About the game

Title screen
This is a single-player brawler game where you control a policeman called Gray.
If you don't press start at the title screen an animation will play which features the following introductory text:
America in the near future...
The city at night is a frightening place, but nothing can instill fear like the "Dark Zone." It used to be a city like many others, until "M" and the "Soldiers of the Darkness" took over. Anyone who dared to go anywhere near the Dark Zone learned the true meaning of terror...
Sgt. Brody, at the top of his class at the National Police Association Academy, could no longer stand by and watch people being massacred. He went in alone to put an end to the evil M. Brody's partner, Det. Sgt. Gray, got wind of Brody's foolish idea too late to help him. Gray arrived at the edge of the Dark Zone to find Brody mortally wounded...
"Hynoptist... M..." were the last words Brody ever said. Over come with grief and anger, Gray vowed to do everything in his power to bring down M and his soldiers. He entered the Dark Zone.

Walkthrough
There are six levels in this game:
- Level 1: Dark Zone
- Level 2: Parson Hangout 1
- Level 3: Parson Hangout 2
- Level 4: Parson Hangout 3
- Level 5: ESP Training Room
- Level 6: Mr. M. Last Boss
But first some Basics:
Basics

Screen layout
The screen layout shows your score and lives in the top left hand corner; your remaining energy and your immediate enemy's remaining energy in the top right hand corner and in the middle any firearm you are holding, plus it's remaining ammo, or if you have the super strength or super run power-up then that will be there instead with a countdown of how many more seconds it will last for. Otherwise without one of those power-ups the middle area will be blank.
As you defeat enemies along the way some release power-ups. These are as follows:
| LIFE | This replenishes your energy |
| 1UP | Extra life |
| G | Gun - has 30 shots |
| R | Rifle - has 10 shots |
| SS | Super stength - makes you stronger and faster (maybe not as good as having a firearm so avoid if you do have one). This lasts for 40 seconds |
| SR | Super run - use this to run through the level really quickly as you turn invincible but it only lasts for 5 seconds |
Once all your lives are lost you can continue from the beginning of the level you died in (if you press to continue within the designated 10 seconds). There are three continues.
Level 1: Dark Zone
Before we go into detail there are two ways of getting through enemies in this game. One is by fighting them. The other is by running past them to the end of the level, as the game lets you do this.
So having decided on your preferred method (to fight like a man, or to run like a mouse) head right towards the end of the section. You'll meet some enemies along the way who will aproach you from your front, and from your back. These will be soldiers who will either kick or punch you, and each will have two energy. You can therefore kill them with two punches or kicks (if you go for hand-to-hand it is best to use flying kicks). However if you pick up a gun power-up they will only take one shot from the gun, and killing enemies with a gun is easier and quicker.
Soon there will be "SEGA" written on the background wall in graffii just past what looks like a bricked-up door with BAR scrawled across it; walk past this and past the screen edge to progress past this section.
A screen will show some text with a picture of Gray beside it (Gray is the guy wearing specs and red clothes). This indicates that it is Gray that is saying the words:
Here is the gang's hideout.
Now the battle begins!
Level 2: Parson Hangout 1
Head right again. Jump past a large and small barrel that are obstacles in your way at the beginning and start confronting the same enemies as you confronted previously. Again they will approach you from the front and the back. Also in this level watch out for the 3 gaps in the platform that you are walking along. You need to jump these. If you fall down you lose energy. To jump these successfully make sure you have destroyed the enemies on both sides so you don't have them getting in the way of your jump and take a running jump to clear the gaps and you should be fine.
At the end will be a set of golden doors that you can press up on to go through once all the enemies are not in screen.
This will take you into a similar area where again you head from left to right. Along the way you meet the same enemies, and jump a gap, 2 barrels, two more gaps before another set of double doors at the end take you to the next part.
This third section similar to before where you confront the same enemies before another set of double doors take you on to the boss battle.

