1) Intro
-----------------

Welcome to this NBA Jam FAQ for Sega Genesis. Since there were only 2 FAQs
for this game at GameFAQs, and actually only 1 that was solely dedicated to
the Genesis version I decided to throw this together. I remember playing
this game when I was in the fifth grade and I thought it was the coolest
thing, but now we have Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, etc. so it's not really all
that great..... But still the best basketball game for the Genesis with the
exception of the sequel (NBA Jam: Tournament Edition) so it's worth a FAQ.
Please send any comments, additions (things I forgot) or questions to me
so I can add them to this FAQ or help you out with an answer.

Version 1.7 (1/7/00)
No actual update or changes to the FAQ... I just changed my alias and
e-mail address and replaced it everywhere in this FAQ. Please note that
cripplerx@hotmail.com is no longer my e-mail address!

P.S. - If you want the reason for the name change, mail me and let me know
and I'll tell you (this isn't the place to explain).

Version 1.0 (11/22/99)
Everything has obviously been added. This FAQ will be updated in the
future, but not that much.

4) General Info
-----------------

The different types of dunks you can do:

- Arms and legs not extended dunk
- Super high one-handed dunk
- Super high backwards dunk
- Backward dunk
- Leaning forward dunk
- Super height spinning dunk
- 360 degree spinning dunk
- Soaring dunk
- Tomahawk jam
- One-handed power dunk
- On fire super high flip dunk

The dunking concept is rather easy; just go up to dunk and the one that
you get is random. If you dunk enough times during a game with a good
dunker, the backboard glass will shatter toware the end of the game.

-----------------
5) Players/Teams
-----------------

There are 27 teams with 2 players to each. They all come rated with speed,
three point shooting ability, dunks and defense. They don't give a number
rating so I'll rate them from 1 to 5 for you according to the game.

7) General Secrets
------------------

Special thanks to Game Sages (http://www.gamesages.com) for these.

All Power-Ups
For power-up defense, shot percentage,
unlimited turbo, half court dunks, and to stay on
fire the whole game, when it asks if you would
like to enter your initials, press yes. At the
initials screen, go to S and press C+Start, go to
N and press B+ Start, and then go to K and press C + Start. Then at
tip-off, when the anouncer says something, press C + Start!

Ball Advantage
To have the advantage of getting the ball at the beginning of the second and
fourth quarter instead of just the second, plug your controller into the
second player port and play like you usually would.
Submitted by Tim Moysey (moysey@recorder.ca)

Juice Mode
At the Tonight's Matchup screen, press A 13 times, and then hold B + C
until the court appears.

Powered-Up Defense
For a better defense, wait for the "Tonight's Match-up" screen to appear,
then press any button five times. On the fifth tap, press and hold the
button
until the tipoff.

Powered-Up Dunks
At the "Tonight's Matchup" screen rotate the D-pad 360 degrees and press
B 13 times.

Powered-Up Fire
To be "On Fire" for the entire game, wait until the "Tonight's Match-up"
screen appears, then hit any button seven times. Then, press and hold B + C
+ Up until the tipoff.
Submitted by Neil Uppal (luppal@ica.net)

Powered-Up Interceptions
Steal the easy way with this code, especially if your team has speed or
defense problems. Wait until the "Tonight's Match-up" screen appears, then
hit any button 15 times while rotating the directional pad clockwise. On the
fifteenth tap, hold the button until the tipoff.

Powered-Up Turbo
At the "Tonight's Matchup" screen press A 13 times, then press and hold A
+ B + C until tip-off.

Shot Percentage Display
This code rates the likelihood that you'll make a shot, excluding dunks.
It's
not very accurate however, as shot likelihood is largely determined by your
player's attributes and whether computer assistance is on. To get this
display, press any button once at the "Tonight's Match-up" screen, then hold
A + B + DOWN until the tipoff.

Smash the Backboard
First, you have to do alot of dunks, and get most of your points in the 4th
period. When you have around 48 points, dunk the ball with a player with
full dunk power and the backboard will break.
Submitted by bambam8658@aol.com

Super Code
At the Tonight's Match-up screen press B 7 times then hold B + C + Up
untill the tip off. If you did it correctly, you'll be "on fire", immune to
goal tending calls, and will never run out of Turbo.

8) Records
-----------------

Well, I've had this game for six years now, and I'll admit that I lost a
few times when I first got it and lost a few times after that, but here
are my three best records and the initials I use.

Initials: SFO
Wins: 749
Losses: 12

Initials: JR
Wins: 478
Losses: 3

Initials: DMX
Wins: 125
Losses: 0

It takes years and years to play as many games as I have; my goal is to hit
the 1000 mark and I'm getting there with SFO.

9) FAQ
-----------------

Q: Which teams do you prefer?

A: I like the well-balanced teams like the Sonics, Bulls and Spurs. I
don't like having one good player.

Q: How do I get rid of that annoying computer player?

A: Go to options before the game and turn tage mode on.

Q: What's the best team in the game, who's the best player, and which
attribute is most important?

A: I think that the Knicks and Bulls are the two best because of how
well-rouned they are. There's lots of good players such as Patrick
Ewing, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, Karl Malone, Shawn Kemp and
plenty more. I think that the most important attribute is the 3-point one
because if you're down by a lot and you have a good 3-point shooter
(like Chris Mullin or Ronny Seikaly) you can sink a few three's and
you're back in the game.
