge 
    		to the bottom edge of the battlefield. Extra troops are placed along the top and
    		bottom areas, forming a "dent" for enemy troops to walk into. When using this 	
    	formation, the Endurance ability of the troops is increased.
    Convex:	Similar to Concave formation, Convex also forms a tall wall against enemy attack, 
    		except that excess troops are placed in the center, forming a "bulge" to meet the 
    		enemy troops. In this formation, the Attack strength of the troops is increased.
    Open:		In this formation, the troop rows are spaced apart to cover the whole latitude of
    		the battlefield. With a short Advance command of the rear troop type, the army
    		can form a homogenous wall against enemy attack. In this formation, the Defensive
    		strength of the troops is increased.
    Slant:	In this formation, the troops form a tall, diagonal wall in front of the officer.
    		This wall spans higher and lower than a Standard formation. When using this 	
    	formation, the Movement speed of the troops will be increased.
    
    
    DESCRIPTION OF COMMANDS:
    Attack:	The troops move horizontally from their current position to reach the enemy officer.
    Advance:	The troops move forward and attempt to reach the area behind the enemy officer.
    Retreat:	The troops move backward and stand in the area behind your officer.
    Stand:	The troops stay in the current position, but will move to attack enemy troops.
    Disperse:	The troops split across the center, moving towards the top and bottom of the field.
    Regroup:	The troops converge across the equator of the battlefield, staying near the center.
    Space Out:	The troops spread into a larger grid. Repeated uses have the effect of Disperse.
    Close In:	This command undoes "Space Out" command. Repeated uses have the effect of Regroup.
    Melee:	The troops seek and destroy enemy troops, then attack the enemy officer.
    Top Move:	The troops move towards the top edge of the battlefield.
    Bottom Move:The troops move towards the bottom edge of the battlefield.
    Defend:	The troops will move to stay near your officer and protect him/her from attack.

    --ITEMS--
    
    Items are acquired through clearing levels of Doguru officers in caves, or from automatic searches at the 
    end of each week-turn. To get the most out of these searches, position officers with an Intelligence of 
    70 or higher in every castle, village, and cave in your realm. Villages and caves in particular yield the 
    rarest items. Make the most of the minerals found in caves to construct the best weapons and accessories 
    for your officers--it is well worth the effort.

    troops that Warriors use are extremely destructive against mechanical opponents, but are
    nearly impossible to control once they launch their attack. Fortunately, Beasts are quite compatible with 
    other troop types to acquire new formations and commands to cover up these deficiencies. Creating a Harpy 
    Crest early on will let Warriors deal with the Cavalry and Mages that plague the Beast troops.

    Monks are strong unarmed soldiers who defeat their opponents with the martial arts. Monks
    generally have a high attack power, so they easily dispatch enemy troops and can definitely
    hold their own in a duel. Monks use the effective "Aura Bomb" technique, but often lack MP.
    The Monk troops can deal with Beasts and Bandits effectively, but fail against Goblins and some flying 
    troops. A Power Ring or Power Book makes a good accessory for a Monk.

    The Magicians' most obvious asset is their powerful command of healing and ressurection magic which can 
    sustain them in battle for a long time, which is good since Magicians have poor attack and defense. 
    Magicians have a fast Charge rate and sometimes learn destructive magic as well. The Mage troops have a 
    long attack range and fight well against Zombies and Horsebots. Making crests for Zombies and Ghosts will 
    give Magicians the advantage over several types of enemy. The largest obstacle for Magicians being useful 
    is that their experience level must be high before they learn any attack magic suitable for capturing 
    enemy officers, and that experience is difficult to earn with healing magic alone.

    Some Shamans also learn the useful Ressurection spell. Shamans often command Archers or Beasts in battle. 
    Although a Shaman cannot carry a rod or staff, equipping a Shaman with a good magical book will greatly 
    increase their usefulness in battle.