Gray vs Captain Brass
This room looks different. It looks like the inside of a ship. Walk right to the anchor and Captain Brass will jump out of a basket. His attacks are with his sword. Best way to defeat him is to jump from one side of himn to the other with Captain Brass following you. When you reach are far enough away from him crouch down and use the crouching punch to hit him once before going to the other side and repeating.
Once Captain Brass has been defeated it is time for Gray to give an epic victory speech:
Captain Brass was tough. But even stronger enemies await.
Level 3: Parson Hangout 2
Now you are in a similar room to the ones before, except the colour scheme has changed. There are a few different enemies though. If you jump the two barrels at the beginning you will confront them. The soldiers this time have 3 bars of energy, and also carry firearms so can shoot at you from distance, and they even sometimes throw grenades. So now they are harder to kill (even with the gun they take two shots). Plus there are other enemies too. Just past the barrels electricity beams that shoot from floor to ceiling can kill you. These are easy to jump through though as they alternately turn on, then off. So jump through them after they turn themselves off.
A little further along there is another new enemy: a wall-attached gun that swivels to follow you around. You can fly kick these if you wish, and they sometimes give you good power-ups.
Plus you might come across a yellow metalic-like bird thing that lands, shoots a laser from it's beak and then flys away.
So head right killing or passing these enemies, whilst also jumping the gaps in the platform and the barrels along the way until you get to a set of double doors that you go through.
The next room is the same sort of stuff except this time one soldier will arrive on a multi-coloured flying surfboard thing. At the end, as if you couldn't guess, there will be another set of double doors to go through.
Now this part will be more of the same with the addition of laser type guns that move up and down blue poles, so avoid these too. At the end will be another set of double doors to go through to reach the boss battle.

Gray vs Killer the Kid
Walk right until Killer the Kid walks onto the screen. Now the best way to kill him is to jump and fly kick him, and repeat whilst avoiding the bottles he throws at you and his rolling attack.
Once defeated you have a conversation:
You Killed Brody!
You're wrong. It wasn't me.
If not you, then who did it?
It was "M". He... No! Help me!!
What's wrong?
AAAAAH!!!
Dead! But what killed him?
Level 4: Parson Hangout 3
Here the enemies are the same as before so deal with them as before as you head right and reach the double doors. There are three areas like thisbefore you get to the boss.

Gray vs Samrai Man.
Head right until Samrai Man comes out of hiding. He does a jumping spinning attack, plus he summons lightning from the sky too towards your direction. As is normally the case it is easiest to get him by doing flying kicks, except don't hit him when he is in the air doing his spinning attack.
Once he is defeated you will have a little conversation with him:
So you killed Brody!
I don't know any "Brody"!
Maybe your boss knows more.
You want to see "M"?
Tell me where he is?
His ESP will destroy you too.
Level 5: ESP Training Room
The next level has only a boss. But first you have to go through a load of doors to get to him. So head right and go through the double doors at the end, then do the same again and there will be someone there with long-flowing blonde hair to save:
Who are you?
I'm Mary. Who are you?
I'm Gray. M killed my partner.
What happened?
His name was Brody, and...
He's my brother!!!
I'll avenge him for us both.
(However if you play this game through the level select cheat as in the Cheats section you'll get an alternative ending and you won't meet Mary here.)

Gray vs Milacle Man
Milacle Man appears through a set of double doors opposite you. He keeps disappearing then reappearing somewhere else, and will shoot pink things at you whilst also using powers to rip bricks out from the wall to throw at you. Avoid these and hit Miclacle Man as much as you can until he is defeated so you can engage him in conversation:
I know you are Brody's killer.
Yes, we killed him.
What? You mean you didn't do it alone?
Of course not. "M" rules all!
Welcome to your Doom, Gray.
Prepare to pay for your crime!

Gray vs Mr. M

Kill M like this
M will be driving a vehicle with a gun on it's front end. Jump on the gun and use high-kick to hit the spot of the machine that takes damage. Only jump off when electricity shoots up at you from below the vehicle, or when bullets come out of the top of the vehicle. Then repeat until "M" is dead.
Now you get the ending screen with you and Mary snuggling up.

Ending 1

Ending 2
Now Brody can rest in peace.
(Alternatively if you went through the level select cheat you get a different ending where it says "Justice has been served. But who was the other one?")
There may be other ways of getting the alternate ending but I don't know what they are.
Cheats

Cheat menu
At the opening "press start" screen once Gray has run from right to left immediately press up, up, down, down, right, right, left, left to enter a cheat menu.
Here you can select which level you want to play, whether to have free play on or not, and also you can sound test all the 26 sounds in the game (0-26).
And that's the game.
